I took my old truck there and after they crashed it into another truck, they lied to me about the damage and tried to tell me the bumpers were not available for a tuck that old but they generically (if one could be found) would be worth $200. It took me under 10 seconds to find hundreds of them and my particular bumper was $319 without shipping or instillation. They claimed the gave me free front end alignment, but that work was nessesary for the steering box replacement. Would not trust them at all!! read more

I went in for an oil change after a cross-country move, and came out with a laundry list of things to repair--which would normally be welcome---except I got a second opinion and the most expensive thing on the list was unnecessary. They suggested I spend $1900 to replace the control arm and bushings and then realign. I spent a stressful week afraid to drive my car, (google broken bushings.) I was also upset with my local shop who I'd seen a month before my cross-country drive, thinking they'd missed something important that might have made my trip less safe. The second shop I took it said that the bushings looked "worn" but perfectly normal for a 10-year-old car, and not at all dangerous. He said, you don't need "new" -- he saw the video they sent me and just shook his head. He said unless my steering was off, he would not recommend the same repair, nor would he do the work if it were his own car. Marin Automotive also wanted to replace two filters that were replaced 7,000 miles ago for $70 (parts and labor) but they wanted to charge me $250. The front desk person was charming, but I think these folks need to reevaluate how they do business. Not everyone in Marin has $$$$ to spare and it's not OK to manipulate people via fear to make more $$$$. read more

I brought my just purchased 1967 C-10 pickup to Marin Automotive to do a diagnostic on it and make recommendations for needed repairs. I've been impressed with the work ethic and communication from the team at Marin Automotive. I read reviews from a lot of shops in the area and got a sense that these guys are a local gem and a place a lot of families trust with their cars and it's true. The great news is I got a good truck! Their were a handful of wear and tear type repairs that were recommended, all at a great price. What made the experience exceed my expectations was how they took their time to provide a thorough inspection, the way Daniel explained his recommendations, his knowledge about these trucks, and all the easily looked over things along the way he noticed about the truck that were quick fixes that he took care of as well. This is not a review for their work, but for the fact that they recommended a bunch of work that they claimed needed to be done on my car, but, when I double-checked with my local mechanic, did not actually need to get done. They also charged me SIX times what my regular mechanic charges... I paid like $600 for what would have cost me maybe $50 with my regular mechanic, but thank god I didn't do everything they suggested, totaling like $5,000 or so! By far the best shop I have taken my car or any of my cars to, ever. Not only were they friendly and very good with communication throughout but they were able to get my car in and begin diagnosing the very next morning from my initial call Like I said the communication throughout is top notch I received work orders and estimates that I could approve via text message. I did not have to go in at all until the car was ready and they called me every time there was a question or an update or anything. it was really really nice. The car was ready, even with having to order parts, within 3 days.The work was awesome, it runs better than ever! I am so grateful!! Danial, the owner, has been in the automotive trade for decades serving the Fairfax community. He and his staff were sharp, efferent and professional.
