We needed a smog to register our car and we were going to call and make an appointment but decided to drive there. They took us without even having an appointment which is really nice.. Well, I rolled over here when their sister smog check station at QuickSmog failed to open on time last Friday. Since they were only a few blocks away, I drove over and left my SUV and walked over to Mary's place (we'll sure miss that place) around the block. I had a great breakfast, and by the time I got back to S&E my car was ready and waiting for me to drive off. And better yet - they honored the $20 off coupon from QuickSmog that I wasn't able to use there! So, overall friendly and courteous operator, fast service, paperwork filed without a hitch, and a fair price to boot. Right of Grant down the street from Mi Pueblo. Having a great experience with their service as they would provide very decent suggestion on which oil is more suitable for my car, rather than having the most expensive one. I took my 2003 ford ranger in today apprehensive with high miles,i was comforted by the free re-test, and a coupon I brought in made it the cheapest in town. S & E is not my usual go-to for smog checks in Novato, but my normal shop could not handle the 9' vertical clearance of my Class B RV/Van so I gave them a try. Not much to rate about a smog check as long as nothing is wrong. They were able to take me right away and the service was fast and friendly. I may give them a try next time. read more

They tried to scam me. I went last week with my old 92' for a smog check. I did everything I could think of to prepare it as last time it failed the first test. I took it to S & E and to my surprised it passed the emissions test but failed because my timing was off by a whopping 15 degrees! So the next day I took it to my mechanic to have that issue fixed and was shocked when he told me my timing was dead on! I took it back to the smog place and after looking over it for about 10 minutes the same tech told me "your car doesn't have a timing wire and without that my machine is saying it's 15 degrees off." I drive back to my mechanic and at he laughs at what he hears. He points to the wire and walks over to his computer. Within a few second he has a printout from the manual clearly showing the location of the wire. THIS IS WHAT YOU DO IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE SOMETHING IS. He also explains that some GM cars appear to be off by 15 degrees because of the computer, this is a known thing. I go back and he checks the timing now with the wire. He says, yes, it's perfect. So it will just be $20 for the retest... Let me be clear. The guy was pleasant throughout and I remained very pleasant as well. I simply say, "do you think that's fair?" He says, "yes, I have to do the test again, why shouldn't I be paid?" I very nicely point out that he screwed up and then he looses it. He then tells me If I don't like it he has the right to refuse me service and then I should leave. To recap, I showed up to S & E with a car that passed the smog test and pay $80. The mechanic fails me because he doesn't know how to do his job. I pay my mechanic $25 to tell me my car is awesome, and spend the entire afternoon doing this along with the trips back and forth with the smog guy. People make mistakes but as soon as he demanded I pay for the re-test I knew this was a scam. I made a scene, filmed it, and he eventually offered to do it for free. During the test he remained aggressive and nearly backed 2 cars into oncoming traffic. This place is about as sketchy as it gets.... My mechanic later told me he used to use them but stopped about a year ago when "his guy" left them and opened up shop around the corner. RED smog, apparently, and I'll be trying them next time. read more

I despise dealing with all things related to my car, from washing it to getting the oil changed, to dealing with registration issues. So, I wasn't looking forward to the smog check and registration transfer, since my recent move to CA from IN. This smog check was super quick and easy. I didn't make an appointment and there was no line when I got there. I printed the coupon off craigslist, so the check cost $55 for my 07 Corolla and took about 15-20 minutes, start to finish. It's a no-frills type place, but quick, easy and reasonable is all that mattered to me. read more

I went following the last reviewer for a $50 smog test. If my car had passed, the price actually would've been $64. Unfortunately, it didn't and I still had to pay $54. Though reeling from the bad news, I did like this place because it was professional, clean and I didn't have to wait long. Plus, the mechanic was helpful and gave me advice on the next course of action to take to get it to pass smog, telling me about government $$ resources and local smog mechanics. read more

I had a fantastic experience getting my car smogged here today (a Saturday.) When I called I was quoted $69.00 for my 1999 automobile, and was told I wouldn't need an appointment. I hopped in my car and went right down. After I mentioned that I came to their shop based on the reviews I saw online, I was given a discount, and was only charged $55.00 total!! I was in and out in 15 minutes. I will definitely come again, and recommend S & E any time someone asks me where to get their car smogged. read more

Pulled up, they took my car right away. Total $50 for the smog test and certificate. It was quick, convenient, affordable.

My teenage sister came to this place for a smog check and was charged $15...YES $15 to add air to her tires. WOW talk about taking advantage of someone. All the shops I know will do that for free, which is 2 minutes of their time. I understand she is ignorant to automobiles, but that is why customers trust businesses to do the right thing. Not saying this is a bad place for a smog check, but watch the bill there might be a surprise charge. read more

This place used to be great. Now under new ownership they are down right rude. I will not go back here. Look at the dates on the favorable reviews they are all over a year old. Too bad. I showed up it took several minutes to get greeted. The gentleman that finally did acknowledge me was curt, but I had used them before and I thought they were just having a bad morning. They said they were busy but I could come back in two hours. When I came back they told me it would be another hour. I decided it wasn't worth my time. The time wasn't the problem it was that the attitude was really unpleasant and they were not the least bit apologetic about the poor service. Again too bad; I have used this shop for years to get my cars smogged, but will not use them again. read more
