Lucky Dragon seems very out of place. In a town like Yellow Springs with its artsy, colorful feel this restaurant just seems to miss the mark. My partner and I were here on Saturday evening and we were literally the only customers in the entire restaurant when every other spot in town is packed. I get that they do a lot of Take Out orders but it seemed sad and depressed. The food was fresh but very old school Chinese and boring. I would rate well not as well as it used to be before it sold out a couple of years ago; and there for a many years once it was sold they were charging more money than their menus stated the prices were. However the newer family with the lady - I am thinking may be one of the owners she is extremely difficult to deal with - always ask for a receipt! ALWAYS! Take my word on this! Lucky Dragon is the only place in Yellow Springs to get Chinese. It doesn't have to worry about competition. The food can still be good. It's a nice family owned business. They do mostly takeout but you can eat inside. I had the tofu and vegetables for carryout. It's about $7 for the regular portion. This came with a good variety of vegetables. It was seasoned and didn't taste overwhelmingly of salt. There's Chinese restaurants that seem to just put MSG and then some vegetables in a container and give it to you. It wasn't the best Chinese by far but still tasted fresh. There are also some more authentic specials. In addition to fortune cookies you also get a roll calendar. This is nice for something that's free. It's the only Chinese in town. If you want Chinese this is the only option for about 10 miles. The menu is pretty typical. read more

Good Chinese food. Was unsure with the reviews but needed a small bit to eat later in the evening. The fried rice wasn't good, not much different than the white rice but everything else was really good. Egg roll was super crispy and the lo mein was AMAZING. Great flavor. **Carry-Out Experience** Every once in a while, myself and my co-workers order Lucky Dragon for lunch. The ordering process is rather easy (via the Beyond Menu app), and it's typically ready within 20 minutes. Their lunch options are mostly $5.99 and it includes white or pork fried rice, and soup (your pick of wonton, hot&sour, egg drop) or a pop. I'm always a little leery of Chinese food, because I've had my cases of "bad Chinese", but Lucky Dragon has not failed me yet. On my most recent carry-out from here, I had beef/broccoli/white rice and hot&sour soup. I was not a fan of the hot and sour soup (weird taste to me, also the first time I've ever had this type of soup), but the beef/broccoli... yes please, give me more. DO NOT EAT HERE. The overall smell in this place is musty and moldy, it's dead silent, and the vibe is seriously uncomfortable. They don't even bring you drinks. The only option is water and you get it yourself out of a metal tin canister. The fish tank out front is foggy and probably adds to the smell of the place. The people that work here aren't welcoming and walk up two minutes after you sit down and if you're not ready to order, they disappear. Also the food is horrible and if I wasn't grossed out enough, I walked into the bathroom after one of the employees and HE PISSED ALL OVER THE TOILET AND THE FLOOR. I STEPPED IN THE DUDES PISS. I am mortified. This bathroom has never been cleaned and I'm lucky I brought the dining napkins into the bathroom with me to grab the door handles. The common theme of all of the reviews here is "it's the only Chinese restaurant in Yellow Springs." You will also notice that the reviews are fairly bimodal: The 4-5 star ratings are all from local residents and the 1-2 star ratings are from out-of-towners. This is no coincidence - the locals are comparing it to a 20-minute drive to another town while the out-of-towners are looking at it as the capstone to their tourist visit to Yellow Springs. The locals are all glad they didn't have to drive for Chinese food and the out-of-towners all wish they had tried something else in Yellow Springs. Yes, I was an out-of-towner, though my wife and I were in town to look for a home. We may still move to Yellow Springs, but it won't be for convenient access to the Lucky Dragon. The place is filthy, the water and tea are self-serve in styrofoam cups, the cashier was rude, and I think I nearly had a fist-fight with someone who was waiting for his carryout while we ate. We shared the pad thai special, which wasn't cheap, but was the blandest pad thai ever. I suspect that it may have also been the lo mein, but for the plastic cup of peanuts served on the side. I'm giving them two stars, instead of one, because of the pan-fried dumplings, which were perfectly prepared. For the locals, who have no choice, my advice is "try the dumplings." read more

Lady was very dry when she dropped our food off. She didnt even bother to grab the cutlery for my soup (first time there wasn't aware we had to get it ourselves) or tell me at least where it was. The chicken noodle soup was bland, there was cartilage in the chicken strips and the fried things that go in it were slightly soggy. The fried rice didnt feel fried, it tasted like regular moist rice and had no taste to it and the dumplings were pasty and also extremely bland if it was not for the dipping sauce. The atmosphere was very noisy too, two kids were playing (I'm assuming someone who works there is the parent) and were being VERY loud couldn't have a conversation with anybody without raising our voices. Also our table had greasy finger stains on it, all over like it hadnt been wiped. We walked out and vowed never to go there again. read more

We dined there about a week after opening, so it's probably in need of another visit after the early kinks get ironed out. Some good ingredients, but not very flavorful. Most traffic would be for carry-out as they have about six booths. They need to make the decision that if they're going to cater to dine-in customers, then they have to do more than offer up plastic silverware and plastic cups with hot tea (and no teapot full of tea to go with it). That's just not acceptable for eat-in customers, nor is the poor young lady who tries to handle both take-out orders AND waiting tables. If the order's not right, good luck getting her back to correct it.... or getting a tea refill. read more

The food is simply not good but the service is even worse. The Kung Pao chicken was largely undercooked chunks of carrots and celery with about five peanuts and maybe about six thin slices of chicken. You are given the option of mild, medium or hot for the spice level and I selected medium....there was absolutely no spice/heat whatsoever. The hot and sour soup allows me to give the overall rating the one star because it is decent enough. I placed the order online and put in the optional notes to make our choice fried rice as opposed to white rice because I had seen the choice on the menu. No big deal either way just wasn't sure how else to convey our preference. I had ordered one chicken egg roll and one shrimp egg roll with our order. My son went in to pick up the order and was told they were out of shrimp egg rolls so they gave him two chicken instead. The shrimp was.20 more but not a big deal. The only reason I mention it is because I was charged $5 more than the amount on my receipt. The next day I called to ask why I was charged an extra $5 over the amount of the food and tip. I was told because I asked for fried rice...I explained that I had noted a preference because I thought we were given the option and needed to communicate it somewhere in the ordering process (Upon reviewing the menu, after my call, I saw the option is only on a dinner combo which is what we were first considering) I was yelled at and spoken over when I informed her I did not authorize the additional $5 charge on my credit card. After repeating over and over that I asked for fried rice she told me to come in to pick up my money. On principle,I should but won't. I just wish there were a good Chinese restaurant in town but this was my second and very last try. They will not have another order from us. read more

If I could give a negative star I would. This place was absolutely disgusting. I got the Sesame Chicken & General Tsao's Chicken, and when they served it to us it looked and smelled amazing.. the sauce was great, BUT the chicken itself was absolutely nauseating. I wouldn't even call it chicken. It was nice & crispy on the outside but squishy on the inside. My friend said she kept wondering if it was raw.. i looked at it though with each bite and there was no pink. Just weird, squishy gray/white stuff in the middle. Not good. Yellow Springs could really support an excellent Asian restaurant with authentic fresh dishes. This place, unfortunately, has flat flavors that border on unpleasant with some dishes. It's true, the owners are very nice, and the building and dining area is quaint, but on two occasions I've had to throw the majority of the dishes we ordered for pickup right into the trash after the first hopeful bites at home. My hubby and I had a lovely meal tonight. We had originally heard they weren't very good when they started, but after having a few of my clients (I'm a hair stylist so get a lot of good word of mouth info.), rave about Lucky Dragon's food, we had to give it a try. Seems like they worked out their rough startup issues, because this was our second visit, and everything was extra fresh and tasty both visits. Their won ton soup was full of flavor, and the wan tons even tasted home made and not purchased from a restaurant supply house. Last night, we stopped at the Lucky Dragon to get a quick bite while in town, in result of seeing the 3.5 star review here on Yelp. After eating here, we were really surprised at the good reviews. To start, the bathroom was extremely dirty, worse than an "old gas station's" I've ever been to. It was very obvious that it hasn't been cleaned or even wiped down in a long while. The whole bathroom was very grimey. Which is concerning with regards on how clean they keep their kitchen (based on how clean the bathrooms were - an indicator?). The lady behind the counter was mildly friendly and did answer some questions we had about some dishes. We both ordered our food with water to drink. When getting our water at the self-service station by the counter, I opened the top to the stainless container and there was a white, hazy film covering the entire surface of the water. I have no idea what it was, but in my opinion, it shouldn't be there. Maybe from not being clean, I don't know. Our food contained a decent portion for the cost. I got the Hunan Pork, it was palatable with a good amount of pork and vegetables. Not the best I've had but not the worst either. My wife got the Garlic Chicken and it did not taste anything like Garlic Chicken. It had a heavy, metallic flavor that reminded you of iron. It had very little flavor outside of the metal-taste. She did her best to eat it and not complain and ended up leaving it. Just to put this in perspective, we are not picky people. We'll eat almost anything to a certain degree. Looking back, we should've said something to the staff there. In a nutshell, the restaurant bathroom was extremely dirty, staff not overly friendly, water issues and quality of food was sub-par compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. If we could give half stars, I'd give it a 1.5 star rating. Maybe this was an off day, but I don't feel that it was after some of the things we experienced here. read more

I love this place and go all the time. I get the Singapore chow mei fun, it's the best especially if you like spicy food. They make their dumplings in house whereas most places buy the frozen pre-made ones. It's a family-run restaurant and the people are very nice. They are Cantonese so their fate is a bit different than some of the mandarin restaurants you may be accustomed to. Spicier, several very good curry type dishes and plenty of veggies. Trust me I know Chinese food, if you don't like this place you just might not like this style of cuisine. read more

Living in YS, our options are somewhat limited, but overall, this is not a bad place to go. My beau is a vegan, so he orders a modified dish that they are always happy to do for him. My fiance and I love chinese food. So we were very excited when this place opened up in town. We want very badly to love it. But we can't lie. We are disappointed every time. First and last time there. Had seafood and beef entrées plus an appetizer (and their free self serve tea). Our host had all the charm of a meter maid. Nothing was fresh. Veggies all right out of deep freeze. The tea looked like dirty water and tasted the same (not exaggerating). Plastic forks and spoons, and even better, the cheapest I have used. Almost unusable (and plastic for a $30 lunch?). Mediocre at best. At half the price still overpriced. Hours later I feel as if I ate a plate of cheap oil, corn syrup, and salt. The restaurant was in good order, however, I did not visit the bathroom as others here mentioned they (unfortunately) had. The person taking orders is not very polite or understanding, definite language barrier, which I am fine with, it's a Chinese restaurant. I ordered the Dragon and Phoenix which is supposed to be stir fried chicken and shrimp w vegetables. No breaded chicken. Mine was breaded. I specifically asked for NO breaded chicken. And it's supposed to be one dish with the same sauce. This was two different meals in the same tiny tray separated by two giant lemon slices. The lemon slices added a terrible flavor to the two different sauces that were awful in the first place. This place is a joke. Even the egg drop soup is salty as Hell. Don't eat there.
