Spent 70.00 for 3 meals and 3 appetizers. They used to be generous with portions. Not anymore. Dumplings used to have meat in them. Not anymore. Crab Rangoon used to be amazing. Unfortunately, now it is just ok. The Buffett may be better when they have it, but you can spend 70.00 dollars at almost any other Chinese restaurant and get a ton of food. A large sweet n sour chicken seemed more like buying a value kids meal, and left me less than satisfied . The people are always angry looking, and annoyed at me for bringing my business. This is a super solid spot for American Chinese food. The buffet, if I remember is about 11-12 dollars for all you can eat. The food always comes out and they make an effort to make sure each of the buffet options is always available. Each of the dishes is pretty good quality. Some are better than others. I liked some of the crispy fish, the orange chicken, and the chicken skewers. They are able to make sure the food stays hot, and crispy. So this food isn't particularly healthy, but I think it's never too-greasy or too overwhelming, so you can eat a lot here. The service is fast - its a buffet. read more

Absolutely the best buffet for lunch. NOT all chicken dishes. Pork, beef, shrimp! lots of veggies. As I write this the price is $11.50. Even the tea is very nice. All drinks are extra. I'm not one to say that something is the very best ever. I am, however quick to point out when a business just gets so many things RIGHT. First and foremost: there is no gurgle stomach aches after eating Tsao's. That might sound tacky, but to me, that is very important. Second, Tsao's flavor and quality is totally on point. Two dishes that I strongly recommend: rock salt shrimp and Singapore Mei Fun noodles. Tsao's does not skimp on their shrimp-- a very generous portion. The key to this dish is the mingling of the jalapeños and garlic and salt of course. You receive white rice as well. I like to mix the rice in with the pile of shrimp. It gives the rice an amazing flavor and heat. It is important to spread the love around and give business to multiple Chinese restaurants. At the end of the day, however, exceptional flavor and quality win. read more

The rock salt shrimp seems to be a popular item on their menu based on the Yelp reviews, however when I had it I didn't like it too much. There is too much batter on the shrimp, so it was not that good. This place has limited parking, but it's never a problem when I go. I would come back to Tsao's for chinese food. read more

Great customer service This was a pick up order. I wasn't impressed with the food. I ordered off an online menu that didn't really provide much detail so maybe all the reason I wasn't impressed were stated on the menu at the store. The pot stickers were fried but not pan fried like I had anticipated. The inside contents were still delicious just a completely different texture and item I was going for. I like cheap Chinese food. You like cheap Chinese food. But, Yelpers, let's pump the brakes on the 5 star reviews, m'kay? We're taking 2.5 (maybe 3 stars if you're feeling generous, which apparently I'm not). Sure, you can't beat the price for the lunch buffet, but 5 star food you're not gonna get. Many of the dishes are passable. The General Tsao's Chicken is popular, and while I like it, it's really far too sweet, which is a problem with a lot of their food. I like that they offer Szechuan wontons... an unusual and welcome offering, but the broth is over sweet and one dimensional, which bums me out. People kill the Salt and Pepper Shrimp ('cause deep fried shrimp is just hard to mess up and it's a buffet, so fill a damn plate, amirite?). The chicken skewer thing is pretty tasty. I'm ok with the Hot and Sour Soup, but I'm not down with their bland and snot-like version egg drop (don't say I didn't warn you). Don't get me wrong, I come here a lot, but the truth is that I can only like it for what it is: a cheap Chinese buffet. Keep your expectations low and you might be impressed enough to leave one of those undeserved 5 star reviews. ;-) read more

Overall this was pretty disappointing. I did some Yelp research for good fried rice in the area and settled on Tsao's. I like to get fried rice when I try new Asian places as it tends to be a good reliable dish that should be decently similar from place-to-place. I visited on Friday around 4pm to place a to-go order. The place was completely empty being that it was between lunch and dinner. I noticed that they had a buffet area but it is only available during lunch. You can eat the buffet there or take a self-served to-go box of buffet items. The typical setup is seat yourself in the good-sized dining area and the server will come to take your order at the table. The dining area was clean and comfortable. I walked up to the counter and placed an order for the full/dinner sized chicken fried rice and I requested it spicy. Less than 5 minutes later my order was packed and ready to go. I noticed they had some soy, mustard, and chopstick packs on a serving cart behind the counter so I assumed by bagged to-go order had those extras in it but it did not. The rice itself was a good portion. It was packed tightly in one of those square cardboard boxes. (FYI, it has a metal handle on it but it is microwave-safe). The rice plopped out of the box onto my plate and held it's form perfectly - I suppose this was because the rice ended up being undercooked, almost hard. There was no flavor and it was pretty dry. There were hardly any vegetables in it minus a few pieces of what was probably canned or frozed peas and carrots, plus a few bits of onion and one or two red chilies. The one positive about the rice was that it had a good amount of clean chicken pieces in it but the chicken was kinda chewy and didn't seem fresh. I wish I had grabbed some soy packets to try to add some flavor since they didn't include any in my to-go package. Oh well. Disappointing, at least from my experience with the fried rice. Perhaps the Lo Mein or a stir-fry would have been better. read more

I missed the buffet, but the Mongolian chicken was light years beyond other places I've been to. The only place with faster service is some of the Mexican places around. Great "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant with nice size portions for their servings and great options. I love these places that make great food and it's become one of my favorite places to eat. The best food is definitely their rock salt shrimp which I haven't had before, but it's now one of my favorites with great flavor and texture. Their entrees are great to order if you're around the Air Force Base, but my favorite thing is their buffet which you can get to go or sit down and eat. read more

Update: April 1, 2011 I saw a Chinese grandma cooking the food - god, it's no wonder the food tastes so authentic and delicious. My Chinese husband mentioned that the food is mostly authentic, but a little bit Americanized to match the taste buds of Americans. I went back today for perhaps one of the last times I'll be visiting due to another military move, this time to Japan....and WOW!! Yet again, a fantastic and superb General Tso's Chicken (their best dish in my opinion)!! The crust was caramelized and sweetened (just right) to perfection. Hot, steaming (literally hot steam rising) and juicy chicken inside and not too much breading. I love this place. I will miss Fairborn for this one restaurant!! Note: By the way, if you're from the west coast looking for Chow Mein (the soft noodle kind like the ones at Panda Express or at the mall), you have to order the LO mein. As someone that grew up on authentic Chinese food, it is so hard for me to like Americanized Chinese food. But I had an itch and based on the reviews, I needed to check this place out. We went for the lunch buffet. All and all, it is a small buffet that is consistently refilled. They have some spicy dumplings and garlic green beans that I am fan of, but it's still your typical Americanized Chinese joint (better than most though). I still get that heavy feeling after I finish unlike home cooking. I think if I come again, I would try their menu on the white board. They have salt and pepper pork chops and boy choy.
