I've been here a few times, and it's hit or miss based on the masseuse. pros: 1. easy to make an appt and they're very flexible if you need to change it. 2. easy to find parking out front. cons: 1. some of their masseuses don't actually use their hands/fingers to work out knots but instead runs their hard elbows through all your ribs, which is very painful. even a day after my whole back feels bruised and is still painful to even light touch. 2. however, on other parts of the body that need more pressure (such as legs), they only squeeze the muscles lightly with their hands so it doesn't feel like a massage at all. read more

I can't believe my experience! I called and made an appt about 15 minutes prior. I got there and she says that I never called when I showed her my phone with their number she just looked at me and said she had only 45 minutes. But I booked for one hour. Ok then she says I have to pay before the massage which I thought was odd but then said ok figuring they may get people who leave. Then as I'm getting ready she says I have to pay her $20 tip!! Bc that's her money and the $60 will be her boss's. What the actual heck. Ok so the massage was ok and I thought ok maybe she redeemed herself BUT I realize she only did a 40 minute massage!?? I wasn't sure if spas were open or not so I called and was told, "Yes, we're open!" I asked about the pricing of types of massages, made my appointment since I was nearby. I was told they only accepted cash payments. I quickly checked to make sure I had cash on hand! It's a bit confusing at first when you reach the door as there's a sign that says, "Parking access in the back of building" with a small map. I wasn't sure if I could enter through that door on El Camino Real or not. I tried the door and it opened. A man greeted me and asked me about which massage I wanted. I indicated the foot massage for one hour ($35), and we had a short debate on whether I really wanted the full-body massage for one hour or not ($45). Since I only had $40 cash on me, I chose the foot massage for one hour. That allowed me at least to leave a tip. The man led me to a room sparsely decorated (perhaps because of COVID requirements), showed me to a sofa lined with blankets and towels, and asked me to lie on my back, with my feet in a large lined basket of hot water. It's an awkward position, without the knees being propped up a bit, but I figured it's not forever. I was covered with a blanket. The man then began to massage my torso and upper legs with the blanket on. After he was finished there, he then massaged the legs. I only wish he could tell when he was pressing over bone, as it hurts when pressure is applied on top of bone! I motioned that it hurt and he let up a bit but forgot on the other leg. When the massage was all done, my lower leg and feet dried, the man went away. I gathered my stuff from the small table next to me and met him at the front desk. Here we had another "debate" after I paid him with all my cash ($35 for the massage, $5 tip). He insisted that I owed more and pointed to the pricing sign he'd shown me before. At the bottom is a line that says something like, "20% gratuity is the minimum required tip." I was surprised! What if his massage was TERRIBLE and he didn't improve during the massage with feedback? I wouldn't be inclined to tip him very well at all in that case. He did a so-so job (bone pressure!) and I thought $5 was fair. We debated in Mandarin for a bit where he explained that costs are so high and that they live on tips, too. I said that perhaps they need to incorporate the tips into the massage so that 20% additional wouldn't be required. I've never been to a place where tipping not only is REQUIRED but a minimum amount is STIPULATED! Not sure I'll return if that's the case. read more

Just found Happy feet reopened! 10 am-8 pm is the hour. They set up 3 tents outside in the back, which are nice and clean. The masseuses are all wearing masks and gloves. The place prepared plenty of disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer on the outside table. They offer a combo $45 for an hour, including 30 mins feet massage, and 30 mins back massage. I appreciate a local business working so hard throughout this period and would love to support them! The massage therapist is friendly and professional. What do you expect for $35... it's a foot spa. You get a full body massage from someone that's trained to do the exact massage for each massage. Clothes are left on. Massage is ok, again you're only paying $35 for an hour so don't expect more. Overall, I've had a few amazing, a few good and a few bad massages. Came here on a whim because my feet were killing me. First thing I want to mention is this place is CASH ONLY. I don't think they made that very clear so I want to save somebody a drive to the gas station ATM. Ironically, I have found it almost impossible to get just a foot massage, despite many of the places literally having foot spa/foot massage/happy feet in their name. This place did it! There is a definitely a language barrier, but the man massaging my feet seemed to understand my charades and pointing. I think you're sort of stuck with whatever massage routine they usually do. BUT the foot massage was wonderful and just what I needed, although I can only speak for one experience. If you're expecting a spa with gentle music, glowing crystals and waterfalls....you're not going to get that here. But honestly, I would take a good foot massage in a dumpster if that's where it had to be. The massage therapist are friendly and professional. Remember, we are in the San Francisco Peninsula and the cost of living is astronomic!!! You are paying $35-$80, depending on the massage options. Your massage therapist must make a living, so I don't complain about tipping them equally as much, as I've paid the front desk person. Came into Happy Feet Foot Spa on a weekday mid day for a quick 30 min massage. The massage was laying face down and covered the neck, shoulders, back, butt, and legs. My masseuse put a good amount of pressure on my body and was targeting all the right areas. Afterwards I felt rejuvenated and less stressed. The spa was clean and played relaxing classical music. After a long stressful week I decided to visit a local massage parlor to de-stress. I called this place up to see if they have availability and they did, and I can come right away, but cash only! "Awesome", I thought so I went there right away around 1 PM. I decided to get the special 90 minute massage for $75. When I arrived, I was surprised to say the least. I wasn't put in a proper room, but in a huge open area with like 20 beds. I was somewhat uncomfortable already, but I already made the commitment and drove here, plus there weren't anyone there besides me. The masseuse didn't really speak English, which made it difficult to instruct him on what I wanted. The massage beds were so uncomfortable, so cheap (I should've known with the price being so low, so my fault), I was just covered with towels that were moving everywhere (WTF). I'm not sure if this guy is licensed, but he angled my feet so weird when he put them in the tub of water. I had to tell him to move it further out cause it was hurting my back and it was straining. After that, the overall massage was good, but when I got up I noticed my lower back was hurting. I never had lower back pain before. They don't take card, so when I presented $75 the guy insisted I have to tip in 20%. I said I can give him more next time, but noooo. So I had to drive to my bank and get him his $15, which was a hassle to say the least, added more stress to my already stressful week. I did so because I realized if they are this press in tip, this place definitely isn't paying their employees their fair share. Anyway, I'm leaving this review cause it's been four days since my massage and my lower back still hurts from whatever that guy did to it. I won't ever be coming back to say the least. High throughput low cost operation. Kind of makes you feel like you are part of a massive assembly line. We booked two foot massages on the phone with a friendly enough guy who spoke decent English in muted tones... I found out why when we arrived and greeted him loudly and was immediately hushed--behind the half wall were no less that two dozen guests being processed by as many handlers. There were more male masseuses than females. Shoes and socks off, roll pants up to knees. Then you place your feet in a tub with a disposable plastic liner filled with warm water. Firm fingertips raking your scalp. Then your arm and shoulder sockets are ground out methodically. Your feet are to towelled off, lubed, and tenderized with knuckles. Not full reflexology--more like a soothing foot rub with other parts of your body included. A hot, moist towel strips excess oil off your leg. Then you are flipped to go have both sides of your spine, shoulder blade and neck ground into submission. The massage "table" had a face cradle, but not enough chest/shoulder support--too much pressure was on my throat. Almost fell asleep several times during this chillax feel good massage. read more

Well, it's a full 24 hours later and I'm able to move. (read on for details) So, let's begin. My husband and I usually go to Pandora Foot Spa near Target in RWC. They were booked. We Yelped, Happy Feet was a suggestion, we called, booked an appointment for 9:30 (it was 8:50 p.m.), and drove on over. We walked in at 9:25, found out that we had to pay up front, and also found out that they accept cash only--no ATM on site. I waited while my husband hoofed it down the street to a gas station to pull out cash. After he came back and paid, we were promptly walked back to get our massage. I gasped! They had over 20 chairs, every single one of them had a person, and there were no partitions. It was odd to me because every reflexology place I've been to tries to give you SOME privacy. Not here. To be quite honest, I really, really wish I could go to a reflexology place that focused more on the feet. The full body massage for $25 thing is cool, but I stand on my feet all day. I really like my feet to be rubbed! My feet soaked while the guy I got went to town on my head massage. I'm a black girl, and I am pretty sure the guy said something in Vietnamese about my hair when he touched it. He wouldn't stop stroking my hair. ZOMG! His massage was the most painful massage I've ever had in my life. I YELPED out in pain at least three times. I think he forgot I had a spine, and proceeded to jab the point of his elbows along my vertebrae. I prayed that the discs in my back would stay in tact. Based on the way he massaged my butt, I'm sure he'd never massaged curvaceous hind quarters before either. I had to hear him whisper to his homies about the black girl booty. Yay. He really, really hurt my legs, my neck, and my lower back, but I was too afraid to tell him to stop or change his methods. That's my bad. He asked if I was okay, but I was too dumb to tell him no! ARGH! The foot massage I really, really wanted was quick and not that great. That made me sad. I kept hoping that all of the pressure he applied to the rest of my body would be applied to my feet, but nope! My husband said the girl that massaged him didn't apply enough pressure, but he didn't have pain. I had plans to chalk it up as a three star experience, until this morning. When I woke up I couldn't move. I thought I'd suffered from paralysis while I was sleeping. GUYS! I was scared! I was finally able to move, but my neck, arms, and back were so stiff. It pained me to move. It hurt so bad that I had to stay in bed all morning and I missed church. I missed church!! I had to pop two Advil midday, and by 2:00 I felt slightly better. Here it is 11:46 p.m. the day after the massage and my neck and back feel like John Cena just did the C-Walk all over me. So, if you're still willing to try this place here are some tips: 1. Since this is my 100th review I think it's apropos to review something that makes me happy, and that's foot massages! Today is Happy Feet Foot Spa's grand opening. My freakishly small feet are addicted to foot massages.....I went for one last week in San Jose and am happy to report that there is one in Palo Alto. Spa is located across the street from Celia's with ample parking in front on El Camino and in the back. I had a feeling I was the first customer when I dropped by after lunch. It's basically the same as the one in San Jose but with a different owner. It's dark inside, has 15 chairs and Enya-esque music. It's also spacious and not as claustrophobic. However there is no flat screen TV with nature scenes which is fine with me. The manager lady said that there are 6 masseuses and I'm sure when it gets busier they'll bring in more. When I sat down there were 2 masseuses I recognized from the San Jose spa. Prices are a bit higher - $25 (plus minimum $5 tip) for 1 hour. She said that it was the grand opening special for the month and the price will go up a little bit, maybe to $28 (not surprising since rent is expensive in the area). That's still a bargain for me since I don't have to trek down to San Jose. I will definitely include this after my shopping excursions at Stanford. The regular massage consists of soaking feet in herbs and massaging head, neck, arms and feet. I asked for a foot massage only and my masseuse did such a great job I drifted off to sleep from being so relaxed. I wish I lived closer so I could get one every week! In my previous review, I noted that I shouldn't wear black clothes to Happy Feet because I'd get lint on my clothes from the white towels they use to cover me during the massage. And what did I do today? I got lint.....again....on my black clothes! Note to self: Incorporate color into wardrobe! read more

Don't go here! I had a terrible experience last week! Omg, I went into the happy foot spa next to the construction site on El Camino (I usually go to the other one a few doors down on the corner). It was cold and empty and the male masseuse offered me a 1 hour , foot - body massage for 45.00. I never paid more than 30 or 35.00 but figured maybe due to co -vid they raised the price so I agreed. There was not an option to be outside and there was no footbath. The tech said it was due to co-vid. I said, okay and went with it. he covered me with old ripped towels - yuck. I should have walked out but in my mind I kept making excuses why it was so creepy. So the massage started and the masseuse used such intense pressure he hurt me several times during the massage and it was unpleasant. When it was finally over I was so happy! I paid cash and offered an extra 5.00 for tip (Even though I didn't think Any tip was earned). With that, this masseuse started screaming at me and pointing at the menu where it says "a 20% tip is appreciated" and he started DEMANDING that I pay a 10.00 tip instead of 5.00!!! I was frightened and felt intimidated to be bullied and threatened and it upset me. I was the only one in there beside this masseuse! Keep in mind I am a senior lady and being treated by this young man in a dark room without lights and no music during the massage. When I walked out he SLAMMED THE DOOR and Locked it!! Don't go, you have been warned. Looking back I think maybe this place was not legally opened since the city was on lock down. What a scam. Only 4 parking street slots in front but parking in the back, if you call, Ping will open the back door so you can enter from the back instead of walking all the way to the front, in the same shopping area as Chef Chau. I had looked forward to this and was aware I might not get a good massage. Even so, my therapist didn't notice I was getting stiffer the longer she massaged me and even though I said ow, she didn't change the pressure. I felt like she was practicing CPR on me! I have some spots that can be more tender and when she pressed those spots, I definitely jerk ed around and she still didn't change anything. What. The. Life is too short to pay people to let them touch you, with no positive impact, and on top of that to pay for it. Happy Feet Foot Spa surprised me big time today with there amazing outdoor service. I would imagine that massage industry is having an extremely difficult time now because of the COVID and Social Distancing order, but Happy Feet has transformed their ways to provide service and provided their customer a brand new experience. They set up those translucent white tents under the big trees at the back of the shop, which enabled fresh air flowing through and enabled the right level of privacy you would want. The coolest thing is that when you lie down, you could see the trees hugging you all round. Definitely a new experience comparing to indoor services. It provided even more relaxation and calming atmosphere than before. I am so glad that I tried their new services and took myself out of this depressing reality. Had a fantastic massage here. Jack was the masseuse. Did not speak very much English, but was very methodical and the pressure was very firm. For the price, hands-down best massage I have had in a while. They have a new extension to the building, so there are now private rooms, but you have to walk outside in front of the building to get to the private rooms, that was a bit awkward. I understand these places can vary widely with who you get, but if you like firm pressure like myself, ask for Jack, short little Asian guy. Remember to tip well, these people probably don't make very much. Don't go with the percentage of the actual price, because the price is so low. In the past I had good experience with other Happy Feet but this one was terrible. The shorter female masseuse did not apply any pressure and very lightly . I had asked her to work on my shoulders and she touched them for a quick minute and went on to work on the leg. Perhaps its not her fault, but there was 0 effort and I didn't feel relief from my aches. I went home and asked my wife to use the Theragun because that offered more relief than this persons work. They raised the prices from $25 to $35 to now $60, understandable during the pandemic. However to raise the price and offer worse service was something I couldn't stomach. On top of that they take a "minimum 20% gratuity." Do yourself a favor and skip the Palo Alto location. There are plenty of place that offer a better massage for the value just down the street. read more

I come here mostly for my feet. This place isn't a fancy spa center, but it's simple and it works for what it is. You're put in a large but very dim room with other patrons in padded lounge chairs covered in towels. I do wish they'd change the music though. I've had their regular massages but those don't really do much for me usually. Some of them start out nicely but then as others have mention in their review there's some aggressive rubbing which can include bone-on-bone (ow!) and then that kind of breaks the spell. I do mention when things don't feel good and things get changed so I can't say they're not responsive. Also, I have to admit to nodding off almost - once or twice on previous visits - once the pressure was settled. I know I've heard other guests snoring and letting a bit of gas go too! Anyway, my feet always hurt from work so when I come here I ask for feet only - no head, no shoulders or arms - just feet. Sometimes I wonder if that ruins some memorized routine they're trained to do and if they start to wonder how they're going to work on my feet for a whole hour! Regardless, my feet feel better after leaving each time. And that's worth the already cheap price for me. I've never been hassled for a tip or treated rudely in this place. I've been coming here for 5 years. The hot water soak for your feet is great! They've increased their fees, though. When I first started coming here, it was $30 an hour then about two years ago it increased to $35 an hour and now it's up to $40 an hour. I came in and got the one hour full body massage for $50. They took me in a dark room with no one else in it, which was great. I took my clothes off and someone gave me a massage. For every area they massaged, they did one half of my body significantly longer than other, which was terrible. The guy also kept burping but what was worse was when I was faced up I could smell it.
