Service- you scan a QR code on your phone for the menu. Not preferable for a restaurant with such high regard but I understand times are changing. The server herself was very kind and very attentive the whole way through and she explained the menu with great precision. Parking- if you park in their parking deck they will validate your ticket for 2 hours. Ambience- we went around dinner time and the restaurant is characterized by a very open concept space with low lighting sprinkled throughout and the usage of these tall long thick curtains help to contain the warm lighting within the space. The curtains are also used to presumably hide the entrance to the kitchen and by hiding the kitchen it sort of feels like that much more of a mysterious, sultry, and calm experience. Duck fat scallion pancake- simple, wonderful crisp, light onion flavor, a little greasy, but a wonderful starter. Sweet potato fries- thick cut Japanese sweet potato battered in a very crispy tempura-like batter dusted with ume/plum seasoning. The crisp on these fries was spectacular, very crunchy outside but a soft fry in the middle. The size and texture reminded me a lot of a Yuca fry actually. And then we asked for an extra side of the plum seasoning for dipping purposes. The plum seasoning was not what I expected- it was a sweet, very fine powder, almost like powdered sugar. When I think of plum, I was expecting Japanese pickled plum seasoning which is salty and briny and a little sweet. This was almost entirely just a sweet powder. It complimented the fries well but I can't help but feel like a more savory and salty seasoning would have paired better. Sichuan dry beef noodle- this was amazing. The beef was super super tender it almost melts in your mouth and has a wonderful savory flavor that really shines. And then the noodles underneath (we asked for thick noodles but you can also get thin) were thick almost like an udon but with more of a handmade texture that allowed the noodles to really hold onto the chili oil sauce. Overall, super flavorful dish that was hot and comforting and reminded me a lot of the flavor profile of a spicy beef stew. Braised pork belly over rice- another amazing dish. This was incredibly savory and the mixture of the tender pork belly with the pickled vegetables and the perfectly jammy egg made for a perfect bite. Black sesame tang yuan- this was the star dish in my opinion. I've never had a dessert with so many interesting flavor and texture and temperature elements. The tang yuan is a warm soft chewy sesame paste filled rice cake that offers a wonderful burst of nuttiness that contrasts super well with the creamy ice cream and the crunch from the candied peanut and the crispy shell. We were told the ice cream is actually Parmesan flavored- and while it sounds intimating, the flavor was super mild and it was almost akin to a frozen yogurt soft serve where there's a bit of tang but not overwhelming at all. And the cilantro just adds a perfect amount of savory. It's hard to explain but it's such a wonderful summer dessert that enmeshes savory and sweet with almost a Thai-like flavor profile perfectly. As for the cocktails, my friends and I prefer sweet cocktails so keep that in mind when I say that the daju kiss and the herbal harmony are very alcohol forward drinks. These are not drinks where the alcohol takes a back seat to the other flavors of the drink. Personally, they were too strong for me but that's a personal thing. The tomato tonic was a non alcoholic beverage choice that was really enjoyable because it offered the perfect amount of savory subtly tomato essence that wasn't overwhelming like a Bloody Mary. Lucky star is ALMOST there but there are a few dings to my rating that may be different depending on when you visit and how busy they are maybe. Food, was interesting and tasty! Not stand out for me but also the bar is so impressive that it is hard to compete I fear. I had some of the most creative & intriguing cocktails I have probably ever had. From flavors like sour plum, black sesame, and coffee that is clear...there was no shortage of complex profiles to try. I wish I could remember all of the cocktails, but the points are off for how long it took to get each cocktail. It seems that since these cocktails have so many different ingredients & garnish, it causes a true backup for the one bartender we had, although he was very nice and was definitely moving as fast as one could. This spot was such an unexpected find the first time I went. It's tucked away but they do a good job of pushing out flavorful dishes from that kitchen window. At this point I have tried a few of their menu offerings with some being more favorites and others being newcomers for me. I stumbled into Luck Star curious and intrigued by its vibe and drink selection having some downtime in the area. The place itself has a chill aesthetic, but service-wise, things started a little slow. There were three servers, and although I was acknowledged early, it took a while before anyone actually took my order. When I asked about Japanese whisky, my server genuinely looked like it was the first time he had seen that section on the drink menu. Not the most confidence-inspiring moment, but the bartender was friendly and willing to explore with me. I ordered the Akashi Ume Plum whisky -- neat with a single ice cube. The bartender admitted it was his first time pulling it off the shelf. Right away, the whisky had a potent alcohol smell and a clear fermented funk to it, but to my surprise, it was incredibly smooth. It warmed my stomach instantly but went down without any burn. I let it sit on my tongue to break down the flavors -- definitely plum-forward, with an earthy sweetness and subtle floral undertones that leaned almost dessert-like. To complement it, I ordered what I believe was a seasonal crème brûlée croissant, and WOW. I would fight someone for this pastry. Rich, creamy, and with an authentic brûléed sugar crunch on top -- it was perfect with the whisky. The pairing felt accidental but magical. Although the croissant took a bit to arrive, it was absolutely worth the wait. Side note: the pour of whisky wasn't just a shot -- it filled half a glass and packed serious strength with every sip, so I had to pace myself. While sitting at the bar, I also learned about their Cocktail Omakase experience -- a 2-hour curated tasting for $90 via Resy. Watching others go through it was enough to convince me I'm coming back just for that. When my wife decided to choose this, she shocked me with her loud exclamation of "OOOO I've been wanting to try this place!" Our waitress was attentive and gave great recommendations. She was just on board as we were with our choices and gave great feedback to help us anticipate the deliciousness to come. Although the happy hour menu was small it delivered on the flavor. The Island Bird cocktail was tart but paired well with the heaviness of the Mini Lu Rou Fan and brightened up the Murder Point Oysters (the sauce toppings elevated this to the max). We also had the Taiwanese Fried Chicken Sandwich which was enough for two people. I swear that it was just a whole chicken flattened and fried to perfection. The sweet potato fries that accompanied this dish were just the right amount and had a great balance of flavor of crispiness. Along with this were the Duck Fat Scallion Pancakes and Three Cup Chicken or should I say "Three Cup Heaven." I wish I didn't have to say that this meal was satisfying enough for me to just pass out on the nice and cushy seats with pillows but yeah... On top of this, I got the Crème Brûlée Croissant which would've made my day with a cup of their hot coffee. I've come here several times for the assortment of lattes and matcha offerings so we decided to come back for dinner and left disappointed. We arrived around 6:22 for our 6:30, typically Lucky Star is busy and there is a hostess greeting you at the desk but it was oddly bare which made for an awkward start. After a couple of mins we were told to grab a spot at any open table and someone would be with us shortly. Candidly that took a min as well, it seemed as if everyone was occupied with the omakase cocktail experience, which seems pretty cool. Once our waitress came over, we ordered a couple of things to share which included the Lychee Jasmine Americano and Yuzu Matcha Float for drinks and Beef Scallion Pancake Wrap, Oysters, 3g Caviar and Wagyu Black Pepper Steak for the food. The drinks were amazing per usual - but the food fell short. Despite the emptiness of the restaurant, while very good the Beef Scallion Pancake Wrap was lukewarm at best. I enjoyed the oysters but they were the last thing to come out to the table. We realized the waitress never asked the steak temp preference- when we asked, she mentioned they only serve it medium or well done and it definitely came out on the well done side which is a bit of a turnoff considering we prefer our steaks medium rare. It's pretty fatty and I don't think it serves 4, maybe comfortably 2 people. The caviar was a complete waste, it tasted metallic, so I assume something metal was used to serve. It's really a cute spot; parking is validated for 2hrs in the deck below. Once they got the music going, it's got a great vibe and moody in the best ways. Overall Lucky Star is cool for drinks and potentially pastries or desserts but I would not recommend going to dinner with the intention of feeling complete; we ended up heading to another restaurant for dinner. read more

I recently had brunch and it was a very disappointing and frustrating dining experience. First, the whole restaurant was only staffed with two workers at the front of the house, one making the drinks and the other one serving and hosting. Both moved at a slow and unhurried pace that would rival the pace of a snail. We waited 15 minutes for one beverage and then waited another 20 minutes for our food to be delivered. The worst part was that I saw our food sitting in the food window for at least 10 minutes, and the server glanced at it and did not even bother to bring it to our table. In the meanwhile, she was making cocktails for the other patrons at a very slow pace. I even went up and asked the other worker where our food was, knowing that it was sitting in the window dying and he just casually said "we'll bring it out when it's ready". To that I responded, "there's a lot of food in your window", and he didn't even bother to acknowledge that or look at the food window. We finally got our food when the cook brought the food to our table because there was no more room in the food window for him to put any newly prepared food. I even saw the cook refill waters at a later point in time. Needless to say, the food was barely lukewarm by the time we ate it. The food was just OK and lukewarm food is even worse. I have no intention of ever returning to this restaurant since the food is definitely not worth the wait. The only good part of this experience is that the server gave us a 50% discount on our tab, but it should've been 100% off. I only regret that Yelp does not have zero star as part of the rating system because one star is way too generous for this restaurant. read more

The waitress told us she would bring out the menus, but ended up plopping a hilarious wood trapezoid on the table displaying a QR code. Definitely an unexpected sight. I'm in the boat of people who want a physical menu at a restaurant so this was a bit tragic. Strong start with the duck fat scallion pancake, with its satisfying layers and deep flavor. While it became a bit too salty on my 4th piece, the sauce was tangy and sweet, a great accompaniment to the savory pancake. All went downhill during the entrees though. The braised pork portion was absurdly miniscule. If you were to sum up the entirety of the pork, you could maybe create one piece of pork that was a 1 inch by 1 inch cube. I wish I was joking but I'm not. For $16 I would expect at least 7 times that amount of meat. Plus the sauce was extremely one-noted and just tasted salty. It was a real shame because the cucumbers, mustard greens, and soft boiled egg were excellent atop the fluffy rice. My boyfriend's spicy beef noodles were also a letdown. While the beef was tender, the sauce on the noodles tasted chemical-like and borderline inedible. The pineapple cake flavored ice cream was delicious though. We visited Lucky Star in Atlanta on a Thursday night to celebrate a birthday dinner for two. Since it was a weekday, the restaurant was fairly slow, but the service was attentive. Our servers checked on us periodically and were great about clearing and cleaning the table after each dish, which we appreciated. Although each dish was considered small plates, we left full and stomachs well fed. We ordered quite a spread: beef shank scallion pancake, sausage in a sausage, sizzling eggplant & basil, Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly over rice), beef noodle soup, and black sesame tang yuan, along with a couple of cocktails (Lucky Rabbit and 5th Fruit). The cocktails were fine but didn't really stand out or leave much of an impression. The standout dish for us was easily the sizzling eggplant & basil. It arrived extremely hot and was packed with explosive flavors! The taste actually reminded us of pad ka pao, which we loved. The beef shank scallion pancake was also very good, though ours could have been served a bit hotter as it was slightly brought out cold. That said, the paired sauces were delicious and really elevated the dish. The beef noodle soup would be a hit if you enjoy beef pot roast-style flavors: rich, comforting, and hearty. The Lu Rou Fan was another strong dish; the pork belly was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised that the mustard greens ended up being my favorite part. Unfortunately, a couple of items missed the mark. The sausage in a sausage wasn't anything special, and the rice inside felt undercooked, leaving a crunchy, chewy texture that took away from the dish. The black sesame tang yuan was just okay for me. The dish had way too much cilantro for my liking, which overpowered the black sesame mochi flavor. On the plus side, the peanuts paired really well with the Hokkaido milk ice cream. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Lucky Star. There were some really great dishes and solid service, with a few misses holding it back from a full 5 stars. The standout of this location is the location itself. A beautiful and spacious layout. We went pretty early in the day and only one person was sitting inside so I'll definitely be back to work. The coffees were pretty small, but concentrated with pretty solid flavor. I had an iced oat latte with simple syrup. They don't offer vanilla, just honey and simple syrup. The space is beautiful, if a bit sterile-feeling in certain parts (like if you're sitting at the tables lining the main building hallway) due to its location. Service is friendly and seamless. Drinks are really well made and creative. Food mostly comprises Taiwanese food staples, some with a bit of a twist. The scallion pancakes are ridiculous, as expected since they're made with duck fat. My friend who had the three cup chicken really liked it, and it tasted like a faithful interpretation of the flavors albeit with a pretty small portion. I had the beef noodle soup. It was quite tasty, and the meat was very tender. I liked that they also offered some spicy chili oil to add some heat to the broth. Most Taiwanese people have their personal preferences when it comes to the type of beef noodle soup broth that they like--in terms of saltiness, oiliness, and how much herb or medicinal flavor they prefer. While the broth here was definitely less herby/medicinal and more salty than my personal platonic ideal of a beef noodle soup, it was still delicious. Prices are as expected for the upscale vibe and the area. I think that given the taste of the food and the quality of the drinks, the price is reasonable, but definitely don't come here if you're really hungry, as the portions are on the smaller side. read more

Tried this coffee shop for the first time, was pleasantly surprised! Was sad there was no parking validation so be prepared to pay $4. But the service was amazing, the coffee shop is beautiful, and the coffee was strong and delicious. Will definitely be back. Going to try to find some street parking next time read more

Amazing upscale Taiwanese bar, with interesting takes on food and drinks! As a Taiwanese-American, loved their food- although some might find it "overpriced", their spin on the food is well worth it. Of course they won't be as cheap as night markets, but the food is really good. Had the scallion pancake and sausage in sausage, and egg tart! The egg tart was super flaky with a soft center. Sausage in sausage was nicely garnished, tastes just as good if not better than night markets. Alcoholic cocktails were very nicely mixed. Will definitely recommend and come back to try more things!! read more

My review comes from a bunch/lunch POV Let's start with the good. - we had 3 different coffee drinks and very much enjoyed all of them. - my friend from Taiwan liked the food, I also enjoyed the taste - comfortable seating. Bad - while tasty food/drink is expensive, small portions. - expensive parking, does not validate. - confusing process.. for breakfast you order at the counter but after lunch they do table service? It wasn't clear. And no lunch menus, I looked up online and then my friend found a small QR code with no info printed in a wooden block that went to a menu . - my MAIN COMPLAINT. Waited time/ customer service was AWFUL. Waited 15 minutes at an empty till to just to order our drinks. Then Took 30 min to get our first set of drinks. About an hour later we ordered food.. which my friend's first dish arrives after 40 minutes. Mine took an hour (scallion pancake and it was cold). My friend has also ordered another coffee beverage at the same time she ordered food which only arrived AFTER we finished our food (so over an hour), because the waitress picked up our dirty dishes when she dropped off the coffee. We asked for waters, never got them. The it was another 40 min before we got our bill. I'm very aware of wait times esp if it was busy but there was a handful of people.. and even if it is a busy, sometimes a simple apology for the wait is nice. - out of the few things they sell, 3 of the things were not available, including the ONE breakfast sandwich they serve before the do lunch service. - because everything did take so long I ended up having to pay $20 JUST FOR PARKING/ It got one star for food/drink and once for ambiance but Sadly I can't recommend this place. read more
