Christmas Eve. Our order was placed online at 1230 for a 630 pm pick up. We checked in and waited with about 20 other people already there. The business was closed to dine in accepting only pick up delivery orders. Two u deranged minors took our payment and noted our order. After 15 min we noted the room was very tense. It seemed people had already been there waiting for 30-45 min prior to us. Uber eats came in and out and picked up orders with ease. All others waited as we did. You could hear yelling in the kitchen and people started requesting refunds. An hour in of waiting we asked how much longer, the answer was "we are going to prepare your order soon". We asked for a refund, the underaged cashiers went to the back then came back and stated, "My mom will call you for your refund she's too busy to come to the desk." We declined a phone call and asked them to get our refund since we paid cash. The child went back to the yelling and screaming and came back to cash us out. At 917 pm, we got a text that our order was cancelled reason: too busy. Sadly it was our first visit to this restaurant and our last. Can't say anything about the food. The place was dingy and worn. The service was awful as the owners never once stepped out to address the crowd and discuss their situation. The poor children should've not been attending the the check in/out counter. Learn when to stop taking orders if you can't handle the load. No one should've been treated as if their time didn't matter. read more

I was in the neighborhood so I though of stopping by Lucky Star....the reason is that they have Japanese eggplant on their menu. The one I like is called Loves Eggplant. It has a batter that is light and crispy, and a kind of garlicky sweet & sour sauce coating them (you can also choose how spicy you want the sauce). We ordered from here on Christmas Day. We didn't feel like cooking. We ordered the family dinner for 2. The amount of food we got was just not enough compared to other places.. We paid $40 to feed one person. The egg rolls tasted like they had gone bad, me and my husband both had to spit it out. The pork to batter ratio on the sweet and sour pork is sad.. The chicken was so hard it wasn't even edible. We were not impressed and honestly had to just end up making dinner anyways. We called to get a refund and complain, and they hung up on us. If no frills Chinese food is what you're after then you will get a decent meal here. They have all the standard dishes but ask for the honey walnut prawns that I didn't see on the menu. They are super large and unhealthy but a few will get you full. The Mongolian beef was pretty tasty, loads of flavour and crunchy noodles. Hot and sour soup was average, could actually be served at a warmer temperature. Service was lacking. Had to ask twice for chopsticks and took awhile to be seated and order. Stick with takeout! I don't think they are ready for customers inside yet! We came by on a Sept 2021 Friday evening and there was only one other couple dining in. We were told to pick any table by an unfriendly and stressed out waitress quickly. She took our drink order quickly but only brought us half of it. She ran away very quickly before we could comment. She was wearing a headset and taking phone to-go orders. She took a couple to-go orders (some being huge orders) then shuffled over to the other couple to refill their water. I thought, "now is our chance to order food" because it had been almost 10min since she last hurried away from us. But nope, I was wrong. She darted back to her computer to take another to-go order. Then we listened to her take 2-3 more. We put $5 on the table and left. It's sad that they didn't have help for her in front of house on a Friday night with dine-in now open. I'm assuming the food is pretty good because of the volume of to-go orders but I'll probably never return. We have too many other good Chinese restaurants closer to home. read more

My husband was craving Moo-Shoo Pork so we decided to try Lucky Star again, it had been many years since we last ate here we thought we would give it a try again. I ordered the Breaded Almond Chicken Dinner, and the waitress asked if my husband would like his Moo-Shoo Pork as a dinner special even though it wasn't on the menu. The Moo-Shoo Pork was very tasty and not overly salty. It was very nice for her to let my husband have it as part of the Dinner Combo. Finally, a consistently good Chinese restaurant. Treat yourself to the hot & sour soup. Egg rolls are always crisp, never soggy, and so hot you will have to wait a some time after cutting before you can eat it. All ingredients are fresh and cooked to order. The seats are comfortable. The service is great. And they truly care whether you liked the food or not. Oh, and the air conditioning kept me nice and cool, even though it was 95 outside the last time I visited. read more

My favorite Chinese restaurant of all time. It's simply amazing if you know what to order. I've been coming here ever since I was a kid 10 years ago when it was called "Hunan #1". Coincidentally, they make what is my favorite dish in the world. Sesame Chicken. It's perfectly cooked and the sauce is heavenly. Other dishes I'd recommend are the Walnut Prawn Salad, Crispy Orange Chicken, Egg Flower Soup, and their chow mein. I recommend this place to a lot of people I know. Just hoping if they ever close down, the chef can pass on the sesame chicken recipe. The people that work there are super nice and polite. I'd recommend ordering to-go to avoid any busy evenings! The food was wonderful, the portion sizes are large, the menu is huge, and they are always consistently busy which is a good sign. The only downside to this place was the price. I felt like it was a little overpriced for basic Chinese food. However the flavor made up for it. read more

This restaurant is like a parody of a bad Chinese restaurant. The staff are rude and never help you feel welcome, the food is subpar and overly sweet, and portions were stingy and lacked substance. The environment is oppressive and uncomfortable with its dull interior and sad, drippy piano music. This restaurant feels like it hates its customers and wants nothing to do with the community it's in. The food was edible but that's all I can say about it. Very disappointed. read more

The Chef Specials are where you want to look first; the Crispy Orange Chicken, General Tsao's, and Hunan Beef/Pork are particularly delicious. I am not sure how long Lucky Star has been located in this strip mall it is currently in, but they struck gold when all was remodeled for the arrival of Trader Joe's and some other new retailers. I was invited to Lucky Star by a friend the first time and while many other Americanized Chinese restaurants have sort of ruined the cuisine for me, I went in with an open mind. So glad I did, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. Service was spot on and so was food quality and pricing. Over the past couple years I'd say I've been here about 5 times now, so have had a chance to both dine in and do take out, as well as try a number of dishes. The Kung Pao chicken is my go-to dish here, as the chicken is sauteed with plenty of fresh veggies and an abundance of flavor. I did try a deep fried dish one time and unfortunately was a bit too greasy for me. This last time I went on a weekend and met family here. My mom noted that the lunch specials also cover the weekends too, which is a great bonus. Everyone was pleased with their meals, and some of my family can be a tough crowd! read more

Service was anything but the best when I've dinned in, but I've come to not expect it. If I lived nearby this is not a bad place to satisfy your Chinese cravings. My family and I are regulars at this place. We used to go to Engs but we get the same or better food from Hunan and it costs a bit less (and is closer). The room is pretty small but has a nice quiet feel to it. I think they do a lot more take out than sit down, but either way the food is enjoyable and the people are friendly and the service is fast. I don't know about the whole "Americanized Chinese food" criticism - I like it, and if it's not "genuine" well whatever - I'm not going to fly to China so I can satisfy some snobbery. I'm buying Chinese food for dinner in America, and right now Hunan is our favorite. The Generals chicken is nice, with just enough spice and orange (not too sweet) and I also like the Hunan chicken - it has a nice burn. We took my husbands grandparents here even though they said there was no good Chinese food in the area. The restaurant was a little hard to find due to construction on the strip mall. Once inside we were promptly seated and attended to very well. We ordered a family style dinner and everything was good. The Beef & Vegetables was especially delicious. This was pretty good. We usually go somewhere else for our chinese food, but we wanted to go somewhere close this time. The mongolian beef was good, and the vegetable eggrolls were great. The wonton soup was really good. The only part of the meal that wasn't fantastic was the almond fried chicken. It was super good, but there was too much gravy on top. Next time I'll ask for gravy on the side. The restaurant was empty, so service was fast though the server didn't seem to happy to be at work. Awesome food! Awful service! Ordered several hours ahead of time today and picked up our food. We live several miles away but ordered from here because we know the food is good. Arrived at the specified time and our food was not ready. After waiting half an hour, we got our food, took it home, and opened the bags only to find out we were not given any white rice (entrees all are supposed to come with it as of this review) and we had ordered eight entrees. We dod not get our appetizer (crab rangoon), or our soups. We actually drove all the way back with our receipt and explained. They gave us one small container of white rice and one individual serving of soup. They refused any more and completely refused us our appetizer. So, in the end, we feel as though they simply stole our money and could care less even though this has been our go to for Americanized Chinese food. Not going back again. Sad. read more
