A triumph itself in Renton, Triumph Valley has boasted versatility throughout the years since it's opening. From ramen, to hot pot, large parties and of course a traditional menu. But for those in the know, Triumph Valley is really known for their dim sum menu! Off the beaten path, you have to take State Highway 167, as its just south of the large IKEA store. But definitely a culinary landmark if you are a constant diner of Chinese cuisine, and dim sum afficianado. There are only three dim sum, or dumpling lunch providers in or around the City of Renton (technically two). This is one of them, and if you are not early, it can get really crowded, especially on weekends. But the staff bravely soldiers-on with their dilligent service. The restaurant's ambiance takes advantage of its interior with strategic lighting in their dining hall. Very utilitarian, while trying to ensure a little bit of style. They also modernize the experience with electronic waiting and ordering system on portable touch screens. It actually helps the service. No paper. As for me, my focus is on the dim sum. All of my favorites are there. And, as diner of one, it was hard not to want to order everything. So, I ordered the "basics" of a dim sum lunch. One order of Shiu Mai, one order of Har Gow, and one order steamed BBQ Pork. It was pretty much all you need along with an order of tea, as well as a Diet Coke to wash it all down. There were other traditional dim sum selections, but I knew my tummy (and wallet) wouldn't absorb it all - as much as I would have liked. Steamed beancurd sheets, beef meatballs, steamed sticky rice in banana leaves... chicken feet, it was all there. The food itself is high quality. The best pan-fried noodles I've had in a long time (aka chow mein, choose the crispy option). Dim sum is some of the best in the Seattle area. But they lose 3 stars from me because they use some kind of industrial strength cleaning chemical to wipe down the tables. Hard to enjoy your meal when all you can smell is the same chemical they use to mop the floors at QFC and in my apartment building. Seriously terrible chemical smell while you eat. If they are using a spray bottle to clean at the next table, you'll get a cloud of harsh cleaning chemical up your nostrils while you eat. I've had to rinse off and wiped down my own table with a napkin dampened with tea or water in order to enjoy my meal. When I mentioned this to staff, they were dismissive and haven't changed a thing in over a year when I first brought it to their attention. They should only be using something like quat sanitizer, that doesn't smell, to clean the tables. NOT something that is used for floors or bathrooms. and on a side note: if you decide to mop underneath another table while people are dining next to it, please say "excuse me" or just wait. Instead of almost hitting people in the head with a mop handle without saying a word. Also not great for a dining experience. I have worked in restaurants and F&B management. I know something about these things. You shouldn't use anything on a table for diners that you wouldn't use on a food preparation surface. How many times has a dumpling got away from you and bounced around on the table and you snag it and consume it, because you assume the table isn't being cleaned with floor cleaner? If you agree with me, please say something to the staff, and maybe they'll eventually listen. This is a real shame. The food quality is quite good. Probably best dim sum in South King County. I might just do take-out from now on. There are other high quality Chinese and Asian dining options, that's the bright side of living in this area. But if I'm doing takeout, I might as well just go to Dim Sum House on Beacon Hill (much more reasonable prices and good quality). read more

Unfortunately, this will be our last visit to Triumph Valley. My party ordered quite a bit of food and most of it was actually very good. We had no complaints about the majority of the dishes, the ambiance was ok and were enjoying our meal. However, one of the items we ordered, the ribs, tasted like they were not cooked properly and were extremely underdone. We politely brought this to the staff's attention thinking it would be an easy fix. Instead of trying to make it right, we were told "we can't take it off after it was ordered." That response was pretty shocking considering the issue was with the quality of the food itself. For context, we come here fairly often, I have bought my staff in several times and we always tip 20% or more. As someone who dines out frequently and writes a lot of reviews, food is obviously important but customer service is equally more important, especially these days. A simple effort to address the issue would have gone a long way. Instead, the situation was handled in a way that made us feel completely dismissed as customers. Because of that experience, I unfortunately wouldn't be able to recommend this restaurant. There are several other great options in the area that value both the food and the guest experience. The servers here were really nice, we requested a round table because the hot pot long tables were uncomfortable for our tall people (knees hit the hot pot unit), and they moved us to one. Chinese restaurant in Renton in its own building with a good sized parking lot. Serves Cantonese, Sichuan, and even hotpot. Went there for dimsum lunch on the weekend, and the place was busy. Half hour wait for a table for 4. Pretty big restaurant that's divided into at least 2 wings. The decor is kind of interesting, can't really put a theme on it. For dimsum, you don't get the choice of tea, they just give you the standard one. Ordering is done via tablet. They have a decent selection of traditional items and a few of their own specialties. Items were served pretty quickly. Out of the bunch, all the traditional items like shiu mai, chicken feet, steamed rib bits etc. were decent. The water chestnut cake was actually very good, as was the green roll with fried shrimp inside. The BBQ pork pastry was not that great, too floury and not flakey enough. My group also ordered stir fried duck tongue which was okay, but pretty pricey ($30) for the amount of meat. The dimsum items are mostly $7 each so pretty reasonable. Overall bill for 4 was $130 including tips. One of the better dimsum places I've been to in Puget Sound, but not quite the level what you can get in Richmond/Vancouver. read more

This place was okay. The service was just okay. Honestly, I've had a lot better for cheaper prices. We did love the egg plant though and the siu mai. We'd come back for that. I didn't care for the salt and pepper wings and usually you could not go wrong with those. The wings were TINY and feel like the portions were just not up to par with the price. The chicken had a weird after taste that we didn't like as well. Everything else seemed okay too. The cake noodles was my partners favorite, I thought it was okay. Honestly this is a very solid spot. Big menu offerings for dim sum, good amount of parking, and friendly staff. Interior design is kinda odd. Not bad or good. Just odd. Some of the seats are shaped like bird cages. It's kinda comical to sit in it and feel... like a bird? Food wise, I still think Diamond Bay is better, but this is certainly better all of the other dim sum offerings on the eastside. After hearing all the hype from my neighbor, The Seattle Times, and then their expansion to Shoreline, I finally made it down here. We came early on a weekend and beat the rush though the restaurant was quickly becoming more and more busy. The food was good but not worth the hype or extra effort. It leaned towards the greasier side with the fried shrimp egg roll being the best item that actually was the least greasy one! My neighbor said to avoid pork items cuz those tended to be more gamey. The place isn't the cleanest and seems to have converted an old Korean BBQ place over because the table we were at had an old grill in the middle so your legs had to stay pretty tucked in when eating. read more

Every time I am in town, I have to have dimsum here! We were seven and were seated immediately, which is unheard of here. My family comes here often and there's always a wait. I tried calling for a reservation but the phone number wasn't working. There's a waitlist you can add yourself to here but thankfully we didn't even need that! We ordered everything - string beans, taro dumpling, beef and shrimp long noodles, har gow, the har gow with chives, pork ribs, (taro cake, radish cake, and a bunch of other things I can't remember which all have gluten). Everything was great! If you need to eat gluten free, you need to tell them to remove the sauces on the long noodles. The har gows are gluten free and so are the ribs. I highly recommend 1 and 8. 1 is their specialty that I haven't found elsewhere, and it's a good balance of custard and purple yam, but the outer shell could be a bit oily. Their green beans are nice and crunchy. The other stuff is standard and harder to mess up, though my mil said the salt and pepper tofu was more firm (they usually use silk tofu). Regardless, my husband finished it all. Btw, the black bun is just custard bun since you could barely taste any matcha at all. The only thing that I'm not a fan of is the rice roll with peanut sauce ... It's just too much sauce for me. If the wait is not bad most of the time, I'd give it a five star. You have to allocate your time accordingly since sometimes you can end up waiting 1-2 hours here due to its popularity. Dim sum/canto food sucks in pnw. This place is legit. Shiu mai is huge and feels freshly made. I don't like har gao and char siu bao but like them here. The har gao is juicy and is full of huge shrimp. It had a porky broth inside similar to xlb. The tripe/stomach is very tender, like tripa tacos. Sticky rice is also humongous and full of egg, sausage, mushroom and chicken. I am really tired of mala everything so I try to eat as much canto as possible and this place is the best. read more

We came here because we were craving dim sum and this hit the spot. This is located in Renton and has a large parking lot. The restaurant has ample seating and was able to accommodate our large party of 8 quickly. The food itself for the most part was great. Their ordering system is through an iPad and they bring the food out to you. The only issue that we really had was that in the egg flower soup, we literally spit out two pieces of eggshell from different bowls. I mean hey at least you know it's fresh eggs but do a better job of cracking them. We ordered a lot including: salt and pepper squid (a fan favorite - it looks bland but nicely flavored), shrimp and chive dumplings (so plump and juicy, soup dumplings (these were just OK, the soup and dumpling itself were kind of bland imo), tripe (nice portion and flavorful), pork spareribs (my first time trying but really juicy and tender), Mongolian beef (flavorful but even their mild was a tad spicy for us), roast duck (another favorite - crispy skin and juicy duck), beef chow fun (nothing special but I was a fan of the portion size) The service itself was below average. Thianolace has plenty if parking and the service well they just bring out the food but brought water and tea fairly quick. There is not much service but it is a busy place for lunch on a Friday. While we were walking out they told someone in the phone they are booked ni reservations for Saturday or Sunday. The portions and size of Haw gow and sui Mai are larger than most places. I loved when it was hot and fresh when you get the food. The only thing not hot was lo bok go. Turnip cake. Someone in our party had heard good things about this place so we decided to check it out for lunch. It's a large stand-alone restaurant with lots of parking. Inside there is a cute little game area and a large banquet room. Beyond that it is the main seating areas. I think it is quite unique that it serves both din sum and hot pot and the menu is very extensive with some unusual items. There is an iPad in which you can view the menu and place your order; the only thing missing is the ability to pay on it. As I've come to expect for dim sum, service was efficient and everything came out quickly, and the portion size as well as the actual size of the dim sum pieces were larger than I'm used to. But of course not a bad thing, especially for the price and there was lots of leftovers to take home. Sui mai is good, cherng fun is good and the chicken feet are hella tender. The satay tripe is OK, a bit sweet and portions for the tripe are on the smaller side compared to the Bay Area. The egg tart exceeded my expectations and is likely one of the best I've had. Very flaky, perfectly sweet, and the egg custard is a tiny bit on the watery side. I'm told finding really good dim sum around Seattle is a big challenge. Kind of surprising. We arrived around 3:00 on Sunday, so we weren't surprised by the lack of people. The staff were quick to get to us and explain the process. The dim sum was so good. A bit greasy, but tasty. They also make a mean shrimp dumpling and roast duck. Again, the waitstaff is available and efficient. The atmosphere was very comforting, too. They have a large menu and an interesting order by tablet system. Old boomers like me aren't quite used to this technology, but it worked out. If we make it back here, I want to try the Lamb Shoulder hotpot. C'mon Renton! Stop giving 5-Stars to restaurants that SUX! First off the place is like a maze inside and in much need of a deep cleaning. The decor is left over from the '70's. To match, they blast muffled bad '70's music. The place has an awkward vibe. There is no real serving staff. No one to check on you. Instead you have to "request" for someone to come out from the back by using a tablet menu. Assuming if they come out. When they do come out they are rude and don't really want to serve you. The food took forever and there was hardly anyone in the place. When the food started to come out instead of bringing it straight to our table the server decided to have a 10-15 casual conversation with another staff member while holding our food. The food was tasteless and bland. No flavor whatsoever so ever. The Chow Main was just under cooked noodles with no flavor nor toppings. The Sesame Balls were over cooked and hard.
