3 out of 5 for the coffee, minus 2 out of 5 for the service. This is a case of a few bad apples spoiling the basket. 75 percent of the workers are decent enough at their jobs. There are two in particular who are not; Donovan (pony tailed guy) and Emory (short curly haired blonde). Between them, they have refused to serve me in favor of flirting with other customers, played around on their phones after taking my order and ignored me, handing me broken cookie crumbs in a bag and charging full price, underfilled my drink and acted uppity when I asked them to fill it properly, and scowled at me from across the room for as long as I've been coming in for no discernable reason. I got so tired of it I had to start sitting outside to get away from it, but the passive-aggressive hostility hasn't slowed down. This is just not acceptable. I've complained multiple times over the last few months, but nobody has taken action to rein in these two individuals' behavior. Since there is no manager on duty, there is no adult to keep them in line. I have officially reached my limit. I recommend that you walk the other direction if you see these either of these two, unless you enjoy condescension. I certainly will be, as I have no interest in paying money for this kind of treatment. Their attitude is an insult to me, their own place of work, and their more capable co-workers. read more

The atmosphere makes this place! It is very artistically pleasing and has their own homemade chocolate. All the ingredients in their pastries are clean. As a body builder I am always cautious of what I eat because it can upset my stomach. All the pastries have the ingredients shown and are made fresh. Gluten free options as well. The drinks have milk substitutes which is a win for me since I'm lactose intolerant. I had a chai latte with almond milk and their Banana Cashew Bar. Both were delicious and not too sweet. The Bar was a big portion and well priced (my picture shows half of it. Delicious !)All their pastries were 2-4$ and make fresh and with clean ingredients. Can't get better than that! Went into the lucky tree this morning. purchased one of their vegan muffins and cashew bar. As she set it on the counter, a cockroach crawled out of the bag onto the counter. I called the girl over and she was kind of freaking out. I swiped it on the floor and stomped on it. She didn't ask me if I wanted a different muffin or my money back. She was in a state of panic, asking her coworker for help. I just got my change and left and threw the muffin and cashew bar in the trash.Have been here several times to get coffee while working on the local railroad. The service has always had this underlying Bohemian snobbery to it. Coffees good but I'm not quite sure the cleanliness standards are up to par. place seems to have a pretty steady clientele. Lucky Tree is a hidden gem right across the street from Meredith college! There are so many parts of this place that I love. Lucky Tree has delicious coffee and baked goods, but that is not where it stops! It also doubles as a local art & gift shop! While you are waiting for your latte, you can shop some high quality and unique items. I also love the seating area. There are big communal style tables and also little cozy corners with hip furniture! The staff is top notch and super welcoming! My only two drawbacks: 1) Bathroom: They don't have a bathroom in their space and you have to walk into an indoor mall type space to get to it. Make sure to ask where it is so you don't get lost like me! 2) Parking: If you come here on a Sunday during the NFL season, you will have a hard time finding parking. There is a New England Patriots bar next door and an insane amount of people crowd it! TLDR: Great place for interesting coffee mixes and teas. Super granola (in a great way), and not for those who are into super sugary drinks (e.g. Starbucks). Not necessarily an every week coffee shop, but a great place to go with a friend. Location: Solid parking options off of Hillsborough. If you want to meet a friend for coffee and don't want to deal with parking in downtown or move deeper into Hillsborough street where parking is much more difficult, this is a great spot. There is garage parking available as well but usually you can easily find parking. This feature of Lucky Tree honestly is one of my favorite parts. (E.g. if you want to have a quick business coffee / meet up you don't want your counterpart to be struggling to find parking in the precious lunch hour). Coffee: Not really a place if you are into hardcore pour overs / dialed in espressos and drip coffee made w/ a refractometer. BUT, awesome place if you want to try interesting coffee blends that don't entail syrups that come out of pre-bought plastic jars. They make their own vanilla / mocha. I usually like the beans to be the thing that shines, but their blends are subtle and they use great ingredients. *** key thing to note *** if you do love that syrupy sweetness of Starbucks and love sugary drinks, this isn't the place for you. If you like subtle flavors, then this is your spot. Lucky Tree is a great spot on Hillsborough Street (near NC State's campus and across from Meredith College.) They offer great coffee options as well as specialty lattes. All of their baked goods are gluten-free and very reasonably priced. My favorite is the Vanilla Cranberry scone. There is often a live musician which adds a nice vibe but can be loud/distracting if you are going to work. Also, the seating can be difficult during the day if you are going to stay for a while. read more

I definitely loved the vibe of this coffee house. The decorations are adorable and it felt cozy as soon as I walked in. I ordered a cappuccino, which was very delicious. The muffins and scones looked tasty and I look forward to trying one next time. I was bummed that there were no seats available inside; every table was full. I suppose that is a good problem to have. It seemed like a popular place for students to hang out and do their class work. I was also hoping for a nice ceramic mug for sipping my cappuccino, but there were only to-go cups and lids. Here are the facts: - Both employees behind the counter wore masks while taking my order. - There are social distancing markers (in the shape of hearts) on the floor. - There is a sign at the entrance that says masks are required. Here are my observations: - I visited on a Monday morning. There was a study group in the back with more than 5 people. They were huddled together; some wore masks while others didn't. - There is enough space inside to be socially distant from people... if they are nowhere near capacity. I saw a few singles spread out. They were not wearing masks and appeared to be reading/studying and not drinking any beverages. - During my visit, they left the door open, presumably for ventilation purposes. - The café takes up one unit of a building. The restrooms are outside the café (but still indoors) and the building asks that people wear masks when going there. However, I saw a man sitting in this area without a mask on. - There is limited outdoor seating outside the café (~3 benches). If you snag 'em, they're great for catching up sans mask. Unfortunately, no pictures for this business because I was doing a team meetup and it's not my job anymore. What a cute coffee shop! All the Instagram aesthetics y'all and the nicest staff. I lived in Raleigh for almost 10 years and I didn't discover this place until after I move away?! lowkey excited to visit again when I come back to Raleigh. During game days the parking lot outside will be full due to Brick House, but just go around the corner and there will be an undergrown parking garage (FREE), as well as, on a parking lot to other places nearby that are shared. Once walking in you're greeted by their giant wall of green picture frames, as well as, their organic bakery items. Unfortunately, they don't have any salty treats BUT lots and lots of sweet things to nibble at, as well as, oatmeal. I ended up getting tumeric, ginger tea...was nursing a hangover haha and had a nice chat with the current employee. She was so beautiful. There is also local art and handmade jewelry, so definitely check that out while you're waiting for your drink. I also so some people playing scrabble! I was so excited to see this because my boyfriend and I would always frequent Cup-A-Joe (THE OG) but always love finding other places to play board games at on a Saturday or Sunday morning. If I was attending Meredith college or still living near NCSU, I would definitely hit up Lucky Tree for a new meet up spot or just a beautiful aesthetic place to do homework or work. The combination of things that make up The Lucky Tree is like peeling the onion. The coffee shop seems to take center stage at first. With the usual offerings, it has all the options you would expect. They use beans roasted by a business in Durham. It is local. It is as you wait for your coffee you begin to notice the other things: the long coffee bar with the mosaic inlay, the almost garden table and chairs with strategically placed throw rugs. The tables are old maps in picture frames, a unique item that forces you to see what else may be hidden in plain sight. Then you notice the coffee table with a top textured to look like coffee beans. Or maybe it really is lacquered coffee beans. The ceilings are open, perfect for the mannequin on a swing hanging from the ceiling in back, the old ladder leaning against the wall holds the chalkboards of specials. Curious, whimsical, practical, all in one. Then the gift shop items catch your attention. The jewelry, the hand-made soaps, the t-shirts all locally made. And, finally, the art itself, again by local artists and some made with recycled/upcycled things. The large display table in the back has old sewing machines for its base. There are a few chairs along the sides and in the back as well -- if you can sit still long enough to enjoy it. The Lucky Tree used to be Lucky Pie in Cary. They've relocated to a larger space that gives them more room to display their wares, and a relaxed place to enjoy some coffee. read more

I'd say this is a hidden gem located in Raleigh. Think coffee and pastry shop (with tons of gluten-free, dairy-free, and Paleo options!) combined with trinket/vintage jewelry store. Walking in, I immediately felt a wave of happiness, seeing the pastry case filled with all these delicious cookies and bars. This time around, I wasn't super hungry, so unfortunately I wasn't able to try any of their food. However, I did order a small cold brew that tasted incredible! Not too acidic, which I like when I drink coffee, with a pleasant note of chocolate with every sip. Their cold brew was also super strong - so strong, in fact, that I ended up with a massive caffeine headache. (So worth it, though.) If only Lucky Tree had a location closer to my apartment in Durham... otherwise, I would love to come here every day to study or read with another cold brew in hand. read more

Very cool place when it comes to coffee, ambiance and staff. I just have a couple issues that put this in solid 3.5 territory. You would be hard-pressed to find a more charming setting. "Maud's," but not too many others. The whole gift shop scene is inviting and useful to just about anyone but me. Bowls, necklaces, etc. The wares look cool but I find them to be otherwise useless. There's nothing in here for me but coffee. The real drawback here is the horrible acoustics. The music (which is fine) sounds to be at the same level as the two women talking in the back corner, and they are a good distance away. I hear their conversation so well that, mixed with the music, it all sounds like a bunch of Charlie Brown teachers mumbling at once. The coffee is good to very good. My Mexican bean espresso had a distinct flavor and an almost immediate kick. The drip coffee was medium roast south American and it tasted fine enough. If I was gonna rave about anything here, it would be the cool, mellow baristas. A nice spot if I'm in the area, but I don't think i'll go out of my way to get here. read more

I came here to get some work done and get a coffee on a Thursday morning. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk (my usual). It was nothing special, but came out quick and with good service. I did not try any of their pastries, but they do have a large selection of delectable desserts. The shop has a lively vibe with a lot going on. There is art, jewelry, and such available for purchase. I went around 9:30AM and there was no line, but it was quite crowded. I was able to park in the back behind the building. Inside the shop there was no available seating and it seemed to be filled with college aged(ish) students. Overall it is a fun place to check out, but I prefer to get my coffee elsewhere! read more

My husband is a coffee snob... he has a coffee subscription service deliver freshly roasted beans that he grinds in the morning to make pour overs or French press... and he was impressed with Lucky Tree. I subsist on kcups and I loved my maple vanilla latte. Desserts here are allergen friendly! Perfect for my dairy sensitive, egg allergic toddler who likes trying tiny morsels of my food. I tried the scone and a lemon almond cookie-- you wouldn't be able to tell it apart from non-vegan, gluten containing treats.
