If there was a well curated award for vintage, Lucky Ballard would win. I love the location aesthetic, and placing of the clothing. It doesn't feel vintage, nor does it have a distinct 70's era feel like some of the other vintage shops I've gone to. It feels classy and sophisticated. Do you have a scotch and we can talk vintage buttons, sowing techniques, and made in Seattle brands? The only downside is that staff have appeared really snooty. I feel collectors of vintage know what they are looking for and this shop caters to this. Prices are also high for what I could hunt for online or from a private seller. The plus is that the clothes don't have the Goodwill smell and you are getting a garment that is really being looked over for holes and is steamed. The Lucky vintage on the ave is not as well curated. It has a different feel and it reminds me of a vintage Salvation Army . I feel it's the aesthetic, lighting and space. I do like the pops of pastels that stand out more in the clothes than the Ballard location. Staff are also snooty and don't really appear to greet or ask if I'm looking for something. Wow!! This is truly one of the best "real" vintage stores in the Seattle area. A lot of thrift stores that claim to be vintage really don't have any vintage items but lucky vintage had the most incredible selection of beutiful and fashionable items. I'm not going to lie I spent over $200 here BUT I'm not mad about it at all everything is VERY fairly priced. Also the last working was so nice and friendly! Overall I highly recommend this place for amazing vintage items for a great price, you won't be disappointed! read more

If you need a really bizarre polyester dress with weird color, collar, cut... This is the place. That being said it is small enough to look through quickly and isn't busy. Heed this warning, make sure you're getting what you want the first time. Very negative experience, the only positive I found is the interesting old clothes. This is the same management as the one in ballard called lucky dry goods What's the point of a return or exchange policy if you're cross analyzed and investigated for a single return with a receipt in deadline? I couldn't even get my store credit back for a leather jacket I bought there, even after calling in beforehand. The manager rubbed me the wrong way she is intentionally evasive and uses her employees to reduce returns through confrontation on her policy (which was followed). This makes the employees visually uncomfortable. All I wanted was a garment with a good fit and to check both my options in both stores ballard and university way. To make matters worse store credit is given to you on a small flimsy peice of paper, so if you're going to be using it they will also be skeptical of you. Not only did I feel unwelcome shopping here, even after deciding to spend twice as much and not getting what I wanted, I've wasted my time and money read more

Oh this is a place that I've always given the benefit of the doubt. However, they have no interest in treating their customers well. Retail is a social business. It's imperative that lucky vintage comprehend that how they treat customers leaves a big impression and regardless of the quality of the things that they intake and represent to sell, there is no warmth, welcoming feeling or winsomeness in their approach. The products vary. Their kindness and zest for developing a customer base is so lacking that I will no longer give them my money. Also vintage is not stuff 20 years old. SMH read more

Lucky is a small, happy vintage store with mostly women's clothing. Great finds here. A lot of hats, purses and some scarves too. The one gal that was working looked like she had stepped out of a '60's movie and was really cool. She asked how we were and left us to shop. read more

Good affordable vintage stores in Seattle are about as common as Yetis. Truly, I dart through the forests of Seattle shopping hoping to spot one, but it always proves elusive and the best I can do are some blurry photographs. I love Lucky. Very well curated collection, broad enough that you can do some real shopping, but small enough that you're not elbow deep in smelly Cosby sweaters before you find the gems. I love me a good vintage dress and I've found some zingers in here. My favorite is a watermelon-colored (pink and green) plaid Pendleton wool jumper. It has pleats! It completed my life and it didn't even wipe out my checking account in the process. Now that I've said such glowing things, have I mentioned there's a curse? Yeah, on the size 10 dresses. Lucky Vintage is EXACTLY that! I mean whenever I go into any vintage store you just never know what may come about or what awesome things you may find..! On the other hand, sometimes I just don't find anything and go home bagless =( But at lucky I've bought so many random things (THAT I ACTUALLY USE!) and am that much more accomplished by it. I do love the thrill of finding that buried treasure hidden within those racks. Vintage shopping is like fishing. You really have to wait for that big whopper before you can appreciate the art. And once you do catch that marlin, BAM you are hooked for life =) Also they have a good dressing room and plenty of mirrors! Plus accessories lined up against all the walls. Something of a used clothing junkie, I recently spent a day merrily thrifting in Chicago, where quality vintage stores abound. Upon my return to Seattle, I was bewailing our city's paltry recycled clothing scene. This lamenting was a tad unfair. Over time, I have been able to establish a small but trusty circuit of shops through which to get my fashion fix. Although I'm generally satisfied with my finds, something about the experience is lacking. I find that most thrift stores in Seattle are: a) hipper than thou (and poorly lit) or b) dirty and disorganized. Lucky is neither of these. I discovered Lucky, in keeping with its name, by happenstance. En route to Buffalo Exchange, I parked near the corner of 50th and the Ave to avoid the vexation of maneuvering on a busy stretch. As I stepped out of my car, a yellow 60s sundress beamed at me from a store window. What's this? A fresh face on the vintage scene? I wandered in and was immediately impressed: well organized, sunny atmosphere, unassuming vibe. The tags bear affordable prices and little descriptions that serve to orient and often, inspire e.g. "this screams 40's sexpot librarian!" Other bonuses: roomy dressing rooms, a large slip collection, a selection of charming home goods. The owner was kind and helpful. She gave me patient and honest advice on belt/dress coordination, let me put items on hold until I could bring stuff in for potential trade, and marked down a dress that wasn't hemmed. It's also a solid place to sell. I sold several items and she paid fair prices. (I think she buys from 12-7 Tue-Sun. This place is pure vintage only--no throwbacks.) Vintage-ites looking to buy or sell: do not delay in adding this little gem to your circuit. read more

Staff is really kind & friendly, pieces are a bit pricey but in my opinion, worth it (good quality vintage pieces in great condition). I love old things, always have. My mom tells me that as a kid I never wanted to throw anything away, even when we bought new things to replace them. Going to vintage stores is like reliving my childhood. And this place is the good times. There is a ton of cool items stuffed into this tiny store. You have to be ready to sift and sort but there are true gems at good prices. Stuff I've found here include 3 awesome pairs of cowboy boots (2 men's, 1 women's), belt buckles, button-up shirts, to-die-for earrings and my latest find: vintage glasses. Yes, I just got a brand new pair of (cheap) glasses and wasn't actually in the market for new ones but they caught my eye in the jewelry case and they are an extension of my personality. I got new lenses put it them and they are seriously snazzy. Did I mention that they are gold-filled and only cost 24 bucks? Heck yeah! Come in here with an open mind and you will find some very interesting stuff at reasonable prices. Or you could not and just leave all the goodies to me. Either way. read more

Sissy's getting married in a barn in a few weeks. Thusly, I needed cowgirl boots. After many hopeful yet unsuccessful trips to thrift stores, I ended up at all the vintage stores on The Ave. They had quite a selection of boots, probably 10 pairs in various sizes. I fell in love with some grey suede ones with blue stitching, and $32 later, they were mine. MINE! I also almost walked out with a fancy blue party dress from the 50's, a fur stole (but that's just wrong, right?), a vintage parasol, and about half their jewelry and handbags. Everything was very nicely displayed and seemed reasonably priced. And the girl working was super nice! If I were a funkier person, I might start shopping here for all my clothes, but the frumpy teacher in me won't allow it. read more

It smells like old people in here. You know how they say smell may be the most effective of our senses that trigger memories, well Lucky's definitely did the trick. The strange thing about smells of old things, is that you're not quite sure whether the memories being conjured are your own. Still, nostalgia is a primary motor in terms of modern consumption, especially when it comes to the northwest, and I my friend, am in a sentimental mood. I recall summers, good friends, holding hands, getting gifts, birthdays, parties, dinners. All memories seem to intertwine around this "vintage" smell. I really like the clothes here. There isn't anything "ironic" about it. The prices are fair and there's something comforting about the little messages on the price tags. Something letting you know that it's not just about the money, but the memories that permeate each item. read more

Hands down one of the worst places to sell vintage. Not knowledgeable about true vintage. Wanted to test and see, since I had a friend of mine tell me to sell there. The girl behind the counter was snobby as hell, she barely said two words to me as she plunged her hands into my goods. She Takes the items she selected and proceeded to rip me off and offer me the most ridiculous amount of money, as if I wasn't in this game and wasn't a true vintage reseller. Long story short saw the same/similar item I sold to them at Inspiration LA, in their booth marker all the way up, I chuckled to myself and walked away. Popped in here with a friend one afternoon after parking in front of it while on our way to grab some Shinka Tea. Place is pretty crowded, but they, that's how I like my vintage stores, so I was immediately at home. If you want a good array of RANDOM vintage clothing, COME HERE. They have things from oxfords, to red and green plaid blazers, to 80's inspired sparkling teal dresses, to mink boleros and fringed leather bikini tops. Be ready to walk in expecting nothing, yet looking forward to everything. Because you never know what they'll have in stock that day. I would highly suggest the belt section if you're looking for a place that's constantly overlooked. They have some pretty sweet color-block belts that I've had my eye on for some time. :) read more

I've never once written a review on Yelp, until today. I bought a piece of clothing for a Halloween costume, walked down the street and found one with a better fit. I tried to return it 10 minutes later and they informed me it was store credit only. There is no signage of any kind saying this. At all. I asked if they would bend this rule since it had been 10 minutes and they refused, instead offering to buy it back at a third the cost. If you're going to have this policy, say it. Somewhere besides the receipt. Finding out after you purchased doesn't help. read more

Lucky Vintage is now my favorite vintage store. Unlike other vintage stores, Lucky's price are reasonable, and the the selections are proportionate to the size of the store. I was impressed that Lucky had my size, and other stores rarely do. They have quality vintage, and not cheesy vintage, so it is worth the trip over to shop. The staff was professional, helpful and not overbearing. Lucky is an asset to the community. read more

I went there this morning to see if my short sleeve shirts and a hoodie that I only wore a few times can be bought from me. Again, they want spring shit. I looked around the racks and they do not have my size. Worst is that very expensive plus some shirts seem to be worn more than 10 times that some of the material on some seem that it will tear within next wash. They rejected my stuff because it is not spring season. I have short sleeve tshirts with logos. They look in excellent condition. I was very angry and since I moved from California. I will go to a place there and for sure they will buy my clothes that I know up here does not have. read more

I suppose any vintage lover would have a blast at this store. (Which isn't me, but I can be objective!) Thankfully, even though the store has TONS of stuff for such a small space, it is very nicely organized, and browsing through it is a joy. They have a large men's selection, very nice letter jackets, lots of 50's and 60's dresses, a great cowboy/cowgirl boot collection, and overall a million things to look at. My boyfriend (actually, not I) found me an AMAZING pair of vintage lace up leather Nordstrom brand ankle boots here for like $25 (& in my size! which never happens) I was sorta blown away they were so cheap & in such good condition. They've got a ton of clothing & accessories to peruse through & everything was very well priced. Much better than in Southern CA. I wish I'd had more time to look through the store + the other vintage shops on the same street. The girls at the counter were great & helpful. I've no qualms at all. read more

I've never been let down by Lucky. Somehow they always have at least one or two things which will allow my costume to dominate. My favorite purchases have been the brown 70s western-style suit with the shimmering green rhinestone-studded shirt with a butterfly collar that you can see in one of my profile pics. The other is a shirt I picked up tonight for a forthcoming disco party: a polyester mega-collared shirt with galactic designs on it. I was getting dinner a month ago across the street from Lucky and saw the most beautiful dress in the window, the store was closed, but I know I would have to remember to come back one day. Now if you've seen me about at some dance event here in Seattle you know I dress to the nines, so this past weekend I went back to find that dress, sadly it was gone but I left with 4!!! Thank god there are cute new vintage places like Lucky on the Ave and Sugartown in Ballard popping up around town. I was getting pretty tired of the Capital Hill Red Light/Atlas circuit and U-District Red Light/Buffalo Exchange or (ugh) Crossroads. Lucky is like, concentrated in cuteness and cheaper than the aformentioned locations. Dresses, shoes, accesories, bags, tops, etc. And I love that she sells vintage housewares. She even writes a loving description of each item on the price tag. My advice is to skip Red Light and don't even try Atlas because Lucky will make your vintage dreams come true. read more

BITCHY STAFF!! Little advice to the girl at the counter - if you want to sell your RIDICULOUSLY overpriced items, you might have a better chance if you try to be a little more polite. Some of their items looked good but nothing you couldn't find anywhere else, especially at a better price. A few items I saw were pretty well stained and others ripped, and not in a repairable fashion. Keep walking, there are better thrifts in the area! read more

I like to browse here and have no issues with what they sell. It's the staff. I've been here often enough and notice that the staff is not very friendly at all. I just went in on May 2nd and there was no one else in the store. I browsed for quite a while and the girl behind the counter never acknowledged me once....no "hi". She was on her laptop and even when I went right up to the jewelry counter where she was....still no "hi". So I wrote it off to her being stuck up. Valley of the Roses a few doors down has better items at a better price and the lady, Mary, is super friendly! read more
