I have had fun over the years coming to gather for excellent quality used clothing. The owner has always been helpful and even steamed a dress for me once for free. The staff care about making sure you are happy with your selection and are patient with questions. I have enjoyed browsing the jewelry and accessories as well. Only thing I will say is there is rarely much in the way of larger sizes. Pretty much stops at a women's large. And I have never had luck consigning here. I will NOT consign here EVER again or walk into the smelly shop. I brought two batches of clothing there and regret both. The first time they managed to sell a few items and were supposed to give the rest back. When i noticed a Ralph Lauren cashmere cardigan was missing they said "oh it was pulled". What does it mean? It means "there was a snag when we prepared it so we threw it away" This was a cardigan worn once and was in near perfect condition ... Megan said very impatiently: "Read your contract and it is perfect normal for us to pull an item." Now I am here and reading reviews left by others I realize this is something they do on a regular basis!!!!! Why I work with them a second time? I do not know but regret it. This time I am two days late in picking up my items and they "donated" everything including a pair of $200 Rags and Bones jeans in great condition. Two days late and there was an Eastern Sunday and a Monday during which their shop was closed. But I do not believe there happened to be "an annual donation" during those two days and those Rags and Bones jeans "went to that donation". You can tell when people lie. I am afraid these are not honest people. Be cautious. read more

When I leave reviews for businesses I try to be as honest as possible and also give them the benefit of the doubt. I gave this business a chance after one bad experience. Unfortunately they were not able to make it up to me. My first issue with this business is that they have a very poor tracking system for the items that customers want to consign. Out of the five items I wanted to consign, only one sold. Which is fine. But then the employee recommended that I keep one of the items in-store since it will be in season the following month. She said that it would have a good chance of selling. I agreed. The problem is, they didn't give me a time frame of when to pick it up if it didn't sell. So months go by, I call and check up on my item and they say, "It looks like you didn't pick up your item. It was due to be picked up two weeks ago and we donated it." I explain to them the situation and how they told me to keep my item in the store for the new season. The rifle through your records and after 15 minutes of being put on hold, lo and behold!! My item was still in the store! So basically if I hadn't asked them to double-check their records, they would have made a profit off of my item without including my share. After this very shady ordeal, I decided to just take my item back and never come back to the store again. On top of this, every time I came into the store, there was always a tone and sideways glance at me, as if my items were not deserving of their store. It was a very unwelcoming feeling. This place is quite a disappointment, especially considering that I have been in the neighborhood for over 15 years and absolutely love Columbia city. I love it when you find that perfect fit... you look to the right, left, sideview and then dead on! BANG!!! This shop is what I call "a bit of paradise"! "come in, come in" coaxes the cool colors and clean vibes of this space. I am in a trance as I sigh at the beautiful calming decorations of this shope. Decorations that not only hang on the walls, but on the racks, display cases and cool lighting... even the bathroom is fabulous... no joke... the owners chuckled when I admired their decorated space! But the quality of the clothing and accessories is so much better. My daughter found a number of moderately priced items. OK place to shop but I've had far better consignment experiences. They pulled my unsold stuff off the floor a week before they said they would (as in, put it in some pile that presumably goes to Goodwill). So when I called to collect my goods--on the date they told me to call--they told me I'd have to wait for them to get back to me because they needed to go digging around for everything. If you're going to do this, why not give me a call so I can go pick everything up instead of making me wait around with my fingers crossed that it all didn't end up at Goodwill? It's a small place...calling someone and leaving a voicemail doesn't seem too unreasonable. Very unprofessional and NOT a good way to treat your suppliers. I guess I'll stick to Ebay from now on. read more

At first glance this looks like a great find but buyer beware. I stumbled upon this place and browsing the racks found two what I thought were decent finds. One of them was I'll stand by that, can't remember the label but cute work shirt. The other I purchased and then realized the label was from target...and like an idiot I probably paid more than what target had originally charged for it. Needless to say I felt duped but consumer awareness is my responsibility so I'll take the hit of $32 some odd dollars. What I also noticed after I had left was that the two items I purchased were sale tags but I hadn't been given the sale prices. Really disappointing but also I should've noticed at the time and didn't so my mistake. I then however returned with a bag of items to consign - I waited almost an hour for this store employee to go through maybe 15-20 items? The store was empty so I'm not sure what else she was doing but I assume they make you have an appointment to make the best of both our time however I was wrong. After the hour wait I was told my clothes were 'too loved' which is the biggest crock I've ever heard as many if not all of these items had tags on them. The employee handed me back my bag as if it was diseased and I felt like I'd wasted her time but what I had brought in was either new or worn once so her reaction was inappropriate and unwarranted. Overall, this place is a hard pass with overpriced big box retail items and the occasional gem in the mix but do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. read more

Gather has been on my list of shops to review for a while and last week I finally got there. The drive went through a part of Seattle that I had never seen before, really having no idea where I was or where I was going. Upon arrival, the street was cute, so was the sign and the window displays made me salivate. So far, so good. Several items caught my eye immediately upon entering: gorgeous coat, spankin' hot boots and a jewelry case. I was trying on coats right over my clothes within 10 seconds. The shop is fairly small but extremely organized with plenty of room to move around. The rounders have the standard separation by type of garment (rack for shirts, rack for skirts, pants on the wall, etc.) Rifling through the racks I found a complete absence of crap. EVERYTHING was well selected, clean and clearly separated by size (XS-XL, no plus sizes). This shop had the best selection of any shop in Seattle that I have seen. There was plenty of I.N.C.- higher end department store stuff, designer items and high quality garments with unfamiliar names. That unusual, well-crafted, slightly different designer-y stuff that you get at boutiques is my favorite kind of thing and they had lots of it. Who cares about Gap t-shirts? Just go to the outlet. Ok, so lots of great stuff including shoes, boots, handbags, and hats, all displayed in interesting ways. Not bargain basement prices but certainly reasonable, especially for the quality and the fact that it's in Seattle. A high shelf runs around the whole shop displaying home décor, all very cool. Turns out that the owners, Megan and Dan, opened the shop together about 1 1/2 years ago, which was surprising because the shop really has a flow and an evolved sense of design, something that takes most people more time to develop. Megan and Dan clearly know what they are doing, so much so, that they were turning consignors away due to having too much fabulous inventory. But they were very nice about it. This is how nice these people are. There was an irresistible coat in the window on a mannequin. Now EVERYBODY knows if you want something off of a mannequin that is behind a curtain in the window, you ASK FOR HELP, for goodness sakes. But no, Miss Experienced Shopper decided to just slip that coat right off of the mannequin all by herself. With the coat halfway off, it got stuck and as I tried to ease the sweater-like fabric of the coat off of the canvas mannequin, the entire mannequin body fell off the stand with a resounding THUD and poor Megan came running. They will never forget me. At this point I would have purchased the coat out of obligation. Fortunately, it was perfect. They agreed to sell me the coat very quickly, probably hoping that I would get the hell out of their store. I will return if they will let me. The owners are so friendly, their lovely daughter entertaining mine as I shopped through the vast selection of luscious clothes, sumptuous purses, stylish shoes & top notch house accoutrement. HORRIBLE Experience DON'T even waste your time! I have consigned at many places over the years and have never had such a hard time OR been ripped off! FIRST- good luck even dropping your items off with the owner, who is the only person that will accept consigned items! Her working hours are horrible unless you want to drop in on a Saturday in which case GOOD LUCK finding parking!!! SECOND- The owner is hardly knowledgable on high-end designer items and seems to price things by guessing. I took in a $598 purse that was sold by Megan for $45!!! I made a whopping $18 on my bag that had NEVER been carried! WHAT A RIP OFF! It could have sat in my closet for that! Hell I would have rather donated it! I will never be consigning here again. Oooo..lala! An organized consignment shop, with a great selection and local feel. It's one of my favorites in Seattle. The other reviewers are right - you won't find a complete steal, but then again you won't find any low quality items either. They also stock some handmade jewelry and new hats which I love. Hours are somewhat limiting on the weekdays- They close at 6 so rarely can I make it in time after lightrailing it back to Columbia City. At least I can look in the display windows and see the newest items until I can pop in on the weekend. As with any consignment store, selection is hit or miss. When I have found items here, I have been very happy. I've also sold my clothes here- a great benefit although I always end up spending more here than I make. As you would guess, Megan is very selective about accepting items. But that benefts everyone involved! read more

I'm the kind of girl who should love consignment stores. Because I'm the kind of girl who loves a good deal. But soon after I wander into a consignment store I'm high-tailing it outta there and swearing them off for good. Promising I'll never pick through piles way too random and way too outdated crap again. Gather is different. The selection is really thoughtful and well edited. All of the pieces were either really good quality or really interesting and unique. Not only did I try several things on (previously unheard of in a consignment shop), but I left with a skirt that I'm in love with. The shop is displayed like a boutique which makes it really easy to see everything. Your eye goes from one great piece to another almost instantly. The jewelry case is like looking in the window of a candy shop. Everything calls out to you. I was also impressed that the inventory was so seasonal. Heavy coats and bulky sweaters are packed away to make room for spring skirts, strappy shoes, light jackets, and colorful scarves. The two people working there were really friendly and not a bit pushy. I was only buying, but I saw one of the staff helping someone who was selling (consigning?) and she was really nice and helpful to her as well. I'm not in the neighborhood very often, but it just may be worth a trip down once in a while to see what's new. read more

Worth a trip to Columbia City! Really can't add more than the previous yelpers. The owners do a fantastic job of editing the items as there were several great pieces in awesome shape. The racks aren't stuffed with discards, as it is so often in consignment shops. I could have easily spent close to an hour in there working my way through the jewelry, scarves, and seasonal items, then making my way to the circular racks. I heart the owners for having a bright pink garden bucket with toys! They even played with her for a few minutes, showing her the xylophone. This bought me time while I was shopping with the little bug- in fact I was ready to leave before she was. This rarely happens in stores and only because hubby and lunch was waiting next door. They mentioned that it is quite commonplace for kiddos to play there while the moms shop. Kudos to a store that is chill enough to provide such a great environment. read more

I absolutely LOVE Gather! This is my favorite consignment store in Seattle. Megan and Dan have an excellent eye for great clothes, remember their customers, and run a very friendly, high-class store. All my favorite pieces in my closet have come from Gather, and I have sold enough of my own good-quality cast-offs to have earned hundreds of dollars' worth of store credit. I love that Gather will offer you either credit or a check. Their consignment rates are in line with others in the area, yet because their standards are so high and their eye for quality so sharp, I make more off my used clothing at Gather than anywhere else. If you treat your clothing well and have good taste, you will get way more bang for your consigned buck at Gather, because all the savvy consignment shoppers know that this is the place go. High-end labels and luxe fabrics that have been well cared for fly off the racks because Gather has so many regular customers (of which I am one!) who peruse for deals regularly. There are discounts every day (check the color of the tag!) Their jewelry selection is just as good as their clothing selection -- I've found some amazing pieces there. This store is well worth the trip to Columbia City, as if Bob's Quality Meats and Columbia City Bakery (on the same block and same side of the street) weren't reason enough to visit CC regularly. This is such a great vintage boutique that my friend and I stumbled upon while we were walking around Columbia City. The store has used vintage and retro styles of apparel and accessories, so each piece is one of a kind. I fell in love with this vintage Kate Spade jacket in the window that had a very Jackie O-esque look, which I love. Unfortunately, I didn't end up getting it because it was way above my price range, but if you're looking for investment pieces then this is a place that you'll want to check out. The collection here is pricey, but you're paying for vintage. Although the place isn't large, the selection is good. There are also fitting rooms, and the sales staff is very helpful. On a Saturday after brunch there was quite a few people browsing inside. It's a cute store. Whenever I'm in the area I'll take a gander here. read more

Great place to consign! I bring a boat load (several blue IKEA bags full, must be on hangars) of clothes, jewelry, bags, hats, shoes, etc. in, they take quite a few items, and I ALWAYS do very welI. Megan and Dan, the owners, are so nice, friendly and personable- and they have a great sense of what will sell. I can always email when I have a question, and I receive an email back within 24 hours. I also enjoy my little trips to Columbia City- a very neat little neighborhood with lots of great restaurants. I almost always get a great parking space right in front of the store, but if there isn't parking here, there is an inexpensive neighborhood lot just up the block. I even shop a little here (which is the exact opposite of SELLING things), but I can't help it- I am always finding some unique hat or pair of earrings that I can't do without. Way over priced! I compared what items I did like to EBay and even with shipping EBay is the better deal if you don't mind not being able to see and touch the item before you buy it. I'm assuming the reason they price so high is to get their consignment cut. So, now I know and I won't have to visit here again. It is super organized and tidy though. read more

This is a mixed review, and I would have given them 5 stars except one unfortunate incident that could have easily been avoided and will prevent me from doing any more business with Gather in the future. The good part: Gather is set up really nicely. They have great taste and bring quality goods into their store for consignment. The owners are very nice individuals and it initially felt good working with them consigning my clothes as well as buying other consigned clothes from there. The bad part: Now I'm sure that this is an atypical situation, but I am pretty livid because I don't feel it was a very ethical decision on the owner's part. The back story is that I brought in a pair of electric blue heels because I hadn't found anything to wear with them for months so had given up trying to find an outfit for the shoes and decided to put them up for consignment. Out of irony, I, of course, find an outfit that would go perfectly soon after. When it was time for me to arrange pickup for the clothes that didn't sell, I called up on Wednesday and told them I was ready to pick them up and arranged to do so later that week. I decided to go down to the shop that day anyway to see the Coach bag I had eyed a week ago. I figured it was going to get snatched up quickly and I wanted to see if I liked it enough to buy it. While I was there I looked around the store and bought some other cute things, but didn't bite on the purse. I was also curious to see if those heels survived. I definitely noticed every pair of shoes on the floor, since I am always on the hunt. I would have seen if my electric blue heels were there because I was also explicitly looking to see if they were (there was a pair of flats in the same shade, but mine were nowhere to be found). Needless to say that when I got the inventory sheet of what was left (that I requested because I wanted to know if they were there) I was really excited to be getting them back and said so out loud to Mark before I left the store. I said thank you and that I would see them on Friday when I was coming back to get the clothes (which were all already off the floor). I unfortunately was not able to make it back on Friday, because life happened, and came back on Saturday instead. When I asked where my shoes were, they told me they had sold. Now, if they were already supposed to have been pulled and I made a point of saying how excited I was to be getting them back, why were they sold? I know that I didn't see them in the store, or anything else I had brought in when I was shopping there on Wednesday, so I can only assume the shopper must have seen them in the pile of goods that were set aside for me near the dressing room. The shop has all of my information on record and they should have called me to see if I was ok with them being sold, because at that point those articles of clothing were rightfully mine again since it was past the arranged dates of consignment. They did apologize when I asked where the heels were, but told me they had still been out on the floor. I don't see how they were, because I had been told when I first called up that everything had been pulled the Sunday prior. Plus I didn't see them in the store when I was shopping and these are not shoes that go unseen. I mean, I signed a contract that had very specified terms about their policy and I feel that this is in violation of what I agreed to. Yes, it is partially my fault for making the decision to put them on consignment, but it just seems unethical the way things went down. Especially since I just had a face-to-face conversation, had explicitly asked to know what I was getting back, and told them how excited I was about the fact that they hadn't sold. And no matter how much I Yelp, I can never get those heels back on my feet where they belong. read more

I was referred here by a friend and had high hopes. I've consigned and sold clothes many times over the years. I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to rejected stuff. It's their business/job and they know what people will pay for and what they won't, fair enough to me. This place was exceptional though. I brought in about 20 items. After spending 10-15 minutes looking through my stuff she calls me to go over the consignment policy. She says, "First, we sell nice things here. Try taking these (referring to the rejects) to Playtos Closet and maybe they can give you $5 a piece, but our customers typically like higher end items. That being said we'll accept these items for consignment (referring to the nine items that subsequently sold)." The items I brought in ranged from Merrill leather boots and designer silk blouses to dresses and jeans from Old Navy and Walmart. Virtually all of the rejects were the Old Navy items. Now ordinarily I wouldn't have thought anything of the items taken vs rejected except this lady had to be super rude for no reason to describe their desired merchandise. Now the irony. This lady was clearly being snooty and isn't as familiar with brands as she wants to brow-beat her customers into thinking she is. One of the items they took for consignment was a dress I purchased from Walmart two years ago for $7 that was subsequently purchased by some naïve hipster for $16 the first week on the rack. I wasn't necessarily opposed to shopping there until I saw the settlement sheet showing how much they mark up the merchandise. How could I not feel preyed upon seeing what they do to other less savvy customers? They do provide good consignment rates (40% cash or 50% store credit), so if you have the time, and patience to shop carefully to avoid being another unsuspecting stooge you could find a quality piece or two. Otherwise, expect to get taken and have them put you down for the privilege. If you're just looking to let someone else sell your used stuff at inflated prices for some hobby money, then this is definitely the place to go. Just be sure to wear a granola hipster disguise like horned rimmed glasses and Danskos to spare yourself a dose of condescension. read more

Consign here with extreme caution. Well, finally a place has pissed me off enough to inspire my first yelp review ever! I brought in my items to consign at the beginning of June. The woman spent about 20 minutes with my items, eventually accepting 9 items--assortment of dresses, shirts, jumper, pants--and rejecting several others. So far, so good. After a few weeks, I checked in to see if any of my items had sold. I was told simply that none had sold yet. Over the next month, I checked in a few more times--still nothing had sold. I started to find this a bit strange, especially because I never saw any of my items on the floor. Yesterday, I stopped back in to check because I knew my items had already been there for awhile and I didn't want them to get removed for not selling. After being told for the 3rd or 4th time that I hadn't sold any items, I questioned directly why I had never seen my items on the floor. ONLY then did the salesperson check and let me know that ALL of my items were determined to be damaged/flawed in some way or another after they were accepted for sale and so they were disposed of. How and why were ALL NINE of my items determined to be damaged after being accepted? I think this is an incredibly shady business model. Either they need to beef up their acceptance/review process OR perhaps spend a quick minute of their time to call and inform the consigner that their items were found to be damaged and need to be picked up in a day/week/etc. YES, this was in my contract, but it was not mentioned to me. I would not have batted an eye if one or two of my items were rejected after-the-fact, but I can't wrap my head around the fact that all nine were. I feel totally cheated (a few of the items were brand new and never worn) and thought that other people should be aware of this possibility before consigning. read more

I was just in this store about 30 minutes ago. I was browsing with time in between seeing friends. The salesperson completely ignored me the entire time I was in the store. I only noticed this because there were three other people in the store - specifically 3 white women - who the salesperson went out of her way to ask if there was something specific they were shopping for and if she could hold their bags. The salesperson didn't approach me at all, not even to say hello or to ask if I was shopping for something. She did however make it her priority to put clothes away near me. As a mixed race black woman it made me question if the salesperson was ignoring based on how I look. As a person of color this is always in the back of your mind. And when it is so explicit (in terms of not even being acknowledged) there has to be some truth in the experience. Needless to say i will never come back to that store again. I'll be moving back to Seattle at the end of May and will be making Columbia city my home but won't be giving my money to Gather. Lastly, I find it ironic that there is a sign in the window of the store that states all people should be treated equally. Perhaps the salesperson needs support around this. read more

I have made several trips to gather now and always have fun shuffling through all the different styles they have there. All the items they sell are in good quality and clean. The only issue I have with this place are their prices. Some of the clothing is more expensive there then if you just went out and bought it brand new. So beware of the prices and make sure it's worth it. read more

I love coming into Gather - the owners have an eye for great stuff, and there are some great treasures to be had at awesome prices. Funky shoes, lovely bags, scarves and unique accessories really make this place stand out, as do the home decor items and antique jewelry. I've purchased a Coach bag, a couture dress and spotted a ring from Tiffany's - lovely items and I'm always surprised at what one can find. The owners, Dan and Megan, are super friendly and the environment is casual - feel free to bring your kids. I've brought in a couple of items and love that they give you store credit at 50% or the 40% cash option. Just another great neighborhood place. read more

The clothing and accessories at Gather are all very nice quality and priced very reasonably. They provide terrific service too!

This consignment and vintage store is the cream of the crop -- the merchandise (jewelry, clothing, home accessories) is top rate, the prices are reasonable, the owners are honest (ex: does this blouse look too big? Answer: "Yes, we can do better"). Consignment or not, the shop a treat for the eyes and for the pocketbook. Columbia City is all the better because of this shop's presence. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. It's that rare consignment store where you can usually walk in vaguely thinking "I could use a short-sleeved white blouse just now" and walk out with something that fits, is stylish, and that you can afford. Megan and Dan do a terrific job of choosing their inventory to that it doesn't take a half-hour of rummaging to find something you'd like to try on. I should also mention that the accessories, especially jewelry, are unusually stylish and well-priced. Megan and Dan, I hope you stay there for another 5 million years (for selfish reasons only). Megan is an absolutely wonderful woman and is good at what she does. She has been in the business for a long time and it shows. I've been shopping here since their opening and have bought and sold many, many items and consistently had great customer service. I'm so grateful for this sweet store in our Columbia City! read more
