Ordered a cup of coffee & water, unfortunately the coffee cup was dirty and so was my utensils. They immediately rectified which I appreciated. Ordered the chicken and waffles. Waffles was over cooked and tough, the chicken thigh was moist and good. It came with a country gravy that I didn't really care for although I love country gravy typically. It tasted just bland. This is a cute little retro diner in Oak Lawn! The interior is adorable and even has a bar. They have lots of breakfast and dinner options on the menu, many of which are made with farm to table ingredients. Our food was tasty and had generous portion sizes. I removed a star though because the service was very slow. We sat for 20 minutes then had to go ask for a server to come take our order. I would give it another chance though! read more

Just good home cooking the food is good not great not bad, for a diner it is pretty expensive, you're looking in the $10-$15 range. We had the chicken fried chicken which was pretty flat and hammered, a little dry the gravy was good. The green beans while I'm sure they were fresh seemed really waxy. If I could leave a 0 -star I would. Yesterday I experienced racism that made me sick to my stomach here at Luckys Cafe! I'm standing in line behind a white man and the greeter comes to him and assist him with seating by asking him if he would like a both or table and taking him to be seated along with menu and utensils, as I'm standing at the front area he looks back at me and says " just have a seat anywhere" no greeting, no care like the man in front of me. So I seat myself. Another waiter brings me a menu and I'm waiting for my order to be taken. So one waiter comes and brings me water and throws my straw at me. I let it slide and keep looking over the menu. Well once the waiter approaches me and ask if I'm ready to order. I was able to partially state my order as the waiter quickly snatched the menu and walked off. I called out excuse me, Excuse me as I was not done completing my order. The waiter ignored me and continued to walk off. I tried getting his attention twice and was completely ignored. Eventually I had no other choice but to get up and walk out. I will never ever visit Lucky Cafe again. It's 2023 and people always like to say that racism doesn't exist, this was a clear example of pure racism and it needs to stop. I forgot to mention I was the ONLY black person in the restaurant. I'm not someone whom gets easily uncomfortable because I know I'm a true professional, but the mistreatment I received yesterday as astounding. This business needs to train its employees, and remove the bad apples from the bunch. read more

This is such a fun spot with an old time diner feel. They serve breakfast all day which is a win, and they have excellent drink specials during the week! Pretty awesome spot we stumbled across. We had gone to Dallas one Saturday morning, and decided since we were in the area, we might as well stop off at a spot we've never been. Lucky's ended up being the place. We came in and there was bit of a wait. Tried to sit at the bar, but it was full, so we just waited for a table. It was only like a 15 minute wait, so that was nice. Got seated at a big booth. It was just my girlfriend and me, but cool we were able to sit down at a spot... Even if it was bigger than we needed. Fast service is what we were greated with when we sat down. Our waiter brought us our delicious bread and some plates. My girlfriend's plate was dirty, but he quickly noticed and brought a new one. As for food, I got my normal "Kacey Breakfast"... Oh they call that The All American. Eggs, bacon, white bread toast, and potatoes... But you can do it any of the ways they have listed (different meats, breads, etc). When the food was brought to me, the waiter came over to look at it and make sure it was correct. The food was awesome and just what you want, especially after having a long Friday night. I didn't finish all of my food there, but I boxed up the rest and brought it home. It all heated up nicely. I love this place so much! It's so alive! There a lot of pretty decorations along the walls and a full bar! I've never seen a brunch area with a full bar, and I like my alcohol, so that was exciting for me. The servers are very nice and so attentive! That's quality service, especially since it was so busy. Even though it's so busy, the place is pretty spacious so we didn't have any trouble getting a table. They have booths and regular tables, so you can pick to your butt's content! I got the bird Benedict, which was deliciousssssss. I usually think the Benedict is quite bland, but this one wasn't at all! I didn't even have to add any hot sauce. And their side of potatoes was oh my god so good. Super crunchy but soft on the inside. My friend got the pot roast hash, which I thought was okay. It might be because I ate the bird Benedict first so everything else was just mediocre compared to that haha. Lucky's has lost it's vibe... Don't get me wrong, I like Lucky's and always have, but something is amiss. The food is still good, but the new menu takes some getting used to. The farm to table concept, albeit new to Lucky's is certainly not new to the industry. The look is the same as it has been for years. A few of the people are the same, but the ones you would remember are probably gone. I am not on the "in" enough to know what all has changed or why it changed but it smells to me like big business has taken over the charm and vibe of what was once this little jewel of a neighborhood place. Just ordered Luckys breakfast for delivery...I was thoroughly disappointed with the taste of the food. I ordered bacon omelette with biscuit and a basic breakfast with grits and toast. The grits tasted like someone put a cigarette out in them and the toast was so burnt it was basically inedible. The omelette and scrambled eggs were over cooked and had no flavor. The biscuit was dry, hard and tasteless. All in all I don't recommend and won't be ordering again. read more

My wife and I have had breakfast here twice now. The first time I had the waffles and chicken and it was so so. Not having a great experience we again tried and I went with my go to huevos rancheros and was very disappointed. The country potatoes were horrible and taste like chunks of grease. The wait staff seems to be uninterested in the customers. I guess being an uptown place makes it trendy but you still have to deliver with the food. I love love love this place. This is one of the first establishments that made me feel welcome when I first moved to Dallas. Located off Oak Lawn, this is a familiar spot for the upper crust (Highland Park) and the lower crust (me) to gather for brunch. Their biscuits and honey actually made me cry out at the table. It was embarrassing but luckily, the locals knew I was a newbie and experienced my first "biscuitgasm" and they didn't judge me. To be honest, I've never had anything but their 14-hour breakfast but I'm sure their entire menu is good based from the great encounters I've had for brunch. Had a great experience here today. We walked in to a waiting area that was packed with awaiting patrons and we wondered if it'd be a good idea to venture elsewhere. Very unlucky at Lucky's this morning. Food was cold and had obviously sat for a while before being run. This is based off of the cold onion rings and congealed gravy on the fried chicken. Bad. The deviled eggs were the worst I've ever had. No exaggeration. You should consider taking them off of your menu. There's just no reason to serve that to people. Barely any filling and was covered in horrible sweet relish to try and make up for the major lack of yolk mix. Overall, not edible. Should have sent them back. Go ahead and google "deviled eggs" and go to images. You'll see real deviled eggs. Chicken breast sandwich was a quarter inch (maybe) pounded chicken breast. No joke - see pic. Went here for the first time this weekend on a date and had a very terrible service experience. Our waiter kept making faces and rude comments towards my date whenever she mentioned she did not eat meat. He kept heckling her despite her visible irritation. The worst and most dangerous part, is that she ordered tofu bacon, and when it came we noticed it looked very real. We asked if we were sure that it wasn't meat because it tasted exactly like turkey bacon. He assured us it was not without checking with the cooks or asking anyone. When we got the receipt after he made some other rude joke, the receipt showed that it was turkey bacon. This is super dangerous for people with food allergies / dietary restrictions! I understand it may not be directly his fault, but his attitude towards her was very demeaning and makes me wonder if it was purposeful on his part. What is the point of having vegetarian options if asking for them gets you that kind of attitude and you have to risk accidentally eating meat? This is a well-deserved update. We visited again this past Saturday - walking in in the midst of a mad brunch rush at about 11:30. The wait was 20 minutes - which ended up being closer to 30-35 - but I didn't mind. We'd gotten stellar parking karma right out front, kid was in a good mood, and the bar will serve you while you wait to be seated - so an Irish coffee kept me warm and content. The gentleman who hustles people in and to their tables is a treat. He's got an entertaining character and kind demeanor and honestly makes you want to just chat and get to know him - a conversation that would be punctuated by sudden cattle-calls of patrons to open tables. Half the time, those on the list have wedged into a bar seat and gone ahead and ordered a meal - Do him a favor folks, and let him know so he doesn't have to scream your name and hunt you down just to move on. I also observed him very sweetly grab a chair and assist a blind woman to her seat so she didn't have to stand, like most of us, the entire time we waited. It was a very kind gesture which inspired kindness in me that day, so I applaud him for it. The food this time: Huge improvement. I had the Southwest Omelette - which includes cheddar and is smothered with black beans, with the potatoes again on the side. The wait this time for the food, despite the mad brunch rush, was completely reasonable. My server, she was sweet as pie and even guarded the bathroom door when my five year old visited the lu, which is way above and beyond. My daughter's pancakes were perfection - hot and fluffy and soft and sweet. And the mimosa was fantastic. the first visit I had the blood orange. This time I had a classic and it was quite yum. So - sweet redemption. I'm glad I gave Lucky's another chance, and I'm glad they came through. Come in with patience, be prepared to stand and wait, and be okay with that. If you're a fan of Tex-Mex style breakfasts and prefer savory to sweet, get the Southwest Omelette instead of the Huevos Rancheros and you're good to go. Next time, I'll probably request the potatoes be on the crisp side - but with special requests, I'll be keeping in mind that I'm not the only guest nor the most important and that poor kitchen is slammed. read more

Once again we found a genuine gem! Sunday around noon, Family of four, hungry as anyone can be, everywhere around had over an hour wait so we found Luckys. Their all day breakfast was excellent and our server James was hands down amazing despite it being very busy. read more

First time we went in was for lunch. We split a grilled cheese and each got a cup of tomato basil soup. The grilled cheese lived up to its description on the menu. Yeah it was sleezy and cheesy filled with onions, bacon, tomatoes, and, green chile's. We both liked it. The tomato basil was unlike any I've had. It was chunky and thick, but lacked good flavor. Kinda felt like they dumped some tomatoes in a blender, punched chop, then served as soup. Didn't do it for us. We went back for breakfast. Jeezus! JFC! This was hands down without a doubt the worst breakfast I have had in Dallas. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and, I get my Irish up when places screw it up. I asked the waiter if they had sausage gravy. He looked at me, puzzled, and said: "We have gravy that has pepper in it". WTF? No, they don't have sausage gravy. I got wheat toast instead of biscuit and gravy. The toast was hard and dry and unbuttered. The bacon was so salty I felt my urethra starting to dry out. The breakfast came with "Country Potatoes". WOW. WTF?. I have never experienced anything like that. I don't really know WTF was going on with those potatoes. Sheesh!I told my waiter that I was unhappy with my food and he blew me off with a Ya, Ya, Ya. Mr Ya Ya got little tip. Overall the breakfast was a $28 disastrous disappointment. Great diner find on Oaklawn! We needed a place to eat before the state fair and had to satisfy a group wanting diner food but also healthy options. That isn't always easy to achieve but we won the jackpot at Lucky's! First of all diner food to me is defined by its coffee. Yes I know this is now a farm to table restaurant and not a normal diner but coffee is an important part of the experience. It was great. I don't know why but coffee in the white ceramic cups you always see at diners always tastes better. Now the food was even better. I had the veggie benny. I consider myself an expert eggs benedict taster. This was such an improvement on the classic. The spinach in place of canadian bacon, a warm fall apart biscuit and perfect eggs and hollaindaise sauce made for the perfect breakfast. I didn't feel overly stuffed and was ready to take on the day. The service was also spectacular. My coffee cup never went empty and my water was always full. Lucky's is the place on Oaklawn to stop into for breakfast! read more
