The food here is tasty, reasonably priced, and for Commerce the service is very good. The meatballs are delicious! Two stars taken off because of some food service issues that can be easily fixed. The few times I have been there I've tried to sit and visit with friends for a little bit after my meal, and several staff members would come up to me every two minutes ask if we needed anything. I know they were just trying to give good service but it was really irritating. Similarly, when we were walking out, we were told "thanks, have a nice day" about a dozen times. Again, a good try at customer service, but annoyingly over attentive. My other issue with this place is that they don't use jugs to refill water. when I went with a friend, people (several different waiters and bussers) kept coming up and asking us if we wanted refills, and they would remove our glasses for the table take them into the back in return them full-- after a couple of refills I realized that they weren't keeping track of which glass was which, and my dining partner and I had been drinking from each other's glasses. Very gross and unsanitary. This is just not the type of thing I would expect from a full service restaurant. As I said, the food is great, and this restaurant is a wonderful addition to our town. We have been here many times, mostly for lunch. We have always had excellent service, along with a delicious meal. I've only rated this restaurant three stars because of our recent visit. We were there for dinner, the restaurant was not busy, but we were passed from one server to another. This did not bother us as we understand shift changes and whatnot. While placing the order with the original server, my husband changed his mind and asked to remove the salad from his order. Since they do not have a senior menu, I have always been able to order from the kids menu, which my friend and I both did. My husband was served his salad even tho it was removed from the original order. When our meal was served my friend and I both had a larger portion than what we were used to. We figured this was due to the abnormally longer wait time. Both my husband and my friends meal was very good. I had ordered the fettuccine Alfredo; the sauce had an off flavor, and was extremely thin. My husband tried it and said it was okay, it probably needed more cheese. When we received our ticket for the meal we were all charged full price. Our server seemed a little agitated that we had mentioned that this was not what we had originally ordered. He said he would take care of it but the computers were down. It took quite a while for our ticket to be changed. In the end we were still overcharged. Two days later I was going to warm up the leftovers that I had brought home. My fettuccine Alfredo was hard as a brick and was fused to the Styrofoam box that it was in. This tells me that something was wrong with the sauce as I have never experienced something like this before. I am hoping that this was just an off night and not how the restaurant is run at this time. If service is much better on our next visit I will come back and rate this restaurant much higher. read more

I ordered the fettuccini with alfredo with shrimp. I received one shrimp and asked the waitress about it. She explained that there were to shrimp and the other was below the current visible one. It was also explained to me that I was suppose to cut it up and share it throughout my plate of pasta.. this normally would not be a problem if there was more than one shrimp. Absolute worst Italian restaurant I have ever been too. Expect food poisoning as well if you eat here. read more

This was my 2nd time checking out Luigi's. My first experience was with a cheesecake and the taste was pleasantly good compared to my expectations. This 2nd and last time I attended I ordered the chicken tanzorini. Out the gate I was disappointed with the customer service because the hostesses were gossiping an extra 2 minutes after I arrived and waited to be seated. My waitress was a sweet girl but the food was disappointing. At first bite it seemed promising but after the next bites I realized the chicken was horrible, chewy and without flavor. Also, the sauce for the dish was extremely over salted and every bite required about 3 sips of water. I probably won't be returning to Luigis. read more

This Cafe opened a few months ago and has been a welcome addition in a small town with not enough nice choices for dining out. I have been 3 times and the food has been wonderful every time. The service has, however, been lacking in a small but significant way each time. Most recently my wife, a friend , and I went for a meal and, in addition, I ordered a vodka and tonic. I took a sip and knew something wasn't right. I suspected something other than tonic had been used as a mixer. It is a common mistake particularly amongst less experienced staff. I told the waitress and she took it back. I watched for a minute out of the corner of my eye as the bartender became angry and refused to touch the glass as the waitress tried to give it to her. In a minute the waitress brought the same drink back and told me the bartender said there was nothing wrong with it. When I insisted she said she would ask the manager. After a few more minutes the manager brought me the same drink back (after another heated exchange with the bartender that I could hear) and told me he checked the tonic and it worked and my drink was fine. I didn't come to have an argument so I told them to just take it back and take it off my bill which they did. I have been drinking tonic in drinks for more than 30 years. I know what it tastes like and something was wrong with this drink. Retrospectively I think it is possible it was a gin and tonic and not vodka. I just know it didn't taste right. Under no circumstance should the waitress, the bartender, and especially the manager have brought me the drink back and told me I was wrong. The bartender was particularly problematic as this should have been such a routine matter and certainly shouldn't have created arguments and angry discussions I could hear. Lastly let me say the waitress did the best she could under the circumstances. She does need some additional training in handling problems and, from what I saw that day, there is nobody there to give it to her. I paid our check and left the waitress a 40% tip so she would know I appreciated her service and understood the dynamics of the problem. read more

Disappointing! I've tried Luigi's twice because there are not many choices in Commerce and I wanted this place to be good. The food is below average and overpriced. We asked for Italian dressing on our salads and were told they only have ranch, thousand island, and a house vinaigrette. We went with the vinaigrette and it had the consistentcy and taste of ketchup with maybe some raspberry flavor added. It was disgusting. The garlic knots are ok, but overall Luigi's needs to improve their food big time. I tried the spaghetti which was very bland and a chicken penne which was ok. My mom got lasagna which was swimming in grease. If you want some decent Italian food in Commerce you'll have to go to Pizza Hut. read more

Came here because it was the closest restaurant. Glad we did the food was very good served with lovely tasty Italian bread olive olive oil and roasted garlic. The service was fas. The prices were reasonable. The server was friendly. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the chicken piccata was not as hot as i like, however the server did offer to remedy that. read more

The service was terrible my meal was messed up twice then the manager took my dish and started to get it after he brought me a new dish which was lukewarm. On top of this I had to pay for my messed up meal and was charged incorrectly. I went online and complained and the owner called me and said a myriad of excuses and didn't take ownership. The visit here was very nice. The food was really good. I thought b/c it was across the street from a College campus the food would have been mediocre but it was far from it. The food is good. Where do I begin, dirty, dirty, dirty! I had sat down for a company meal and we had a view into the kitchen and I notice a member of the staff passing out food to the cooks in the kitchen. I watched the cook not once, not twice, but five times pick food with his fingers and put the food and his fingers into his mouth and then go back to making someone's food. We were disgusted by we saw and could not proceed to eat here. I asked the server for our check for the drinks and explained to her what we witnessed. She ask if I would like to speak to the manager and proceed to point at the manager out on the floor. He was the one passing the food out and eating in the back with the cooks. I said no thanks and we walked out, the manager chased us out to the car and tried justifying the situation and suggested we were over reacting. Very limited choices in a small town, but I highly suggest looking for a place other then here. read more

Outstanding place! They had several great dinner specials and the stuffed tilapia was one of the best meals I have ever had. It came with angel hair pasta mixed with sautéed vegetables. Incredible flavor (that could have been my main dish it was so tasty). The sauce on the tilapia was the exact amount of flavor, not overwhelming. Freshly baked bread and a house salad dressing really set the meal off. This is not a pizza joint. Nice quiet atmosphere for dinner. Played great music too. read more

My daughter and I went to Luigi's. She had the lasagna and I had the spaghetti and meatballs. This site rates the meals $$ but almost everything on the menu is 9.95 or less? Seven for lunch specials. Should be $ instead. Anyway, the atmosphere is really casual. It is more like a high end cafe than a formal restaurant. Everything you would expect from an Italian Cafe. Fresh baked bread, wine, perfectly cooked pasta. The plates were extremely hot when they got to the table. When a place serves items with cheese, the hotter the better. There were several events happening on campus, and I expected to wait for a table. Parking lot looked full, but the restaurant had open tables and no wait. Almost half the tables were open? Not sure who the cars belonged to, staff maybe? Or maybe everyone drove there separately. The servers kept the bread basket full and the glasses topped off. I really enjoyed it. read more

While visiting my folks in Commerce, they suggested Luigi's. Having grown up in Commerce, I didn't expect much. I honestly was blown away by this place! First, the building is like any nice established restaurant you would find in Dallas. Second, the staff is very professional and, again, what you would expect in a large city. The food was excellent! I had the angel hair pasta and it was very good! This is going to be my first stop for a meal when visiting my family again in Commerce. I have only been here once, which was back in January of this year. However, I had a great experience, especially because our waiter was so friendly! I had the eggplant parmigiana, which was delicious. However, my friend tried it and did not like it. Goes to show how taste buds and preferences differ!
