It was described as a "less sweet" coffee, so I was surprised by the first sip. It was sweet--I thought TOO sweet. But as I settled in to sips 3 and 4, it didn't seem quite so sugary. I arrived at Wesley Doughnuts at 8:30 a.m. to see a fairly sparse donut case. The fellow working the counter wasn't friendly, but wasn't exactly grouchy... just kind of there. I ordered an old fashioned glazed cake donut, a chocolate eclair with cream filling, and a vanilla frosted sprinkle donut for my son. I ate the old fashioned first and the taste immediately threw me off, as it was fried in old oil, or something had been fried in the oil that gave off a funky taste. The donut was passable, a bit on the dry side and not as good as the other old fashioned donuts I've tried in Greenville. The chocolate filled eclair was better, notably because it had a delightfully crisp crust on the bottom. However, it still had the funky oil taste, but was much better than the old fashioned. My son loved his frosted sprinkle donut as dessert, so he was happy. I had a tiny bite of it and was put off by the same weird old oil taste, though. I was hoping for a great local gem, but that was not the case with this visit. Hopefully I just caught them on a bad day. If nothing else, their donuts are very cheap. I'll likely give them a shot again on the chance they can turn things around.
