Traveling through the state, we are staying in North Platte, NE. After a long day in the car and getting checked into the hotel, we were starving. The first place we stopped for dinner scared me so we left and ended up at Luigi's. Thank goodness we didn't stick with the original option because Luigi's was perfect for dinner. Luigi's is a hometown, no frills, Italian restaurant. What it lacks in ambiance is more than makes up for with quality and delicious food. The wife and I both ordered entrees that came with a starter of the fluffier, softest, yeast type rolls about the size of a softball. Served warm which was a bonus. Each entree also came with a nice sized garden salad with fresh tomato chunks and thinly sliced red onion. She opted for the homemade Italian dressing and I went with the scratch made Ranch. Excellent. The wife ordered the baked manicotti that was covered in a delicious marinara sauce and plenty of melted mozzarella. She loved it. The scrimppy bite she gave me was good. I opted for the spaghetti carbonara. It was different than any other carbonara I have ever had. This one came with standard hunks of ham, but also tomatoes and mushrooms. It was also in a tomato alfredo type sauce. While not your standard carbonara, it was still really good. I just wished I had left the mushrooms off as I despise mushrooms. Overall, it was very good. While we may never get to North Platte again, if we do, Luigi's will be the spot we dine at. Bonus: the butter for the rolls was at room temperature which I like. I hate it when the butter us hard as a rock and tears the roll. read more

This is really a zero star review. Traveling through North Platte and seeing that the food options are limited to fast food chains and mediocre dine-in options, Luigi's seemed the most promising. We arrived at about 7 pm on a Saturday evening during the height of a weekend dinner rush. The restaurant was packed which we normally take as a good sign. We were seated promptly by the hostess (during COVID-19) and the tables were so close to each other your chair back would touch the adjacent tables chair back when you try to sit down. There must have been about 50-60 customers and a front of house staff of about 10-12, not a single person of whom was wearing a mask. This seems to be typical of Nebraska in our experience so far. Most people we have encountered seem to have little regard for CDC masking guidelines. We were seated for more than 15 minutes during which we could hear an elderly couple next to us that were done eating complaining about how long it was taking to get their check. Right after they got up and left, a new party was seated at the table without the table even being wiped down. The same thing happened at another table nearby and again the table wasn't wiped down. We could also hear another party behind us complaining about the wait to be served. The last straw was when waitresses went to both of the recently turned tables and began taking their order. I stood up and informed the waitress the table they were serving had just sat and we had been waiting for more than 15 minutes without anyone coming to our table. She completely ignored me. We stood up to leave and headed for the exit. I walked back in to see if there was a manager but it seemed the entire staff consisted of bussers, waitresses and kitchen staff. I was able to ask the waitress who ignored my previous question again why she helped a table that just seated before helping other tables who were waiting for 20 minutes. The waitress snapped at me and said "it's not my job to figure out who was seated first." And she turned to a group of employees who were just milling about and made a remark about me Or what I just said that made them all laugh as they looked in my direction. Yes, silly me for wanting to eat at their restaurant I suppose. We understand that Saturday nights are busy most places and extended waits are sometimes the norm. It stretches credulity as a legitimate establishment though when you can't manage the simple task of seating and serving customers in the order of their arrival. When you allow your waitstaff to be belligerent with customers however, that type of permissibility comes only from the management. Eat here at your own risk. You might have a good experience or you might just have the most insulting restaurant experience in 50 years. Good luck! read more

Myself and RW here today for lunch. I had a pasta lunch of various parts. Kind of a sampling type thing. Was REALLY good. RW had lasagna. It appeared just ok. I have been here several times in past and that's what I remembered. Ok but not more. I would sure return for what I had. read more

So here we are, driving across country and staying in the middle of nowhere'ville hotels. Due to the recent pandemic all that was available is takeout. So we hopped onto grubhub or doordash [couldn't remember which] and I wanted italian that night. Now mind you.. This is not the kind of town that screams ethnic anything.. and I am Italian.. and cook all the time so you know the deck was stacked against them before we even got dinner. We stopped here for a dine-in meal on our way home from Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. We chose Luigi's based on the reviews of others and we were not disappointed! Fast, friendly service. Tasty bread and salad served prior to our meal. Our food came out steaming hot. My husband and I and both of our kids were very pleased with our meals. I was excited to see gnocchi in pesto cream sauce as one of the specials! It was scrumptious! One thing to note: the restaurant did not seem to be implementing any COVID measures. None of the staff was wearing masks. Parties were not social distanced. They were accommodating, however, when we asked to be seated at a different table that was farther away from others. We were in town for some business, and my friend had some dietary restrictions. We went to Luigi's, a cute little place (used to be a Dairy Queen, and they've done nicely to redecorate within that context). The service was very genuine and personable. Bread was doughy and warm. Our entrees were satisfying. My friend found a dish that was tasty, while being agreeable with her current sensitive stomach, My marinara was hearty, and slightly sweet, and the pasta was not overcooked. The best part was they had creme brulee for dessert. Hard to find this on a menu where it's not disappointing, but the custard was creamy and delicious, with the crackly burnt sugar on top that you want. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel where I was staying in town. The recommended entree was Chicken Alfredo. I love chicken Alfredo so I thought this would be perfect. Boy was I wrong. As you can see from the picture, the entree was basically egg noodles in a runny sauce that can only be described chicken broth and milk mixed together. The chicken was rubbery and tasted like it was boiled. This dish was about as bland as it gets. Had I not got my order to go, I would have returned it to the kitchen, which I never do. After a long day of driving, my family was looking forward to some pizza. Yelp had good reviews for Luigi's, so why not try it. Looking at the menu, the meat lover's pizza piqued our curiosity, but who pits hamburger on a pizza (gross). I ordered the meat lover's pizza without hamburger, which they said they could do. I also asked for less cheese (they advertise it with extra cheese). We went for the delivery option. What arrived was a hamburger pizza with extra cheese. It was as gross as we imagined it. I called to get that part of the order refunded. They refused, saying they would only send out a replacement pizza. No thanks the fundamentals of the pizza were nasty as well. At least it was cheap. I hope this helps someone avoid this mistake. read more

This was a very disappointing experience. We were traveling and the reviews led us to believe that this would be a good spot to order dinner for take out. I ordered shrimp with risotto & Spouse ordered the everything Spaghetti. I specifically ordered my dish without broccoli. We also ordered cheese garlic bread. Spouse said is spaghetti was all right, but my risotto left a great deal to be desired. The risotto had absolutely no flavor and of course they left in the broccoli. The garlic bread was incredibly salty. I was only going to award two stars but Spouse had no issues with the spaghetti so in fairness I added back a star. read more

Looking for a hot dine in dinner while driving through N. Platte. I read another review that gave it high praises & a very lengthy review. So our party of four decided to check it out. Sooo glad we did!!It's a very clean & cozy restaurant with plenty of seating & a very big menu. Our waitress name was "Jessica" She was so polite & had a very nice sense of humor! We are on the road and trying local places. Sometimes we don't always like it... But this is not the case!! Greeted right away! And fast friendly service! The salad is fresh and amazing! The bread is home made and oooooo sooooo dangerous for a carb lover! I ordered the shrimp scampi My hubby ordered the house lasagna And my kids the Alfredo! Every dish was hot and so good! What a surprise! Luigi's is fresh, authentic Italian that pleases the palate and is easy on the wallet. Now the building wouldn't really catch your attention, but stop in. The bus and waiter staff are friendly and helpful. Meals are served with a loaf of fresh baked bread, warm and soft and perfect. Ask for the special olive oil/garlic/balsamic dipping oil, sprinkle some parm in and there is an appetizer right there! Entrees are numerous - prices are so reasonable but the servings are robust. Had baked lasagna, and they got it right. Was working so couldn't enjoy wine but they have a modest selection of good wine - a bottle of Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon is $20 something! Desert choices are classic Italian, fresh and delicious (if you even really have space left in your tummy to enjoy it). I suppose only knock might be the dinner salad was a bit generic with iceberg lettuce but it was fresh. Considering it came with the $11.39 lasagna, no one should complain. The chicken was quite good and had not been frozen (yes, it makes a difference). Service was efficient friendly and prompt. The one concern I had was that clearly this town has sipped the Trump koolaid. With COVID surging everywhere including Nebraska, nobody had a mask on. Wow! My dad has been raving about this Italian place in North Platte for years. Last night Luigi's was THE destination, and it didn't disappoint. The service was just that. Our needs were taken care of and the speed was acceptable. Now for the food. First a fresh salad. Well done. Just a basic side salad, but it was tasty and simple-a little tomato and red onion on top of a romaine mixture. The entrees were filling. Dad's favorite lasagna stuffed him. It was piping hot out of the oven and held its temperature well. Great portions. My Chef's Special was Chicken, Spinach, and Mushrooms on a bed of spaghetti top with a white wine Alfredo sauce. It too was hot and portioned well. It was well balanced in flavor. The rolls served were decadent- hot, fluffy and sweet. AND they kept coming. Finally the cannolis were incredible. You saw the picture of mine. Half of dad's came home with us and surely he will enjoy it soon. Will definitely visit again and try the Tour of Italy.
