Next we tried the Fugazza pizza which was so flavorful and delicious. I am not a huge onion fan, but I loved this pizza. There are so many flavors in it. Our next pizza was the deluxe pizza which had everything on it practically. The meatballs on it were unbelievable. They were huge and so good. Overall this pizza was delicious. And for the second year, we made sure to dine at La Pergola, including one night eating in and another ordering takeout. The service continues to be lovely. I always enjoy chatting with the owner, a fellow compatriot, which adds a warm personal touch to the experience. This time, however, the food did not quite live up to our memory of last year. It wasn't bad, just not particularly flavorful or memorable. The biggest disappointment for me was the fugazzeta pizza, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite styles of pizza. The onions were cut too thick and not cooked enough, and the cheese lacked that glorious overflowing generosity that fugazzeta lovers dream about. On another visit we ordered the grilled brochettes, which unfortunately came well done instead of the medium I had requested and could have used more seasoning. The meat ravioli were decent, though the pasta itself felt a bit thick and chewy. That said, the service remained excellent, both dining in and during our takeout order, which is always appreciated. I truly hope they regroup and that next year brings a stronger culinary showing. Running a restaurant is not easy, and places like this deserve a little patience. Besides, I'm not giving up. After all, they are currently my only lifeline to a proper fugazzeta in town.
