I received a box of caramels today from a friend, 1st of all the box & ribbon are beautiful, the chocolate is rich & amazing added with the caramel it's heavenly!! I've always enjoyed chocolate & caramel but this is a whole different level, i've never heard of this place in Ryan Ranch, i've got to share these with family & friends to get the word out!!

Finally got to try Lula's Chocolates. Bought my mom a box of truffles and the buttercream box for myself. Creamy, high quality, and amazing. The lady working at the shop was so sweet as well. Next time I am back in Northern California, I'll definitely pay another visit to Lula's! The shop was very clean and provided a wide range of selection, but the buttercream chocolates have definitely blown me away! A true gem in Carmel-by-the-Sea!

An unusually warm winter day in the Bay Area called for a day trip to Carmel. Perusing the streets of Carmel is always a treat. Every time I visit, which is about once a year, I'm always filled with excitement as if it's the first time. I love visiting new places and after visiting a toy store, walking back to the car took me to Lulu's Chocolates, and oh so glad I stumbled upon it. COVID guidance was in place and there's a sign before you enter the quaint chocolatier. I believe they only allowed one person at the time, lucky for me, I was the only one at that time. I felt I could check out the place without feeling hurried. I am intentionally supporting local small businesses especially during a pandemic. Lovely story with a nice associate. Score! The store was laid out beautifully and everything looked delicious: from their infamous caramel selection to Monterey milk chocolate toffee, I was in chocolate heaven. Now I regret not getting the hot chocolate, maybe next time. They also had their selection of Valentine's Day chocolates out. As a mug collector of notable places I visit, I was able to snag a beautiful chocolate colored mug from Lulu's with their logo. The pricing was reasonable so I didn't hesitate. (Other places charge so much for mugs/merch!) I can't wait for another warm day to visit Carmel, or perhaps even on a cold day - because I'll be back for more chocolates at Lulu's for sure.

    California Toffee and Assorted Chocolates....Heavenly!!

I meant to go to the other store in Monterey, but I ended up here in the Ryan Ranch area... Definitely worth the trip! Love Lula's!!! They have so many great varieties and they are smooth and decadent! Each of the assorted chocolates are made with high quality ingredients and their packaging makes the final touch look classy. This location is smaller compared to the the other ones in Carmel and Monterey, however, staff was nice and helpful.

It's a small shop, and since I wasn't sure yet if I wanted a pastry, I ordered a coffee first while my husband looked at the case. One of the women behind the counter told me, "Usually you order pastries first and then we get the coffee at the end." The way it was said immediately made me feel uncomfortable, like I was somehow doing something wrong. I apologized and explained we weren't from here and I wasn't even sure yet if I wanted anything else. Their tone changed after that and became much friendlier, which honestly made the interaction feel even more awkward. My husband ended up ordering pastries, including a chocolate croissant for me, and both the latte and croissant were good. Sometimes the experience matters just as much as the food. It's hard to fully enjoy a place when your first impression made you feel unwelcome. I truly wanted to love this spot because it came so highly recommended as she visited it daily, but I left feeling more embarrassed than excited to return.

Some people (like me) were given a buzzer thing that was supposed to let you know when your ice cream was ready to pick up at a separate counter. Some people where just asked their names and their names were called when their order was ready. Unfortunately, the person taking my order forgot to enter it into the computer system until I asked if my buzzer thing was working because it had taken an awfully long time to get a simple small shake. If you are able to find a seat outside at the rear of the store overlooking Monterey Bay the view is awesome, but there is not much of a view from inside seating nor the courtyard seating in the front of the store. They need an assigned person to patrol both inside and outside eating and seating areas since there is such a high volume of customers, the eating and seating surfaces need to be better cleaned. The shake was OK, nothing spectacular and it was less ice cream than milky (I saw them adding liquid to the ice cream machine just before my order was prepared so maybe it had not had enough time to freeze properly). As with most Cannery Row businesses there is no parking close by. This business does not seem to have any bathroom facilities nor anywhere for parents to wash off the sticky sweet treats from the hands and faces of their kids.

Still, it would be nice to be able to test it, maybe limit it to 2-3 flavors per person? I really wouldn't want to get back in line. The flavors I got to try were quite good. The Bees knees is award winning, so we felt like we had to get that but it was very underwhelming. While in line they were playing a video showing how they made their ice cream from scratch, and there was this crunchy dessert they broke into smaller pieces and mixed in with this ice cream, but I could not taste it. Plus the honey was so subtle. It felt more like a vanilla ice cream for the majority of the time. It still is a nice clean light flavor, but it would have been nice to pull the honey flavor forward a bit more. We also tried the eucalyptus mint chip which also had a light crisp flavor, mint was not too overpowering and the eucalyptus scent hit your nose first before you finish with the cooling mint. Exactly as advertised. Good if you like this combo of scent and flavor. My mom got the cold brew coffee and wow was that really good. If you are a coffee lover, you will enjoy it. Not too bitter, very balanced. My sister, sister's husband and kids also got ice cream, but I can't recall which flavors. They seemed to really enjoy it so all in all, the whole family loved this ice cream night. Overall, very pleased with quality and service. Would come back and try again.
