When we bought my daughter's prom dress it needed to be hemmed. The store we bought it from recommended Lulu Tailor. I forgot to get it hemmed until 5 days before the prom, and was panicked. The skirt of the dress had multiple layers of thin cloth, and a short train, and would take time. We went to Lulu Tailor and asked if she could do it before prom. I told her I would pay extra. She had my daughter try it on, took measurements, and had her walk around. My poor daughter was tripping over the train every time she turned around. Lulu suggested modifying it and we agreed. She quoted me $120, which was at the top of the posted range for hemming gowns. I was thrilled since it was a rush job. The gown was done in 4 days. She somehow kept the ethereal, floating look of the dress, but my daughter could move freely. It was gorgeous! Best of all, it was $98, less than the quote. Highly recommend! read more

I am lividdd! First of all, I was blind sighted because I was looking for Kim's Tailor but the gps took me to this place. Anyway...Terrible customer service. I literally just got hung up by the owner twice all because I asked her if my dress is ready because i didnt want to drive 25 mins for no reason and i get there and its not ready. I first bought my dress in two weeks ago. after i explained what i needed, she said to come back in a week. Im thinking the dress is ready and all she did was take the stitchings out for me to try on again! So now im annoyed and crunched for time because I fly to jamaica in a week! Now its been another week and here i am about to have a heart attack because not only did she not specify what time it will be ready but i am praying she altered my dress CORRECTLY. I can't say enough great things about Lulu Tailor and its owner, Jen. I purchased a full-length gown for my 9/29 wedding and needed 1) the hem shortened to tea length, 2) the top taken in, and 3) a portion of the bodice replaced with fabric to match the rest of the dress. Jen took her time with me when I droped off the dress, making sure she had all the measurements she needed to make the changes. She had the alterations completed on schedule and the work was extremely well done. She was recommended to me by the staff at Chique Prom, and Falls River is a drive from Durham, but I am thrilled I went with the recommendation and made the drive. I'll be back! read more

I needed a bridesmaid dress taken in and hemmed a bit on the bottom. They got it done very quickly and it looks great! They even took one of the cups in on the dress a little bit and you would have no idea! I highly recommend them for a great tailor experience. read more

As a former dressmaker, I am quite picky about having alterations done right. Over the years I have taken many items to Lulu and they have ALWAYS done an outstanding job at a reasonable price, unlike some other local tailors in prestigious locations. This past week I took my daughter's prom dress and not only was it altered impeccably, they did it in just a couple of days and it was inexpensive to boot. I have been searching for an honest, exceptional, reasonably priced tailor FOREVER! Nothing off the rack fits me and I have a closet full of clothing that needs to be altered. I dropped off two Jackets for zipper replacements and I was shocked at the price. (In a good way) They explained they do everything they can to keep overhead low and maintain quality. I have had a jacket in my car for 3 months, searching for a tailor who would not rip me off. I brought it to two different tailors at Falls Pointe and was quoted over thirty dollars for a full zipper replacement. One of requested I go buy the zipper because they did not have what I needed. The folks at Lulu explained the zipper was fine and the head just needed to be replaced. They would complete it in 2 days for about eight dollars. The other two tailors told me replacing the head was not an option and they would have to charge extra for this and that! I was impressed and really happy. I started bringing in pieces and each time they do not disappoint. The folks in the shop are really nice. They are also realistic if they can not repair something. I will send everyone I know to them. read more

BEWARE: I recently took a dress purchased on line from Neiman Marcus for $1295 plus tax that I bought for a wedding. I wanted it shortened to tea length and planned to use the cut off fabric to trim a wrap to go with the dress. I took it to this tailor as it was recommended by someone I met. They charged $100 in advance to shorten the dress, take a tuck in the bodice and another $45 to make a shawl using the cut off fabric. I picked it up today and could have cried! The hemming is fine but the neckline of the dress is ruined by stiff gathers that pucker and do not lay properly plus lose threads and picked fibers from the fabric I trimmed off myself when I got it home and looked at it closely. The shawl looks like the work of a rank amateur! Uneven, poorly done and unwearable! No wonder they make you pay in advance. I feel totally cheated! Now I have $1450 invested in a dress I cannot enjoy wearing. They said the fabric was difficult to work with. If it exceeded their skill level, they should have left it alone! I didn't even want the bodice altered. That was their idea! As for the scarf, I could have made it better myself. They are fine for simple work like hems, but never again will they touch an expensive garment of mine. BEWARE!!? read more

I really like Lulu Tailor. They do great dry cleaning. I pick up my clothes and they do not smell like chemicals! I also had them hem an expensive coat and they did a great job. The stitching looked just like I got it brand new from the store. All in all, I have never had a bad experience from them. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I brought my wedding dress in to be taken in. The dress needed a lot of work, the shoulders needed to be taken up, the sides needed to be taken in, the bottom needed to be hemmed and I needed a bustle added. They had my dress for 2+ weeks and when I picked it up I just wanted to cry. The dress has 3 layers, none of the layers were even. The liner wasn't taken up at all. The sides had a solid 4 inches that still needed to be taken in, the shoulders were fine but the work was sub par to say the least. I paid $300 upfront for all the alterations. When I addressed my concern about the dress still being way too big I was told "you have no butt, I can't fix that." Lulu's refused to fix any issues with the dress and after taking my dress to a second tailor and spending another $250 it finally fits correctly. The new tailor was horrified by the workmanship put in by lulu's. I will never take anything to lulu's as the employees were rude, refused any sort of refund and refused to fix their mistakes. Worst experience with a tailor I've ever had. read more

Lulus Tailor was fantastic! I really don't understand these negative reviews. My mom uses them regularly for her dress slacks and shirts, but even still I was weary to take my wedding dress in due to poor reviews. I gave them a shot despite my worries and I'm so glad I did! Not only was the owner sweet and easy to work with, but she did a wonderful job on my wedding gown! It needed quite a bit of work, most of it involving lace detail and the price was still much lower than expected! Lulus is affordable, professional and a wonderful tailor! Now that LuLu is on maternity leave, it's quite clear as to why LuLu's name is on the store front. I've been going here for years, but now that LuLu is off, for good reasons, I leave with a headache. It takes me at least 10 mins just to explain what I need, and upon pickup, it's not satisfactory. The gentleman working the front should let someone else run the shop as he makes everything overly complicated. Please come back LuLu !!! read more

At Lulu Tailors's the customer isn't always right. Your opinions and concerns are discounted. As far as the work; it's shoddy. I sew and thought that I could save myself some time by giving them the opportunity to do the work. I was wrong! There were slipped stitches, loose threads on my garment, not to mention the poor quality of the workmanship. When I mentioned the above issues with the workmanship, I was told that I was wrong. This unfortunately wasn't my first encounter with Lulu's attitude. You'd think that I would have learned my lesson the first time. Sadly I didn't. I will no longer use them as my tailor shop, nor recommend them. read more

Double charged me - their work seems to be good, but do not prepay / say you'll pay when you pickup the item. I paid when I dropped off a pair of pants AND later when I picked up the pants they charged me again, claiming I hadn't paid. I won't be returning. read more

This was an episode of Seinfeld! My wife took my pants for a simple hem job. She returned a few days later to pick them up. Lulu (or whoever the lady is that works there) said that she had already picked up the pants (even though my wife still had the ticket). My wife said no and that she would know if she had picked them up. "Lulu" said the pants were not there and that we should check at home to see if we had them. My wife explained that she had the ticket and therefore had not picked them up. Lulu said the ticket was wrong and became agitated and for some reason noted that the pants were old anyway (kind of besides the point). Anyway my wife told me the story (and I laughed at the bizarre world she described) and aside from writing a review we decided that my "old pants" and the 10 dollars we spent to get them hemmed were lost in Lulu Land and not worth anymore agitation. If you want a potential laugh and have some old pants and 10 dollars to throw away I can recommend Lulu's Tailor. read more

Be warned - this is a long story of woe that you need to read before you go to Lulu's Tailorshopp. I brought an expensive ($100) pair of dress pants in for a hem with cuffs and when I picked them up they were too short and the stitching quality wasn't up to what it should have been (The thread was falling out of the stitches and the quality was sub par). I showed the woman at the shop and she said, "No worry, we fix, come back on Tuesday." I came back on Tuesday and they fixed the stitching, but did not lengthen the pants. She said, you did not ask for the pants to be lengthened and if you ask again I can not do it for free. Also, I would lose the cuff as there was not enough material to lengthen the pants left with a cuff, come back in a week. I went back in a week and again the stitching was coming out and the pants had holes in them where the cuff were - which is unacceptable on a $100 pair of pants - the person should have told me about this and I would not have done anything, other than take the pants to another shop. This situation was getting frustrating to say the least and I just wanted my pants hemmed correctly at this point. I asked for the manager's phone number and was given the owner's number and I called her. She said she would meet me in a day at the shop and would check what was going on that night and call me back. I did not receive a phone call that night. I showed up at the shop and nothing was done to my pants. The holes were still there and the person at the shop that I originally dropped the pants off to was insulting, she asked me if the pants were used as they had wear on them. I was shocked to say the least after the last few weeks. I called the owner again and she said that they would fix the holes by making a "fake cuff". At this point I just wanted a replacement pair of pants and my money back for my alteration. I said, ok, make a fake cuff, but if this isn't correct, then I want my money back and a replacement pair of pants. After ten minutes of back and forth she agreed. She told me to show up at the shop that day at 5:00pm when she could be there and they would be ready. I showed up at 5:10pm and the pants were not ready, she said that they were being hand sewn and I should wait another ten minutes and they would be done. Fast forward another hour and she presented the pants to me with the "fake cuff' To be honest, I was shocked and horrified, my $100 pair of dress pants had a 1.5inch fake cuff that looked like they sewed a line across the pants to cover the holes up. I told the owner that this was unacceptable and as agreed to I wanted to replace the pants and receive a refund of the fee for the hem. She asked me to provide a receipt for the pants which I did yesterday along with a note to call me and I have not heard from the owner yet. So far, I have spent over four hours of my time and a few gallons of gas driving back and forth to Lulu Tailors and can't get satisfaction. I would strongly suggest that you stay away from Lulu's Tailorshop in Falls Village. read more
