I've been coming here for a little over a year and overall, I like the location, staff, and frame selection. However, it's definitely not cheap. I came in to get the lenses replaced on a pair of prescription sunglasses I had and it set me back over $300. The main issue I had was at pick up. I got a text on a Thursday saying my sunglasses were ready to pick up with a list of their hours. I came on a Saturday morning to find a post it note on the door saying they were closed for renovations... that would've been nice to know before I made the drive over. Given their limited hours, it's just disappointing that they couldn't have amended their boilerplate language to let me know about the planned construction so I didn't have to waste an hour going there only to find them closed. read more

He taught me more about my eyes than I've ever learned in all my 30 years of wearing contacts and glasses. Just and update on my overall experience with Ortho-K lenses which has been a little over 3 years to date. They have been amazing! I've been getting my Ortho-K replacement lens annually and only needing to wear them 1 night for every 4 days, which is about 2x a week. I love Lumen Optometric! Been a patient for several years. They did something that no other office did. They showed me what my eyes look like front and back and talked about the health of my eyes. Our eyes change and prescriptions need to be adjusted. For years my previous 2 doctors gave me the same contact prescription each time but not Lumen. They adjust my contacts to fit my changing eyesight so that I don't have to wear readers over my contacts like I was doing several years before I came to Lumen. I've been coming to Lumen for 3 years. I absolutely love it. The place is pristine. I recall during my first visit which was during the pandemic, I felt uber safe. Dr. To limited his in person contact and spoke with me through his computer. He dimmed the lights remotely and I was so impressed lol! 2nd and 3rd visits were with Dr. Hoshizaki. I absolutely adore her. She's easy to talk to and answers all my questions thoroughly. The staff is great. They're attentive and guide you through all the various tests. After my visits, I've been able to text/email the staff to ask questions. This is such a big plus for a geriatric millennial. You KNOW how we don't like to talk on the phone. I cannot emphasize enough how nice the office smells! It's like a boutique hotel. I haven't purchased glasses from them, but the brands they carry are wonderful. I love luxury Japanese brands - understated and artistic! The only downside is the parking. If you're lucky, you'll get parking right outside. But with excellent coffee and sushi as neighbors, parking is not guaranteed. I always buffer myself an extra 10 minutes in case I have to park in the lot by Wistaria. read more

Dr Eric To helped me get started with prescription glasses 5 years ago. I got tired of wearing glasses and was considering laser surgery. Dr To discussed the risk factors to laser surgery and highly recommended ortho-k since my site was not that bad. I love the option of a non-surgical way to correct my vision by reshaping my cornea problems while sleeping. This is a perfect option for me since I did not like the idea of wearing lenses during the day. I've been using ortho-k for 2 years and I absolutely love the product and my vision has been consistently clear. I started out wearing the lenses every night and now I can wear it once every 4 days. My husband and I first time here at Lumen. And I can say this is by far our favorite eye clinic/shop! We came across this eye clinic/shop from yelp reviews and a friend recommendation. When we first came in, we were in awe on how gorgeous the place is. Not the typical eye clinic/shop that we are used to. It's very clean, spacious and feels very cozy inside. We were greeted by their receptionists and was attended right away. The location is also great. Right off the freeway, plenty of parking spaces in the front and back of the clinic, close to Santa Anita mall and many good restaurants around it. I was able to walk around with my daughter and ate good ice cream while waiting for my husband after I was done. Everything feels brand new. The equipments that they have looks like they were new and well maintained. They sanitized the area before and after used. I feel so safe knowing everything is clean! They took me in first then my husband because one of us had to takecare of our daughter. Dr. Eric To was very sweet and professional. He was very gentle and compassionate. He took his time explaining everything about my eye problem. I felt comfortable and at ease the whole eye examination. No discomfort at all. At the end of the examination, my husband and I are both pleased with the great service they provided us and for sure will come back. We never waited longer than 5 min. Other eye clinic, they make you wait for at least 20 minutes which i hate. I'm so glad this clinic is different. They are very fast and efficient! I am so impressed! As a new patient, I was very impressed with the doctors and staff. Everyone was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The two things I really appreciate about this location are: 1. Online Appointments: Lumen's website makes it extremely easy to schedule appointments, and allows patients to complete/submit paperwork online prior to the scheduled visit. 2. Assistance with Frames: Staff was very attentive/knowledgeable in helping me find the right frame fit for my face shape/size. My family and I will be coming back in the future. read more

First off doctor gets 5 stars. He is the best doctor I have seen to date for my eyes, always attentive, takes his time and makes sure that the prescription is spot on. Now here's where two stars get knocked off: Since coming to this office, my biggest issue is with the front desk. They need to be retrained and here's why: 1. Most recent visit, I asked them to run care credit, they didn't know how to, and they spent over 35 minutes trying to figure out how to run it, when in the beginning I said I can just charge it from my phone and send them the payment but they kept refusing and said they're going to try a different method, and called over the manager for help, but she didn't even know how to run it. In the end I ended up just paying from the app while they were still struggling to run it. 2. I called in today to schedule a check because my contact isn't working and it's causing an eye to be blurry, with my work schedule I requested to be on a wed (since Dr To is there on weds) morning since I work in the afternoon, we'll the girl I talk to scheduled me 2 MONTHS later! For a follow up on the contacts. After I hung up the call I get a text not even 5 minutes later saying they had a cancellation for this Wednesday. So, it makes me wonder if they're not looking at the schedule, or if they're just scheduling however they feel. 3. I called in one time told them that I forgot to wear my contacts at night once, and they take the loaner glasses back so I was left without anything to use in case of emergencies, asked the front if I can have someone run to the office to grab either a loaner pair or contacts to last the day. They said no I had to be at the office, with my vision I couldn't see what was in front of me so how do you expect me to drive? There's other issues with the front desk but these three was the biggest issues I've had so far. Overall, doctor is amazing but the front staff is a huge headache to deal with. read more

Wow. When did our little Sierra Madre add this place. All the cutest new businesses are popping up and how continent is this one. My insurance actually recommended this shop to me for prescription sunglasses. I walked in Saturday afternoon and was greeted by the sweet and happy helper. She let me look around, then helped me to pick out the perfect pair for me. She was extra patient as I am beyond indecisive and really helped me. I forgot my prescription like a dummy but she was great and made sure to save all that we had done in her computer under my profile so that when I returned they would be able to give me the best deal and order my glasses. Years after lazik plus my aging, I finally have to get glasses again. Initially, I picked to this because it's next to a coffee shop I go to regularly. I made an appt with Lumen, because I wanted to get a really detailed eye exam (especially with my dry eyes issues). I had an appt. with Dr. Hoshizaki, and it was the best eye exam I have ever had. She took all these crazy high tech scans, and she carefully answered all the questions I had. I never felt rushed, and she was super thorough in explaining my exam results. I opted for Ortho-K, which I have never heard of until my visit. My prescription is pretty minor (-1.00 for both eyes). I didn't plan on getting them, but it sounded too good to be true. Once I did all my research, I pulled the trigger, and I am blown away. Ortho-K is better than sliced bread! It's like having Lasik, without the laser and slicing my eye open. Just wear the lens at night, and poof, I have perfect vision long distances. Nighttime has some disadvantages with halos and bursts, but hey, I don't go much at night at my age, so it's all good. Ortho-K is not perfect, but not wearing glasses is so liberating (no more foggy glasses!!) BTW, I was not compenstated for this review, just an honest review. I highly recommend an exam from Lumen. This was my third visit to Lumen Optometric. I was impressed, but not surprised, to find that they have kept up on their technology and offered new equipment. The doctor was thorough, and concerned about my vision. Her professionalism was very much appreciated. They offer quality frames, that don't come cheap, but last and come with a non-scratch warranty. Laylani, Danielle and Dr To were super helpful and answered all our questions. They were able to pull up my wife and my insurance and made the process easy. Although they did suggest a unique type of lens that was pricey, they didn't force us into it and let us work with what we asked with our FSA. Just be aware when you get your exam there may be extra for the retina test (I believe it was called) so if you're coming for a barebones prescription test just ask in advance . The only con I can think of was that their cheaper option of frames were quite limited and parking isn't very abundant. Everything was made as safe as could be with COVID. Temp and symptom checks at the door, masks, air purifiers in each room (often multiple), everything wiped off, masks, and part of the appointment was over a screen to reduce exposure. My family and I have been going to Lumen for a few years and it's been a great experience. I recently went during Covid time and felt extremely safe. They take your temperature at the door and provide sanitizer. Part of the appointment is done via zoom in one room and then moves to the second room for the portion where the Dr checks your eyes. Before Covid I also felt like the office was very clean and organized. At every appointment I've had the Dr does a great job of explaining everything so much that I rarely have follow up questions. I also really like being able to make appointments online and receiving text reminders. read more
