Lumiere is the quintessential family run operation. Andrew, the son, is the winemaker. His mom is the hostess in the tasting room. There's no grandiose buildings. No overwhelming decor or snobbery. Just a simple, comfortable tasting room and a relaxed, quaint feel to the place. I wasn't blown away by the wines, but I did like the merlot. It was a little difficult to gauge a taste of the samples when the pours weren't even an ounce. Proper pour tops would go a long way. Apparently their operation is expanding in the future, including an event site. If you're looking for a simple stop that's off the beaten path, give this joint a try. Our hosts, Martha and Andrew, not only poured the wine, they made it! How often do you get to talk to the actual vintner? We didn't go to many in Temecula but this was by far our favorite winery and overall experience there. Located off the main road, it's certainly not fancy or awe-inspiring to look at. But Martha, the owner, is very sweet and takes her time to show you pictures and explain to everyone how the winery got started and all the details about each wine. While it is a small business, she has farmed in the fields and still drives down from LA every weekend to run the shop. I appreciate the love and the dedication to her family winery when she could just as easily hire a 20 something year old to pour the wines. If you have a sweeter palate, I think a good portion of the wines here will appeal to that. The white merlot is very different, light and easy to drink. The late harvest Sauv Blanc is just sweet enough so it's similar to a Moscato, but not quite a dessert wine. The Cabernet port is excellent. Our favorites were the reds. The 2006 Cab Sauv had such an intense fruit flavor that both my husband and I were super impressed. But it didn't not lose you on the finish like many of the other red's of the region we've tasted. Being 8 yrs old now, I think it's perfect to drink in the next year. The 2009 Black Cab combine Cab Sauv with Petit Verdot, so there is a little more complexity and a bit more tanins. But again, the flavors were fantastically balanced and with another 2-3 years, would be amazing. We walked away with 4 bottles of the reds and could not be happier! read more

Lumiere winery special for a few reasons: -Small, family owned and operated winery -We had the pleasure of having Martha (mother of the owner, Andrew) pour for us. Martha was very personable and we enjoyed hearing about her family's stories and the history of their vineyard -Great vouz le vouz (excuse my poor French spelling) sparkling wine (aka Champagne). We ended up buying a bottle for $24. -Their port red (dessert wine), cleverly named "Sofa king red" was my favorite wine of the day, BUT at $65 per bottle, I couldn't bare to buy one. When my wife and I went for our first wine tasting experience in Temecula we stopped at three different places to get a reasonable one day comparison. Lumiere Winery was our third and by far most favorite. We found it on Yelp with a solid 4.5 star rating. It was very small and personal. We shared the tasting room with one other person so we got to chat much more about the winery and the experience felt very relaxed and enjoyable. We also got a nice tasting of some of the food because it was a new chefs first weekend. We tried a great salad and some of the cheese plate. Overall it was an unbelievable experience and our favorite Temecula winery. It's not near the biggest or the most popular but give Lumiere a shot for a different laid back wine tasting! read more

The property itself is really nice, great views all around. However, I can't say the same for the wine. I was completely disappointed. They lacked customer service, the lady which seemed to be the owner was "trying" to be nice but came across as to dry & some of her comments were completely unnecessary. For starters their wines are over priced & they tasted poorly. The White Merlot was the only one that I actually liked but I wasn't about to pay $22 for a bottle. The reds were terrible one of them wreaked of horse manure it even tasted like it was bottled in the stables. I don't know how long/days they had the red wines opened but it was way to opaque & prune like thickness to be pouring. We will not be visiting the winery again. read more

I had heard of Lumiere a while back but never got up this way to try it out. I finally came with a friend to try some of these wineries off the beaten path. I have to echo what others have said about the owner, Martha. She is without a doubt one of the nicest, personable and knowlegeable servers I have ever met. Just coming her to enjoy the fantastic view and get to know her made the trip worthwhile. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the wines. The have a variety of aged, expensive wines that simply didn't appeal to me. This is too bad because I'd like to join the wine club here just to enjoy the atmosphere. Most of the red wines I tasted had what is usually described as "earthy." While many people appreciate this, it's not my cup of tea . . . er, wine. If you're in the area, I'd certainly consider stopping. If you really like older, earthy tasting wines, you will likely really enjoy their wines. If not, stop and meet Martha anyway. read more

Came here twice. First was a year and a half ago when my son was 5 months old. I have fond memories of how nice they were to him and the wonderful view of vineyards on a slightly foggy morning as I had to feed him. When we returned recently, they somehow remembered that we had been there before with a baby. Amazing! This small production family-operated winery offers an intimate tasting experience with beautiful mountain views. Martha, the owner, and Kyle were extremely friendly and they provided homemade bread during my tasting. Martha shared pictures of the winery when they initially purchased the property with her husband decades ago as their romantic labor of love. Part of the wine tasting experience for me involves an appreciation of place, the winemaking process, and the individuals making it happen. You get this at Lumiere and it enriches the entire experience. I'm a huge fan of red wine and this is the speciality of Lumiere where you'll be able to try some of the oldest library vintages of delicious reds across Temecula Valley. My personal favorite was their 2009 "Black Cab" which is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Petit Verdot. Outstanding! My only criticism of Lumiere are their relatively high bottle prices which are approximately two-times higher than comparable red-centric wineries such as Baily, Palumbo, and Vindemia. While Lumiere has a wonderful selection of older vintages the same can be said for Baily where you can enjoy an amazing vertical Cabernet Sauvignon tasting at their library estate for half the price per bottle. While I don't mind spending over $100 per bottle for an amazing Napa Cab I'm a bit reluctant to do so in Temecula where there are options near $50 per bottle. If Lumiere had more reasonable prices for their wine bottles I'd give them a higher rating. Overall, a nice place to visit and their tasting menu is excellent if you prefer red wine! read more

We came by Lumiere on a Saturday afternoon. There is a preset list of 7 wines to taste for $15 plus tax. One great aspect of wine tasting at Lumiere is that you get to keep the tasting glass! After having been at some of the bigger wineries that day, it was nice to visit a winery that was a bit more intimate. When we entered the small tasting room there wasn't anyone but our group there. Since we had twenty people, we filled the tasting bar and kind of overwhelmed the staff who were scrambling to get all our tastings started. Everyone was so nice to us, and explained each wine we tried. I wasn't able to try the sweeter wines on the menu due to time (we were on a tight schedule and apparently I was talking more than I was sipping), but the black cab was good. I wasn't a big fan of the merlot, but in general, I'm not really a merlot drinker, so if it's your thing, you'll probably like Lumiere's merlot. read more

Beautiful winery and lovely service. I came with my boyfriend, mom, dad, and my two baby nieces and they were so welcoming. We were also able to bring a picnic and enjoy it here, with the fantastic view and the tasty wines. The 2017 White Merlot was a favorite of ours. Lumiere Winery was part of our recent visit to Temecula. It was our goal to visit wineries that we have never been to. To step outside our comfort zone of familiar wineries. The wineries and the grounds were quite beautiful. The tasting fees were $10 for either a white or a red flight. The premium flight was $15 and included both the whites and the Reds, plus a souvenir glass. This is the way to go. The server was very friendly and attentive, giving us the history of the grounds and the winery. The Viognier was my personal favorite. ( coming from someone who definitely prefers Reds). The Chardonnay was also very good. In fact, we bought a bottle of each. The Reds were good, but not spectacular. In my mind, the price point for the Reds was a little high. I prefer, Reds very fruit forward and full bodied. These were a little light for my palate. The Late harvest Chardonnay was delicious. The Sparkling wine was also quite good. This is a delightful winery. Definitely worth the time to visit it. read more

Do not waste your time here. The wine was not good and the atmosphere was bland. Myself and my guest both did not prefer the taste of the wines and when the owner asked us we were honest and said, "This was not our favorite." After saying that after two wines the owner got upset with us. I understand this is her winery but she needs to realize not everyone will like her wine. Service was slow, white wine was WARM and environment was hostile. Go to Peltzer just down the road. WAY better! read more

It was 5:30 pm and i was looking for a winery that would still be open for tastings. I noticed Lumiere closed at 6. With low probabilities of being served out comes Stephanie greeting us. We opted for the 7 tastes with a meat and cheese platter. Despite the close to closing time Stephanie was superb in making sure we enjoyed our short stay. As far as the wine we found the Cab and White Merlot as the tastiest for us. The place is small quiet elegant but simple. I could not have asked for more. We bought a few bottles and went home. When looking for a serene and calm Temecula wine country experience, look no further than Lumiere. Perched high on a hill and surrounded by their own fruit, the view, breeze and scenery are tranquil and relaxing. I very much enjoyed the small scale and atmosphere provided by this intimate setting. One of the owners is a retired school teacher and poured our wine, while her son is the winemaker. Our host happily told us that she purchased the facility (17 planted acres) in 1987 with her husband (Head of Pathology for the VA) for $357k! The family could not have been nicer, and seemed very happy to be in the wine business. If I was able to write a review exclusively on the experience, people, setting, and service, it would be 5 stars. Unfortunately, the wine was somewhat over priced and very fruity in every varietal. This is not a bad thing, but does not typically represent the finest quality wine. I was expecting more after seeing the 4 1/2 Star review on yelp, but after tasting here I can easily say do not waste your time or money here. The staff was very friendly unfortunately their wines were not. The 2007 Sauvignon Blanc smelled like apple juice and tasted like sour apple juice. The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc was actually a decent wine, but it was downhill from there. The reds and white merlot all had a sour and flat taste to them. I don't like writing negative reviews and was probably going to let this slide as an "oh well we won't make that mistake again" decision, but the final straw was the sparkling wine that was flat when it was poured. Save some money and a little gas and just stop at Peltzer Winery a couple hundred feet before Lumiere read more

We came here based on other Yelp reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. We were able to take our tastings outside on the patio, rather than standing at the tasting bar, which was fantastic. The patio is lovely, and there was a great cross breeze on Saturday when we were there. The price point of $15 for the tastings was fair, I think, and you get to keep your glass. We also ordered the large charcuterie board, which was perfect. The meats and cheeses were really nice and the fresh honeycomb was really the best part of the board. We didn't find a wine that we fell in love with, but overall, their wines were MUCH better than the winery we were at earlier in the afternoon. Loved this place! Super quaint and just an all around great place to spend the afternoon. The one staff member who helped us was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the wines available.
