Did a random search to find something sweet to eat and this place came up. We are not from the area so tried to find places to try. Walked into this small little ice cream shop. Staff acknowledged us and welcomed us in. I saw a sign on door for fig cake ice cream sundae and my boyfriend ordered a banana split. Fig sundae was (Told HOMEMADE) fig cake with caramel sauce topped with ice cream scoop, I only vanilla for these types of things and came with whipped cream. Can I just say the cake was hot or heated already and had an amazing warm seasonings in it and a slightly crispy bottom and that vanilla ice cream added the perfect topping to that. I will say that was the BEST cake I have ever eaten and I didn't even know if I liked fig!! (Loved it so much went back the next day and ordered 2 of them) His banana split he got chocolate, vanilla and they were out of strawberry so he got cherry with hot fudge and nuts and whipped cream on top!! This place is definitely a must try even with a short drive! Top tier. They also mentioned they make their own ice cream too!! Have a variety of different flavors!!! read more

I stopped in with my daughter and four grandkids only three old enough to eat any ice cream, mine butter pecan, daughter's pineapple both very good. The three little ones had lemon which was outstanding, strawberry (amazing), and licorice chocolate chip which I did not sample, I do not like licorice, but my oldest grandson did who's 5. I wish I could do more stars!! I had Lumpy's many years ago and was the best homemade ice cream I ever had. Still today they continue to hold the title. Staff is really nice! There was a car in the handicap and I have a disability that affects my walking. The owner(I kind of remember that mustache) came and helped me in. Store nice and clean. I can't believe I've never been to Lumpy's! I've had their ice cream at events around town but here they are, only a few miles from other businesses I frequent. I love ice cream and there are definitely many choices at the grocery store, but there is something special about going to an ice cream shop. Does it enhance the flavor? Maybe not, but smell has been known to (science) and Lumpy's smells of waffle cones and vanilla deliciousness. I've gotten away from visiting local and this Lumpy's visit was part of my efforts to improve. On this Sunday around 2pm it was pretty empty which allowed me to feel comfortable asking to sample a couple flavors before committing (which is welcomed anyway). I sampled Anna's Anise, which was so unique and refreshing but I couldn't see eating a cup of it. My husband sampled Montezumas Revenge, a very spicy chocolate. The nice young man serving us did ask him first if he's ok with spice - he was warned. Even my husband who will dump an entire spice tray on his Thai food said it was legitimately spicy! So again, a very intriguing flavor but not up to an entire cup of it. I ended up with hazelnut coffee which was fantastic and he got Apple Pie, also very tasty. The creamy, icy balance stayed perfect throughout. There were so many choices, and from what I understand, they use local, natural ingredients. I will be back to try more of the regular offerings along with seasonal flavors. The inside of the shop is simple, not trendy or themed, just lots of nods to the Lumpy's brand and the Wake Forest area. You can feel the love here. We went here one afternoon after leaving the park with a friend. We loved it! Everyone Inside is friendly. We got two kiddie cups and a single scoop ice cream cone. I love the outside area to eat. I think the one star reviewers of this ice cream parlor, have broken taste buds. This is the most flavorful ice cream I have ever had! You get to sample them before you buy, also. We sampled multiple flavors and they all had wonderful tastes! Rocky road with my go to. I added hot fudge on top to add extra chocolate! Highly recommend, while enjoying downtown Wake Forest. The owner and workers are very customer service oriented. Everyone was personable and quick to give samples. The store has about a dozen flavors at a time. I thought the small scoop in a cup (pictured) was more like a kids size scoop, but the quality of the ice cream was good. My niece who got a kids scoop in a cone ended up with more ice cream volume. We've tried Lumpy's twice. One at their food truck and once at their store. Both times had different flavors. Both times ZERO taste. The gentleman with the mustache was at the food truck. GREAT customer service. But at the store it was some young kids that seemed annoyed they had a customer. I asked for hot fudge that tasted like burnt, grainy chocolate sauce.
