I wanted to buy some head cheese lunch meat from the deli. I saw the price tag posted as around $16.00 a pound. Then I took another look and noticed the price was actually $25.? per pound but posted to the side of the displayed head cheese pointing to another lunch meat. I found that very deceptive. I could afford only a little more than 1/4 lb. which cost me $8.00. Why are Lunardis prices double from other food stores, especially their meat and bakery products. This is definitely an upper scale grocery. The store was immaculate & super shiny clean. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the store. The deli is amazing, have it your way build your own or buy one made ready to go. I couldn't help but notice the guy outside under the tent who sharpens knives. I requested a hot carvary sandwich. The guy Jerry who was helping me said there was no more Tri tip. I said yes there is. He also said they only put the bread in the meat on the sandwich. Nothing else I got upset and I said no I want something else. I was gonna get a hot Panini then I google how do they make the car free bread sandwich in that says it put everything on it even pistol so he canceled my other order and made it for me but why are you telling me that you don't you only put meat in the bread you put everything else on it. I'm highly upset wasting time for customer service but at the end, he did make it to see how it taste. I think it burnt a little bit. I told him I don't want to burnt toast. Lunardi's is one of my more frequently visited grocery stores simply because of the convenience- it's right off Skyline near the 280, which makes it an easy stop on my way to and from work. The store is always clean, well-stocked, and well-organized. The deli and butcher counter are standout features. The staff are consistently kind, knowledgeable, and clearly take pride in what they do. The deli, in particular, is one of the best in the area in my opinion- tons of fresh, delicious options every day. Whether you want a breakfast burrito, a sandwich, or sliced meats and sides, they do it right. That said, Lunardi's is definitely on the expensive side compared to other grocery stores nearby. Because of that, I tend to avoid buying items here that I can easily get for cheaper at larger chains. But if you're after fresh produce, quality meats, or a quick, well-made meal, this place delivers. if you're not happy or you're having a bad day go home but don't get mad because someone asked you for something different than what you grabbed if you know you know. The Apples for the last three months are always partly rotten.Same with a lot of the other fruit. The San Francisco potato salad has a high percentage of bad potatoes. There is no excuse for this. I now go to another store in the area. read more

I started trying these folks out about three months ago. Lunardi's does not have the lowest prices. That's just a fact and it is the only ding against them. Most prices are higher, but not insane by today's inflation standards. And I know it must be hard to compete for price against the behemoth chains where I have often been treated so rudely and even aggressively sometimes. But let me tell you, brother/sister. They make up for it. 1. Krabby cakes at 1.99 apiece and good size. A delicious meal on a budget. 2. Good produce section that is well maintained 3. The deli meat. Try their roast beef cut thin for sandwiches. So good. Romeo might even give you a taste to help you decide. 4. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They will usually even patiently laugh at my stupid jokes. That's nice for a lonely old man. 5. Products I cannot find elsewhere. I like discovering new things. 6. Kitschy music. I love it 7. An overall 50's/60's vibe like stepping back in time. 8. A wonderful meat and seafood counter. Huge selection and the staff are friendly and know their stuff. Try the lamb sausage if they are not sold out (and call yourself lucky). 9. Easy and safe parking 10. Never more than 3 deep at the checkout. At least not that I have ever seen. Have been shopping here for over 15 years. Went the other day to purchase chicken wings, flat part. As the nice butcher was getting gthem for me, another butcher came up and told him I can't only purchase the flat part, I need to also purchase the drumsticks. I told him I don't like the drumsticks. He said if people only purchase the flat part, we'd have only drumsticks left. I told him to give me 4 drumsticks. I will never return to that store again. If you want real quality deli meats, this is your place. They have the proper meats and know how to cut and package them. They understand thin cut. The meats are excellent too. You won't be disappointed with either. As for the fruits, they are upscale. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. read more

Sandwich Review: In terms of proximity to home, Lundari's is quick option for me to grab a deli sandwich at a reasonable price. You can build your own, starting at $8.99 and the size is perfect for one meal for bigger appetites and probably two for smaller ones. When you get to the deli, grab a number. It was kind of a free for all, until I noticed the number ticker hanging above the deli. I went with a roast beef sandwich on ciabatta. The use Columbus meats for their sandwiches and if you look at my sando picture, it was a perfect medium rare and great in for a Deli sandwich. I added the pesto mayo and garlic spread plus all the veggies. I opted for toasted, which adds an additional 5 minutes to complete. Overall a really tasty sandwich for $10.99. I asked for cheddar cheese, but they forgot to put it in. No biggie. For a side I went with a small cup of soup. $4.99 is not bad for something I wouldn't cook myself. The clam chowder was tasty enough and was nice to dip my sandwich in from bite to bite. Overall, decent place to grab a sandwich for the price. It wouldn't be my first option but it serviceable enough for me to come back again when I'm coming home off of 280. read more

Roast beef sandwich on dutch crunch is my favorite in the area. Deli is usually pretty quick too. I have never had issues with certain staff at the store like some reviewers mentioned. I go often enough that I see the same workers frequently, and I can tell some of them feel stressed at times, but they are obviously still making an effort to be pleasant. I think some of the people who live in this area just have a stick up their ass. Prices are high for everything, but the location is convenient right off Skyline, I find myself coming here for a few necessities and a sandwich every week. I go there mainly for the boxed/canned items as the produce and meats are not as good as alternatives (Costco and Molly Stones), but understand they are priced higher. They are a convenience for last minute snacks on the way home. The deli is pretty bad, better alternatives local and the bakery section is on par with Safeway (not saying much). Finally I visited a Lunardis! I wanted some deli snacks for a solo carb party (potato salad, mac salad, hot mac) but I found this amazing hot Italian Wedding Soup!! Soup is one of my favorite foods I enjoy how versatile and healthy it can be (NOT looking at you clam chowder) and this was a true classic Italian wedding, no funny add-ins. Deep rich flavor, the little baby meatballs were perfect and plentiful, lots of spinach (?) and pasta pearls, with a kick of heat too from red pepper flakes - exactly what my soul needed. I use their meat department for lamb shoulder, and in November to buy turkey wings to make an extra batch of homemade gravy. Wish they would carry goat sometimes. Recently used them for a custom birthday cake. I brought "inspiration" photos of a cake I felt they ought to be able to recreate or do something close to it. Was happy with the result, and will probably use them again for birthdays since it went so well. Picked up day before event and kept in fridge. No color bleed from sprinkles. read more

So I went by today to get a few things to make some specialty sandwiches as I was having guests over. The turkey, lasagna soup is excellent and get two large batches every time I see it. I wish I knew if they had it on specific days as others have asked as well. I had given up on the deli service, but thought I would at least get some prosciutto, ia few kinds to pair with cheeses, different sandwich bites and cocktails I'm making. I've just been getting the stuff by the cheese counter, but since there was no one in line, thought I would get some domestic prosciutto, but the lady working the counter was only willing to give me the imported stuff. At almost $30 a pound, you can at least have the sign up for the domestic, which is about the same taste but a lot less expensive. "I don't have that one open" OK then give me a little of the imported. When I decided I needed a little of the imported anyway, "it's gonna take a while to open." And then I got this butchered mess. I wasn't gonna say anything, but when one of my favorite people at the checkout line could tell I wasn't too happy. I mentioned it to them. I could deal with the attitude, but posting this because of the mess she gave me. Bottom line: if you don't want to work or deal with people, it's probably the wrong place to work. It reminded me of some of the old Russian bakeries I would go to, and the saucy attitude you get from the people behind the counter but this is my local grocery store. That is already too high of a price. Looks like I'll be spending more time in Shopping in Millbrae or south city, even though Lynardis is walking distance from my house. Shame. read more

On the plus side, there's decent parking and freeway accessibility. Nicely presented - better lit/internal space than most Bay Area Wholefoods. My experience was using their Deli counter - the food quality was terrible, overcooked/dry chicken, the rest of the food [at around 2pm] looked old/overcooked/mushed not fresh, and as others have noted, the counter staff struggle to even know. - or recognise ! - what is for sale , and the pricing of it. Service was sluggish, and the remainder of the store 'deals' reminded me of the so-called 'comparison pricing not necessarily ever sold at this price' claims at Ross/TJ/Nordstrom Rack style for clothing - , ie Lunardi's claimed deals on produce, everyday stuff, I doubt anyone ever paid yet they claim to be offering a deal off an inflated-never-sold-at price. So it's a nicely presented, below average service, conveniently located, over-priced regional grocery chain store. read more

I had a great experience here. I like Lunardi's, it makes other grocery stores look uncivilized and dirty. This store is clean, it's neat and it's very organized! The fresh produce area looks so fresh and is neatly placed and organized into their own categories. Other grocery stores produce areas always look so unorganized and messy with food on the floor but not here. The people here are so kind too! I had two random interactions coincidentally and I asked an employee for help finding some shredded cheese. I wish I got his name but he was an older looking gentlemen walking around the produce with gray hair on April 29th at around 5pm. He was super kind and helped me find the shredded cheese. The other customers are very well-mannered and super considerate. One of them asked me to go in front of him in line because I had a few items and he had more. I just moved here from Texas and I think I've found where I'll be shopping at from now on. read more

Is it weird to review your grocery store? Who cares. I love this store. It's my favorite thing about having moved up Peninsula to South City. Everything about this store says well done. The staff is so friendly and helpful. And employees seem to stay for a long time which front eh customer perspective is lovey - we see folks every week and it makes for a much better grocery experience. Side note - I really do hate grocery shopping so this is a huge bonus. The butchers are excellent and meat / fish / poultry is very good quality. Nice bakery and good deli selection. Lots of day to day foods but also a lot of high quality gourmet ingredients. A surprising number of items for such a small store. Another bonus - small store. Makes getting in and out easier. And the produce is beautiful. I am from down Peninsula and Draegers has the best produce in town. I'd put Lunardi's up against them and the prices are right close to national stores like Safeway. When people ask me how I feel about living in SSF I tell them the best part is Lunardi's. Other benefits include being right near the beach and the City and closer to wine country - but Lunardi's is tops. read more

I was at the Lunardi market in San Bruno today 11/6/2023. I have been going there for 30 years. The manager and staffs before had been very helpful, courteous and polite. But unfortunately today I had a totally very different experience. There were only two lines available. One checkout line was tended by a young lady checker and her line was very long and I could see she was working as far as possible. The other was tended by an Asian older women who was taking her own sweet time and chatting with the customer and she had only two customers in line as it was a line for 12 items or less. I went over to see if she could help me or call for backup cashier. As I was approaching her, and even before I could say anything, she pointed up to the 12 items sign and very rudely told me to move to the other line. As I started to saying something, she admonished me with her finger and with a disgusted expression on her face told me to move off her line. I was dumbfounded at first but then anger set in. I have to apologize for trying to get back into the long line, zipping around my shopping cart in anger. I am sorry for that. But by then I was angry, I went back to her to let her know how rude she was, she told me to go back to my other line and challenged me to call the manager. She then puffed out her chest, showing me her name tag, with the name Kris ( not too sure if I got the spelling right) telling me her name is Kris May or something sound as such. She challenged me, daring me. Her face was so arrogant and she was so full of herself as if telling me, what can you do? I was furious by then. I go to that market every week for 30 years and had never had such an awful experience. I am not planning to go shopping there anymore as long as "Kris" is still work there as a checker. The store itself is great, and there are so many positive and helpful people who work at the store. The store is clean and the food is great. I only had one complaint, I was at the store and a staff member named Nick, was just so vile and rude. I have visited the store multiple times and that same person is always so vile and rude. Thought it was a one off, but it was each time I was in the store. Very unfortunate considering everyone else is so nice and friendly and pleasant. I went to Lunardis today and the Chinese lady at the last register did not say hello or anything else for that matter. Very rude handling my products and completely silent for over 5 minutes. I said thank you very much and she did not even look. I understand that some people can be having a bad day, but this is the 4th time she checks me out and the same sour attitude every time. If she does not like her job she probably should quit or retire. The last straw was when I pay in cash. she just threw the change in the counter. Today I made my weekly trip to Lunardi's. The deli counter was populated with some teen bros who were clearly stoned out of their minds and there wasn't really much of a mind there to begin with so this turned out to be a pretty big problem. I asked what must have been the stupidest one there for a half pound of sliced chicken breast. I pointed to it under the glass so that part of the conversation went well. After he was done he stood there staring down at the counter for a solid minute before asking me "What kind of ham was this again?" "It's chicken." "Oh... I can't find it on the list." He shows me the list he's looking at. It is a list of hams. It says that it is a list of hams right at the top of the list in big bold letters. "That is chicken. Chicken is not a ham. You are not going to find chicken anywhere on a list of hams. Go find the other list." "Oh. They all look the same to me." He just stands there, completely dumbfounded and unable to process anything that is happening around him. Finally some other kid tells him what numbers to punch in. This kid needs to go back to preschool and whoever's doing the hiring needs to ask some better questions. read more

Expensive groceries but awesome bakery selection. I don't really shop for groceries here since I have a Lucky's near my house. However, that being said, I do make the 10-15 minute drive (I know, so far right?) just to go to their bakery. Pretty large selection of morning treats... just be aware that they tend to sell out of their fresh goods by the late afternoon. What prompted me to write this review in the first place was the taste of their chocolate croissants. I absolutely LOVE them. If any of you like the Starbucks chocolate croissant, I guarantee you will love the one from Lunardi's! It's a lot bigger & tastes very fresh. There are also little chocolate chips on the top of the croissant which are not only adorable but also yummy! I normally like my croissants toasted but these ones are so good that I can eat them without it being toasted. Ahhhhhhhh! I went to get a sandwich, Flowers and some wine. I always stop here when I go to the airport. I got stuck in the parking lot and went to speak with the Manager to help me and without hesitation he took care of my needs. This is a great store with great food and an awesome staff and store manager. I highly recommend you shop here if you have the chance. read more

Ambiance is so so. Service is pretty Bad. But the service is not bad from all employees here. I've been shopping here for often on for about seven years now. Today, Thursday, May 18 at around 9:30 AM I was there to pick up some breakfast for my fiancé and daughter. I am standing there at the breakfast counter, and I literally stood there for about 10 minutes. While all the workers walked around and never acknowledged me once. A particular worker who was working on a cake by the name of PATTY notice that I got frustrated and proceeded to tell me she's not supposed to help me that the workers in the deli are supposed to help me. Patty proceeded to advise me that I needed to get in touch with the workers in the deli, all the while Patty had numerous opportunities to communicate with one of her coworkers that there was customers at the breakfast counter. For whatever reason when I brought that to Patty's attention, she responded "sir that's not my responsibility" (I can't make this stuff up) . First of all if you're an employee, add an establishment you are all one team regardless of your specific job category. Customers pay the bills end of story. Management really needs to get this girl some training ASAP. Absolutely ridiculous. Linardi's prices should reflect their customer service and vice versa. Bad experience at meat department, the clerk was angry and rude; I honestly felt he was being prejudiced. The clerk at the meat department was an older maybe Hindu or Fiji; there was no line of customer's waiting for service only me. The man seem disgusted that I ask about the product I wanted to purchase and angry to have to tend to me maybe...: Lunardi's offers a great selection of products and the quality is really good but honestly I have experienced this type of behavior in different occasions and I have seen it happen to others there as well. I really believe that a person that treat others in such a way have no right to work in customer service, maybe a job in the back of the store would be more suitable for that type of people. For now I will take my business to other stores where they train their employees on great customer service and the negative impact of being prejudiced. read more
