the Store is retro via ambiance, and on the smaller size, but it looked to be well stocked this the day / morning before Thanksgiving, It was clean, but my impression is that it has not been renovated recently. Parking for me was easy this AM, but it is shared with both a Wells Fargo Bank, USPS, Wing Stop, and Round Table Pizza. The store looked well stocked with merchandise for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and with 2 cashiers staffed the wait not long. I stopped in for Beverage mixers so for me the shop was simple, and via the Safeway Mobile application Coca Cola 2ltr had an attractive price of $1.99. I struggled through using the Safeway App for discounts, with it crashing 5 times in the store. We finally get to check out and Syl said since a different phone number was entered she could not use my number connected to all the discounts, and refused to ring us up again to make it work. I really dislike using the word "hate" but when it comes to this Safeway that's sadly the best word to describe my feelings towards it. Customer service here is always the worse. The cashier's other than one man that works here are always grumpy and rude. They throw your receipt at you (Jenny!!!). No sense of good customers service. Whenever I have asked about a product or item they usually are out of stock or they have no idea what I'm asking for. Employees here are not too well educated on their own items/ingredients/produce. How could you not know what gluten free bread is as an employee? Not sure if they neglect this store since it's so small compared to others. As for the deli department goes. So many negative and unsanitary experience have made me never to buy anything from there. The man (not sure if he's the only man working there) is super dirty. Giving people high fives and then turns around and starts slicing your dely meats ‍. Scratching his head with the same gloves he then turns around to slice Cheese. The last day I ever thought of buying anything from there I mentioned to him if he can please change his gloves after his high five he gave a customer and he said his hands were clean and it only touched knuckles ‍‍‍ (I knew asking to wash his hands and replacing his globes would of been too much). So of course I told him I changed my mind on the item I had asked for. It seems like they never have any shopping carts not sure if they have all gotten stolen but you need to walk around the parking lot to try and find one if your purchasing a lot of heavy items. I like going to this Safeway despite the horrible reviews. I like going here because it's usually quiet, has plenty of parking, and has the basic things you might need from Safeway. There's usually always just a short line too at check out so it's a nice Safeway to go to if you want to shop quietly and be in and out. This Safeway is super small compared to other locations and has kind of an older, dinghy feel to it. I was able to get what I needed right away - a small container of donut holes, but I noticed later on when I opened it that they tasted kind of stale, which was disappointing. They don't have self check out kiosks here so even though I literally had one small thing, I had to wait in the one line they had open, behind people who had a regular amount of groceries they were purchasing. I also noticed some shadier characters milling around outside which didn't necessarily make me feel safe as a young female. While fine for a quick run for basics, I'll probably pass on this place as my regular grocery stop. read more

The cashier was great - friendly, nice, quick - but the person helping him bag today....man. Who grunts when you greet them? Who doesn't move when you tell them, it's ok - I'll do it (this is because I know the younger generation doesn't give a sh*t about doing a good job) Who puts chips at the bottom of the bag with cans? not very surprised that this safeway has a low rating in yelp. it's not the cleanest safeway that i've been to, which isn't a big deal for me. definitely one of the biggest thing i look for is customer service and today i experienced such a rude cashier and employee who bagged groceries. i only was able to recall the cashier's name, Tony, but it was on easter around 1-1:30 PM. i was wearing certain shoes that i guess caught both their eyes and they proceeded to make it pretty obvious that they were checking my shoes / jacket hoodie. didn't mind because i don't really care but what topped it off was when the employee bagging looked after i left and signaled Tony to look. love the fact that they yelled "fake" right as i stepped out the door. read more

This safeway needs a remodel. It is the saddest safeway I've been to in the bay area. I understand that a lot of SSF is blue collar, but come on. You guys are charging the same prices as the more upscale safeways (like the one on Gellert), but it still looks like a run down piece of soggy cardboard. P.S Come late at night on weekends to experience some premium ratchetness. I've seen a nerdy guy dressed as a pimp, people arguing with the cashiers, a homeless guy that just wanted to buy a huge block of cheese, and much more that would be far too inappropriate to mention. P.S.S There is an old guy that works as a cashier here that is extremely slow. All the old ladies go to his line because he gives them compliments and the time of day. This place honestly needs to be bulldozed and revamped. The whole inside and outside of the store is crusty and icky. I can never go to this Safeway without some panhandler outside either. The lines are always out of control and it's impossible to navigate inside when it's busy due to limited space. The cashiers always appear to be dead inside and are rarely ever friendly, but the courtesy clerks seem to actually greet you and are nice at the register. This particular Safeway doesn't have a huge selection when it comes to products you want either, probably due to the sheer tiny size of the location. There is no bakery inside either, though they do sell small cake and pie slices, muffins, etc. Overall I wouldn't recommend this Safeway location, but if you have no choice, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. read more

Very small Safeway location compared to the one of Gellert, but it gets the job done. I don't come here too often but I guess it's a good store based on the few times that I've been here. On Christmas eve I went to pick up a meat I had ordered. Couldn't find anyone at the meat counter. I asked the woman at the window next to it and she said push the button. Didn't see a button. Then another person comes by and she was very helpful. She retrieved the meat for me and tried to help me get the discount on my phone. Holy cow what a time machine. While this Safeway isn't modernized like the majority of the Safeways it was a pleasant surprise to see this one. It brought be back to being a child in the 90s. Going to multiple Safeways to shop for graduation flowers and ended up getting it at this store. Looking at the store from the outside, it seem like they do not carry a lot of options, but we decided to take a look either way. Glad that we spent the time and went in. Diana (at the florist department) was nice and very detailed. She took the time to enlighten the flowers I picked with her magics. Got a lot of compliments on the way to my sister's graduation. When, the local Asian market looks better than Safeway it speaks volumes. This is like my local 7-Eleven with an extensive selection. It's no fun shopping in here at all. It's shopping at the grocery store circa late eighties; think bright fluorescent lights and yellowed white vinyl tiled flooring. If you think the Safeway down El Camino towards San Bruno is better. Think again. It is only slightly brighter with a few more amenities. This pathetic, decrepit Safeway has no fresh bakery and has to have their bread delivered from another Safeway. There is no official meat or seafood counter. Freshness is a hit or miss. You have to check the dates. They do have a deli counter with that hot rotisserie chicken, lunch meats, cheeses and other cold stuff. The produce section suffers greatly. There isn't much organic or even selection compared to most other Safeways. Can you believe it? They don't even sell can openers here. The first time I came to this Safeway, I looked around for some disinfectant wipes to use before grabbing my cart. Yup, those don't even exist here. Needless to say, I realized I had some sticky crap on my hands at the check out counter. At least, the checker had paper towels. I love Safeway, but this one sends me to Pacific Market,Trader Joe's and Lucky's. Please, get that overdue face lift needed so badly. This Safeway makes me want to cry. read more

Safeway has never been a cheap grocery store, and they strongly encourage you to sign up for their club card to access their not-so-great deals. Even in the peninsula area, there are much cheaper options around. Even worse is that the price listed in the aisle is incorrect at an unusual frequency. And it's hard to justify getting corrections on the overcharges given that checkout ;lines can get pretty backed up (a consequence of under-staffing - I've never seen Safeway particularly busy). Given how little trust I seem to have for them, I don't think that I can justify shopping at Safeway anymore. The second star is for them seeming to keep a more complete stock of food items than other grocery stores, and the employees are friendly enough. read more

I went to this Safeway Store at 7:30PM and at the entrance, a boy told me I wasn't allowed to bring in the plastic bag I was carrying. I asked if they charge for bags and he said yes, they do. . I returned to the car to put away my bag. All I wanted was some sherbet frozen ice cream but found the freezers void of any except one carton left in the whole section. I will rather take my money and business to a store where they want my business. Many of the other stores let me bring in my bag and use it if I bag my own groceries. NO PROBLEM! I know, as well as many others, that Safeway's groceries are overpriced too. Grocery Outlet, Trader Joes, Lucky Market are better, more reasonable places to spend my money. I really don't see why people complain so much about this Safeway. It's not a complete disaster. Get in, get what you need and get out. There is a small selection but it has all the basics. If you want a super nice, neat organized place then drive down to Trader Joe's. Food expires and fruit molds. its normal, especially if it's out of season or over ripe. I've seen it happen at Albertson's, Lucky's and other supermarkets that are less cramped, more organized and in more affluent neighborhoods like Newport Beach. Syl was amazing! I wanted to get my husband flowers for returning home today after being gone for so long for work. The florists hours are only open until 6 and I had gotten here at 7:45. I found some beautiful flowers that I would've been happy just purchasing but I wanted ribbon to complete the bouquet and I honestly would've bought the ribbon by itself as to not bother anyone. I know everyone is busy and doing their best. Syl came and was going to give me the ribbon and then she said, would you like me to help and make a bouquet for you? I said I would love that and she got to work. It only took her about 10-15 minutes and I came back and this bouquet came out GORGEOUS! She kept saying that it won't look perfect as she isn't a florist. But she did such an amazing job and because of her gracious customer service and all over friendly nature, I had to write about it because she made my evening so happy and bright. She is a very special person and anyone would be lucky to have anyone who cared this much on their team! She even added a second bow on the bouquet for a bigger OOMPH! This location is extremely ghetto and icky. The store is nasty inside, and very closed in and hard to move around. When the store gets busy, the lines go through the aisles due to lack of space in the store. There are never enough cashiers, which I know is not the cashiers' fault, but whoever does the scheduling really needs to schedule more. Same with the deli, always one person working while the line gets longer. The products in the store are decent, but are very limited compared to other grocery stores. Overall, the cashiers are pretty nice, however every time I come here, the cashier named Christina is constantly playing on her phone. Very rude and unprofessional. The last time I visited this Safeway, there was a huge, and I mean HUGE German Shepherd dog running around the whole store off-leash while the owner looked on and laughed like there was no problem. Another younger child who was with the adult owner tried to get control of the dog. The dog kept running inside the store and back in (this was when the store was busy and the lines were long), weaving through customers' legs and just simply out of control. I was shocked how no employee said anything about this. Overall, I do not recommend shopping here. The Safeways on Gellert and the one in Millbrae are so much better and are worth the longer drive. read more

I never liked this Safeway because it is always busy. Not enough cashiers open. But last Sunday I bought soy milk to make muffins for my 1 year old. The day after I made the muffins, I realized the milk had expired in Nov of 2018! Yes, 2018! More than 1 year ago! The milk seriously expired BEFORE my baby was born! How this was still on the shelves??? It didn't look or tasted weird, but of course I can't give the muffins to my baby anymore! I wonder how Safeway organizes their stockroom and shelves. I like this Safeway, I love the deli area. The workers are very helpful. They make some really delicious soups! Tomato bisque, potato, and my favorite the beef stroganoff soup! First time I ever had beef stroganoff as a soup! It's really good. They don't have a really big selection in the international section, and I can't find a lot of things that I would find at luckys. Herbs is one that is always missing. Can never find chives, or dill... The staff is friendly and helpful though so I don't mind at all coming to this Safeway. read more

Decided to stop at this Safeway after going to chase bank. I was vacationing and felt like cooking dinner since the hotel we stayed in had a nice little kitchen. It was my daughters 11th birthday and she wanted a home cooked meal which was perfect. Grabbed everything I needed and as soon as I went to grab a cake, they did not have a bakery. I was shocked. Now, I live in Elk Grove and the stores usually come stocked with a deli and bakery and hot food section. Knowing that I was in San Francisco I guess I had unrealistic expectations since every store here is narrow and quite smaller than most businesses where I'm from. But a bakery...I was saddened. I was hoping to give my daughter a birthday to remember. They did offer a small section ( 1 table) stocked with some goodies, mostly doughnuts and danishes. They did offer two cakes an Oreo cake and red velvet cake. So she picked one and we still followed through with our plans and the cake was delicious. I just thought every Safeway had a bakery. Total disappointment but at least she got her cake. So for that 3 stars it is. read more

My gosh I wonder what all the complaints are about. We went into the Safeway to buy a few things, not a lot, but a few things oh, and I found the store very clean, and someone was right there constantly sweeping the floor making it even cleaner. I went over to vegetables and fruit and the people were so happy that were chatting upgrading and loading the fruit and vegetables onto the shelves, and the ones that were already full were so orderly and appealing. I was happy with the fruit I bought. I then went to buy some cleaning materials and everything was well organized well-stocked well fronted and easy to find. So next you go to the checker Checkers seems happy and polite is checking things out and bagging them up at a normal speed everything was wonderful. And they were polite and engaging as I bought and paid for my small order. I'd come back anytime. Everywhere I go I seem to find Happy People. I like that read more

This Safeway lacks in so many goods it's sad. No Bakery, No "real" deli, weird customer service section (HINT: It looks like a pawn shop in the store). Where's the delicious Safeway Cakes I'm used to? The full service butcher and even a HINT of a seafood section??? I'd totally skip this place and just go to the member's card-less Luckys a ways down El Camino. A story for you kids: I usually shop at Pacific Supermarket, but it's common knowledge that Asian markets are notorious for crappy produce. HOWEVER the day I needed lemons, Pacific Super sold them 5 for $1 compared to Safeway's ONE for $1!!!! You do the math. No Bakery, No basic services, OVERPRICED CITRUS.
