Lunas was a real treat for us. My husband and I went to Lunas for dinner on Friday night and it was delicious. The ambiance of the restuarant was fantastic and the food and service was outstanding. Their mac and cheese was the best I had ever had and it came on a plate with a filet. We had an appetizer of calamari (delicious). The owner, Juan Luna was very attentive and came to talk to us several times and made sure the food and service were great. Very good experience here! Our waiter was extremely nice, very good with service. My mom had the tasting menu, she loved all of it. My sis and I had lobster risotto , it was good but i've had better. I attended a function that Luna's catered. I had not experienced eating at their restaurant before. Was expecting that normal catered food trying to be fancy rather than good. I had 3 slices of the juiciest, tastiest chicken breast (my least favorite part of the bird) Then the side vegetables of cauliflower and broccoli was perfectly steamed. Next came some delightful new potatoes, It was just a great meal, straight up, and not pretending to be anything else!! . I would recommend this place without any reservations. Everything---and I mean EVERYTHING was delicious. We got a variety of appetizers, lunches and desserts (sharing the apps and desserts). Every single item was prepared beautifully, seasoned well, with a lovely presentation. We were able to meet and speak with Juan Luna, the owner, who was extremely gracious and kind. Just can't say enough about this place. Our dinner here last evening was fantastic. I had the scallops over couscous and they were absolutely delicious! Tender, moist and succulent. Husband had the filet mignon also cooked superbly. Server was great and quite helpful with offering recommendations. Can't go wrong with this place. We had my birthday dinner here last year. I sincerely wish I had picked a different restaurant but we were so excited to try Luna's. Even though we had a reservation the place was packed. We sat on the music side and were not allowed to sit and order a drink at the bar. The service was the worst I have ever experienced. Our food took HOURS to come out and when it arrived it was cold. We asked for bread because our party of 8 was starving and we were told that we could not have bread until we ordered dinner! Worst birthday dinner ever. Great appetizers but the entree's need work and no children's menu. Dined with my wife and 3 daughters. We order the calamari and one of the kids got a salad and French onion soup and another got the mussels off the appetizer menu all of which were great. Recently I dined with friends for pleasure and every bite was five star!! The pork chops were yummy!!! Great service all around we were greeted immediately when we walked through the door and decided to sit at the bar for dinner . Had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer it was excellent. Wine choice was nice. Bar tender knowledgeable about wine and dinner menu offering suggestions. Ordered filet and ribeye. Steaks were cooked perfectly and delicious. One complaint is that with the filet, the vegetable side was a Costco frozen vegetable mix. I know because I buy the same bag and had had it for lunch the same day. The green beans (being previously frozen) have distinct rubbery texture. Shocking and really unacceptable for a place like this to serve frozen vegetables. Had creme brûlée and it was ok, nothing outstanding, and the key lime pie was also just ok. Atmosphere was excellent service was super. read more

I have eaten at Luna's several times for work functions and decided to take my wife there last night. We started with the calamari and that was probably the best calamari I have ever eaten. Very clean tasting, lightly breaded, with an excellent accompanying sauce. The only recommendation I would have to make this better would be to add some spice, but that is my personal preference. I know some people don't like the added spice. My wife ordered the ribeye steak that was well cooked, with onion rings and mashed potatoes. She enjoyed most of it and I had the remainder for breakfast. I ordered the jumbo fried shrimp that had the same breading system as the calamari. It was great and it left me with no regrets. My wife ordered the chocolate divine for dessert that was very rich, balanced out very nicely with the ice cream. Service was excellent and attentive. We were seated promptly. It made for a very nice night out. I think this may be my favorite restaurant now. I would have posted pictures of the food, but I always forget. read more

We made a reservation and told the person taking the reservation that we were celebrating our [33rd] anniversary. The vegetables on my plate were cold - except for the potatoes under my steak, which were burned. The waiter disappeared after dropping off the food, so, we weren't able to tell him. I was served a filet that was chewy. My wife's food was on top of a paste they called risotto. They didn't recognize our anniversary. Reservations were at 7 and we were back home by 8:30. Lunas was awesome back when they served emu.... now... in 2015.... it is just another hum-drum bland restaurant in Gainesville..... there is nothing unique in Gainesville anymore. If u just want soft shelled crab... the nearest restaurant is in Alpharetta (Poor Richard's soft shell crab is soogy, so they don't count). That's just sad. Do I need to say more... Wait, but I do..... I may have to recamp my review, because as of May 2015, I just spoke with the owner, Juan Luna, and he is going to special order emu meat and soft shell crab, if he calls me and follows thru with his promise, I'll be changing my rating. Plus, I had to up the star rating because Benny the piano player is so amazing. He usually plays at 7pm on Saturdays about twice a month. He is well worth the wait. read more

My husband and I visited while in town for a wedding. Catherine was our server and was fantastic. The food and ambiance was wonderful. For the price point, the food was delicious and a great serving. Many times we pay for food that doesn't meet the bill either in price or flavor. Delish potato soup with lobster, fried green tomato salad, lamb chops and rib eye that we could not finish. Good martinis and Catherine made a Bloody Mary that is on our list of favorites. If we are in Gainesville we are coming back for sure. Have to get dessert next time. read more

We have eaten lunch here with our dear friend, Deborah, of Moore Wealth Mgmt. in Gainesville. This is my favorite restaurant in Gainesville, ga. and all around. The owner is very nice and concerned that everything is right for his guests. He asks you. He is very likeable, as is the wait staff, and everybody who works here. The rolls are outstanding and they are in the D/R constantly passing them out. The coffee/tea is outstanding as is the food. Everything is awesome!! We love eating here and our dining experience is SUPERB when we go here. Today my husband had the fish special and I love the baby shrimp, potatoes, and fresh veggies. All were awesome, as usual. The potatoes are cooked like we've never had them and they are SUPERB. Be sure to try them. We had the chocolate molten cake/ice cream and the pecan pie/ice cream and it was YUMMY, YUMMY!! Luna's is definitely a five star restaurant. It has the best food, atmosphere and service that our family has ever had, and we have had a lot of experience with restaurants. Basha, one of the waitresses, was so sweet and professional, giving us everything and more. The owner, Juan Luna, gives special treatment to all his customers. We were there for the first time and we felt right at home. My husband and I ate here last night. We drove about 30 minutes into Gainesville after we had read many great reviews, and I agree with those reviewers! This restaurant is fantastic! From beginning with their delicious rolls and olive oil dipping plate and cocktails, through the salad and main course, and onto dessert, the entire meal was divine! My martini was flawless, and that continued through the Caesar salad (best I've ever had), crab cakes (many chunks of whole crabmeat mixed with the perfect flavor and consistency of breading), and the ribeye special for the main course ( steak that melts in your mouth). We finished with an amazing slice of key lime pie, hub's favorite! It is a moderately priced restaurant with outstanding gourmet food. This dinner would have easily cost $120-130 in Atlanta, but was much less and closer to home! Our waitress, Chrissy, was very kind and attentive on a busy Friday. I can't wait to go back!! read more

The wait staff were super nice. I don't remember our waiter's name, but it was a man. I had to work a bit on my laptop and that didn't phase them, etc. and they were super friendly and attentive. Now, I was hungry, so that may have affected my taste buds, but I was all like - OMG, this is the best think I've EVER eaten!! LOL. It was the fish special with coconut rice and mango sauce.
