    Fried Okra

A very cute little place with great food. It is cash only and it says so on the door so you won't be surprised. We walked in and they greeted us with a friendly smile and told us to sit anywhere we liked. There was more seating in the back also. I ordered the 3 Vegetable Plate and chose cornbread as my bread. Deviled Eggs was a choice so I got them, along with mixed greens and fried okra. Everything was really good. The greens were my favorite part of the meal! Delicious! My husband ordered the hamburger steak with grilled onions and peppers, a salad and green beans. He loved everything. The tea was fresh brewed. So good! (We ordered unsweetened so I can't comment on the sweet) We will definitely come back!

Lunch time menu, great ppl, very affordable

Great old school Knoxville place. Home cooked food. Excellent deviled eggs. The four of us ordered meatloaf, BLT, bologna sandwich, and club sandwich. I expected the club sandwich to be cut into triangles; however, it was only cut in half. Perhaps a different chef that day who didn't understand club sandwich protocol, but no problem, the sandwich was tasty. It was a Monday, so perhaps they were having "a Monday" Their meatloaf was scratch made--not from a seasoning packet--and the tomato glaze on the meatloaf was homemade.

    Monster Chicken Legs!

What a great bunch of people who love what they do and make an amazing lunch! The chicken legs are huge and taste great. They have a large selection of down south sides. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a great tasting and filling meal.

Haven't had pastrami in a while so I had to order the Pastrami Reuben and the presentation was great with how it was stacked! Between the sauce and the sauerkraut the flavors were all good and I enjoyed the taste of the pastrami when I found it, but the bread to meat ratio was so high I mostly tasted the burned crust of the bread and very few bites of pastrami. It was one slice of pastrami, not a thin slice but not what you hope for when you bite into true Jewish deli pastrami, which are normally bursting at the seems with meat. Marble rye is hard not to burn and they did a good job for the most part, but I tasted more crust than I did pastrami, and for $18 I wonder if this sandwich was more a charge for the hype. The blintzes were also smaller than one would expect of a blintz but I absolutely loved the compote on top.

After perusing the menu, I decided on a large Chicken Bacon Ranch w/lettuce, tomato, and mayo, accompanied by a bag of chips and a sweet tea. Without a doubt, the fresh-baked bread was the star of the show. It was soft and absolutely delicious. Service was fast and friendly. There's ample indoor and patio seating. You can go through the front or the back and you're greeted when you walk in. It smelled so good walking in. I'm from California so I do not have an accent and I talk fast and literally every single employee turned to look at me when I was talking because as I'm told I stick out like a sore thumb. I ordered a whole Italian sandwich. A half a sandwich is definitely plenty because they cut each half into a half so you're getting four sandwiches. The sandwich was very flavorful and tasty. I also got a large strawberry lemonade. When they handed it to me I laughed and said wow you guys weren't kidding about a large. It was probably about a 32 ounce container. So I would definitely come back!

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

We had heard of this place for a while and wanted to check it out and we're so glad we did. The food and service were amazing. Walking in it's a narrow restaurant, that has a bar on one side and tables on the other with kinda a rustic feel to it. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Since we hadn't been there before we got water and then pursued the menu a little for drinks. I had a question between two drinks and the server was very good at describing the drinks and ultimately decided to try the Darryl Strawberry, while my husband got the Nor'easter. The drinks came out and they were really good. They weren't overly strong, you could taste the bourbon in each of them, but it wasn't overpowering. For food we got the OPA! to start and then the Billy for me and the Mother Clucker for him. The OPA was awesome. It's pan seared feta with honey and served with fresh bread. The honey added a little extra sweetness to the feta which went really nicely with the crusty bread. The Billy had goat cheese, bacon, onions and, a tomato jam on it. It was delicious. The creamy goat cheese with the bacon and smokey tomato jam all went amazingly together. I got onion rings as my side, which were crunchy hot and so so good. The Mother Clucker was also really good. I only had a bite of it to try, but was definitely impressed. My husband upgraded to the duck fat fries which were out of this world. Super crunchy, great flavor. Our server kept checking back on us the whole time making sure we were satisfied with our drinks and food, but we had absolutely no complaints. This is a great place for a date if you want good food or to hang out with friends. We will definitely be back.
