I really wanted this place to be better. Pros: Very sweet and friendly staff. I'd say they all have worked there since the place opened. Just a mom and pops feel. Con: nothing appears to be hand made. I had Philly s cheesesteak which appeared to be made with the frozen steakums and a roll straight out a plastic bag. Fries were also fresh from the freezer. A lot of people are good with this type of food so I hope they continue to serve the community and thrive. I personally can't eat processed foods like that. read more

On the hunt for another good burger, we headed cross town to Jacob's, a wee grill and deli we've passed with interest for several years. With a sign out front claiming to offer " the best burger in town," we finally satisfied our curiosity when we sat down to eat the made-to-order $6 burger ($6.99 with cheese). While I can't say it's the "best burger in town" (since I have a few more places to try on my burger quest), it was mighty good and definitely worth a repeat! Jacob's new owner, Kelly, personally welcomes customers and comes by with refill offers and to ensure diners enjoy their meals. Everything from burgers to deli sandwiches to lasagna, French fries, onion rings, jalapeño poppers and more served up fresh & delicious. This is the type of restaurant that folks talked about 40, 50 years ago. Just a down to earth, homey neighborhood restaurant specializing in burgers, although they do have other menu items and some even on the healthier side. Good service, good value, decent portion sizes... friendly, clean restaurant... I actually had the lasagna, which was pretty good. If I can make one recommendation, it would be to make the side salad that came with the lasagna a bit more interesting. Although for $12 lasagna, small salad, and a nice piece of garlic bread, it was still a very good value. The burger that others were eating at my table looked very good. I am definitely going to be a regular here. I have been a couple times and will be back again. Very good traditional lunch food and not overcrowded or rushed. The service and friendliness of the staff make my day. I feel like the favorite nephew home from college invited to lunch. I have had the burger and the reuben so far and was pleased. But the claim of best in town is a bit of a stretch. I still recommend them but take the signs with a grain of salt. It is a little squishy inside but the feeling of being welcome in someones home makes you not notice. I always leave feeling someone more relaxed and refreshed. read more

I've been wanting to go here for so long but they are only open for lunch. Finally we made it and it did not disappoint! So cozy and nostalgic inside, classic grill/deli menu. We had a grilled ruben, a cheeseburger, a gyro, fries and fried mushrooms, and 3 drinks. In my opinion all 3 sandwiches needed more filling. More pastrami and sauerkraut, it wasn't a big full sammie like I expected. Same with the gyro, which is served in a pita pocket, not a gyro wrap. However, what we did have was very tasty. The best thing we had was the fried mushrooms. They are freshly battered using fresh mushrooms, and the creamy mustard sauce was sooooo good! Overall we will go again. The total was a tad more than I expected, $53, but Im sure prices have had to go up recently, I probably need to adjust my ideas of what lunch for 3 people should be! read more

This is a Knoxvile hidden gem! While we dined, it was like watching a episode of Cheers! The man behind the counter knew everyone by name and most of there regularly orders.. My husband got the Sirloin brisket burger. It was fantastic! Cooked to perfection. It was a classic beautiful burger. The fry's, crinkle cut, I thought were frozen. But no! They were crunchy and pillowy on the inside. I got "Knoxvile's favorite Rubin" it was fabulous! The perfect amount of ingredients. You could taste everything in harmony. If you want a good place to eat ;small but very family friendly, the staff is very nice and friendly. The burgers are great if you like onion rings, those are damn good too and the fries are very good. I however will share the best I can about the ambiance and the nostalgia of my experience. Jacobs is under new ownership, after 47 years Jacob retired, and this was my first visit back to see if the magic was still there! Eating here gives me that warm feeling of past America, where mom and pop shops were common, and you knew the person cooking and serving your food. A sense of connection and community a feeling of all is good. Places like Jacobs are becoming relics of the past, the good past. If you're looking for fast food and just being a number don't go here the past can be too friendly for our hectic schedules. The prices are what you would expect for homemade food and great service. I took my parents here one late afternoon basically because their last name is Jacobs and I thought it would be cool. It's a quaint little place located in what I would call an industrial area. Parking available in the front and back of the restaurant. Order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. Very friendly and helpful staff, one of the guys one his break held the door open for us. My parents got the burgers and they loved them! Juicy and delicious! This is a great hole-in-the-wall joint in Knoxville. It's right off of a pretty busy road (Middlebrook Pike), but it's sort off the beaten path compared to other eateries in town. I pass it every day on my way to work and decided I had to try it out. The staff is amazing! They are genuinely happy to be there and make the experience great for every patron. I told them it as my first time trying it, and they talked me through the menu and options. The burgers really are delicious, which is good since their sign says it's the best in town (I'm not ready to agree just yet, but it was definitely in the top 3 I've had in Knoxville). They have lots of good choices and daily specials. It is al a carte dining, so know that your bill will add up quickly for things you add, but it's still reasonable. I had a 6oz cheeseburger, fries, and a fountain soda for a little more than $14. It wasn't a bad price for a good solid meal and quality experience, in my opinion. It is a cook to order place, so know it will take more time than a chain that is constantly pumping out mostly pre-made food. They gave us to go menus and said we could call our order in ahead of time if we wanted to in the future, and it would be ready us when we sat down. That's excellent service! That's Jacob's. You have to already like this kind of place to really appreciate it. It's simple, unremarkable, almost insanely hard to notice on the outside. It's a typical diner inside with inexpensive wood chairs and plain white tile floors, but it's very clean, and the people are extremely nice. The food is great.
