Not to be confused with the grocery store that it shares a parking lot with, the wine and sports store is a separate building par of Lunds and Byerlys. I am impressed with the offerings as they packed a lot of solid staples into the first floor of the building.

The patio area is actually lovely here (aside from the big parking lot view).

Good on you, Lunds. It's really something in here. The first thing you notice is that they put plenty of free parking downtown (what is this wizardry?!). And the second thing is that the outdoor seating (where you can eat your grab 'n' go lunch) is really nice. The third thing is that the selection of beer kicks ass. I went straight for the build-your-own 6-pack section and luckily the super knowledgable Tabetha was there to answer just about every question I had about everything. I think we chatted about beer for a straight 15 minutes and she recommended some amazing things that I'll have to file away in my brain for later since they couldn't all fit into my 6-pack. I didn't broach the wine, so I can't comment on that yet, but the liquor section has the three main things I want in a liquor selection: Bulleit Bourbon, Prairie Organic Vodka and Death's Door Gin. Woo.

Now run by third-generation owners, it expanded to retailing fine wine and cheeses as well. I stopped in to buy some house gifts, and was pleasantly surprised by its very large selection of products, displayed in a way that it was enjoyable to do some 'window shopping'. In my case, I focused on the whiskey's and found what I was hoping for (from the Nikka distillery, a place I had visited a long time ago). But surprisingly it carried American made whiskey (in this case, from the Seattle area) for a price that was lower than what I had paid when actually visiting the distillery itself. I took the time to walk around a bit, noticing that they had an entire section devoted to just German and Austria wines. (Would have been shocked to find wines from Luxembourg, which is on my list). There were also a large beer refrigerated room, as big as any I've seen at big retailers. Of course, it had the beers from the Midwest that are hard to find where I live now (Leinenkugel, Hamm's, and Zywiec). Also noticed a small display of cigars, protected behind locked glass. Ended up getting two Westland Single Malt 750ml for $56.99 each. Checkout was identical to any large liquor store chain (like a grocery store checkout with employees who do checkout and are not really knowledgeable about the products sold).

They have some of the best iced lattes I have tried in the twin cities! I typically get an iced miel and it is always made perfectly here. Pricing is very reasonable for the area. All of the pastries have always been delicious as well. A quick, easy spot to get coffee that you wouldn't immediately think about.

That's less than 1/2 price of any other retailer's sale price. I thought it was an error in the email, so I phoned the store to see if the price was correct and if there was enough inventory to cover the day's business, so there would be some when I got to the store the next day. The woman said there were several cases at the head of the store, but to be safe I should go to the store's website and place and pay for my order, which I did do. When I went for pick-up, I looked around and spent an additionally substantial chunk of change on other sale spirits, including Balvenie Caribbean Cask Scotch. I had a chance to chat with one of the staff and said I was surprised to see on Yelp that there were some negative reviews of store staff manners. He said ownership of the store has changed since those negative reviews and that the current owner stresses customer appreciation.
