I have been at other Lupe Tortilla locations and have to admit this was my least favorite. I have to say our waiter was very helpful. However, the food was subpar. It is difficult to explain why, but it seems that our food was sitting in the kitchen for a while before coming to our table. If you have a big party, I would suggest going somewhere else. My sister in law made reservations for a party of 14 that was made a few days in advance. When we all met at the restaurant, our party was split in two different tables, so forget enjoying quality time with family and friends because you will be separated. read more

The chips and salsa and beans are good. I ordered the lunch menu tamales which I wasn't very impressed with. They just weren't as flavorful or big as ones I've had at other places. My sister got the spicy enchiladas, and that I loved. I heard their fajitas are deliciously tender so I might try those if I go back. The waiter was very friendly, and I like how they seem to highly value customer service. Im visiting from ga and my aunt and uncle took me here and all I can say is the best Mexican food ever! I got the bed fajitas and they just melted in my mouth. Some of the peices were charred and those were the best ones. I cannot describe how good they were in words. The tortillas were homemade but not like the flour ones but almost see through. So good!!! To drink I got a silver patron margarita on the rocks with the salt. Fresh squeezed lime juice not that sweet fake stuff. You get a glass of ice with salt and you pour in the margarita in you own time so it doesn't get watered down. If you need a place to go to get good Mexican this is it!!!!! read more

The quality depends a lot on which location you go to, I have had nothing but 100% wonderful experience with the Original location on Stafford and the locations at Grad Parkway and in Webster. I have have had less than stellar experiences at the location off of North 45 and 290. The food is predictably delicious, I love their take on the chips and dips. The service at my go to locations in Katy and at Stafford is excellent I can't remember not chatting with the manager and appreciate always having pleasant staff. There were some tough times after the CCOVID lockdowns getting all their cylinders fired in order but that has all been worked through now to the best of my experience. The atmosphere and ambience are always bustling, fun and whimsically "which side of the Rio Grand border and I on?" With friendly staff good drinks and the fajitas being outstanding, its hard not to spend every night at Lupe Tortilla's. read more

If you are a women and like getting treated like lesser then and being disrespected by men bartenders and male managers, go to Lupe Tortilla off 99 in Katy. You won't leave disappointed. We have loved original one off highway 6 for years but this one just gets worse and worse. But as the manager told me today, "drive thru the drive thru left over in the back from COVID. Your fajitas might come out hot there". Speaking from experience they don't. Love the restaurants food but go to any location besides the grand parkway Katy one. read more

While the food here is average, the play area is very fun for the kiddos. It's nice to sit on the deck while the kids get dirty in the sand (not so fun afterwards when it's time to put them in the car). My only complaint is that they have a tiny little water pump outside that the kids can use to wash off their hands and feet. My daughter practically has to lay on her belly to wash her hands in it, since it's so low. Out of respect for the restaurant, I don't want to trek her sandy body through the dining area to wash her off in the restroom, but it is what I'll do before I get my car messy again. Horrible service, waited 15 mins for our server to greet us and after that another 30 mins for our food all so it could be burnt

After moving to Katy this spring, we've been here four times in the last month or so, and every visit has been excellent. Our visits have been at different times, different days. One was during an extremely busy evening, another was the last part of the lunch rush (both of those had a packed house), the next was a fairly empty time, and today was an early Sunday dinner before the big rush. Every time, we had great service -- the servers were attentive, friendly, helpful, and they checked back often to refill our drinks and chips and to see that we were happy and had what we needed. I would also like to note that I and my son both have a dairy allergy. Those with allergies know how tough it can be to eat out. The first hurdle can be finding a place that even cares and doesn't treat the customer like a hassle. Every server has been great to double check that our orders are dairy-free and no one has had any kind of negative attitude at all. We feel very welcome and like they are happy to accommodate -- that's not always so at other restaurants. As for the food, our family of five loves the food here. My current favorite is the portobello mushroom fajita wraps. So delicious! My younger son loves the "big sucker" fajita beef burrito, and other family favorites include the "steak lupe", the steak fajitas, and the green "cheekin" enchiladas. I can't try the cheese queso myself but the guys tell me it's good. My son and I get the guacamole instead and love it. The chips are light, crispy, warm and fresh. They make a very interesting "cilantro avocado sauce" that's delicious but too spicy hot for me, though perfect for my husband. And last but not least, the margaritas! The last few times we had the house margarita (on the rocks, salted rim) and I really love these. I am one who prefers good flavor rather than caring about the alcohol strength, and these are perfect for me. Tastes delicious and light on the alcohol. Today, my husband and I both had the "platinum margarita" and enjoyed these too. I think I prefer the lighter house margarita, but my husband equally enjoyed both. We will probably slowly try each variation and decide on favorites since this place has become our favorite restaurant in this area. For those with very young children, there's outdoor seating next to a shaded sandlot with these riding car slide things. We are way beyond this stage of life (our oldest is 20), but I would have enjoyed having a place like this when they were younger. It seems to be very popular. We will surely be back again here soon! read more

I honestly have no clue how this place stays in business considering they over cook the beef fajitas every time I have ever been there (over a dozen times). Food is generally good but it irks me that they keep telling you how to much they want you to tip. Isn't that discretionary? We do a large take out order of fajitas which are quite pricy by the pound so it costs around $200 for our family of 5. A 10% as they keep asking for would be $20. That's kind of unnecessary for a take out order that isn't overly complicated, that I call to order, and drive myself to pick up. I think at least? I am not a stiff tipper and generously tip for dine in since a our waiter/waitress would actually "wait on us" for at least an hour of service, filling drinks/water, checking on us, taking requests, etc. However $20 to fill up some to-go containers and answer the phone is just where I draw the line. If they desperately need some more money for takeout orders, they should build it into their to go pricing model or add a fair take out charge. I hate their pressured tipping model and am thinking to find another place to get fajitas. read more

So, let me start by saying we LOVE Lupe Tortilla! We eat at the Austin Westlake location regularly. We have also eaten at the Houston Memorial location several times. Always good food, always great service. Yesterday, however, we ate at this new location in Katy and it was pretty awful. Yes it was Friday at 6:30pm so we expected a crowd and a wait. However, the extreme heat INSIDE the restaurant and the smell of sweaty locker room that radiated throughout each room of this small ridiculously over crowded restaurant was unbearable. We waited for 45 min for our table after a long 7 hour drive from Baton Rouge because we were CRAVING the filet mignon fajitas. At one point, I found the GM and asked about the A/C and he said it was hot because the doors both at the front and back by the bathrooms are opening and closing repeatedly. It's early JUNE in TEXAS...it's only going to get HOTTER...the insulation in the restaurant has serious issues if it's already a sweaty hot box now! He also told me the thermostat was set on 70 as if that was cold? The air coming out of the vents was maybe 75 degrees. Apparently the owner of the great location in Memorial and this new are the same, but this is a newer building...the AC can't keep up with the demand. After we were seated we looked at the menu (which we usually don't do cause we always get the same thing) only to find out they don't have FILET MIGNON fajitas at this location!!!!!! WTF!?!? Our server, Rogelio, was outstanding! Bless his heart, he was sweating profusely but never stopped smiling and actually brought us out the regular beef fajita (sample bites) from the kitchen when we were visibly disappointed the filet wasn't an option. The meal was very good as usual and the cold margs were amazing...but we won't go to this location again.... read more

The plate came out and it was 95% rice and beans. I measured and the tamales were 2.5 inches long! What is that?! It looked like they ran out of tamale wraps and used a cut up tortilla. Overall this Lupe has fantastic tasting food but please be advised if your in any rush this is the last place you want to eat. Let me start by saying the fajitas here are INSANELY good. Tons of flavor without compromising on the quality of the ingredients. I've eaten at this Lupe Ts for a while now and don't think that just because I highlighted the fajitas that it's the only good thing there because that is far from true. Truth be told I haven't had a bad thing on the menu. On the food alone this place is 5 stars all the way. Now the down sides. Make no mistake this is not the place you want to come for a quick meal. The service is great but the speed at which the meal makes it to your plate can be longer than normal/expected. At first I simply thought it was a staff based issue but after experiencing the same thing with multiple different servers I finally had to ask what took so long to get the food out after ordering. His answer was simple and most of all made sense given how good the food is. He said point blank that everything they do there is for quality which means fresh ingredients from start to finish. They try to get things out as quick as possible but their ultimate goal is that you leave feeling like the food you ate was the best in town. From the taste of the food his response was spot on. Looking for some great Mexican food then look no further...just be sure to set aside some time in your day. read more

The servers here are very cheerful and enthusiastic in their job, which makes coming here a delight. Food is good, especially the enchiladas and fajitas. The space is a little congested (in the Katy location, at least) which might be a bit problematic for claustrophobics, but they do have a nice kids play area for those patrons with kids. Today I witnessed the most disgusting thing. An obviously autistic child was having an episode and the parents were trying to calm her down. The manager went on more than once occasion to try and tell the child directly to lower her voice and calm down. Not shortly after that did other customers ask the child to leave and then everyone looked on as they dragged the child away. The mother apologized profusely, and the rest of the customers just kept going on and on about how inappropriate it was. As a caretaker of an austistic child.. I was at a loss for words. I got up and left alongside my family... the manager came up to us and ask us why we were leaving. We left because of YOU. Not the child! My sister and I went there last Sunday, and we were horribly disappointed. First we got sat at a table with no light, when I asked about it I was just told sorry it's broken. Then they brought salsa and beans to the table, and when I asked about the beans and if they were supposed to come to my table, I got nothing but a shrug. Ok for the past year or so we have been going to Lupe's on grand parkway in Katy at least once a week. Sometimes more. But 5 weeks ago we met a few others there and we had several large $13 skinny margs. I never felt a thing but thought well I ate dinner and chips so maybe I'm getting immune to the effects. Dang it. I talk to the others the next day and we all agreed they must have forgotten to put the tequila in the mix. So the next week we went to Chey's. And had a great time. And. I felt those Two drinks.. the next week we went to Los Cuco's and again could taste the tequila and felt them. The last two weeks we have gone to Abuelo's and that place is great!!!! So tonight Norm and I both worked late so I suggested going back to Lupe's cause we missed the guys there. Big mistake. I ordered a large skinny marg and had the bright idea to mention to the waitress that I would like her to make sure it had Tequila in it because I was pretty sure it didn't the last time. I never asked for anything that night or tonight to make up for it. She had the manager come over to talk to me. So I told him what had happened the last time we were there and he preceded to tell me that it was a mix. And that he personally mixed it everyday. So me and my smart mouth I told him he didn't do a very good job of it that night. So he told me that they had been mixing it the same way for 30 years. I did not say to him that was absolutely not true because skinny margs have only been around the last few years. Then he told me that they use fresh limes and sometimes they will change the flavor. I informed him that I was a marg drinker and that was a first i heard that limes would remove all the flavor of tequila and the feeling as well. He continued to make excuses so I told him that was enough to just turn around and walk away. Ok so that was a bit degrading but I did not raise my voice or cuss at him or tell him what I wanted to say. Better that he just walk away. He did. My drink came with salt after I had told her no salt, it took almost 5 min to get the fresh glass because she had to deliver the food to the table next to us first. it was just like the last time so I tried Norms frozen which I could even smell the tequila as well as taste it. Norm tasted mine and said it didn't have any tequila. So when she came back to the table I told her to bring me a shot of tequila so it would taste like a margarita. I even said no salt or lime just the shot. She finally came back with a full marg. I asked her why and she said I ordered it. I said no I ordered a shot of tequila. I have had enough just bring me the bill. She said yes. Awhile later the security guard came over to the table and asked if there was s problem. I tried to tell him what was going on and he said that it was a family Restaraunt and that I had been belligerent to the staff and it was better that I leave. I told him that was exactly what I was trying to do when I asked her for the bill. Then he went and got the bill took our money and stayed with us till we walked out. Unbelievable. I never raised my voice. I never said one curse word. And that is a miracle. I had boycotted Lupe's for over 20 years and just last year went back.
