I am a total LUSH junkie. With that said, these ladies here are so super friendly, nice, and helpful which makes coming here even more of a joy than it already would be just for the lovely products. Yes, I can't say I love every single item here, but when I did make a return they did it with a smile and gave me samples of something else they thought I'd enjoy. Some of my favorites? I absolutely love Lush. I've been going to this store for about 2 years now. I get all our family's shampoo, conditioner, soups, bubble bath, lotion, and so on from this place. I've even gotten into some of the retro stuff that you can only get online because the scents are amazing. The company has great ethics and their stuff is handmade by real people who's pictures are on the products. They have a wide range of scents and so I can get things for all of my moods and my (teenaged) son can too! They have an amazing return policy so anything that I'm not excited about I can return even a month or more later. So I feel good about exploring new products because I know i can always bring them back if I don't like them. So when my hair is behaving badly or my son has a break out, I just try whatever the staff suggests. The products are really aimed at people who care about the earth and don't want to use tons of chemicals in their products. They have vegan products as well. But the real reason I keep going back to this store rather than shop on line is: the staff. I just love them. They are warm, friendly, helpful caring people who are knowledgable and enthusiastic about their products. The current manager Chelsea is a suburb human being and has been outstandingly helpful (though I will miss Derik who's now gone to Union Square, because having a guy in the store made my son more comfy and Derik's a rockstar). I can always ask questions and try anything in the store so returns are few because I know before I leave if I'll like it. I have tried other stores and this one wins hands down. Love this little spot! It is actually the largest lush I have been to, I'm not sure why I am seeing posts saying that it's small (way larger than Pleasanton). I love getting the cupcake face mask. It's reasonably priced and great to calm breakouts. If I really want to treat myself, I will go with African Paradise. My daughter loves the robot bath bombs as a special treat. My 1st Lush experience was an online purchase of their Charity Pot lotion to benefit the Sea Shepard organizations' move to stop the Canadian Seal Hunt. And oh my, do I love this cream! It's great and there is a ton of it! Should last me quite awhile. The 2nd time around I went to the actual store. The lady that helped me was SUPER nice!! I told her I was looking for an all natural face cleanser for my b/f b/c he's got a skin allergy and every face wash he's used lately has been giving him some sort of outbreak on his hands. I didn't know at the time that you can purchase as much or as little of a product as you want - they literally chop it off a block for you! Neat-O! So I bought him a $5 bar of a Coleface - a charcoal based face wash that has a light exfoliate in it and the nice and very knowledgeable lady also gave me a free sample of another face wash for him to try out. For myself I picked up a small jar of their Ocean Salt body scrub, the pretty blue color is what drew me to it! Conclusion: I'm happy to report that the boy is loving the Coalface bar and I'm totally digging the Ocean Salt scrub! We'll definitely be going back...or at least I will, he'll probably wait outside ;) read more

Ok I love lush but am not as fond of the workers. I had every-single worker in the store come up to me and my boyfriend and ask if we need help. AND WE WERENT EVEN IN THERE FOR 10 MINUTES. They kept staring at us and when all of them had individually came up to us and asked us if we needed help, they rotated again and then all of them came up to us individually a SECOND TIME. like i said we were in there for about 10 minutes maybe less. hounding customers doesn't make them more comfortable, if anything it makes them more uncomfortable and want to leave, like i did. read more

I love this store. Their products are incredible, they're always willing to give you samples so you can see if something works for your skin before buying it, and the employees are super nice. I visit this store far too often for my own good, both to stock up on bath bombs & bubble bars that I repurchase over and over, and to try new things & limited edition holiday items. Jasmine often helps me and she couldn't be friendlier or more helpful! My top recommendations: Pop in the Bath bubble bar, Twilight bath bomb, and Sunnyside bubble bar with any deep colored bath bomb (Big Blue, etc.). I came down here today during my work hours because I was in a rush to pick up a gift for my nieces. I checked the hours online before coming in and yet to my surprise when I got there at 10:30am this morning (30mins after their posted opening time) the store was completely shut down, dark, with not a soul inside. Two employees were sitting outside on a bench. They made a couple calls but honestly seemed to be having more fun relaxing outside than actually doing anything to get the store open. The girl that made the calls claimed she did not have a key and couldn't get a hold of anyone. For me, that is really unacceptable and a laughable way to do business. Even in an emergency there is no reason for the store to be delayed in opening by well over an hour (I left at almost 11:30am and the place was still not open). I've worked in customer service for many years and there's no way the stores I've worked for would not find a way to be open at their stated time. I can understand a delay of 10 or even 20mins but an hour and a half is totally unacceptable! Now I've wasted my time (and money) as I took time off from my job to come down here. I'm annoyed to have had to waste gas and paid for parking (only $2 but still unacceptable) just because this particular Lush could not get their act together. I love Lush but it is very unlikely I'll be returning to this particular store after this. Very unprofessional. read more

My sister got me hooked on Lush, so I was pretty excited when this store opened in my hood. The smells can be overwhelming. Take your time, ask for samples and don't be persuaded by the overenthusiastic staff are both very helpful and sometimes a little too persistent. Sometimes the descriptions of the smells don't match the actual scent. Sometimes a product will smell different once you get home, and different batches of a single product vary. That said, this is some good stuff, if a bit pricey. I wish the shampoos didn't contain parabens or sodium lauryl sulphate, but the majority of the ingredients are impressive. The manager and staff do work really hard to give you great service, and I highly recommend you hit the post Christmas sale to clean up on soap. read more

This is my first and only stop for cosmetics. The staff is super nice and incredibly helpful. They're always up to engage you in conversation to actually figure out what you need instead of trying to sell you random crap, which is usually the case whenever I go to Sephora. I am absolutely obsessed with their facial masks and its awesome to know what ingredients are going onto your skin. One of the guys who works at this store actually helped me complete my New Years resolution of quitting picking my cuticles by recommending the Lemony Butter! I love this place! You can get soaps cut down to your price level. Sometimes the ladies are overly helpful, but are polite if you say you're just looking. Everyone is super nice, and very professional. They also love my dog when I bring her in on occasion. I love this store, and the women who work here are FANTASTIC! My service here was very underwhelming and insulting even. 2 stars for the great product I got that are working for my needs instead of 1 star for the staff that made me feel rushed and made very backhanded comments to me. I've been to the Lush at Roseville Galleria, Sac's Arden Faire, and at London's Liverpool station. I walked in a little after 7:30pm and was not greeted by anyone. I understand staff were all busy helping customers and near closing time. I browsed for a bit then someone came to help me with masks I was inquiring about. They set me up with a 2nd staff member to try a couple masks. While waiting for those to do their thing I continued browsing the haircare. I was passed onto a 3rd staff that helped me for the rest of my time there. They gave me info about their haircare and basically all of the facial care products I inquired about. They got a lot of new items since I was last there. I am familiar with Lush and their in store experience so I freely try the facial scrub suggested to me for my troubled skin and the staff helping me commented how "eager" I was to do so. I try to think nothing of it but come on now....yall are closing and I want to make sure I get the right product for my skin issues at the moment. I finally decided what I am going to get at around 8:15 just as they were done ringing up the 2nd to last customer of the night. Just after, a senior staff member ( I assume) that originally helped me told the staff currently helping me to basically get me to finish up as they are 15mins pass closing time. As we headed to the register, I ask for a sample of this hair product I looked at earlier and the woman that originally helped me went to get it. While preparing my sample she made comments to me about how expensive it was and how $1 worth goes a long way. They seem like very backhand comments. I understand yall were closed but no one gave ppl in the store warnings to let us know it was near closing and to get our products ready to check out. Also considering how it took a moment for me to get the right information I needed from busy staff members to make the right decisions. When I finally got help I felt like I was being hounded to make a decision even though there was a delay in getting the info I was looking for. It didnt help that after I left I walked by The Body Shop which still had their doors open with ppl browsing. I decided to stop in there and was greeted. When I later inquired about products and store hours they informed they closed at 8 but were still very helpful and welcoming. read more

I love Lush too much for my own good. I'm here at least twice a month. The ladies who work here are always super sweet and informative. I even asked one of the women working here about her hair color routine for dyed grey hair and she was happy to let me in on her secrets. Super nice!! When I first started coming here they were a little pushy about getting me to try things I wasn't really interested in, but that's how Lush rolls. This is not really a problem for me here anymore. I'm not sure if their employees have toned it down or if they recognize me as a regular who knows what she wants. The coffee scrub is my new favorite thing ever. Lately my skin has been dry and I've been really really wanting to try another mask from lush that can help my skin out. I love how their masks are all made fresh and no chemicals! All natural ingredients which I love because my face is so sensitive. The staff is so friendly which is great because now a days it's difficult to great genuine service in stores because they're either busy or don't want to help but NOT this store! This girl with blue awesome hair helped me out. Told her what I was looking for and she pointed out the Oatifix. Another girl came over and told me about the product! MY NAME IS HEATHER AND I AM ADDICTED TO...... TO LUSH PRODUCTS!! I've heard a lot about their soaps through makeup gurus on YouTube and never knew Lush had stores in the bay area. As I was walking, I caught a glimpse of the sign "LUSH." Something came over me and before I knew it, I was standing inside. BENEFITS SELL When I walked in I was greeted by the beautiful smiling staff. A young and bubbly young lady (I wish I knew her name) came over to ask me if I was looking for anything in particular. She talked to me about some of the other products they carried, I had no idea they made products for multiple concerns for hair and skin. She showed and demonstrated on me various products that she thought would benefit me after telling her my concerns. Not only did she demonstrate the products on me but she explained which each product does and how it would beneficial to me, now that's how you sell! She did NOT push me to buy a ton of products but instead gave me samples of products that I tried but did not purchase, to see if I change my mind about purchasing it in the future. CONCLUSION I'm loving the shampoo & conditioner kit and body lotion I purchased, the products smell great and most importantly they work great. Though I won't be in the East Bay anymore, I hear they have a store in SF so I'll be going there to fulfill my LUSH addiction. read more

Oooh I love it when people tell me that my hair stinks. : | So alright. The shampoos/conditioners here are *not* your typical shampoos/conditioners. What do I mean by that? Well I mean that...they freaking stink. And they're weird looking. Like...they do not smell good. Unless by good you mean bad, then yes, I guess they smell good. Following me? I believe the first thing my boyfriend, brother, and mom said about the new scent I picked out was "....that hella stinks, " followed by "oh God, wtf?" and then "...Why? Why would a conditioner ever smell like that??" respectively. So the consensus is: my hair stinks now. YES. Just what I always wanted... This stuff doesn't have your Herbal Essences, Thermasilk, Bath and Body works kinda smell to it. None, whatsoever. So why am I giving this place 4 stars? Well first, the customer service is amazing. The lady was nice enough to rub all different kinds of stinky shampoo on herself to make a sale. She was all enthusiastic saying things like, "doesn't this smell AMAZING???" and "this is my ABSOLUTE favorite." It was fascinating to watch her get all excited about her products. I find, "you'll get used to the smell" an interesting comment to be made during the sale of hair products but...I digress. I think the Sales Associate could tell I wasn't feelin most of the hair products, so she didn't push too hard, which was nice! I ended up getting the Retread conditioner though because it didn't smell nearly as bad - but clearly still significantly bad - as the others. And ya know, I think the lady was right. The smell does start to "grow on you" after a while! And it makes my hair super smooth. After a few weeks of use, the smell doesn't make me cringe anymore either! Success! I guess...? Also, for those that have really dry lips, I definitely suggest Lush's lip balm called Lite Lip. It's a little expensive - $10 for a teeny tiny tin the diameter of a quarter, and 1cm deep - but all you need is a little bit at a time and it REALLY works. Better than Burt's Bees, better than Vaseline...its great. I definitely recommend going into the Bay Street store if you're new to Lush because the descriptions of the Shampoos and Conditioners may be very, very different than you'd expect. I don't recommend buying online because you should really smell things out for yourself. I've heard the bath salts and scrubs are excellent but I haven't tried those yet. Some word to the wise (if you shop at Lush you are a smart cookie already), don't go on Wednesdays expecting fresh face masks like I did once. They get a fresh shipment in every Thursday, so try to make it over there before the week begins so you can get the most out our their fresh masks made from ingredients that expire. I have been having a love affair with Lush since August 2009, depending on American Dream conditioner, Coal Face cleanser, and Cupcake mask to maintain my natural beauty for almost two years. I have been to all the bay area locations, yet I have found that the customer service is always upbeat and mostly cheery-- not every staff member is as helpful and patient as this staff. I have made it in to this location at least 4 times, learning something new about the products that I have yet to know. Once I went in there to get masks on a Wednesday, with their stock almost depleted . They asked me which I've tried and how i use it. I have been letting the mask on for too long, letting it dry for more than 8-10 minutes makes the mask lose its fresh enzymes, which is what is the main purpose of the mask. One of the other staff members was nice enough to hook it up with a free tub of Cupcake that they marked out because it was expiring soon. I used that thing up with fab results. I was impressed with the knowledge that they shared with me, which alerted me that some of other locations expect you to know this stuff-- I was once told to keep the mask on for as long as I could stand it which is total misinformation according to this staff. The staff at Bay Street are honest about the products, when I told a friend that a certain bar soap was drying to my skin , a staff member heard me and didn't correct me but half agreed with me saying that the more translucent the soap the less moisturizing it is , saying that creamy looking soaps like Honey I Washed the Kids and Rock Star are more moisturizing. That kind of honesty makes me feel like I can trust the staff here to give me the real scoop. Some other outstanding moments at Lush was when they were out of the large bottle of American Cream Conditioner they offered me two medium bottles for the same price as a large bottle, which was pretty awesome. Another outstanding moment at Lush was when my friend Celestica, a newbie to Lush, was shown around by staff members to every area of the store, showing her the bath bombs, the shower jellies, the masks, the shampoos, the bar soaps, the massage bars, the moisturizers, the conditioners, the hair masks, the foot cream, the dusting powders without skipping a beat. You couldn't slap the smile of Celestica's glowing face, she said it made her day -- then she said it made her weekend. She is now a Lush lover like me. Now after being reintroduced to bath bombs with Celestica , watching the Dragon's Egg fizz up something gorgeous in a glass bowl, I'm hooked and have to get one every time I visit. The complementary samples are great and really help me find what works best for me at Lush. I love the size of the store because it's less crowded than most, which really adds to the shopping experience. read more

Everything is great and wonderful when you are buying items. The LUSH employees will roll out the red carpet, let you sample everything in the store but Lord help you if you need to return an item. All the bells and whistles STOP. I had to return some items today. Everything in the store is not for everybody so I returned what wasnt good for my skin. I was forced to give a detailed explanation about WHY I wanted to return it. Me saying the product didnt work for me wasnt enough, the employee wanted specifics. Then tried to get me to keep the items and/or exchange for something else. I eventually returned everything I needed to but I had to be interrogated to do it. And the registers being so close together, this was occuring as other customers were buying. Embarrassed and humiliated. Never going back! read more

This place is fantastic, there is a huge assortment of organic products that will make your head spin. It is difficult even to choose a few bath bombs because each of them has its own unique fragrance and you will want to buy all of them. The soaps and shampoos also smell great! I came to this store to buy a couple of gifts and ended up buying quite a few things for my self-it was totally worth it. The customer service was fantastic and I am now coming back to get more soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and bath bombs. If you are looking to try some great products,look no further. I decided to give LUSH one more try since my horrible experience at the Powell store. I work fairly close to this particular LUSH store so I walked there before work and planned to buy my girlfriend a nice gift. I walk in and was greeted, which is an improvement from what happened in the SF store. I walked to the back to look at the assorted bath bombs and had a bit trouble picking the right one for my girlfriend. I stood back there for 15-20 minutes confused and no one bothered to come up and asked if I needed help. My thing is, I really don't mind spending money on overpriced items. All I ask for is for some acknowledgment that I am a customer. I ended up choosing one without the help of anyone and was only acknowledged as soon as the sales associates saw I was in line waiting to make a purchase. "Thank's for waiting, someone will be right with you." I was told this twice by both sales associates. The only reason why I went through with purchasing something from that store was because I told my girlfriend that I will have her bath bomb when I got home from work. I don't know why the customer service has been so poor recently at the stores. Does my appearance reflect a young kid who doesn't buy anything at the store? Because I honestly think associates need to treat every customer the same because I do look a bit young and like I might not buy anything but I come in the stores with pockets full of cash and decide that I won't return because of how I was treated in the store. read more

They will not accept 3rd party gift cards ! (GCs that aren't bought directly from them) Which I very much stated when I came in that I had to one sales associate, who told me nothing of the policy. So I carried on with my shopping, almost $200 worth of product I had up on the counter only to be turned away by a different sales associate. I felt like a struggling college student who had just waited in line for 20 minutes in a jam packed Chipotle only to have their card decline. She told me that if they did not come from them directly that they are most likely fake... Um OK. The rule is so silly, I ended up ordering off of the web site, my package will arrive today... Had I reviewed this store after my first visit 11 days ago, I would've given 5 stars. The 2 sales clerks were both extremely attentive, friendly, informative and helpful. I bought the one product I came in for (Lemon Flutter creme) and a few more I hadn't planned on (including Angels on Bare Skin which is now my most favorite product ever -- it has made my face soft as a baby's butt in just a matter of days. really!) I also received several samples; the store employee was very gracious and offered me samples of anything I wanted to try; she made me feel like it was OK to actually ask for samples. So, a week goes by and I visit the store again 2 days ago to procure full size products of a couple of the samples I received. I was looking forward to going back to the store. This time, however, my experience there was 1 star at best. There was one clerk only (the second one disappeared as soon as I walked in), and she was waiting on someone with the hugest order ever .... not huge dollar-wise, but huge labor-wise. This customer had the clerk cut up a gazillion soaps for her, then individually wrap them, then do several gift wraps of sets of them. I literally stood there for 15 minutes or more while the customer and the clerk interacted. Finally it was my turn, and I put my $150 worth of product on the counter and asked for a couple of samples as well. Getting samples from this clerk was like pulling teeth. She went to the back and brought me one sample, winked at me like she was doing me a favor, and I was just flabbergasted. I then additionally asked for a couple of samples of a soap for some friends -- I was buying a huge bar of it myself and I wanted to share it with others. She gave me the tiniest of slivers; these samples will only last for 2 hand washings at most! Contrast this with my first experience where my friend and I were smelling the soaps and saying which ones we liked, and the store clerk made us samples without us even asking! I really felt abused, or at the very least extremely unappreciated, by the clerk on my second visit. If that had been my first experience with Lush it also would've been my last. So I am giving this 3 stars, averaging out the experience of my 2 visits. I will definitely go back again and give the store another chance ... I don't know if my experience on my 2nd trip was atypical or not. However, if I see that same sales clerk on my next visit, I will turn around and walk out. My experience with her was 180-degrees from my first experience and from what other reviewers are reporting. read more
