Walked by this place many times, and decided to try it out for some wine flights and food! The patio does not feel like you are feet away from Chicago, and instead has Parisian vibes. Neither me and my girlfriend were huge wine people, but they curated flights for each of us were fantastic. Recently, they have also added food to the menu and every item sounded real tasty and unique. We had the Croque Monsieur and a Lobster Banh Mi. The first was very rich and savory, where the full sandwich is huge. The second was a great combination, as it was light and flavorful. There was also porchetta on the Banh Mi which was a nice compliment to the lobster. All the sandwhich bread was also from HEWN, so you know it's good. It was a little chilly on the patio, but the heaters were nice. We will definitely be back as it warms things spring and summer! P.S. I really like this place and want it to succeed, the wines are wonderful and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable but it feels a bit neglected recently: the planters outside are full of weeds, the wait for food is crazy even when there is hardly anyone there. This place is great! It's a wine store and wine bar, so you can do some shopping and then enjoy your purchases right away! We can in on a Wednesday night, it was not very busy. The place has a nice vibe-they've got an extensive bar, some high-top tables, and some comfy couches too. We ordered a meat and cheese platter to share. It was all amazing, but the duck salmui and the brillat vivant cheese are phenomenal. (Our server told us we'd have a hard time deciding whether we wanted to eat the cheese or rub it on our faces, and she was right! It's incredibly creamy). This place doesn't do big label wines, so these are wines you won't find at Binny's or the grocery store. That's really cool, but also a bit of a challenge when you don't have anything to recognize. We ended up picking a wine based on the label, which turned out to be a delicious Moroccan red blend. We also tried a Space Invaders themed red that was good. If you open a bottle and don't finish it, they'll package it up for you so you can take it with you. It also looks like they have lots of events/wine tastings/etc. to take advantage of. In addition, our server, Elizabeth, was amazing. She was super friendly, and helpful in making recommendations both on the food and the wine. Pricing is all over the board-if you get a glass they're about $10-14, which is reasonable, but the bottles vary from $14 to $211 (that's the highest I saw), so you can find something in your price range. Michael the sommelier was absolutely wonderful and provided the best wine recommendations! He also provided tasting notes for the wine we tried which really helped us with our wine education. The only note I have is that we really wish Lush had Michael's chocolates to pair with the wine. Michael and the wine were absolutely a 5-star experience, but having his chocolates to pair with would've topped it to 6-stars. read more

Came here for a date night on a beautiful, warm, Tuesday evening. The patio is super cute and comfortable. I ordered a red wine flight and my boyfriend ordered their take on an old fashioned. Unfortunately we were there for two hours and these were the only drinks we were able to order. Our server was kind and knowledgeable, but way too overworked. He was the only server on for the night, so he was covering the entire patio (which had about 7 tables seated, including multiple larger groups) as well as working behind the bar and covering the register for people buying wine inside. We ended up leaving after two hours and only a charcuterie board, even though we were still hungry. The food and drinks were delicious, but we could not keep waiting 30 minutes for our server to return. We hope to come back again this summer and hopefully they'll do a better job of planning to have more staff working! read more

Your experience here is fully dependent upon your service staff. We had a wonderful server who was warm and friendly but her manager - older gentleman walking around like he's the king of everything - couldn't be more rude. We had a couple of questions about the different wines and all of them were met with short and rude answers like we were wasting his time. We live a 5 min walk from this restaurant and really keep hoping each visit will be good but very nice the waitstaff and food is overshadowed by this very rude gentlemen who needs a lesson in customer service. We will not be coming back and will be telling all of our Roscoe friends the same. A change is needed, and it's one person. read more

It was as if it was meant to be. Our first visit was so much fun that when we had out of town guests we knew we had to take them there. We all agreed, this place is near perfect. I love the atmosphere with the library feel complete with the rolling ladder to reach those gorgeous bottles of wine from around the world. Small high top tables substitute for bar stools as there is no typical "bar" at which to sit. A few leather chairs in the front add to what is a very comforting, I can spend a lot of time here kind of vibe. Plus they have great wines by the glass. Actually by the beaker. Really bummed that Lush refuses to fully refund balances on two $100 gift cards after suddenly closing the Evanston location last year. I'd bought the cards because the restaurant was walking distance from my two-year-old granddaughter's house and I'd had dreams of spontaneous summer's day strollered walks to lunch. In any case, at our last visit before it closed, we had to send our lunch back - chunks of inedible gristle in the burgers! (I also see that one of the owner's other restaurants was closed for a period ealrier this year for health code violations.) I'd really like my money back. read more

This is a cute neighborhood gem that I usually go to to purchase wine. When walking my dog the other day I realized they added an outdoor dog friendly patio. We were lucky that it was still warm enough to sit outside and enjoy one last time before it got too cold. We ordered red wine flights, apps, and then more wine. Shockingly bad experience here on a Thursday evening. I recommend this place to my friends after driving past and seeing the cute ambiance of the patio, so we made a patio reservation. When I arrived, our party was seated around the corner at a picnic table next to a stop sign. It was very far from the actual patio with the cute lights, small garden, and heat lamps - so I went inside to ask if we could move to another open table in the actual patio area. The older gentleman behind the counter seemed annoyed that I even walked into the building. I kept trying to make awkward eye contact and once he acknowledged me, I asked if we could move. Without missing a beat he told me no and that WE had booked that table. As if it was our fault we were put at a picnic table seemingly not even on the restaurant properly. (Fact check: When making a reservation the option is "patio" and you do not specify a table). He did offer to seat us inside, begrudgingly. The plot thickens. We ended up moving inside so we could actually experience the restaurant. A few minutes later the staff member seemingly changed his mind and moved us to the actual patio - yay! I don't know if it was because we requested to move, but after that the service was horrible. We ordered a few drinks and a charcuterie board and decided to go with chefs choice on the cheeses. Y'all - there was MAYBE a spoonful of each cheese on this board. For $27, I had never seen a charcuterie board so sparse. I've been looking at their photos online snd we maybe got 1/3 the size of what was pictured. Definitely not enough for 5 people. Not only was it bare, but he didn't even TELL US WHICH CHEESES we got. He sat it down and just moved on. I flagged him down later to get the names of the cheeses we were eating. He also told us nothing about the wine we ordered - we looked it up ourselves. I think for an upscale wine bar with very upscale prices, Lush did not follow through with customer service, general kindness, food, or drinks. We will not be returning. read more

What a gem! A friend of mine told me about Lush and it's right around the corner from my apartment so a couple friends and I went last night. You can buy bottles of wine to either take home or drink there. They also offer wine by the glass and just started a happy hour with half price glasses from 4-6 Monday-Thursday. They don't sell big name wines, which I love, so my strategy of picking based on cool labels works well here (they're also great at describing the wines of you want a more official approach to choosing). We ended up getting two bottles as well as a meat and cheese board. Elizabeth was our server and she couldn't have been more amazing. Not only was she helpful in suggesting wine and cheese, but she was hilarious and great to talk with. I will most certainly be back! read more

The wine is fine, but the shop is so cold that they keep shawls to share and my fingers were numb even in my sweater and their shawl. We asked the staff to turn up the thermostat or at least turn down the blower and they said they weren't allowed to. I'm headed to Vinic, where the wine is good, the service is friendly and accommodating, and the environment is comfortable. I won't be back. read more

This review is strictly for the wine bar side, not the restaurant part which doesn't open until 5pm, as I understand. TLDNR : Unprofessional wine service from an unbelievably rude, seemingly judgmental person. It was a Tuesday afternoon about 1pm, and I suggested to my two girl friends that we head to Lush to start my best friend's birthday celebration. I am majoring in Beverage Management and have been recently prepped for my sommelier exams, so I know a thing or two about wine. I looked this place up and it seemed to have a really unique selection. However, we had an absolutely terrible experience. I was so embarrassed to have taken my friends here. The service was incredibly rude, and I won't be back EVER which is a shame since I walk by the place about 6x a week. I could have been a regular! Overall, the sole woman behind the counter appeared to be very irritated to have customers in at 1pm (they open at noon, by the way). We were the only people there. She didn't greet us when we walked in & seemed more concerned with her register and re-stocking than helping us. When we finally were approached and asked if we were looking for anything in particular after quite a lot of time, I spoke up and asked for a Chablis (Chardonnay from France). She handed me down a 2014 at a low price point and said she also has this other one. No description on flavor differences, nothing. That was it. I felt like I was Julia Roberts from the "big mistake" scene in Pretty Woman. I am not a cheap person, and I've been known to drop big bucks, especially for my best friend on her birthday. Fwiw, I would NOT have chosen that Chablis since it was still too acidic and young, which I would have been able to gather had I been given any advice/descriptions on these items at all. So anyway, I picked out a few more things and I spent a total of $83. Luckily I looked online prior and knew you could drink what you buy there, so I asked her to chill one bottle and if we could get some glasses. The bottle was snatched from my hands, and we were directed to only sit on the one side of the place, so we did. Also, when I asked for the bottle to be chilled a little longer she again seemed very annoyed. Then the wine 'service' came. She served us curtly and quickly. She didn't talk about the bottle while opening, threw the wine cork on the table, poured quickly & sloppily, left the white wine on the table and walked away. We didn't get an ice bucket until much later. No smiles, no suggestions, nothing. Just quick rushed service where she appeared to be annoyed that we were sitting there, while she continued stocking. In the meantime, other customers have come in & been presented with a menu, explained to how things worked, shown the discount wine section, etc. We didn't get any of that, which left me wondering if she had some prejudices of her own against young blonde girls or young Puerto Rican girls. Who knows! I was so very vocal about it being my friend's birthday & for that alone she should have helped us more. She never smiled, greeted us, or said goodbye have a nice day. In the end, I'm glad I only left her a $5 tip for pouring our wine, and I'm usually a 30% tipper! We opened our own beer (a Pipeworks bomber) and had to ask for glasses for that too, by the way. Bottom line: For a unique, fine wine store there needs to be better service. I worked at Binny's so I am familiar with a lot of brands, but this store stocks a lot of odd ones that the average person would not be familiar with. I'm also familiar with providing excellent customer service being that I am in the Hospitality Industry. A smile and a helpful hand go a long way. I hope this staff member sees this review and improves both her customer service skills and attitude. The start to my best friend's birthday was completely ruined, and you lost me as a customer, someone who would have stopped in bi-weekly to buy Lush's products. Had a wine tasting party at Lush with seven friends that was unbelievably good! The table setup was striking, the space was semiprivate but on a Sunday afternoon we were entirely uninterrupted, the light bites were tasty (duck fat popcorn, mini lobster rolls, etc), and the wine showcased a wide range that was fun and engaging for us. However, our sommelier Jeff was what made the evening spectacular. He was an absolute delight, dancing in and out of our conversation to guide us through the tasting while allowing us to take our time and enjoy the experience. I am pretty sure we went long and Jeff made alternate table arrangements for us to complete the tasting at our own pace. Can't say thank you enough to Jeff and the staff at Lush for making it an afternoon to remember! read more

Their prices range from $10 to $50 and you can either pick wine to go home with you or open it and drink at the shop with your friends. I had a very pleasant experience. The very gracious owner messaged me, thusly: "If you are not interested in our menu options, you can purchase anything in the shop and take it over to the wine bar. This changes my opinion about this location, definitely. (I have actually always loved their (first?) location on south Halsted 'cos they are a good wine shop. The only gripe I have about this place is that every time I walk in here I end up leaving slightly intoxicated. They always have a tasting going on, or some open bottle I might be interested in trying, and how can I say "No" to that (free booze=happy me)? And when they pour you a taste, is not like at some places where its just enough to coat the bottom of the glass. It's usually a healthy portion, and after a few of those I feel a little woozy, often times buying more than I expected. Good thing their knowledgeable and friendly staff always make great suggestions. Also good they have a wonderful selection. Someone really knows how to pick drinks over there. We sat outside on the new patio , it was kinda chilly at the time and they had a fire pit burning which wasn't able to be vented out properly because the patio is between 2 close buildings . We mentioned it was a bit much and they didn't close it , they have plenty of propane torches but decided to burn real wood. Ruined our dinner and drinks. Had to wash our clothes twice in order to remove the smell. If you want to be smoked out , dine here . I personally coughed for 3 days. Poor management. Food also wasn't anything special. read more

The first time the visit was brief because I deferred to my gf to work her oenophilic magic and didn't need the help of the staff-though they did offer. The second and most recent visit there seemed to be a tasting event going on in the other half so there wasn't a lot of staff available. I was staring at the beer selection they had which was varied and impressive but there was just so much to choose from a little help would have been appreciated, but none came. I've been here several times to buy wine and dine at their restaurant. I live very close to the store and was happy to find a neighborhood haunt to frequent. Sadly, I can no longer return or recommend this place on account of their rude staff, bizarre ownership practices, and poor customer service. I like this place! They have a good variety, and I love the wall of $16 wines - there is always something good to try. I've bought bottles and hung out with friends before, which is cool too. And no corkage fee is nice. But I do wish they would dim the lights in the evening, to make it more of a wine bar feel - sometimes the really bright lights make it feel like more of a store. The tables have little candles, so with some dimmers added, it would be extra cozy and make you want to stay a while :) Especially since they have those pretty wine glass chandeliers! read more

Nobody knows anything or have tried anything to truly recommend beyond price. Nobody asks if they can help you pick out a wine, even after prowling around for 20 min. And the 9.99 rack is now $16. I had to ask the dude at the cash register (he never asked if I needed help & he was doing nothing), if there was anything in the store between $10-15. 2 bottles in the whole store.
