Update! 8/18/2020 Over the last few months, Chelsie has been cutting my hair and I'm a HUGE FAN! I have a pretty edgy, A-symmetrical pixie cut with half of my head shaved. The back is full of layers and texture that creates a swoop that flows into a chin length cut. Chelsie is very detail oriented and great at making this complicated cut seem like an easy job. My hair is always perfectly textured with lots of body. I have to mention, her shampoos are the most relaxing and pampering part of my experience. I have to remind myself not to fall asleep! LOL! She is never in a rush and always takes her time to make sure I leave with a smile on my face. I've even brought my sister for a visit & she was so impressed with Chelsie that she will drive 4.5 hours just to get a color and cut from her. If that doesn't convince you that she's amazing, idk what will. :) I have never been to a salon like this before. The service is outstanding!! Local and lovely. In search of a new salon within my NW Hills neighborhood, I tried this little gem on a whim. From the first call, Chelsie was friendly, accommodating and customized. Considering the visit was shortly after salon re-openings, I was also impressed with the safety precautions in place including texting upon arrival and required mask wearing by both stylist and client. The owner, also naturally congenial, kept the salon open to complete my color/cut through to satisfaction and smiles of approval without mention of the hour. New to Austin, read prior reviews so tried it out. First, the place is beautifully kept and inviting. You are made feel welcome and special. Here's one difference, they actually listen! Kaleigh (hope I spelt it right) is a perfectionist, and so easy to talk with. She took care of me like I was a"bride".My haircut was nothing but perfect I received so many compliments. I tried a new color it didn't go well at home!!!(not salon's issue) but they couldn't have been nicer, very understanding, and attentive whilst changing the color the next day. She tediously listens, has a great eye for a new hair style, and always has ideas to support fashion, hair type, and look. Get ready to have the best hair cut!! I came in with long, dry and unmanageable hair. Basically a big hairy mess! I came to Asta again because I know she is very very dedicated to hair, the products you put in your hair and her passion for hair I've never seen before. I got my hair cut with her and a great cut and hair felt great. Then I went to other stylist/colorist and thought I could save a few pennies. Well I just about got the worst hair cut from a salon I wont mention. I walked away looking like Getty Lee. I even went back to try to get it fixed... she just made it worse. I wore my hair UP for the next 3 months. I was just terrible. I need to start ALL OVER because she did such a terrible job!! I went to Asta almost in tears begging for her to fix my hair. I wanted a completely new look. Instantly she could see my frustration and pain and put me at ease. She has such a soft and calm way about her - her confidence in her knowledge of hair put me at ease again. I had seen the 'make-over' shots she posted on line and the women looked terrific - you could tell Asta gave these women hair cuts that fit their face and style. That is what I wanted!!! Something that fit my very narrow face and still give me the 'not conservative' look. I was willing to take at least 8 inches off but not shaved. She told me the general directions she was going in. I completely trusted her. After-all she has an amazing track record since he had won more then just several awards. She cut and colored and she gave me a cut; I could manage, that fit me, framed my very narrow face nicely and my hair was no longer dry and was very manageable. It has been at least a month and am able to style my hair in a few different ways. My hair is still in great condition. I am still having so much fun with My hair cut. This might be a good salon for cuts and color, but DO NOT go here for a blowout. I was in the chair for one hour and 45 minutes and it looks terrible. No waves, no curls, nothing. It literally looks like I blew out my own hair, but with my eyes closed. She also put this stuff on it and it feels oily and not clean at all. I have never been this disappointed in a blowout and they charged me $45.00. Plus, everything seemed super unorganized and not professional at all. I cannot tell you how unhappy I am and will never, ever be going back. And this is coming from someone who gets blowouts super frequently. In fact, I've never even left a negative review before. I was even going to get one of my girlfriends a gift card to get her hair blow out for her birthday. Nope! Trust me. Save your time and money and go to a place that specializes in blowouts. Asta and Jin did an amazing cut and color! I had some severely outgrown color from another salon. Asta was thorough in understanding not only what I wanted but what the previous color was so she could come up with a plan to fix it. I wanted to go back darker but keep in some natural color. And they nailed it! One thing I love is they explain everything they are doing and why. Walked away with some great tips on blow drying and just overall more educated about color. The experience was one of the best I've had also -- beautiful salon, mimosas (special recipe, I hear), complimentary hand massage while waiting on color and just overall amazing company -- the staff and other clients sitting next to me. I even got a follow up call asking me about my visit. The products used are Eufora which are all natural and smell amazing. The color left my hair softer than I've ever felt it. The person answering the phone quickly placed me on hold to see if it was possible. 10 MINUTES LATER ON HOLD she comes back and says they were very busy and couldn't take me. I waited to post a review until I'd washed my hair and had a chance to style it by myself. I now feel comfortable saying that this is the best haircut I've had in my life! I got the Signature Cut, and I had only vague ideas about what I wanted (medium to short in length). Asta helped me pick a style that would be flattering and easy to manage. I have very thick, wavy hair, and she did an amazing job shaping it so that accentuates my face and feels light, which is quite a feat. It is very easy to cut my hair so that it just 'poofs,' since there's so much of it, but she spent a long time getting the details right, and it shows. My hair looks great with little to no styling. I was visiting from out of town and had seen a recommendation online to visit Luster. Oralia was my stylist and was very accommodating when I showed her two different hair styles for an updo. She did an incredible combination of both! I happened to be in there when Dewayne, one of the owners, brought food in, and he was so friendly and personable! He made sure I had a mimosa (extra points!) and I loved that on Saturdays they have a spread of food that customers can enjoy as well! Six hours later, I was asked to pay almost $300, 2.5 hours after closing. I got a treatment that cost $25 that I never agreed to, haircut for $40 and root with full head is $225! I could not be happier. I love Luster Hair Lounge and Asta! I have very fine, straight hair that hides nothing, so I have a difficult time getting a good haircut. Asta nails it every time! Asta starts each cut with a long conversation to really understand how you liked your last cut, any problems you had styling it, how your hair feels, what you want, etc. A few months ago I sat down in the chair and said I was bored and wanted a change. Asta knew my hair and remembered everything I had ever said about my likes/dislikes, and I walked away with a fun new haircut I love! Asta's so awesome! Asta is meticulous. Expect to spend a lot of time getting your cut. She cuts wet, she cuts dry, she styles, she cuts, she has you toss your hair this way, that way, tilt this way, that way. She is relentless in her pursuit of the stray strand! Asta is obviously very knowledgeable about the great line of haircare products she loves and sells, but never 'pushes' the products or admonishes me for using lower-end haircare products. She is absolutely fantastic with color, cut and styling and she has experience and knowledge of a very wide variety of hair types, which is exceptional. "What happened to your hair?" and "What did you do to your hair?" These are not the questions you want to hear after getting a haircut. I got a haircut from Alexiss 6 weeks ago and it was great. Just what I wanted. Came back for a trim and said I love everything about it-just need it trimmed. She said how much. I said 1/2 an inch. Was clear that I don't spend much time on my hair. I don't have time. When we got in the chair she said she thought we should take an inch off. In retrospect, I think she was having a really bad day because besides that, the only things she said were things like "look down", "turn your head this way". She seemed to take a lot of time cutting and styling (I have fine thin hair). When she was done it had a lot of volume-poofy- not the straighter bob style I came in with. I said that I didn't like how my bangs looked. She said it's because of how they dried - they would look better after I washed and styled them. ?? She had spent 20 minutes blow drying my hair. Shouldn't you be happy when you walk out the door? It was only later that I realized she had completely butchered my hair. I have sections of hair that were 5-6 inches long that are an inch long! It takes me 20 minutes to style to look decent. Maybe that doesn't bother you. I could spend less than 5 with the old style and be out the door. I called the salon and the receptionist said she could get their head stylist to fix it. How do you make hair grow? It's going to take over a year to grow this out. Maybe it's a good haircut. But it's not the haircut I wanted. read more

I met Luster Hair Lounge at a bridal show in Austin. They offered a great, affordable price with their bridal package. They were very communicative through their emails, responding very quickly and working with me on prices and options. I needed flexibility with my wedding as there were two events in one day, and the owner was great about finding a price for me that worked, and worked with me on an hourly touch-up rate for the second event later that same day. Luster even offered me a discount for paying in full for my package. My bridal hair and make up trial was alright. I had an idea for what I wanted my hair to look like, but I hated it after the first try. The owner was gracious enough to spend extra time with me to find something I loved. The make up portion of the trial was a disaster. The woman who did my make up did not have the correct shade (I am darker) of foundation, so I left with white blotchy spots all over my face. But, I was reassured that by the time of my wedding, the correct color foundation would be bought. They kept this promise, thank goodness. The reason this review has 3 stars is for the events on the actual wedding day. My wedding planner confirmed with Luster Hair Lounge that my schedule for hair and makeup (for myself, 5 bridesmaids, my mom, and mother in law) began at 5am. Luster Hair Lounge arrived late, and by the time they were set up and ready to go, it was 5:30am. Luster Hair Lounge brought 4 workers with them: 2 for hair, and 2 for makeup. If we had followed the scheduled set out by my wedding planner and confirmed by Luster Hair Lounge, everything would have been fine. However, Luster Hair Lounge did not follow the schedule and ended up spending over 2 and a half hours on just ONE of my bridesmaids. Me, the bride, did not even get that much attention. I was also one hour late to my own wedding. It was ridiculous. I had 3 unhappy women on my wedding day, all who had their make up done by the same woman. These same women, in the afternoon, refused touch up services by Luster and did their own hair and make up because of how unhappy they were with the makeup from the morning. A few days after my wedding, I hear from my bridesmaids that the workers that Luster Hair Lounge brought were being unprofessional in speaking poorly about my wedding party. At my wedding. In the hotel room we were getting ready at. This, in my opinion, is HIGHLY unprofessional. I am unlikely to recommend this vendor. read more
