This place in seriously an A1 facility, so much so I say add another damn star! You walk in and it looks like the lobby of a 4 star hotel. Staff is really nice and really caring. The worst thing I can say about this place is in the words of another lady who lives there. "the food sucks, and the pudding is worse". She is correct on both accounts. The coolest thing I can say about small town living, and this place is that my lovely 95 year old Grandma is so happy there. Her apartment is really pretty tho filled to the brim with bricka-brack. She asked me to join her for dinner so I could meet some of her friends how could I refuse her? What I didn't realise was that she meant her friends from childhood. I sat at dinner with Aberdean, my grandmothers best friend from the 7th grade. They were 12! and back together after literally 80+ years. Boggles my mind... Proctor, tho nobody wants to be, or wants their loved ones to be in a home of any kind, is really a place where the widowed can live in the company of people they have known most of their lives. Imagine the comfort of that in a world taht has so drastically changed over the long courses of their lives. Frankly, I was really impressed by this place. The whole place is spotless. Nobody is neglected and everyone is so nice. My Grandmother is apparently referred to by the staff as 'the rowdy'. She likes to dance even tho she has terrible knees and a walker, she gets the others up and moving too. They are all grateful for her, and I am grateful for them. Proctor is ok by me. But the food does have to change. They're getting a new food service this month. If it gets better I'll let you know, as I'm sure that will be the burning question on all of your minds in the near future.

To say this place is amazing does not even do it justice. The Activity directors Kara and Rachel are wonderful. They enrich the residents lives each day. They are warm, loving and just all around great people. They truly love what they do and plan the best activities for the residents. People can stay active all day long if they choose. Kara and Rachel know each person and genuinely care for each of them. Without these two women Overlook would not be the same. The kitchen crew are a nice group of people and make great food through out the week. In finance Jaime is great and nice to work with. The cleaning crew is wonderful too. Such a fun, nice group of ladies. They keep the space spotless and do a great job on the residence rooms. The whole atmosphere at Overlook is friendly, upbeat and positive. The size of Overlook is great. Not to big where people don't know each other but a great size where there is space however, they all know each other. I can't say enough great things about this place! All I know is I feel blessed to have my parents at such an amazing place! Thank you Kara & Rachel

"They're supposed to be independent," we were told when Dad asked for help making his bed. RN works 40 hr wk, is not there nights/weekends, she does hands on care like bandages, aides not allowed. When touring and signing contract, family was told all staff are in-house employees but aides are mostly outside agency so rotating strangers were providing care who didn't build any bonds with our Dad. Some were caring and wonderful, some were not. (None were abusive.) "Good" activities like going out for lunch or dinner or anywhere are RARE. On Medicaid? $30 left after cable/phone, you can't go unless family pays. So it's mostly the rich kids clique that gets to go places. A HUGE positive is Medicaid residents still get/keep their private rooms, not forced to share a room, and receive exact services and care as the cash payers. Cash pay starts at $5K+/mo for a studio. Our big problem and why we moved Dad out recently- LACK OF PROMISED CARE/ACTIVITIES. We were treated like complainers by apathetic Administrator when we pointed out specific items in Dad's contract not being done. No idea if our issues were ever discussed with nursing director or activity manager but they were never corrected. Dad didn't get twice/week shower, aides spent under 10 mins/day interacting with him, some complained LOUDLY if he'd buzz for a little help standing up from toilet. To their credit, we thought staffing was bare minimum and know CNA turnover is high. Maybe treat them better and pay them more to retain staff? Care was rushed. Calendar activities are a joke, shows many daily options but most are lame worksheets left on door to be done alone. Contract states care and activity plan SPECIFIC to Dad's needs would be written up and followed, which never happened. We were promised (and paying for) stimulating activities and a social life for Dad. He could sit home alone and do nothing for free. He's just a little slow getting around but wanted friends and things to do! Activity woman snippy and defensive when asked about activity plan, would also evade us when we visited. Food is average institutional food, nothing special. The rooms and bathrooms are large and the outside grounds are very nice. We are still waiting on partial month refund almost 3 months after moving Dad out so some issues with the office which they say corporate does the refunds. Heritage Woods of Yorkville is far from terrible but did not come close to meeting our expectations to keep Dad busy and engaged.
