I have been going here for a gel manicure several times a year for around a decade, and because of my last experience unfortunately I'm not sure I will be back. Usually no matter who the manicurist is, they do a pretty great job. However, the last time I was here about two months ago there was a new lady who did my nails prior to a trip to NY I was going on. She spent around 25 minutes from beginning to end, and a couple days later my thumbs were already chipping. But the worst is that a couple weeks later when I removed them with nail polish remover, several of my nails had partially disintegrated and peeled and there were huge dents in all of my nails. I wouldn't even have minded so much if it hadn't continued to be painful for several weeks afterward. Mind you, this has never happened to me in all of my many years of getting gel manicures. It has been two months and my nails are still not in good shape but are starting to grow out at least. If you do go here make sure it's with someone who knows what they're doing. read more

I decided to try out Lux nail spa because I wanted to get some birthday nails, and with my schedule is very tough to find a place but they were open late and I called them hours before if they can do a Gel X and gel pedi, I had asked over the phone how much the total would be but I did not understand one bit but I was like okay can you please book me in. Keep in mind their prices are like no where to be found, not even on their website or at their salon. I get there 5 mins before my appointment which was at 6:30pm and they didn't start my service till 7pm so I waited a little over 30mins. I wasn't completely bothered by it because I understand they were busy but a little more communication would've been appreciated because you never know when someone is on a time crunch. I was honestly very shocked by their prices, I had asked for Gel X with basic French tip, and gel pedi also with basic French tip. When the girl went over the price she told me if I did French pedi it will be $100, I'm sorry $100?! For gel French tip? I told her no sorry I'll just do one color gel. My Gel X with French tips were $100, I don't know, but the math wasn't adding up. But the gel pedi was $70 even tho I heard her say $65 which is still outrageous because I've had many gel pedis and Russian pedicure for about $45-$50, but 70?! Jeeez. My nails did turn out nice, but I still don't believe that's a reasonable price, they were nice but not $170 nice. And you should really be more transparent with your clients because I'm pretty sure she charged me more than what she should've and it's my fault for not taking the receipt. I had asked for square nails and I even showed her a picture and they still weren't even shaped to my liking. I had to file them to how I wanted it. Shitty smile. Shitty attitude. Shitty human. I walked in for a quick fix of ONE nail. The woman at the front had an attitude from the very first moment I asked her how to fix the nail. She told me they don't do acrylic. I told her no problem they could just do gel. It was just one nail anyway. Then she said they couldn't do it. I asked why? She started doing a rapid blink like she was so annoyed I was asking any further questions, then she refused again and said they don't do acrylic. I'd like to make it clear that she had no issues with her English skills, so it wasn't a language barrier. I repeated that I did not need acrylic and that gel would work. I just wanted the nail fixed. She rolled her eyes and then went over to one of her coworkers and came back a few seconds later to say it would be $25 to fix the one nail. I laughed because obviously that was a joke. I then asked her how much it would cost to do a full gel set for both hands, 10 fingers. She said $65. I think we can all do the math. And it ain't mathin'. She knew that cost would be offputting to overcharge me $25 for one nail. She purposely wanted me to walk out. And it worked because there's no place on the planet I'm going to pay $25 to fix one thumb nail. The vibe was racist. The vibe was unapologetic. And like this review started, the vibe was shitty. I wasted no more of my time with the silliness and left to find a nail shop 3 minutes away with friendly people who charged 1/3 of what she was asking. LA has many choices. I've come here for years and last minute needed a pedicure. I called to make sure they could accommodate me before dropping in they said absolutely and to come in. when i got there they tried to up sell me a premium gel and i refused saying i wanted the basic gel. got an ugly look and she proceeded to do my pedicure. I was in the chair no more than 25 minutes she rushed the entire process. In rushing she over cut my cuticles resulting in me bleeding and telling her she's going too fast. She continued at the same pace... The experience made me so uncomfortable. I paid for the pedicure and will not be returning. I had a good experience getting my nails done, the tech was nice and followed my design to a T. They tell you if you're getting nail art you need to do premium gel which comes at a higher price, fine. I asked about premium gel she said it would last longer and the final product looked really pretty. Total was $81 and I tipped $20 because it was the week of Christmas. I was a loyal customer of theirs for 8 years, but went strictly for Kei, who is no longer there. I will never be back. Right before Kei left, I made an appointment. I called the night before my 10am appointment because I and my family had to mandatory evacuate our home due to the fires, and left a message telling them I had to cancel because we were evacuating. I called several times the next morning, even in the midst of the anxiety of being evacuated with my children, to try and let them know before 10am, but nobody answered the phone. When I finally got through at 10am, the owner, Soo, YELLED at me that my technician had made it in, even though she lived close to the Palisades. I explained that I couldn't, since I had to mandatory evacuate with my kids and we left the area, and she hung up on me. The next week, I called to reschedule. A different woman answered the phone and told me Kei had lots of availability. She gave me all the options and I told her I'd check my calendar and call right back. I called about ten minutes later and the owner - the one who had yelled at me the week before - answered the phone. She told me in the most taunting tone that Kei was booked solid, and that in those ten minutes all the spots had been taken. I later called in and confirmed with someone else who answered the phone that she had been lying, and that Kei actually had many openings. Presumably, she lied to punish me for cancelling my appointment the week before because I had to EVACUATE my home with my CHILDREN because of the FIRES. She is completely insane. She has always been a b*tch, always nasty, never nice and constant bad energy. She's an ugly person. But I always put up with her so I could see Kei. Eight years of my business (and I always paid a lot) and this is the treatment I get - at a time that was already so devastating and difficult for me. The salon is like a mausoleum. You can tell all the technicians are scared of her. It's a sterile, uncomfortable ambience and always a tense experience. And it's because of her. I cannot wrap my head around how anyone could not be understanding of a last minute cancellation due to a mandatory evacuation for these deadly fires. Did she really expect me to drive all the way back to LA for her and show up with my traumatized 7 year old daughter, whose school was closed down because of the fires, and sit and get my nails done while my family was displaced and waiting to see if our home would burn down?? Needless to say, I'll never go back. That is the end of my 8 years as their customer. It's no wonder the place is always empty. Read the other reviews and you'll see what a psychopath she is. She clearly doesn't care about her customers or her business. I've already found a new place that uses Japanese products and does an amazing job. Couldn't have been easier. There are way too many nail salons to subject yourself to such a miserable environment. And without Kei there now, there's really nothing in it for you. Do yourself a favor. I always get the premium gel (harder gel and possibly better for your nails as well) with design. My natural nails are thin and weak so the hard gel protects them and last longer than the regular gel. The attached photos are only some of the amazing nails I've had done at Lux. I went back 6 days later after I returned from my trip to see if they could fix the nail and they refused and wanted to charge me $10-15 to fix the single nail! I've been coming here for over a year, scheduling with the same nail tech every time. Never missed an appointment and always tipped above the normal amount. I canceled 1 single appointment because I had an emergency and they told me I am not allowed to schedule an appointment ever again and I can only go for walk-ins. I understand that when a customer cancels an appointment with not enough notice, the nail tech loses that customer, so I get wanting to make sure the techs are all booked, but having a rule in place that punishes customers like this is not cool. I have never canceled an appointment before today, and no one ever even mentioned this rule to me before. I still wanted to try and fix things cause I like my tech and feel very comfortable with her, so I offered to pay my tech double at my next appointment with her, but they didn't care, and I am still banned from making appointments. Also they do up charge for random stuff like "premium gel" and "$5 per finger" for designs. I have always just let this go cause I only ever got gel manicures and pedicures here with no add ons (other than water care which should be free but it's $8 extra), so I didn't really care. But yeah just a warning, if you're gonna get any designs or add-ons ask about the price first so you're not surprised at checkout. Unfortunately I will not be returning to Lux again, because I need to have scheduled appointments and I feel really unwelcome now. But if anyone reading this is still fine with going to Lux please schedule with Jien! She was my nail tech and she is wonderful at it + she's super nice. read more

The quality of the work at this salon is incredible, but if you're looking for a relaxing experience -- this isn't it. You won't get the massage for mani or pedis you may expect, especially for the price. But the art and design of the manicure/pedicure is always A+. The salon is impeccably clean! Cleaner than most. I never worry about it being sanitary. I have two qualms which is why I rated it 3 stars. I've had issues with appointments in the past where I've had a nail break within a day or two and they would not accept me in to fix the nail. They told me they do not do fixes, which was frustrating bc the polish I had was not a polish I could a) easily get or b) find easily elsewhere. However, when I went in for an appt at a later date, I saw someone come in to get a finger fixed, which disappointment me. The owner/manager has been incredibly rude to me on the phone at least twice. The other thing is they do not expressly share what the cost of each service is. I have never once had the same bill since I have booked appointments here. French manicures were a $5 add on at one point; now they charge $3 per nail. (Apparently -- that was what I was charged the last two times). I understand the pandemic has changed the salon industry and I respect it, but the past year their prices have been all over the place. They need to disclose on their website exactly what they charge. It's insane that I'm walking out of a salon paying almost $300 with tip for a gel manicure and a pedicure. They do not have a menu on their website or in their salon which feels deceitful. I do love my nails but I have stopped going to this salon regularly because of those two things. I've come here many time for my nails, always tipping even when the service hasn't been good, but today I was shopping on the street and stopped in to ask if I could use the restroom and said I would gladly pay for a product to be able to use it or just pay a fee, and the girl at the front refused in the most condescending way. I went and got my nails done at Lux Nails during the pandemic. Kei did a great job, no doubt. I was impressed with her work, except she cut my cuticle and made me bleed. She tried to cover it up so I wouldn't see, but clearly there is a scab there today, and it's very painful. Another thing was, if I wanted 3 coats of nail polish it was going to cost me an extra $5.... wait, what!!! I've never heard of that before. Way to scam a customer to paying extra. It's not like I asked for a design or anything. (This was for my nails). I watched everyone around me getting a massage, but when she was done with my mani and pedi she was ready to start the next client. I had to ask her personally to get a massage. Then she played stupid and was okay, "oh yah, of course". She also didn't ask which pedicure I wanted, if she had asked I would of opted for the more expensive one then she actually did on me... sucks for her! Hi everyone! I wanted to leave a review on just the sheer pricing of this place. I called to ask how much for a fill. Heavy on the fill. Apparently it's $95 for one. Which I don't know about you all but if it takes an hour to do, that means the nail tech is making around the $$$ a physician makes to do your nails. Not fix your car or provide healthcare but do your nails (which may break and you'll need to do it again in a few weeks) So I asked " do you also do a manicure with the gel?" She said "uhmmm no that's 55 dollars and takes 45 minutes, the fill takes an hour so that's why it costs more" I said ok well I broke one. She said "oh that's an extra 5$ and you can ONLY GET ONE COLOR!" WHAT?! If I'm paying you 100/hour (they always expect a tip- which is outrageous on its own merit) YOU ARE GOING TO PAINT MY NAILS 10 DIFFERENT COLORS IF I WANT. ~The Importance of Customer Service~ I live right around the corner from this nail spa and have been going there for over two years. I have even had my eyebrows waxed here, too. I scheduled my appointment on Valentines Day to come in this weekend(Saturday 16th). I told the woman over the phone that I have no gel to be removed and want a NON ORGANIC GEL French tip manicure. Along with a regular pedicure. After my appointment she said my total was $90. I thought that was expensive but I paid. I had the receipt sent to me (text message) and that's when I saw the breakdown of being overcharged. $25 pedicure $50 organic gel manicure w gel removal $15 french tip (this is a rip-off) $90 Total I informed the woman at the reception that I asked for a non organic gel manicure and came in with no nail polish on. She didn't believe me and had to ask the girl who did my nails and of course the manicurist said, no gel removal. She said fine we will reimburse you $5. She then told me that they can only do French tip gel in organic. So I'm being charged $25 for French tip???? Ridiculous. I told her that I shouldn't be charged the additional $10 for organic since I wasn't told that information when I made the appointment. She only reimbursed me $5 and wasn't nice about it. I should have been reimbursed $15 not $5. It sucks cause I did like this place but after being overcharged and her not reimbursing me just $15, I will NOT be back and they've lost my business (local customer of 2 years). It was only $15 and I'm upset. This situation shows the importance of customer service. I wouldn't have posted this review and would have remained a customer if I got my $15 back!
