LUX has been my go to hair salon for many years, and they've never let me down. Prior to last week, it had been a very long time since I'd had my hair done. So long, in fact, that my natural hair had grown out past my shoulders. Since I follow LUX on Instagram, I noticed that they had recently hired a new stylist, Virgo, who (as I write this) is still accepting new clients. I'd gone to a trendy hair salon in midtown for a consultation, but the stylist there had told me that she couldn't get my hair all the way white blonde in one session, even though I'm a natural blonde, and the bottom half of my hair had already been made that color in one session. Between that and several other red flags, I decided to give LUX a call, and book a consultation with Virgo, instead. When I checked in, she said, "Oh, you look different in the picture I have of you in the computer. You have brown and purple in your hair." "Oh," I said, "That was probably like, twelve years ago. I probably look a lot younger." We both laughed, and then I sighed a little bit. Oh, to be that young again... Anyway, Virgo told me that she specializes in color correction, and was very confident that she would be able to get my hair white blonde in one session, especially since the bottom half was already that color, and had been done in one session. When I told her that I wanted to get a pink and peach split, she told me that she had actually done that on herself last year. So, she knew what I meant when I said I wanted peach, not orange. The girl from the midtown salon hadn't seemed to understand the importance of double processing my hair, but Virgo definitely did. She explained, "We'll make sure to bleach out all of the brassy tones so that they don't show through in the pink and the peach. But, we won't bleach the bottom part, since that's already bleached. We'll just tone that part." Obviously, I ended up booking an appointment with Virgo. She said she only needed to trim an inch or two, but I had her take off a lot more than that. I was so sick of having long hair. She bleached my hair all the way white, and then added peach to one side, and pink to the other, just like we had discussed. I love the way my hair turned out. This is something that I was looking forward to having done for months, and I am super happy with the results. Altogether, it took about five hours to do my hair, which is honestly faster than usual. Last time I had foils done all over my whole head, it took nearly eight hours. Passing the time with Virgo was easy. We talked about all kinds of things, from Brad Mondo to parenting to competitive pole dancing. She also made sure I had plenty to drink and plenty to keep me entertained during the periods when she had to step away. I didn't end up buying any product, because I already have a lot at home. But, the stuff that she showed me and put in my hair made my hair so smooth, and smelled so good, I just might have to go back and get some, after all. I will definitely come back to see Virgo again in the future, and highly recommend her to anyone else who is looking to have their hair colored, especially if you're looking for custom colors or color correction. read more

Unfortunately, I came here for a trim and showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted and she ended up cutting my hair so short and not at all what the pic looked like (unfortunately, wasn't able to notice it until I showered at home). I even had to catch her mid cut and tell her I wanted the top longer or else she would've cut my hair way shorter. Will not be coming back to this salon again. Also, I accommodated her and rescheduled cause she kept me waiting over 30 min at my original appt. read more

I had three different appointments scheduled with Violett over the span of three weeks, and not one of them followed through as planned. The first appointment was set for a Tuesday at 3 PM. I took off work early to make it on time, only to receive a cancellation text 30 minutes before the appointment. She kindly offered a discount for the inconvenience, which I appreciated. I rescheduled for the following Thursday at 4:30 PM, and again--another last-minute cancellation right before the appointment. Still hoping to get my hair done and with other salons fully booked, I gave it one more shot. On the third try, she changed my appointment time yet again. At that point, I asked to cancel entirely, and all I received in response was an automated cancellation notice--no personal acknowledgment, no apology. This was by far the most unprofessional experience I've had with any stylist or business. I understand emergencies happen, but three scheduling issues with no follow-through or accountability is unacceptable. I highly do not recommend. read more

Was referred to this salon by a friend from work. Originally she had told me about a stylist name Virgo, she didn't have any free appointments for three months through the website. I looked at all the other stylist Instagrams. I choose/ loved Kayla Miller's work. She's super friendly, her ice breaker was funny. She gives me an Emma Roberts vibe. Usually, when I get my hair done by the same person that's been doing it since high school , 19 years, I loathe it for 2-3 weeks. I came in thinking I wanted a wolf cut, knowing that it probably couldn't be done because I don't have that much hair after my miscarriage. I called on a Tuesday and was able to get an appt for Saturday. I went in for a cut and color. The color was a little but darker than I would have liked and the hair was cut shorter than I requested but it will grow back. She made a rough cut in the front and I said I wanted to keep the length. Then she colored it and had to cut more afterwards to make it even. I wish she would have cut less to start with and then maybe it wouldn't have ended up so short. Also she didn't show my hair from thr back to me, only the front. Either way it turned out better since I hadn't had a cut in a while and I know what to request next time. The place was nice and clean and offered wine, water and soda while you got your hair done. Kayla cancelled 2 of my appointments last minute. Before that, I came in to get my hair colored and she couldn't even color my hair the way I wanted because she didn't have the time to do it. I went to 19yo Kayla to tone and brighten my already whitish hair. She put some kind of toner on it and what I got was the 2nd picture. I have to say.... someone is NOT a blonde expert bc they have an opening. Kayla is straight out of cosmetology school and I'm pretty sure she has no idea what she is doing. After she initially did it in told her that I HATED it. She acted surprised like how could I hate it. I showed her pictures on my IG where my hair was perfect. I'm honestly confused as to why she ruined my hair. I went in to get it fixed and the owner of the salon tried to tell me that my hair was never as light as the first picture. The hair was on my head!! I once had that hair. She REFUSED to fix completely what Kayla did. I ended up leaving with my hair wet and the $40 back from Kayla ruining my hair. Now I'm stuck with shitty hair that I have to go pay someone else $400 to fix. Do NOT go to this salon even if it's the only place open. Snip and Clip is better and more professional. read more

The salon is beautiful and clean, and conveniently located for me. I've seen Erica multiple times now and she is excellent! I showed her a picture of a colored hair that I kind of wanted and she took that picture, put her own twist on it (with my permission; she's an artist, let her do what she wants ), and gave my guy the BEST hair cut I have ever seen him with. 10/10 would recommend. I went to LUX because I heard the stylists were experts in color and I had a big family reunion I was attending and wanted my hair looking nice. I had a picture of what I wanted and was told they could make my hair just like the photo. Unfortunately my hair didn't turn out right, it was not bright nor did it have dimension. When I asked to have it corrected, they said they'd charge me to redo it. I've never had a salon refuse to satisfy the client. I guess I have to ask ahead of time if they guarantee satisfaction. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER If I could give it no stars I would! I walked in for a haircut basic trim. I was told by the stylist/ receptionist working the front desk that there was availability in 45 mins. So I made the appointment for a cut in 45 mins. She assured me the current stylist was working on someone's lashes and should be done in 30mins max. Based on that info I decided to sit in the lobby and wait. The stylist/receptionist sitting at the front desk at one point got up and left the salon and didn't return for the rest of the time I was there. Leaving the front desk and the phones unmanned and the front of the business empty aside from me. When the 45 mins had come and gone I walked up to the front to get someone's attention to ask how much longer it would be. All stylists that I could see had their backs to me and were working on their customers. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt figuring the other appointment ran longer than expected and patiently waited. I ended up waited 30mins past my appointment time which is completely unacceptable. I finally was able to snag the attention of a stylist and she checked the schedule. Apparently the stylist who was supposed to cut my hair was never notified of my presence or the appointment and had left for the day 30mins prior. The stylist apologized but told me no one else was available to take another client for the day. I asked to speak with a manager but unfortunately there was no manger working. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Not only was I left in that lobby and not once did someone check on me or ask if I had been helped but they had forgotten I was there. The stylist/ receptionist just up and disappeared for over an hour?! Leaving the front phones and front desk unattended?? A salon is somewhere to feel pampered and relaxed....I left there feeling angry, overlooked, and with no hair cut. I will never return even if they had offered me a free haircut which they should have at least done! DO BETTER!!!! read more

Called for an appointment to get a haircut and some chunky highlights and got Morgan as my stylist. The place is very clean and spacious and everyone seems friendly. Morgan was super patient with me since I am clueless when it comes to styling hair lol. I showed her a reference picture and she was honest about whether or not that color was achievable since my hair was previously bleached and whatnot. It took around 3 hours and she was so careful and detailed when it came to working with my hair. It came out great! They also offer you water and tea if you get thirsty. First time at Lux and it was a great experience. They seem to be taking all covid precautions possible (masks, staggered stations, plastic lining between hair wash stations, a sign in to keep track in case of a positive case). The salon is very clean and welcoming. Refreshments were offered too. I had my hair cut and a balayage dye from Lisa. I had cut my own hair and did a box dye and really needed some work done. I am very happy with the results. The color came out better than I expected. She was very thorough and did a test strand before starting. I plan to rebook with her in the future and highly recommend for balayages. read more

I walked out with beautiful hair like I was 16 again. She covered my grey like I've never been covered before. My highlights are the perfect shade I asked for. I like warm highlights. Her color choices for both the highlights and low lights were SPOT ON! She's professional, sweet, a good listener (I talk a lot) and she knows her stuff. I love this shop as it is very clean. The receptionist greets you professionally and it is run like a very high end salon without the super high end prices. They offer nails and waxing to.
