On Friday 8/1, I booked an appointment with Natalie for Saturday 8/2 at 9 AM. She texted me and said "hey mark, sorry im not working tomorrow but I can do Sunday or monday". I replied and said "Sunday will work, let me know"...radio silence. However, she DID rebook me without asking for Monday at 9 am. Saturday morning 8/2, I got a text from her asking "what time is the latest youre available on Sunday". I replied im available any time on Sunday. Radio silence. Late evening on Sunday 8/3 I sent "i saw you rebooked me for 9 am on Monday, does this still work?" She replied "yes! Either that or 10 am would be better" I replied "great see you at 10" Monday 8/4 (day of appointment), I get a text asking "its a womens haircut right, I know it says mark but I figured it might be your husband". I explained "im a guy with long hair. I just had it cut from mid back length to shoulder length with balayage, but want want to maybe take it a little shorter to chin length". She asked me to send a picture of what I wanted. I literally typed in "womens hairstyle for men above jaw" clicked the first picture I saw and sent it to her (because I had a feeling she was going to say that she couldn't do mens cuts). The picture i sent was basically a messy bob with a side part. She replied "that's definitely a mens cut, Im comfortable doing bobs but nothing shorter"... I dont even know where to begin with the issues I have with this. First off, why not figure all this out before the day lf the appointments. Secondly, why rebook a time for me without asking (which i couldn't even cancel cause it didnt let me cancel without 48 hours notice), third stop ghosting your potential clients as I could have booked a different cut but she handled this at any time 3 days prior, fourth ive had long hair for a long time so I know what a mens vs womens cut is and I even told her I usually get "a woman's cut" (direct quote), fifth it is 100% illegal to discriminate based on gender alone in ca...im absolutely irate...ive had long hair for years and have been to many many salons and ive never had this problem...its hard for me to believe that if I was a woman and wanted a longer pixie cut or a chin length bob that you would say "sorry i can only do bobs up to a certain length"...shes been a stylist for 10 years, i even said "i get a womans haircut typically"...what kind of stylist cant do a womens haircut above shoulder length??? read more

I've had my 2 rows of 22" NBRs for nearly a year now and I love them! Since then, both Maryn and Lauren have been doing my move-ups and highlight/toners, and and they have both been SO amazing! Maryn is such an excellent colorist and always knocks it out of the park with whatever I ask of her. She's great at listening to what I want and formulating and executing the color blend with my extensions perfectly. I've also asked her hair questions over Instagram and she's always responsive! Lauren has done my move-ups as of recent and she is super kind and great at listening to what I want, too. I'm excited to continue seeing her as my stylist (she ended up having more time in her schedule to accomodate mine so I switched to seeing her!). She checked on me post-move up to see how everything was feeling which I really appreciate. She responds super quick if I ask her questions, too. Overall, the girls at Rarity take care of me really well! Having extensions is pricey but you get what you pay for when it comes to hair. I think the Rarity experience is worth all the money. And I'm talking, full on, Breville espresso machine to make lattes with a million syrups and milk choices to chose from - and if coffee isn't your jam, then there's plenty of other drinks and snackies to keep you quenched and occupied during your experience. Have I painted the picture of a welcoming, pristine, and attentive salon yet? That's all just first impressions, and we're just getting started with how excellent the hair services are. Service #1: A haircut with Kaylyn, an absolute sweetheart and the best haircutter I've ever had. As someone who is extremely protective of my hair, I have always kept it long to my lower back. After making sure I was really ready to make the chop, she expertly chopped off over a foot and left my hair and myself feeling so revitalized. I also got some short face framing pieces for the first time and I love them. We talked about what my coloring journey would be like, but I wasn't ready until... Service #2: My first color! With Kaylyn again, and of course help from some team members -- Oh, btw, this is a team-based salon. AKA, they all work together and you don't need to worry about anyone trying to upsell you for a commission bonus or worry that your hair is going to be messed up from someone else using a conflicting style since they follow the same training, protocols, & ideology. Tbh, I was a mess for this first appointment and had no clue what I wanted and had like 20 inspo pics and vague instructions besides "I want something new and lighter, I trust you, and please teach me what to do." Kaylyn 1000% delivered again and was so patient with me and walked me through all the new words and routines and everything else in the world of hair coloring. Service #3: I was ready to go bigger & bolder and got a full balayage done to get me there. This time I was with Katie, the owner, who mapped out my head and gave instructions to a second Katie, and the two of them had my hair foiled & processing so fast (I had messed up my scheduling and needed to head back to Davis for class asap). I had the best conversation with Katie about being a female business owner, leadership, culture, and team development, and it was obvious that this salon is a product of incredible talent, cohesive teamwork, and so many other things going on behind the scenes to give each client the best experience possible. Also, my hair was literally so, so perfect by the end of my appointment, and I got so many compliments at that class I had to race back home for. Last huge, HUGE point: these ladies are so helpful and *non-judgemental* when it comes to hair care. I literally knew nothing about hair care & color before being a client here (and I'm still learning with each visit) but they never once have they made me feel lame or inept for asking stupid questions, fumbling descriptions for what I'm going for, having way too many conflicting inspo pics, or the drug store products I use. I usually get my hair cut at Project XO Salon in San Francisco. With the pandemic, I haven't really had a reason to make it back to the Bay Area, and my hair is at a length that is no longer manageable or fun.
