I vacillate between rating Luxbar 4 or 5 stars. Two of us ate there again last night. The service and and staff are excellent - always accommodating. The location - just off Rush street on the Gold Coast is great. (Snagging an outdoor table in better weather is great for people watching. The food is great. As noted in my earlier reviews, the Steak Frites ($19.50) is a steal. The Snickers Ice Cream Pie can easily serve 4 ($13.00). There is always a lively buzz in the place, so noise levels are high, making conversation difficult. I wish I could blame the noise on blaring music - but there generally is none. My only negative is that their alcohol prices are high ($17 for mixed drink and $9 for a craft beer), but that, unfortunately, is the norm in downtown Chicago these days. Heartily recommend Luxbar to anyone in - or visiting - Chicago. read more

Luxbar came highly recommended for their espresso martinis, so on National Espresso Martini day, I made my way out there. Walking in felt like a zoo and there are tables almost up to the entrances, so there are people waiting right next to those eating. Even with a reservation they made us wait an additional 20 min to get our table ready. And like the unlucky one, we were also by the door with those waiting. The espresso martini was good, more bitter than I prefer but still solid. Overall the food was under seasoned and everything needed more salt, from the guacamole to the Mac and Cheese. I also got the tuna tacos and the whole dish tasted quite like nothing - which was rather disappointing. Just chopped tuna on mashed avocado. Our server was nice and prompt. But they have their own LUXBAR matches which if you're into collecting them at least thats a good stop. read more

10/3/2021--Located in the Viagra Triangle, this place is where you want to be for Sunday brunch. Crowded, but fun and filled with good vibes and cool people. The staff is attentive even on a busy day. The drinks are refreshing. Food is brought out fresh, hot, and in a timely manner. I honestly got lost in how good the food was that I didn't take pictures of everything I had. Guess that means I have to go back again, especially since I was eating low carb. Parking is metered and can be a nightmare in this area. Valet is available in front of Gibsons. Reservations are highly recommended. Service was good. Food was not so. I have been coming to Luxe bar for five years. I live in a neighborhood, with a group of friends, in/or close proximity to the Neighborhood. we have been coming here once a week. But we have agreed this was our last visit. My hamburger was way over cooked. One friend's grilled cheese was hard as rock and a third friend had to send her Reuben back because she could not chew the stale bread. we know there is a lot of restaurant competition in this neighborhood. the fact that we can go to different restaurants because we are all older than 70 years. we don't want to have to walk too far. But so much money on two glasses of wine and food that is not edible, is no longer an option for us. All three of us would even drink three glasses of wine, but, we also come here for the food. So, in conclusion... setting aside the service and the ambience, (both of which we have no problem with) my friends and I have decided to pay that much for food, it needs to be better. We have yet to dine at Lux Bar, but we will in the future. We love stopping by here for cocktails. They have a great selection of high-end bourbon and fabulous craft cocktails. Enjoyed Sunday night dinner here. Chili disappointed some with no noticeable steak chunks, but the sweet potato and coleslaw sides were HUGE and good. A few TVs spread around, but not overbearing-you can watch a game but it's not a sports bar. Very nice upstairs for private events. read more

As a big fan of craft beer, the vintage collection of beers is outstanding. I had a very well preserved 2010 Goose Island Matilda. They have a big selection of bourbon county as well as harder finds from breweries across the US. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and friendly. I had the Reuben and fries, which both were great! Definitely coming back for another vintage beer and the cocktail looked amazing. read more

The food was all very good, although the steak frites were just okay. However, at only $19, they may have been the cheapest steak frites I've seen. I had a simple question for a server and was blatantly ignored. I spoke loudly and clearly to ask where the bathroom was, and she looked straight ahead and walked past me like I didn't exist. Super cute digs, but the food is standard. Food: 3/5. The food is pricey, standard American brunch fare. I had an Avocado toast, which was fine, but not particularly flavorful. Service and atmosphere: 5/5. Service staff are attentive and friendly. I love the fancy, polished vibes in this restaurant! We came here on a Thursday night and a reservation was necessary since the place was packed. There were so many people and so loud it was hard to hear our own conversation, so was not a fan of the ambiance there. I tried the Paper Plane cocktail and it was mixed very well. I also got the steak frites medium rare. The steak was really good and the fries were just ok. The food was good but I would not go back to this place since there are so many more restaurants around and for the prices/quality/environment, seemed not worth it. read more

I love LuxBar. I've probably been here 50+ times, it's one of the best in Gold Coast. LuxBar is brilliant for every meal, their brunch is so yummy as is their dinner. The steak is amazing, both the breakfast and dinner versions. Service is impeccable. Location is spectacular and the upstairs view is beautiful. The burger was very good, tasty and big enough for the both of us (it's 2 patty's). There wasn't much in the menu I wanted other than a burger. Was looking for Cesar salad but didn't have any. Walked in on a Friday night hoping to take advantage of any happy hour specials. Unfortunately there weren't any (unless you have to sit at the bar?), but we decided to stay anyway and indulge. I wanted to eat light so I ordered the kale salad with salmon. I was given the smallest piece of salmon ever smh. Like they broke off a random piece at the last minute and threw it in the bowl. Also, you might want to ask for extra dressing, it was a little dry but not bad once I added more. My partner ordered the NY strip and it was cooked wonderfully. It was a bit more medium than she liked but the flavor was amazing. Nice crisp and char flavor, I was really pleased. The old fashioned needed work, it was just straight bourbon neat. Had my birthday dinner here at Luxbar! It was a really big 2-story building located in Gold Coast with lots of tables inside. I definitely recommend making a reservation - it was super busy and probably would have taken a while to be sat if we didn't have a reservation. The food was yummy! We had tuna poke tacos, hummus, guacamole, the Caesar salad, and assorted cocktails. The food was good, but I think it was a bit overpriced. My cocktail was okay and it was $16 and the tuna tacos were good but they were soooo tiny and $17. Also, around 20 minutes before our reservation, I got a call from the restaurant that something happened with their kitchen and they couldn't make hot foods, so we only could get salads or sandwiches. Stuff happens of course and it's fine, it's just obviously not a call you want to get before your birthday dinner when your group planned on getting hot food items. Our service was great!!
