My first visit was with Pharmis - greeted me warmly, then hit right down to the business of beautifying... One hour later: conditioned, trimmed, and an awesome blow out that STILL looks good 2 days later! Another perk: she stays later than most stylists - allowing those of us with day jobs, or in need of more than a few hours to do errands on Sundays - to still get in an appointment for the weekend. My second visit was with the owner, and she was equally awesome - had some great suggestions, took my own input about my blowout, and we scheduled for an upcoming appointment to help write in my highlights. This upscale salon is surrounded by prime restaurants on busy Ventura and has parking meters right outside of it which wasn't too hard for me to find. The customer service at reception is amiable. When I was 5 minutes late to my appt, Shelby my hair stylist was still able to see me right away!For my consulation, she reviewed the messy hair bleaching I did to my hair and told me how she'd fix it, so I made an appt. Due to how ridiculous my hair made me feel, I called back later that day and asked for an earlier appt because I was scared of going to work, and the receptionist was able to get me in with Shelby the next day. The next day I arrived on time for my COLOR CORRECTION and Shelby was prepared and ready for me as soon as I walked in. She was very very careful with my damaged fine hair, and protected it as if it was her own. I felt completely comfortable for the first time letting someone besides my mom touch my hair and comfortable with someone who has a different ethnicity than me to do my curls #shelbyrocks! I've actually learned how to better care for my hair and what Devacurl products to use from her. She also gave me a free haircut and shaped it in a way I've never seen before. TL;DR: Shelby is INCREDIBLE! Boy, did I luck out. I had a colorist that I loved and trusted, but has sadly gone out of business. A friend of mine suggested Luxe Parlor, since she and her family have gone there for years. I made an appointment with Shelby for a balayage (and here's the lucky part). I did not know that she was a balayage specialist when I made the appointment. More over, she is a curly hair specialist as well!! She started off by giving me a quick "dusting" by cutting the split ends on my hair. I told her what I wanted a full balayage and she tells me that I can get away with a partial (I've always had a full, but I can hardly can tell the difference). She is honest: she didn't want to gouge me for money, which is one of the first times I've ever experienced something like that. It was nice to be able to feel trust with your hairstylist. I wasn't planning to blow dry afterwards (because I've been trying to take care of my hair, so I didn't want to blow dry. Since she is a curly hair expert (and I have curly hair) she gave me a lot of tips on styling my hair with little to no heat styling. As a background I've always hated my curly hair and i wouldn't style it naturally because it looked frizzy and too crazy. She showed me how to style my hair as she was styling it, and it was genuinely the first time I felt happy and confident about going out with my natural curly hair. Highly recommend this salon! Christine worked wonders on my hair. She was very patient and gave me great advice on how I should go about my hair as it was my first time doing anything to my hair (aka I had virgin hair). I have dark brown, super straight hair and wanted to do some highlights a few shades lighter of my natural hair color without using bleach as I'm not a fan of how damaging bleach is. Ended up doing a color tint and I couldn't have been happier with the results! The tint was just what I envisioned and my hair was not damaged whatsoever. After, Christine gave me some helpful tips on how to care for my hair, recommended shampoo/conditioners and other hair products. It has been about two months since and the color is still as vibrant as ever and have received many compliments. At first, I wasn't planning on writing a review. The owner and hairdresser Christine was a very nice lady, and I didn't want to spread more negativity into this world. But as time went on, and I became more and more unhappy with my hair, I feel the need to share my experience at Luxe. Mind you, this is going to be a long one... I just moved to LA so I needed to find a new hairdresser. I am very picky with whom I let touch my hair, and I search yelp high and low to find the best options in my neighborhood. I saw that the Luxe Parlour had great reviews and the pictures of the clients where really nice. I called Christine the owner to set up an appointment. Ok, I had colored my hair blonde from dark brown for the first time in my life. I didn't quite know the procedure of what to do next. The ends had become brassy and the roots had grown out a bit. I was very happy with the original color, and ask to simulate that, but go a bit blonder. We set up an appointment for highlights and roots. I arrived at the salon on time, and Christine arrived 20 minutes late. This was the case for both my appointments. Both times she started the consultation complaining about how stressed she was and her personal issues causing her tardiness. Off-course everyone can have a bad day, but I don't think you should bring that kind of energy to your workplace or client. The first appointment I got my highlights done, but it didn't manage to get the brass out. The lighter shade actually made the brass show up stronger. As for the roots, she tried to color them lighter, but they ended up being bright orange. As we finished the appointment, after 7 hours, cause she had to run, my hair looked much worse than when I entered the salon. She noticed the brassy ends and offered me to come back next week to have them redone. I said that I though my roots looked very orange, and she said that might be the light, but we will look at them next time aswell. Returning the next week, Christine was late again...and didn't remember what we had planned to fix the previous week. I reminded her of the brassy ends and the orange roots, and now she agreed that the roots where very orange. She opted to bleach the ends and the roots. For some reason the bleach didn't seem to pierce through the brassy ends, and this is not Christine's fault! But the roots, they went straight yellow. After giving it a little blow dry she asked if I was happy with it. I said no, she said me neither, and we went in to try to fix it. She was now becoming worried that all the bleaching and coloring was going to damage my hair and asked her colleague if she could borrow her formula of toner, because it was more moisturizing. This was a big MISTAKE, because returning to the chair I now had yellowbleached roots, and BLUE patches all over my hair. NO even color. I straight away said I HAVE BLUE PATCHES,...panicking and texting my boyfriend that I was going to shave my hair off when I came home...Christine tried to calm me and said I should never look at we hair, it will even out when it dries. Her assistant started blowdrying, and then it was clear to everyone that I had blue patches. I think we are turning this into a complete color correcting procedure, Christine said. We went back to the sink, washed out the previous toner and tried her own formula. To even this out we need to go a lot darker, Christine said. At this point I was ok to do anything not to walk around with an uneven mess. So she colored my roots darker and went in with an allover darker toner. So I ended up spending 2 days, 14 hours and a lot of money to walk out with a lot darker hair than I came in with. To remind you, I requested light ashy blonde. The roots have a orange shine and I'm now looking for a hairdresser who can salvage this disaster. To throw a little positivity in here, Christine cut my hair and I loved the cut!!! read more

So, I finally decided to bite the bullet and get my hair done for the Fall or really just because I wanted to. I have family members that have previously been here and their hair turned out amazing. Thanks to Alana. I booked my appointment with Alana and was anxious to see her work her magic. First off, Alana is super friendly, personable and very knowledgable. If you think you're going to be sitting in a chair for 3-4 hours twiddling your thumbs and bored, then you're wrong. She will chat with you throughout your time there, which I appreciate, because I'm like a child who needs to be entertained. I'm kidding... I have jet black hair with subtle natural highlights, but I wanted to get a balayage with caramel tint. Alana listened to what I wanted and also gave me her recommendations. I really emphasized that I didn't want an orange tint in my hair and thankfully it turned out exactly what I wanted. Alana went to the back room and mixed whatever she needed to and my hair turned out exactly what I wanted. Alana is known as a master colorist for a reason. Thank you so much, Alana! You are forever going to be my hair dresser for life. I'm forced to write this bad review because this salon refused to refund my money after they did such an incompetent job on my hair. So I came to this salon in hopes to fix my ombre. I have a brown/blonde ombre and I just wanted to touch up my black roots and bring the blonde up higher. Kala did my hair and I told her what I wanted, but after she was done, my hair was just brassy and most of my blonde was gone that it didn't even look like an ombre anymore. I was so disappointed that I just wanted to pay and leave, since I'm not the confrontational type. Oh and not to mention, she took a before picture BUT not an after picture, so she even knew that her work was incompetent. When I got home I noticed that my roots on the bottom half of my hair were still black and didn't even lift! Only the roots on the top half of my hair lifted. Kala even blowdried my hair and didn't even bother to fix the bottom half of my roots, knowing that it was still black. Because of this, I was forced to go to another salon to get my hair fixed, AGAIN. Then I called the owner from Luxe Parlour and explained to her my experience and that I wanted a refund, but she refused, saying "well I wasn't there and it's hard to believe that my hairstylists did that." She practically called me a liar. I actually really liked this salon because I had a great first experience with Christine, but now I don't think I'll ever be coming back after they refused to refund me. read more

All together, it was a long process (I have a lot of hair!) so I was there for most of the day, but everyone was so friendly and accommodating that I didn't mind spending those hours there at all; I feel like I've been going there for years! Daphne has been my hairstylist for years...through trims and long layers, she's helped me maintain my hair when I have the time to. This was my first time at Luxe Parlour & Blowdry Bar and I definitely left as a happy customer! Welcoming and clean environment. I've had long hair for about 10 years now and and this was a drastic change for me. I went from having my hair down to almost my butt to a bob, short in the back and a little long in the front but I cut off about 12 inches. I had to get the courage up to actually chop off my hair for three weeks I think it was. After doing some research, I finally found a cut & style I really loved! I contacted Daphne and she gave me some opinions and suggestions that really helped make my big decision. She even made sure that it was something I really wanted to do. There were no tears when she chopped off a big chunk of my hair...she made the transition easier than I thought it would be. I tried this place for the first time just for a simple trim (it had been a while since I had gotten a haircut) and my hair came out looking so healthy and polished. My stylist was Whitney Carlone and she was incredible. She really took the time to make sure everything was perfect. Normally i'll just get a quick blow dry and be on my way, but Whitney really took her time and even curled my hair at the end (not sure if this is standard or because I told her I had an event later that day). After my hair was dry she was super thorough in trying to cut off all my damaged ends and now my hair is healthier than it's been in a while. She was so incredibly nice and I really felt comfortable throughout the whole appointment. The salon itself is very nice and I was offered water or coffee upon my arrival. I have longish hair and wanted to keep the length but give it some life, other than that I didn't give her much direction. Christine knew EXACTLY what to do. My hair looks so good and I've gotten a ton of compliments on it. Other salons just trimmed my hair without doing much else but she gave it so much depth and a beautiful shape. I'm obsessed with the results. It's been about a month since I saw her and I love it even more now.
