Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm definitely not an expert in hair but I know I had a great time here. I'd like to share my first experience at Luxuria to give some insight for new/interested clients. First Impressions: To start off with a bit of background, Luxuria has been around for quite a while, servicing clients in the Olney-Laytonsville area. They moved to a new location roughly 3 years ago and it looks amazing! The owner, Margie, is such a lovely person. When I first walked in, I was greeted with a bunch of warm smiles and welcomed into a beautiful space. The interior was gorgeously furnished and all products were neatly organized. It was extremely clean, smelled wonderful (no harsh chemical smells!), and had such a wonderful vibe going on - stylists and clients were chatting and having a great time! I was offered a few different options for refreshments by multiple people as well. The Process: I came in with an idea on what I wanted to do, but Katie M. guided me towards a better direction. She gave me a price breakdown and explained everything beforehand, so I knew what I was getting into - which I really appreciate! I was going for an ash brown all over, but Katie was concerned with the integrity of my hair and we agreed we should do something a little less harsh since I'd be coming back before the fall semester. We agreed on highlights, a gloss, and a tone so I could have some color and begin the multi-step process to achieving the color I want. It really says something when businesses care more about you as a person rather than milking your pockets with as much random stuff as they can put on. The lightening process my was easy-peasy - nothing burned or hurt at all. We opted for a color gloss, which helps with shine, evens tone, and is a lot less damaging than regular dye (I did a quick google search so this is just to the best of my knowledge). Overall, everything went super smooth. Katie is incredibly knowledgeable and committed to her work, so I feel like I learned a lot about the process of coloring hair! Result: The suspense was killing me! We did a blow-dry and curl, and when my hair was finally dry, I finally got to see the finished look. It was the kind of nice and subtle "mushroom" color I was aiming for without being too BAM on my head. We weren't expecting it to be so light simply because of how dark my natural hair was, but wowie!! I was hoping it would turn out light and it really did. The highlights were super nice and added so much depth and definition into my hair, and definitely looked amazing in curls. I wasn't ever worried but Katie really just surpassed all of my expectations. Overall, my experience at Luxuria was definitely a 10/10. Katie M. is bright and lively, super funny, and knows her stuff. I don't know what more I could ask for! I've been going to Luxuria for a few years now. I have loved the cuts and high lights that I get here. But this review isn't about that. It's about the service! I called to reschedule an appointment. I hate having to do that - especially since the only times that I now had open were times my regular stylist (whom I love) didn't work! I was bummed about that- but my niece was home from college and could only get together for our traditional high tea on the day I was scheduled for a cut and highlight. The receptionist was more than understanding. She said it was no problem at all and even went out of her way to connect me with another stylist. The receptionist alone here gets 5 stars! Have been going to Luxuria for manicures and pedicures for years and have always been impressed by the quality of service and care that Megan and Gale can lavish on your nails. HIGHLY recommended. Katie styled my hair for an event and did my makeup. Also HIGHLY recommended. Gotta give 'em four stars only because of my first (and last) haircut I received from Keira. I had never gone for a haircut at Luxuria but I was incredibly excited because I had never seen anything less than stellar cuts and colors walking out of the salon. I didn't have a preference for a stylist, thought I'd be adventurous and make an appointment with whoever was available. While she was sweet and pleasant... Keira did a number to my hair! I brought in a picture from Vogue of an extremely edgy cut and she.... botched my hair. My fine hair is prone to being flat and limp... she somehow managed to deflate my hair to all-time new low. Let it grow out for two weeks and went elsewhere for a cut to fix the uneven layers and chunks she took out of my hair. CHUNKS. Bottom line: STAY AWAY FROM KEIRA! read more

Jenn at Luxuria is the only person I have ever trusted to color my hair. I have had other stylists do it 2 times and it's never as good. I have been going to Jenn since before she was at Luxuria (past 9-10 years). She is very good at what she does. Everything else at Luxuria is fabulous too. Gale and Megan do a fantastic job with nails. They only use quality materials and really take care of each customer. Rachel does fantastic facials and waxing. Everybody is very friendly. We hired Jewel to do updos and airbrush makeup for my wedding. She did an AMAZING job. Everybody looked gorgeous. I can't say enough good things!! read more

I went to Luxuria for the first time yesterday and I am so glad I did! I rarely write reviews but I just had to leave one for here. Upon entering, I noticed what a beautiful salon it is. The stylists all seemed wonderfully nice and professional. I came in with a half formed idea of what I wanted and the stylist picked up on it, went with it, and did wonders! My highlight and cut are the best I've had in years. She convinced me to go without bangs (well, for now, sweep them way to the side until they grow out). I thought, why not? The only thing luxurious about this salon is the prices. They don't value long time customers, and when they moved to their new, smaller location in Olney, the place lost its charm. Apparently it is common practice to raise the customer's prices when the hair stylist gets a promotion. I am all for promotions, especially when they are deserved, but I don't believe valued customers should be asked to bear that burden. read more

So this review isn't completely representative of Luxuria as a whole and is only really about the stylist Ashley. I've never had to do this before, but after showing a picture of what it is I wanted and getting a haircut, I had to shave my head completely because the haircut was unsalvageable. Once getting home I tried to see if I could make it better, but with the fact that I work in a corporate environment and can't possibly wear a mohawk to the office I made the decision to just cut it off since she cut my hair so short, so high up one side of my head. I should have gone back and asked for my money back but I wasn't willing to embarrass the stylist. I just figured I'd let other people know of the lack of skill and care that was taken while I was at Luxuria. read more

The reception has really BAD customer service. The treat you like they couldn't care whether you are a customer or not. I went for a mani & pedi When I asked the receptionist why they offered specials for the month and then did not have any appointments. . The reply I got was do you want off our mailing list. I then talked to the owner about how I felt and I got an explanation for the lack of appointments and a lopsided apology. Later I found out that the receptionist was the owners daughter. If service was what they prided themselves on then I guess it doesn't apply to family members. The reason I gave it 2 stars was that the Mani & pedi are fantastic. Gale and Megan are both outstanding. In the future I will make an appointment through them. Don't know about the other services but I sure hate to pay so much money to be treated like that. read more

What happened to the review I wrote a couple of years ago? I didn't think Yelp removed negative reviews. Luckily, my time there was memorable. The only nice room was the lobby. The hair salon area was was an overcrowded jumble of chairs and unprofessionally dressed stylists. One lady who was getting her hair highlighted had a head full of messily wrapped lumpy foil. The manicure and pedicure area was a very small dark space. Despite charging top dollar for their services--they didn't even have professional nail dryers. That had fans. The waxing area was tiny and grubby. It needed painting as did most of the other rooms. When I got home I noticed a whole line of eyebrow hairs that the technician missed--and I don't have particularly hairy eyebrows. This place was not relaxing or spa-like. A spa is supposed to be a tranquil and quiet place. Luxuria Salon and Spa was anthing but. I thought their prices were outrageous for the area. Unless you live just down the street you probably pass several nail and hair salons on the way there. Most of them will be better and less expensive. To be fair, I was there almost two yearsago. Maybe the management has improved the place. I don't know. I do understand how attached women get to their stylists--and will follow them anywhere. I have a friend who goes there and her hair looks wonderful. When I heard that her hair stylist works there I was very disappointed because I would not go there again. read more

Best salon I've tried so far!!! I have been looking for a salon for a quite a while and have finally found one!!! I even tried several in Bethesda that were supposedly ranked highly, however Luxuria beats them all! i went in for just a haircut but a rather drastic change...bangs! It turned out amazing though! Katie did an amazing job! I loved the way she cut my hair and finished my layers. (Brittany did my sisters hair for her wedding and it looked amazing!) They have great customer service by offering a $20 dollar discount for new customers which is great especially when your trying to find a new salon. Be sure to print online. I was there last week for the first time and I got a pedicure by Gale. Best decision I ever made! I was greeted at the front desk by a very nice young lady who offered me a beverage and took me to the back where the chairs were. Let me tell you this place is beautiful! So nice and clean and the staff is super friendly. I never had such an amazing pedicure too! I am totally coming back for more! Gale did an amazing job and my toes look amazing!!! It's a little bit of a hike for me since I love ok Gaithersburg but it's totally worth it. I was desperate for highlights and lowlights and a cut. The salon was surprisingly busy for mid day and all the customers appeared to be long time clients - a good sign. The salon was clean, but not designed for relaxation. If you like socializing you can hear lots of interesting conversations. But, for me, I just prefer to check out for a few hours to soothing music and no conversations. This is hard to find this anywhere. My first visit, but Erin was great! She listened to my needs and did not judge me for the apparent neglect (it had been 6 months since my last treatment). So without any history Erin blended my color perfectly. Also, the cut is great. Hey folks - my negative review, reproduced below, was as charitable as I could manage. The fact that the store apparently had it removed makes me feel significantly less charitable. Here it is: This is the first negative review I have ever written in my life and I struggle to do it because the salon, service, and hair dresser were all lovely. This was a first visit and I was already looking forward to becoming a regular. However, I'm now in the frustrated, angry, and bitterly disappointed place of strongly warning you against visiting their newest - and apparently not tested - addition, Nicole. She is a lovely person I enjoyed meeting and talking to. But I can't look at or touch my hair without being enormously sad and angry. We agreed on a length past my shoulders and a basic blunt-edge with some long layers. My sense is that she kept trimming and trimming more to correct her mistakes. It is now up by my ears with outdated layers creating - at best - a dowdy, ugly, middle-aged soccer mom embarrassment. It will likely take most of a year before there is even enough hair to fix this terrible haircut, which will put it back to this very unbecoming length, then another two years to get back to my desired length. I am beyond angry, frustrated, and sad. Don't. Go. Here. read more

I've been a customer for almost 15 years, but over the last 2-3 years, the salon and services have really gone downhill. One hairdresser I had for a couple of years just up and walked out with no warning. The next hairdresser (Erin) I had, made my hair a horrible orange color and charged me almost $250 (not including the tip) and completely fried my hair. Great salon! I've been going to Jen P. for over 9 years and followed her here 7 years ago. She's taken me from very short to very long and to medium again, and even some pretty classic prom styles, and my hair always looks good (unless I wait way too long, guilty as charged). I've read reviews about other stylists who lose inspiration with their clients after just a few cuts, and for Jen at least I can attest to the opposite. She'll clean up your layers or give you a trendy cut, and always does great color using the best dye--my hair is never fried. My hair is more fine and quite straight, and she never tries to force a curl or cut over zealous layers. She's not a mind reader but she'll listen if you're an air-dry kind of girl. Plus the cuts look even better after a week or two. The one I got yesterday was just to keep my long layers in check during the drying, gross, staticky winter, but every spring I get the itch to go blond. The salon is clean and organized, very professional. The aesthetician, Rachel, does fabulous facials and brows as well as a no-pain Brazilian. The prices are a bit spendy, but you're getting top-quality products and services. read more

I love getting my hair done at Luxuria! Brittany does a great job with my hair, which is very fine and straight and falls flat easily. Color comes out in the shade I wanted, very natural looking. I got an updo done here (don't know by whom) back in high school and remember being pleased with it also. It's a little pricey but not horrible, and you get what you pay for: great results in a calm and professional environment. I would go more often for other services if I still lived in Olney. It's definitely the best salon in the area. read more
