I went to Sung Lim for a cut and color recently and was so impressed by his genuine attention to detail. It's an ok spot. The front desk isn't really warm or welcoming. Great central location, so I thought I'd give it a shot. My stylist was ok. I asked for 4N, ashy. It was on the warmer side. My scalp was on fire as the dye sat on my hair. I would've appreciated an ammonia-free option. Pricing isn't cheap, and I'm cool with it, as long as I get what I asked for. Jenny B. is great for my curly hair!! She takes the time to talk through what you want at the beginning, and checks in along the way before starting to cut. She GETS curly hair, and I feel a lot more comfortable with my hair in her hands than I did at the last salon I was going to. The salon I used to go to also had a super chaotic environment -- Kindle & Boom is calm and friendly, with nice decor and I actually feel relaxed while getting my hair done (instead of on edge haha). Pro: - friendly receptionist and stylist Cons: - super uneven haircut - stylist's long nails would occasionally scratch your face while blowing out your hair - felt very rushed and stylist did not pay attention to details - cost $85 for haircut and paid $15 tip ($100 for this terrible haircut) If you are going to charge $85, at least do the job right. I loved getting my hair done today with Quyen. She was so kind, sweet, and professional. She took the photos I gave her and asked a series of questions about my hair and what I wanted to achieve. She asked if I had any questions before we started and I said no. I was so grateful she called before our appointment because I hadn't booked a blow dry. She is truly a professional and made me feel so comfortable and beautiful afterwards. The only bad thing about this place was the front desk. I paid for the services and asked about tipping and the lady told me my stylist accepted Zelle. Then flipped a book in my face to the QR code. I told her I didn't have Zelle and she basically said then go to the ATM. No direction on where the ATM was or anything, but I found it. I loved this place so much, but if you're working the front desk, please be kind. It takes no effort to be kind and friendly because you are generally the face of the salon: you are the first person I encounter and the last person I talk to before I leave. If you cannot be kind, be respectful to your hardworking colleagues and remember that you represent them, and sometimes people will either decide to come back or not simply based on a nice greeting or in my case, having a book with a QR code shoved in my face. I will be back for my stylist because she was absolutely amazing. After looking through the reviews here, it seems like the front desk is the only thing that would ding this place. Honestly, the picture doesn't even do the color justice! I am so thankful to Patty for making my hair goals come to life. I went in for a cut and color blocking - always wanted a violet ash tone and she made it happen (which can be difficult on naturally, dark Asian hair). Patty is so thoughtful, detailed and talented at what she does. I felt so beautiful after! The staff at the hair washing station are also so friendly and great at what they do. Every hair stylist I have used there has given me an excellent haircut and I have fine, not so great hair. It seems they only have good stylists there. During Covid I was cutting my own hair for over a year. Maggie, the hairstylist I went to for several years left the salon sometime during Covid. She was offering to come to people's homes to do hair but I was being extra careful regarding Covid due to having a compromised immune system so I never had her do that for me. I was sad she left and tried several salons when I started going out again. I could not find anyone to give me a consistently good hair cut. Most recently I went back to Kindle and Boom and used Colleen and then Patty. Colleen gave me a good cut but she gets booked up and when I need a hair cut I need it right away. The receptionist told me Patty had an opening so I took i. She gave me a good cut and I was very happy. I honestly don't think you can go wrong at Kindle and Boom. Just tell the receptionist what type of hair you have and they set you up with someone she thinks will be good for you and is available. I have never had color there but I think it is safe to assume they can handle that too. read more

First off Kindle & Boom is more than just a hair salon, Kindle and Boom is a comforting and calm environment filled with amazing and talented hair stylist, who have mastered their craft over the years and are very well trained in what they do. The staff are exceptionally welcoming and friendly, and easy going. Bookings are easy and straightforward. I saw Eddie and couldn't be happier. You can tell he really cares and wants the best for you when sitting in his chair. With Eddie you're not just another customer he makes you feel comfortable whilst providing excellent advice for your hair goals. With that being said he had me looking like a new person. I followed Sung here whose my go-to stylist! I've seen him for 5+ years now. Upon arrival, they took my temperature and Sung greeted me. His station is always neat and clean. Remember to follow him on instagram (@sunglimhair). I wanted to do something different with my hair went and refreshed my original brown color. Also, I wanted to do a different color in the front in a style called "money piece". I let Sung surprise me and choose the color. When he was applying it, the color smelled so sweet and pleasant, I was excited! After the final touches were made, I loved the color and it brightened my face! I love this salon and have been seeing Shant, who does great cuts. However, I wanted to get plum highlights and Shant said his specialty is natural. So, I booked with Sung, who has rave reviews as you can see. Please, if you're a working mother, please beware before you book with Sung, who is not accommodating. I was forced to cancel last minute, as I woke up with a sore throat and we had JUST found out my daughter was possibly exposed to COVID. We have not tested yet, but I decided to cancel, for my safety and for the salon. The receptionist, who was lovely, did not ask a reason for my cancellation and rescheduled me with Sung. However, she called back and told me Sung NEVER wanted to see me. I understand it was my first appointment with him, but I have a good track record at this salon and had never canceled before. I have two young daughters as well, so COVID threats definitely happen to us sometimes especially with Omicron as they attend daycare. But Sung did not ask nor care and just said he never wanted to service me. I still like the salon because they refunded my gift card, but he soured my experience here. Also, when I booked the appointment, a credit card was not taken from me or told about a 72 cancellation policy, even though she had said there should have been one, but made it seem like just with Sung and not other stylists. I would love to review the services at Kindle & Boom but never got there. I made an appointment online on Thursday. Did not get a confirmation. Friday morning at 10:30 I called to confirm - after 7 rings no one had picked up, no voice mail. The website would not let me back in to see if I had an appointment, using the password it had supplied. At 12:16 I got a text confirming my "upcoming" 12:15 appointment! I responded I was 10 minutes away and jumped in the car. Then I got a call from the salon and I said I had just got the confirmation and I was 2 minutes away, but she said the stylist would not be able to take me. My first visit here was with Kim S who had given me haircut that was seriously the best I ever had. I have long, fine hair and she was able to add volume and depth. I wanted to go back to her but unfortunately she was out of salon due to injury so I took a leap of faith and booked with someone else for my next cut. I have followed Sung Lim for 6 years and after different places at this point. I hope that tells you how good he is! He not only gets to know your hair and figures out what's right for you, but also gives you a gentle push to a new character. I have never bleached my hair entirely before but tried almost everything else. Sung said it was about time and I dearly trust him, so... My hair went from pitch black to neon yellow with silver grey peek-a-boo You should check out the last picture to see how dark my hair was and how color correction was done so well! Also he took his time in bleaching and patiently made sure my hair won't be too damaged. I had not experienced any other type of change that makes me feel this way and I'm absolutely in love with it. Leaving a review for friend "I came here because of the amazing reviews and the pictures of results looked stunning. My experience was awful. I was there from 12:30-5pm for balayage and my hair turned out awful. I will be attaching pictures. The pictures speak for themselves. I paid $300 on the spot for services. I contacted them back to ask them to fix it. They brought me back in the following week and said that the $300 would go towards my balance. But balance for what? them fixing their own mistake? bruh. They charged me an additional $100 for toning and olaplex, all services that needed to be done to FIX the hair that they messed up on to begin with. At this point my hair had turned green and was severely damaged. The colorist that fixed my hair said my hair "looked like a skunk" and "chunky highlights" NOT a balayage like I originally asked for. I made a point to them that I should not be responsible for paying the additional $100 since I would not have needed those services if they had not screwed up my hair the first time around. At the end of this whole ordeal I left with my hair color a few shade lighter than what I went in with. After several conversations I managed to get them to refund me the $100. But then I said I would only like to pay for what I actually received (a few shades lighter, one overall single color). But all they said was "the best we can do is give you another $50". No one apologized to me for damaging my hair and wasting my time ( i took 2 days off of work for this). I understand that sometimes hair mistakes happen. But the way they handle these situations is ass. Imagine going out to eat and your food is awful and not what you wanted so they agree to make it for you again but charge you for extra ingredient's and the chefs time. It doesn't work that way. They should have been professional enough to recognize their mistake and ensure that I left with the hair that I originally asked for without charging me even more to fix up their mistakes. Also you should only pay for what you received. I walked out that salon with brown hair. I paid for a balayge. Their business practice is awful and unfair to the customer. Better pray they don't mess up your hair. if you get your hair colored here, the only person that should touch it is Sung. he is amazing. The only saving grace of this place." read more

I have given a couple of ratings and here is one more. I have never had a bad hair cut in this salon. I have now had 3 haircuts with Sufi and I have to say he is truly an artist. He listens to what I want and he does it. Sufi is warm and friendly... but when he is working he does not talk...he is very focused on what he is creating. And create he does!!!
