We were passing through town and wanted a quick lunch. Found this place on Yelp, great reviews, though few in number but took a chance. Had a bit of skepticism when we pulled up but somehow knew it was going to be good based on the reviews. It did not disappoint! My husband had Eric's Burrito and I had the chile rellano burrito. He couldn't stop raving about it! Mine was delicious as well. Large portions so we took half along with us. All that and Diet Coke too!! Terrific authentic Mexican food to be found here. The ambiance and service is closer to south of the border but it adds to the panache, certainly a favorite of the locals. The taco plate was divine, el pastor, pollo and lengua were a home run. Of note are the standard margaritas! big and refreshing, not too sweet. Best Mexican restaurant hands down!! I knew they were authentic just from the look, but the FLAVOR omg!!! When I say everything I ordered was AMAZING omg I mean it! The tacos FIRE, the Horchata IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! It's extremely flavorful and doesn't need to be constantly stirred. It is literally perfect!! I had a wonderful lunch at Luz! It's a humble little spot off the Pacific Highway that lured me in with its lack of flashy signage and inflatable attention-getters. They let their food do the talking. Their chilaquiles verdes was served in a beautifully-painted ceramic plate and was DELICIOUS: poached eggs, limey salsa verde, and thin carne asada to go with a bed of homemade tortilla chips. Sometimes you have to look past the outer wrappings of things, like a Mexican place inside of a former gas station in an Oregon Coast town known for cheese. We're all Yelpers here, right? So, we know the basic tenant that the hole in the wall places are often the hidden gems. But really isn't that just an urban tale? Turns out no, it is not, this really freakin' works. My friend, El Jefe, has raved about Luz from time to time. Last week I just happened to be making my way home from Coos Bay and decided to take a small detour to have lunch here with El Jefe. He went for the lengua burrito, and I went for a taco plate (two carnitas, one chicken) with beans and rice. Drinks are sold in bottles whether it is beer or soda or water. I like that. We sat and discussed all the things that were wrong in the world, and of course, came up with solutions. Soon after, food arrived, and we immediately forgot what we were talking about. The burrito was plump and filled with all the good things. El Jefe says the lengua never disappoints. The taco plate looked great. Three tacos laid next to a healthy serving of beans and rice. Lots of fresh pico piled next to that. The tacos were excellent, both the carnitas and the chicken. The tortilla was pillowy soft and had good flavor. Next time I am going to try the burrito because it looked good too. You should try this place, it might inspire you to solve all the world's problems. read more

Giovanni and the crew take a lot of pride in their menu and we loved the food so much, we ate at Luz two days in a row. Tripas were crispy and our favorite, lengua was tender and flavorful, the aguachile on special was fiery and refreshing. Tacos dorados were freshly wrapped/fried, topped with ample amounts of shredded lettuce, queso cotija, and perfectly ripe avocado. The dorados tasted better than most of the places we've tried in PDX proper. Their housemade horchata was a sweet treat and everything was extremely reasonably priced. We have a new favorite taco shop in the neighborhood and we can't wait to come back. read more

This is a jewel of a find for Mexican food in the area. I have eaten at several Mexican restaurants and a food truck in Tillamook and this place beats them all hands down. The carnitas street tacos are loaded with so much meat, that one is a meal for me! The meat is of excellent quality and this is now my go to Mexican food spot in Tillamook! Wife and I were craving Mexican food and pulled in, I looked at the place from the outside and said "nope" cause it looked a little strange as a restaurant and there were no cars in the parking lot, my wife suggested we try it anyways. Went in sat down and were greeted by friendly staff. After about 5 mins the place was packed! Glad we stopped because the food was delicious! Prices were amazing for the quality. The absolute filthiest resturant I have ever been in. Disgusting window sills. Grime everywhere. The kitchen couldnt get any dirtier. Dried food waste all over the trash can. I attempted to go to Luz for the first time tonight after seeing pictures of all their yummy offerings online. When walking in with my family, the guy at the counter just looked at us. I grabbed a menu and a few minutes later the guy asked if we were dining in or taking it to go, "to go". He then asked if he would wait to order our food for 15 minutes or so because they had a bunch of to-go orders so to leave and come back. Excuse me? Why not tell us the wait would be upwards of 15 minutes and take our order and money instead of refusing our business? I am an extremely patient person and would have gladly waited for our order, but to be told we couldn't order while there "Open" sign was on? Please.
