Fried Whiting Fish, potato salad, Cole slaw.

Let me preface this by saying I been living close to this place for years and tonight is the first time I've eaten here. Super easy to place an order for pick-up. Got the fried whiting with potato salad and coleslaw fried hard to perfection. Ordered a strawberry banana pudding that was as delicious as it sounded. Will definitely be finding out of the rest of the menu tastes as good. The place was clean and cozy when I walked in. A hidden gem we slept in for too long.

Sooooo good! I recently moved to this area and really wanted some good soul food but particularly good whole wings... after trying a few places I finally found the perfect spot! It's a cute mom & pop restaurant, (definitely screams "good soul food" if that makes sense) with great customer service! The wings were delicious and seasoned perfectly & I am particular about soul food and want it to taste as close to home as possible and I can say that this plate was just that. I got the 4 whole wings, Mac and cheese, collards and cornbread. Everything was good too. I will definitely be returning the only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the kind lady told me it was a 30 min wait however it was over an hour wait. I hate a long wait, but it seems like it's common with them, so next time I'll have to order a hour early which is crazy. But worth the wait!

Baked macaroni and cheese and candied yams and buffalo wings...yummy

Whether it's with friends or just the two of us, we've never been disappointed. Let's see how this visit went. We were immediately seated once we walked inside. It wasn't completely packed for a Saturday afternoon but staff was really busy with customers. The vibe was one that made us comfortable for the most part. After a few minutes of looking over the menu, we were ready to order. My selection was the Tavern Monte Cristo which consisted of chargrilled chicken and ham as the protein with Gouda cheese and cider aioli fried in a tempura batter with tavern fries. The meal was served hot and ready and tasted great. And having the cranberry coulis as a dipping sauce really added some taste. My only gripe with the sandwich was the amount of protein. I'm not sure if I ate most of it when we dined in, but when I ate the rest for dinner, it was more breading than anything else. Still good but they could've included more. Nonetheless, I was full. Good stuff as always from Park Lane Tavern :)

George's Restaurant is on Mercury Boulevard in Hampton, right across from Food Lion and Popeye's,…read morenear North King Street--right beside where the old McDonald's used to be. I actually met one of the owners while shopping at Games Farmers Market in Newport News. She spoke so passionately about her restaurant being a soul food spot that I knew I had to try it. I went within the week, and they don't open until after 3 p.m. (I believe they stay open until 1 or 2 in the morning). They even have extra parking across the street, which is nice. I went in by myself, and they told me I could sit wherever I wanted. Since I was one of the first people in there that day, the bartender/waitress greeted me with so much kindness. She went over some of the specials, and I ended up ordering the Rasta Pasta along with a drink--a Pineapple Upside Down (tea or lemonade, I can't quite remember). Whatever it was, it was delicioso. That drink was a 10/10--I'd go back just for that! When the pasta came out, it was served with garlic toast, and I also ordered some macaroni and cheese. The pasta was flavorful, and honestly, I've been thinking about going back for it again. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, but to be fair, I prefer baked, homemade macaroni & cheese--so that's just me, but it was good. While I was there, I chatted with several of the owners and the cook, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I even learned one of the owners is a veteran. The restaurant has a sports bar vibe, with TVs everywhere, music playing, and a DJ--it's lively, clean, and has a great atmosphere. I really love the vibe, the people, and how comfortable they made me feel. I'll definitely be back. If you're looking for good food, good people, and a good atmosphere, I'd say give George's a try--you might end up loving it like I did.

The drinks are too sweet and taste like straight sugar, bbq is okay (they offer only one sauce), and their sides are just okay. The service, however, was top notch. Our server was Colton (I think?) and he was the life of the party. He made our whole experience phenomenal. We all ordered off the happy hour menu, but I guess there's no buttons for the happy hour pieces, so he just tried to discount our food the best he could. We think it all came out okay, but didn't love not knowing. If you offer happy hour, honor the happy hour pricing with proper buttons. Basically, this place just feels like a restaurant that isn't prepared for customers, which is odd. I don't know how well restaurants in this area do, as this is the third restaurant in that exact location within 10 years. Maybe that's normal, idk. I felt comfortable and engrossed in conversation with the staff and other patrons in a way that had me coming back the next night for dinner again. All too often, the sports-pub vibe will let you down, but this place takes each item on its menu seriously and cares considerably about what they're plating in front of you. It makes me feel like something special is happening in that kitchen like the show "The Bear." If the bartenders ask you if you want the potato salad as your side because it's made in house, then trust him. He's telling you this for a reason because you're about to embark on a culinary experience of a lifetime. What I assume is typically a college bar, this place is quite a wonderful little find. Mind you, I happened to come through on two evenings during the summer holidays so maybe the vibe is different in October but I can't recommend it more based on my experience.

I came in for lunch today with 2 teenagers. We ordered a large cheese pizza. Not one of us ate a 2nd piece. The bottom of the crust was pretty well-cooked, almost burnt, so maybe that's why. It was tough and flavorless. Not at all like any other brick- fired pizza I've had. Would not recommend.

They were voted Best Burger in Newport News, so my expectations were pretty high. They absolutely did NOT disappoint. I ordered a plain cheeseburger with grilled onions and bacon, along with the chili cheese fries. BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN A WHILE! The burger was fresh, juicy, and exactly what I was craving. Everything came out super fast and tasted fresh. You order at the counter when you walk in, and if you're dining in, they bring your food out to you. Super easy and efficient. It does get crowded though. They also had a little market where they sell ice cream, pie, jerky's, snacks. I really wanted to try their soft serve too, but by the time we finished eating, there was a HUGE line, so I'm kind of sad I didn't get to try it. Guess that just means I have to come back!

I think the tater tots were my favorite part - they were the perfect crispness. Burgers were delicious but messy, especially when your kids don't understand how to eat a burger with the paper wrapped around it so the toppings don't drip out and fall apart. The grease didn't soak through the buns like other people talked about, but it definitely had some liquid coming off. Still, delicious! There were a lot of people in line to order when we got there, and we were worried it would take a long time, but the orders were coming out pretty rapidly and we didn't wait too long. They do have some coloring books and a puzzle to keep little kids entertained while waiting, which was much appreciated. They also have a small farm shop in the next room with various items for sale. Overall, we would come back to support the farm-to-table concept, but not necessarily because of the food.
