Thought I would give an updated review as I have had Lydia's cupcakes even after the wedding! I have been ordering a dozen cupcakes for parties every now and then since. People always ask me where is Lydia's Cupcakes and how to order from her. No matter the flavor they taste amazing. Lydia continues to consistently stay on top of her craft. I cannot recommend you enough for your wedding, get together, etc. Havent tried her cakes, but if her cupcakes are great, her cakes are probably as delicious. read more

We got to speak to Lydia herself when we tried her cakes and confections! She was so friendly and sweet, really just a pleasure to talk to. We ended up getting three cakes in a jar: red velvet with cream cheese frosting, vanilla cake with passion fruit puree, and a raspberry puree dark chocolate cake. All were fantastic. Moist, layered, good amount of frosting, and super flavorful. I love the fact that the cakes come in a reusable container too! Already ran mine through the dishwasher no problem and reused it. I got a jumbo chocolate chip cookie as well, and it was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, as it should be. Lydia does not disappoint! read more

I haven't made a review since my wedding but Lydia was a DREAM to work with. Our tasting with her was absolutely phenomenal compared to other bakeries we tried. We decided to go with her and I couldn't be more happy. I never got the chance to see her on our wedding day but our cake was everything we had dreamed of. On top of everything she gave us a pack of cupcakes for our wedding night in case we didn't get enough cake during our reception. My parents drove up from out of town. Not familiar with this area. They went to buy me some donuts one morning, and accidentally parked in front of her shop. As my parents were exiting the car she came out screaming and yelling at them. Working with Lydia was the perfect choice for our showstopper wedding cake. We found her at a wedding expo in Seattle and loved her samples. She has an impressive variety of cake and icing flavors. Unfortunately we didn't have the greatest experience. Upon entering the bakery, we were greeted poorly. My sister placed the order and I wasn't sure if the order had been paid for or not. I had my walled with me and asked if I still needed to pay, Lydia proceeded to tell me "I don't make sh!t if it isn't prepaid". I was shocked by the language and the unprofessional approach to my question. The cupcakes were super cute and looked great. We were bummed that she doesn't "decorate" cupcakes or use any color or sprinkles. We hoped that the taste and quality would make up for it, but they were just okay. read more

Came in to this awesome bakery a few times while living in Preston wA. Their cupcakes and cookies are exceptional. It's not easy to find this place in a Small shopping center corner near Stocktons but you will be so pleased if you try their baked goods. I am glad that I haven't found such a wonderful bakery in Chicago. At least I'm not eating sweets as much! The owner Lydia has been in business almost 10 years and she is awesome too! She's originally from Indiana so she understood why I needed to move from the area. Miss this place and if you stop in you just get their peanut butter cookies and their amazing cupcakes! Delicious treats! The pineapple cheesecake is heavenly and my husband agreed. After starting with small slices my husband asked for more until it was gone. The homemade marshmallow treats are fresh and soft. Don't leave the store without one of Lydia's apple pies YUM! I admit I like sweets a lot. But I'm picky too...I only want treats that are worth the calories. I was not disappointed! If you want a beautiful cake you'll be amazed by her artistry. Stopped by our trusted beer spot to support local business and we got a nice surprise from what I am assuming is the owner. She gave us a couple of cupcakes to try and they are amazing! The frosting looks like fluffy clouds and is to die for! The cake is moist and flavorful. The shop is cute and has a variety of sweet treats! The chocolate was my favorite it was a good decedent rich chocolate flavor. You can't be a good chocolate cake. I'd say stop by and give it a try, you can't go wrong with handmade treats that are delightful! We will be back to support our local small business! Please give them a try over a grocery store. Lydia was super helpful with deciding on flavors. She was able to accommodate my 2 dozen cupcake order placed a couple of days before my twins' birthday. The bakery isn't open on Sundays, so I had to pick up on Saturday and refrigerate until the next day. I had a taste of all of her everyday flavors (chocolate, vanilla, confetti and strawberry) and they were pretty good. We did an order of her banana cupcakes with cream cheese and they were yummy and not too sweet. Even when Lydia messes up, her desserts are still fantastic. I LOVED her ugly cookies! They didn't turn out how she wanted but boy they sure tasted good! Huge, gooey, sweet and totally worth it. I entirely believe cookies should not be hard. Shame on you Chips Ahoy! Cookies should be soft, buttery and pull apart like melted cheese. Her lemon bar was also a wonderful burst of tartness in my mouth. The crust was perfect and it's a large enough slice to be called a meal. Rich and decadent like a dessert should be. AMAZING. We had so much fun tasting all the different flavors and settling on a few for our wedding desserts. We had 13 small cakes (one for all the years we'd been together) and 1 larger cake for cutting etc. They were all amazing. They even brought us some extra cupcakes for a late night snack. Possibly one of the best bakeries I've been to. The cupcakes were moist and delicious. The buttercream and cheesecake frostings were lightly flavored and not overly sweet. My daughter and I enjoyed them thoroughly. If you look over her shoulder you'll also notice the amazing artistic cakes she makes. I look forward to getting one on my next occasion. I had to wait a week to write this review. I really expected this to be a great experience. I read amazing reviews and always want to support local places. I have owned and managed restaurants for over 25 years and I couldn't imagine treating anyone the way Lydia treated me and my order. I called and left a message. Lydia called me back and asked me about my order. I told her it was my daughters 15th birthday and I wanted something very special. I told her the name and that I wanted a special cake - I asked for a light lemon cake with strawberry or raspberry filling. She asked what her. Favorite color was. I told her teal or blue. That was it. She seemed very confident and told me a 6" cake would be perfect for 8-10 people. I said that was great. Never once did either of us mention money or what it would cost for my "special cake". I said I wanted something special and beautiful for my daughters party. She told me it would be $75 and I paid her. I picked up the cake and didn't even look at it. Busy day, busy party, 8 teenagers, late night and we stayed in a hotel. I told the girls at dinner not to order dessert because I got this amazing cake. Just so bad. Zero decoration. Not a word. Not a flower. Nothing. Horrible dark blue. To say we were all disappointed when I opened the box is an understatement. What is even worse is the cake was inedible. I mean ages 11-58 took one bite and that's it. Dry. Dense. Terrible. It was like some ingredients were missing. Or she made a pound cake or something. So I called. And not only was she rude and said that was "her recipe" and was supposed to be that way - she clearly didn't remember our short conversation AT ALL because she asked what I paid and said "well that's not enough for any artistry". What? I never said anything but I wanted a beautiful cake. She then basically said "I guess we should have had a longer conversation". I said. "Yes. It's your shop and you seemed very confident this would be the best thing ever". She offered me a 50% discount because "well, I made the cake." Yes you did. I said "we threw the cake in the garbage because it was inedible" and then she said. "Do you want a 50% GIFTCARD or not". Not. Not at all. I couldn't imagine treating anyone that way. I have comped full meals for much less. I cater and host big weddings and parties for a living. I was hoping to have a great experience and could use a local artistic baker. I will post a picture of the cake if can find one. I don't know if one exists but honestly it was awful. I have 9 eye witnesses. So it seems like Lydia may do great work. I wouldn't trust her for a party or a wedding. But not for us and she didn't make it right. She was rude, condescending, super defensive and truly unprofessional. read more

I needed to get a special cake for my wife's 60thBirthday and I wanted it to be better than what I could have bought a Safeway. So, I googled Lydia's in Maple Valley. When I arrived, I told Lydia that I needed a German Cholate Cake. Lydia said she was very sorry, but she doesn't do German Chocolate cakes. Well after talking her into the challenge, the cake was made. Although expensive, it was the Best German Chocolate cake my Wife and I have ever had! Now I know where to get something special.
