I was not only embarrassed by the quality of the bouquet (in front of my wife's entire office), but also that I paid $92.00 for it. Based on how Lydia's treats local clients, and how willing they are rip off their customers, I would strongly advise going elsewhere. My husband bought long stemmed light lavender roses from Lydia's on Valentine's Day. They have a chemical smell similar to burnt rubber with syrup poured over it. Due to the noxious odor they're pretty useless and can't be in any room that has people in it, and he refuses to drag them all the way back downtown to return them. Ultimately it is his fault for not actually smelling them before he left the store with them, but wow, what a massive disappointment and waste of money. read more

Flowers are nice, but the arrangement are quite boring. Perhaps less than ordinary flowers from the grocery store. However, I do like their small potted plants, as they have an interesting variety of them. And the prices for those are decent, and they will wrap in tissue paper and ribbon should you ask for it. read more

The flowers are very fresh, but the arrangements are B O R I N G. They tend to use a lot of gladiola and and mums, which is pretty old school. Any time we've purchased flowers from them we always laugh at the combos and style. We don't order from them any longer. Case closed. read more

This place was a life-saver after what was probably the absolute worst experience possible with an online flower delivery service. They are open until 7pm and located conveniently on Drumm next to the Hyatt hotel. It's actually a pretty large space, though it doesn't seem like it from the front. They even have a giant fridge inside for the roses and other fresh flowers! The inside of the shop kind of reminds me of an old-school local pet store. Potted plants and bamboo line all the walls and it takes a second to figure out where the front counter is from the entrance. It's also a little humid which makes you feel like you're inside a zoo exhibit. It's definitely a step away from bustling FiDi outside. Not only are they the only flower shop open this late in the vicinity (trust me, I've checked) but the prices are pretty reasonable! It likely depends on the type of flower, but for the most part pricing was average or just slightly above it, if anything. Even if you end up paying a little more than normal for your flowers, I'd say it's worth it for the convenience and service. They wrapped my plant beautifully with tissue and a ribbon at no extra charge! Will definitely be keeping this place in mind if I ever need flowers in a hurry again! read more

Lydia herself made the pretty yellow and orange cheerful arrangement. My daughter brought them to me so I'd feel better! She's 10 years old. Last month I went in to get two small pots of cactus and expected no more than a 10-second wordless transaction. The young woman behind the counter asked if I knew how to care for the plants. I replied no (embarrassed because catcus seems to be a no-brainer); she gave me very detailed instructions on how often to water the plants and how much sunlight they needed. I was very pleasantly surprised - very good customer service regardless of the fact that we were only doing $15 of business. I have little luck with plants at my cubicle, so I will most likely go back to get more in the near future :) read more

I work nearby and attended the Embarcadero Center Wellness Fair that was going on today...Lydia's Flowers had a little table set up with small potted plants that were marked 50%. The two girls working at the table both seemed knowledgable about their product and were very friendly. I decided on a cute pink and white orchid from them for $15 before tax (originally priced at $30). Since I did not have cash on me and needed to pay by credit card, the girl working at the table walked me over to their store. Another woman in the shop rang me up. She seemed to know a lot about plants. She told me how to care for my new orchid - apparently I need to be careful not to over water it, as many people make that mistake. Hopefully I can keep this thing alive for a while. It's pretty and adds a lot of personality and color to my cubicle. :-) read more

I'm so glad I came across this florist but after buying flowers from her on a regular basis, I can see how the quality of her flowers is superior to other florists in San Francisco and now I can't shop anywhere else. I have an obsession with flowers and would love to be able to buy a rose or a gardenia from random florists as I do my walking about town, but I can't anymore because I know they won't be as fragrant or as long-lasting and vibrant as Lydia's. I was all geared up and reading to write a scathing review here and they had to go and fix the problems, rush out the door, deliver some flowers, and make my girl smile and happy on Valentine's Day. Long story short, Teleflora gouges their flower shops for so much money, and overloads them with so much business, that Lydia's has to turn away some of the business. Long story short, my order, got turned away and Teleflora didn't reschedule it, send it to a new shop, or make any attempt to let me know it had been canceled. I was obviously quite irritated and angry, but when I called Lydia's, ready to go to the mattresses, the gentlemen who helped me fixed all the problems and left me happy and a future customer (the jerk, taking away my righteous fury!). Long story short, at 4:45pm on Valentine's Day, he rushed me off the phone, pulled together a beautiful arrangement with all sorts of purple flowers, her favorite color, and ran over to her office and delivered her. I don't buy flowers for women. Serious. Not even my mom. Oh, it's not because I'm a jerk, at least not in the case of not getting my mom flowers. She has really bad allergies and always warned me not to bring her any flowers when I was a kid and it neared an occasion like Mother's Day when kids would be sent home with flowers and cards to give their moms. Other women don't get them because, well it just never occurs to me to get them as a gift. I guess you can say that I'm just not inspired to get flowers, whether is be to butter a girl up or to make up for some perceived wrong. I've don't fine without resorting to pulling out the flower card in my dealings with women. That being said, I have bought flowers at Lydia's and they were given to a girl. One of two that have actually lit the flower buying spark under my ass. Don't ask me to explain it because I can't. It was a very nice arrangement though and the person helping me pick out the flowers made the process very easy. The first thing she asked me was what my budget was. After hearing what I was willing to spend and asking if there was anything in particular that I wanted to include she set about putting together a very nice selection of flowers. I took notice of Lydia's a long time ago though. Working downtown and frequently lunching in the area it has been hard not to notice. Just walking by you can see many beautiful flowers inside and overflowing out the the door. They seem to come in every size, shape and color. I have bought orchids for myself and Lydias always has more than a few interesting specimens in their shop that I will ogle on occasion. I haven't bought any yet though because I know it will just die and then I'll harbor resentment for having spent more money on a flower/plant that refuses to cooperate with me. They also put together a bag of rocky/sandy soil to use for a Plumeria plant that I had bought a couple years ago. It was growing beautifully with budding flowers and everything before it was knocked over and trampled by a visitor to the place where I live. If I ever work up the nerve to buy another Plumeria plant and try to nurture it out here in the Bay Area I'll be sure to ask them if they can prepare some of that soil mix for me again. read more

quite simply, flowers make me happy. the bulgy pinch-their-cheek cuteness of a pink peony. the coy bow of a bright yellow tulip. the wild vivacious look of a cymbidium orchid. they smile at me. they grow and bloom for me. and the longer they can do that, the longer i am happy :) my arrangements last me 7-10 days -- and Lydia will tell me when i pick flowers that wont. Lydia always has plenty of exotics in stock, and will arrange something for you that is different and diverse. her store is well kept and her service always friendly and honest. her blooms are on the pricey end, which is why it is minus one star, but it is the price you pay for the convenience and quality. i'm always looking for that next special bloom that will make my living room smile... read more
