I'm so happy and glad that I joined Lyfe Fitness Zoom class, not only because it's very convenient but because Jess our trainer is really a beast.

The facility is top-notch, super clean, and set up perfectly for a great workout. But what really stood out was the people. Scott and Thiago run an incredible operation--they were welcoming from the second I walked in and treated me like I'd been a member there for years. The workout was intense, well-structured, and exactly what I needed while traveling. You can tell there's a strong culture here and that they genuinely care about their members. If I lived in Santa Barbara, this would 100% be my gym. And anytime I'm back in SB, this is where I'll be training. Appreciate you guys for making me feel at home.

The coaches and members are incredibly welcoming, supportive, and motivating, and I've met some incredible people here. Huge shoutout to Tiago for creating such an awesome, positive environment. You can really feel the energy and intention behind everything here. Highly recommend!!

FS8, which is a blend…read moreof Pilates/yoga/tone in Thousand Oaks (which opened up early Feb of this year), definitely kicked my butt, so I decided to see what f45 offered. F45 is a cardio/resistance training blend. For an intro offer of $25 for 5 classes, I decided to see if this place would kick my butt, too. I met one of the instructors, Cara, who was very helpful and showed me around the place. There's a Pilates class in the back room and a sauna that you can use if you join for the F45 membership, plus an extra fee. Cara explained that the screens would show the movements we were to mirror, but she also told me to go at my own pace and helped me with my form during several of the stations. I went around the room 3 times (15 minutes total, 45 seconds at each station plus 15 seconds to transition to the next station) to get in a very sweaty 45-minute workout. I used to think I was in decent shape. F45 training laughed in my face as I prayed for the 45-second exercise to end, so I could transition to another 45-second exercise that I also wished were over. Somehow, I made it through the workout, humbled. This place is high energy and definitely challenges you mentally and physically. I look forward to continuing my F45 training journey!

There are two main reasons why I give F45 Training a Five Star rating…read more The first reason: these workouts aren't boring. That's super important because most exercise bores me. And if it's boring, I'm not going to want to do it. But that's never an issue at F45. I've found every session to be different enough that I never get bored. The classes are really well-designed. You know when you sign up what the focus of your class will be. There are usually 10 stations that you complete in 45 minutes, but the exercises at each station are different every class. Each station has two different exercises, typically one for the upper body, one for the lower body. You can choose to do either or both. The second, and most important, reason I give this gym a Five Star Rating is the trainers that work here. Especially the early morning staff, Josie, Lauren and Sarah. There are usually at least two trainers working every class. They continuously circulate around the room, so you never have to wait long for one to come by and check to see if your form is correct or if you need a modification. If you have difficulty doing an exercise, a trainer will instantly modify it or give you an alternative exercise. And that's another reason F45 gets 5 stars from me. See, I can actually do very few of the exercises as demonstrated. I need modifications at almost every station. But I know that in less than a minute a trainer will pass by and quickly modify the activity into something I can actually do. So, I always get a great workout here. F45 Training really is a great place to workout. The trainers that work here are incredibly supportive. There is a really positive, high energy, vibe here. Sessions often end with people high-fiving each other. I love that! Mikey C says: I highly recommend F45 Training!

Others are hired with no experience or physical fitness education (just like the owner). Owner is neither educated in fitness, nor does she care about injuries sustained here. But I will tell you what they very clearly do care about: MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY! I was a member for several months and paid a large sum of money to join a challenge that her location had put on. (She owns three F45 locations). Little did I know that it was all a stunt to have us be Guinea pigs for an app they were trying to launch. The app, which kept recommending that I eat 100x more protein than I normally do (and which is neither healthy, nor what medically trained nutritionists recommend for my age / weight / height) was designed to build heavy bulky muscle and NOT AT ALL THE BODY OR GOALS I wanted for myself. I wanted to lose weight and return to my lithe, lean, long body -- I have no interest in looking like a stocky body builder. I was, by far, the person who lost the most weight (25 lbs) and did so by eating a sensible diet, listening to the cues of my body, and NOT overloading on protein and fat like the app kept telling me to do. But I lost the challenge because...apparently weight loss wasn't the goal; the actual goal of the challenge was for the owner to get more money but to actually have customers **voluntarily sign up and pay for the privilege of being her guinea pigs!*** It was an attempt for the app owners to see the impact of the suggesting folks heavily ramp up protein/fat consumption. The winner of the challenge wasn't someone who lost weight or even gained muscle mass. It was the idiot who stated (and clearly lied) that he actually did eat the ridiculous amount of protein the app suggested on a daily, meal by meal basis. He won without any weight loss or serious muscle development. False advertising, total waste of time, and then AFTER the winner was announced, they mentioned for THE FIRST TIME that weight loss wasn't the goal.

I began working out here again and found that the floor was consistently filthy! It clearly wasn't cleaned daily and since many of the classes you spend on the floor, I was disgusted. After a few sessions I shared my concern with one of the trainers and asked her to pass the message onto the owner. There was no response. Then wrote an email to the owner to discuss my concerns about the cleanliness of the facility. Instead of discussing it with me, I arrived at my next session only to have the trainer pull me aside to tell me that the owner had TERMINATED my membership and they kicked me out. No phone call, no discussion. I emailed her asking her to discuss this. No response, coward. Even though she refunded my money she continued to charge me the next month for $195. Don't support owners that care about you but are only after your money.

My old gym membership had expired and it was time for me to figure out what I wanted to do next. I started researching some options: Yoga, Gym, Boxing, Pilates, Kickboxing, Private trainer and more. It's mind boggling but more importantly it's wallet emptying.. I was trying to find a place where I could workout whenever I wanted and not have to wait for a machine or make an appointment for a class but also not break the bank. 9Round is not only the best value compared to all the other options, but you can go anytime on any day within their hours (5am - 11pm). There are trainers there to help and guide you during specific times and there are also tv's at every station to show you how to do the workouts. There are 9 stations - and you will spend 3 minutes at each station w/a 30 second break between stations. The trainers are super helpful to show you how to do the workouts correctly, work on your form and even give you a mental push if you need/want it. The best part is you can go as often as you want, and the workouts change daily so you won't get bored of the same routine. It's very clean there and have yet to run into some of "those gym people" who are wearing makeup or cologne and want to be seen. Quick tip - if you want workout with fewer people or without a trainer on site, you can go during hours when they are not available. I usually workout between 1-3pm and it's a much quieter time.

There are accomplished martial artists... and then there are people like Graciela. Her level of skill, experience, and depth of knowledge is extraordinary, but what really sets her apart is who she is as a person. She is one of the most dedicated, generous, and genuinely giving instructors I've ever met. She doesn't just teach technique--she gives of herself. Every class, every interaction, you can feel how much she cares about her students and their growth. Spending time at CMA Martial Arts, you quickly realize this isn't just another school. There's a culture there. A feeling. It's disciplined, yes--but also deeply human. Respectful, supportive, and real. What impressed me most is her ability to connect across all levels. I've seen her work with adults--serious practitioners--and deliver high-level, no-nonsense training that commands respect. And in the same breath, she can turn around and work with children in a way that's engaging, uplifting, and full of heart. That balance is rare. She's not just teaching martial arts--she's shaping people. And as someone who has been in the martial arts world for a long time, I don't say this lightly: Graciela Casillas is one of the most accomplished and inspirational martial artists I've had the honor to train with. If you're looking for a place to train where the instruction is world-class, the culture is authentic, and the leadership truly cares--CMA Martial Arts is something special.
