I was t-boned yesterday by a Lyft who ran a red light. There was a police report, and apparently the insurance provided does not exist. Since the lyft thing was blazing in the windshield, i decided that i should at least report this guy operating a lyft vehicle without insurance. I have tried multiple times to file the accident report on the website AND in the app, but it keeps giving me an error message with the year in the date input. There is no way to correct this, and i even tried inputting different years just in case the glitch isjust with "2024". It still gives me the same error message stating that valid dates must be "2012 or later". I've tried the help section's suggestions, but none have worked. Beyond that, it just gives me a loop to nowhere. There is no phone number, or any other resources that will actually solve the issue. I'd happily provide docs on all ends. My friend actually died in a rideshare, because the driver ran a red light. i am now convinced to think that this type of business just makes the world broken and unsafe for the rest of us, cuz apparently there is no policy for these guys to NOT run red lights. Trying to get to the airport and my Lyft driver says they're stuck in traffic...no big deal. Then after a while their gps shows them outside of my residence but there is no one there. I call twice and am immediately disconnected. Then the ride starts and 30 seconds later the gps shows the drive 30 minutes away at the airport. I tried to submit a claim but the AI customer service stated that all charges were legitimate and I would not be refunded. This is not my first bad experience with Lyft, but it will be my last. App has been deleted and I'd rather walk to my destination than use this company even if it's half a days journey in foot. Cross your fingers that I don't miss my flight now. read more

The ride home from the airport was perfectly ordinary. When I checked the receipt, they had nearly doubled the ride time and charged me a bunch of extra money. They were nice enough to take the extra charges off when I complained and restored the price to what was originally quoted. Then they charged me $80 "cleaning fee" because a piece of plastic fell out of the car when I got out. This piece was obviously unattached before I got in the car because all I did was step out at my home. They refused to drop that charge with no explanation: "We did a thorough review"! I had an awful Lyft ride on 7/15/24. My Driver spoke zero English. He missed the u turn the gps was begging him to take. Missed the next left. Merged horrifically on the freeway. Got off at the wrong exit and had to get back on the freeway. Stopped in the right lane of traffic, making me get into the trunk in an active lane with cars rushing at me( right lane of 700 east in SLC). Of course my prescription sunglasses fell out in the trunk. 3 days, and dozens of texts later, still no sunglasses and no hope of getting them back. read more

This is a great service to have in SLC. I've used Lyft a handful of times all with fairly good results. The best thing is the convenience and cost. From my house to downtown is only $7, not bad. Drivers have always showed up quickly and I like being able to track their location. With Utah set to have the lowest bac level in the country (.05) even having one drink with dinner could make you legally too drunk to drive. Luckly Lyft is an affordable alternative. If you've never used Lyft make sure to find a promo code to use before signing up. Although tipping doesn't seem to be the norm as say with a taxi I still try to give a buck or two. You can even add a tip thru the app after you've been dropped off. read more

If you've been to a big city and used Uber, you are getting pretty much the same thing. Need a taxi, I mean ride share to a location around Salt Lake City? Then Lyft might be your answer. As a type of taxi service, Lyft relies on a smartphone app in which physical money does not exchange hands. You load up the app, add your credit card info, and request a driver. On the app you can see the current location of cars and after you request a car you get an update with the name of the driver and a description of the car. Then you input your destination. Once you arrive a notification pops up on your phone and you have the option to tip and review the driver. I have used Lyft a couple times in SLC and Uber in other cities and I find it very convenient. Lyft is $1.75 a mile and 25 cents a minute. The pickup fee is $1.60 and there is a minimum of $4.00. Not only did they over charge me, they refunded an amount that was not supposed to refunded and then they charged my other card which should never have been charged in the first place. Then I get charged for a driver canceled ride of 27.99 and then when a new driver was found they charged me 41.85 and then 30.71 for the actual ride and now they want another 32.71 for that ride. I really like Lyft. If you haven't used them I'd suggest you download the app and give them a shot. All transactions happen through your phone so no need for cash. If you're too drunk or if you're dealing with some drunks, ordering a ride is simple. It will determine your address for you. And notify the driver. You can then watch (in real time) as your driver approaches. You will also get a text message when they arrive. The other bonus is Lyft is way cheaper than cab fare. They say it's around 30% cheaper but in my experience it's been nearly half the cost of a cab every time. Lastly I've used Lyft around 8 times thus far. All of the drivers have been friendly and some even carry complementary water and treats which is a bonus after a long day of the drink. All in all great experience every time. read more

I use Lyft ALL THE TIME! I'm glad it's finally catching on in SLC. There are always lots of codes for discounted or free rides. Without discounts, it can be kind of pricy. I usually have to take a Lyft though because I wait til the last minute to leave like my car isn't broken right now, so I'm too late to take trax. It seems that around here it runs bout $5/mile. Love Lyft and everything they are doing in SLC. I just had my first experience and me of all people, no complaints. The ride was there in less than five minutes as I tracked my driver in his car coming to my location downtown on my phone. The car was clean, new, didn't stink and was in good condition. Allen was a friendly driver-- asked if I wanted to sit in the front, asked what station I wanted to listen to, and was an easy going laid back guy to have a conversation with riding to my Sugarhouse destination. I love lyft... Except the other night we requested a driver... He showed up at the wrong address. I described and told him The exact address. The app Sent him a block away. The driver was unfriendly, not receptive and told me just to request another driver but I would still be charged. I disputed the charge. Lyft responded the next night and said no charges would be reversed... Seriously!!! $5 for 4 minutes, the driver was rude amd navigational illiterate. I know it's $5 so who cares... I wish I could give them 0 stars. Use Uber. These drivers have no idea where they're going, and will charge you extra for their route, verses the quickest route. Check your charges too. They will tip themselves 20%. It happened to me. I was also charged a damage fee, for cleaning, because someone spilled food in the car, at some point during the night. I received texts letting me know that a driver was on their way, be ready, car is almost there. 2 minutes before expected pick up, I get a text telling me that my reservation was canceled and I had to go in and check payment info. Looked at info, everything was fine. Then ther app Told me that the next available lyft would be in 55 minutes! I ended up having to drive myself to the airport because I was going to miss my flight. Really great service and I am glad they are in salt lake. I've taken two lyfts so far and I've been very impressed. Clean cars and friendly drivers. It is a cool community. It is fun to chat with them. My lyfts are usually short and I am not spending a ton of money. The smartphone app is super easy to use and I am super pleased when the driver arrives quickly. Both my rides arrived in 7-10 mins. You can see on the app where the driver is. Super cool. It won't break the bank either, it is cheaper than a cab. I usually take public transit, however, it is not convenient on the weekends. Lyft was available when I needed it on a Sunday. We headed outside to look for Erik and a dark grey Toyota Corolla. Right as I was walking out the front doors I saw 'my lyft' drive off. About a week ago my wife and I found a charge on our debit card for Lyft. We don't use Lyft, we have never used Lyft, and we will never use Lyft. (So, not really their fault that someone stole our debit card number, right?) I called them to let them know that they had a fraudulent account and to see what they could do about it. The "customer service" person that I talked to was entirely unhelpful. She didn't seem to understand the problem, I had to give her my email address at least 4 times before she got it right, and my phone number at least twice (I'm still not sure that she got any of my information correct). I ordered the lyft because it was too cold to walk. I stayed inside to keep warm. When the driver arrived via my screen, I walked outside, but as I got close to the car it simply drove off. I yelled for the driver to stop, but he kept on going. To add insult to the cold temps, then I got a text stating that drive off costed ME $5. I have been without a car for a few months now and because of my job and lifestyle I really don't have the time for public transportation and when I call most cab companies I often have to wait 30+ minutes!. Cabs are very unreliable and have often made me late and I've been sexually hit on by many cab drivers which is very unprofessional. Lyft on the other hand, I have never ever had any problems. It's quick, the application allows you to see where your driver is at, who is picking you up and what they are driving. I've never had any sexual comments from lyft drivers they have all been very professional and friendly. Many of which offer water, gum or treats for the drive. I recently took Lyft from Salt Lake City Airport to the Hilton Garden Inn Layton for the Utah Travel Expo travel trade show. I picked up my luggage from the baggage claim and rolled out to the Lyft pick up at terminal 2. I put my computer bag in the back seat with me as it had important documents, electronics, as well as a good amount of cash. The luggage went into the trunk. The driver tried to engage in conversation, but I was reading emails and did not really return the active banter being instigated. Apparently, dust and dirt from baggage claim area to the airport sidewalk, got on my bag and wheels. I guess it had been snowing previously, but it seemed pretty dry now, however pockets of snow were around. When I arrived at my destination I had to maneuver my computer bag out of the car as I was on my phone, carrying my coat, scarf and other items. I stood just outside the rear passenger door adjusting my bags and finishing a phone call for a time. The driver Matt was right there observing, helping with the trunk bags, not saying a word, pleasant as can be (now I know why). So it was a huge surprise to find out that I was being charged a cleaning fee of $100 on top of the ride charges. After departing, driver Matt reported that dirt or soot (the white powdery stuff, usually in cold snow climates when they treat, or salt the roads) was on the seat from the bottom of my computer case and was worth collecting more money in fraudulent cleaning fees. I have heard of this happening before with Lyft, but never thought it would happen to me. Matt also took pictures of the back seat to document the "so-called" damage. In reviewing the pictures and zooming into the details of the images, it clearly shows it is just dust or dirt that could be cleaned easily by a damp cloth. There was an indention on the seat where the wheels and posts (plastic legs to protect the bottom of the bag) were visible. No surprise, as I just got out of the car. Much like when you sleep on a textured pillow and it leaves an impression on your cheeks or forehead. It does go away. Matt also stated that there was pet hair with a dog scratch. I do not own pets; do not travel with pets, and pretty much allergic to pet dander. Why didn't this driver alert me right away if there was a problem? There was plenty of time and opportunity to do so? In trying to resolve this situation it was relayed to me that Lyft sides with their drivers first, Lyft only takes information and images from their drivers first and we as passengers have agreed to pay up to $250 dollars in cleaning fees as deemed by the drivers perception of the truth. I asked to speak with someone direct, or have Matt validate the damage for verification. No can do, was the response. Lyft only contacts passengers by email or texts and will not be contacted directly. I had stopped using Uber years ago because of their questionable management and unethical business practicalities. Well, it interesting to know that Lyft (once the underdog) is now picking up where Uber left off. I guess that is why taxis are more expensive; they are regulated and have to take responsibility for their actions. Most important is that the passenger has rights and has some kind of recourse.
