It appeared as if the cake was done by a new baker who's just learning how to decorate cakes. The cake itself was tasty as well as the filling however there was so much icing before getting to the cake. The placement and pieces on the cake seemed a bit off on the cake and the shape was uneven, kinda lopsided. I don't know what happened with my cake, because their other work is beautiful. They also advised me wisely about what would be the best option for my budget. They made planning for the cupcakes from New York so easy! On the day of the shower, I picked them up from Crabtree Valley Mall. The cupcakes were giant, and tasty too, just a tad too sweet for my taste. The decorations were intricate though and beautifully done! The only reason they're missing the final star is when I arrived at Crabtree Valley Mall, the location had no bags. We chose Lyla Jones Bake Shop to create our wedding cake after admiring their work on social media platforms. For us, taste mattered just as much as the look of the cake and fondant can sometimes get a bad rap - so I went in for a quick consultation, enjoyed watching their cake artists design other works of art right there in front of me, tasted their marshmallow fondant and took home a few cupcakes for the family to taste back at home. Everything was delicious!! The design process was a piece of cake (pun intended) and communication mostly took place via email which is my preferred method of communication. They were responsive and informative and reasonable in cost. I sent an inspiration pic and they designed and delivered a cake we were 100% pleased with. Could not be happier! The edible gold was so pretty! My only suggestion for the bake shop would be to 'sign' email communications so customers know to whom they are communicating with. I wanted to share my experience with Lylas Jones bake shop at Crabtree Valley Mall. The cake in the picture above with two tiers is what Chloe's bday cake was to look like, but the bottom is what I was given. I actually added the Happy Birthday myself because it was so plain. I asked for one tier but to change the photo and band logo. As you can see they look nothing alike. I tried to talk with the staff and the gentleman argued with me that this is what I had ordered and we continued to argue until I said well I can just give my review on Facebook... and he then replied go to town because I have 5000 other likes! I at this point asked him to box the cake and I left. Three times I have tried to pop in shortly after they open at 10 (as listed on their page). And three times the doors were still locked. Someone inside not even looking at me. If they no longer open at 10 they should update their page. Because as of this review, it still says "10 am". They may be great but at this rate I will never know. So for the ultimate nit picky review keep reading. I ordered an 8 inch round cake in red with a graduation cap on the top. The cost was just under $130. The cake was chocolate and I paid extra for a raspberry filling. There was not enough icing on the cake. There was a thin layer topped with the fondant and the center held a decent amount. There was only one layer of filling. For a cake this size I really expected each layer to be cut in half and have more icing. The taste and texture were good except that the filling that I paid extra for had a fake flavor and I suspect they boosted it with a flavoring agent. Pretty much everyone left that part on their plate and that added to the feeling that there was not enough icing. The graduation cap was hand crafted and appeared so but it was eaten because my son loves the filling. The school emblem had been printed on fondant then cut out and placed on the cake. Overall it was neat and it was exactly what I had asked for. The most heard comment at the party was that there wasn't enough icing and that made the cake feel dry. read more

Now, I absolutely love sweets. This bake shop had the right idea putting a store front in Crabtree. I have only visited twice but I have yet to be disappointed. I've had the vanilla, vanilla cupcakes, I'm sort of a plain Jane, and they are moist. Not too sweet and you can eat the whole cupcake! I often find myself scraping some icing off of other cupcakes because they are too sweet but these are perfect! There is a cupcake god or goddess in that bake shop.
