Judging and the awards ceremony occurs late October usually a week or so before Halloween. This is our fifth contest and perhaps the largest we've seen to date, interest has been growing steadily since it began 6 years ago. Local vendors and artisans promote their crafts: jewelry, home made jams, jellies, preserves, bake goods, scarfs and artwork. The 4H club brings animals for display and petting making the event very interesting for younger children. This is a day of good wholesome family fun day, connecting attendees to rural life on the farm.

The amount of Heirloom varieties she has is really over the top (check the list on her website - with descriptions of the heirlooms) - and they are affordable! At a store like WholeFoods you will pay like $4+ a pound for a nice heirloom tomato (they usually weigh over a pound!), the plants are $3.75 here .. with a little care you could grow a couple hundred dollars worth of tomatoes for $15.
