I am very underwhelmed by this brewery. I tried the sideburns and the peanut butter sideburns. Neither was very interesting, and I didn't think the flavor was very distinctive. The cask beer is served at warmer than room temperature, which I thought was unusual. It really did not taste good being served so warm, and I didn't recognize any peanut butter taste to it. Service was slow and not particularly helpful. We ordered food from their pop up restaurant, which is an actual restaurant that has been around for a few years, and that was very good. A bit overpriced. I would give the food 4 stars. They used a lot of disposable and plastic items. read more

We met up with about a dozen friends at LynLake on a nice, hot June Saturday evening! They let me sample both sours and I ended up settling on the Sota Summer, which hit the spot on a hot day. You were able to get a drink pretty darn fast for the amount of people that were at the brewery. The rooftop is great on a summer evening. They have a handful of tables and a couple of fires going, which makes for a fun atmosphere. The inside is also inviting and has a lot of options for seating! The worst part is parking, which is by no means a LynLake problem but be prepared to pay for a meter or drive around a bit to find a spot. read more

Not a very wide selection of beers, just about everything was a pale ale or similar. The food in residence Chicks on Wheels was mediocre. The jambalaya tasted like box Zataran's, the jerk chicken taco was dry and needed a lime crema drizzle or similar. The barbecue sandwich was average. We did a quick drop in here on a tap room tour. This wasn't on the list for the night but we were nearby so - why not. I liked the space - with the bike rims and graffiti. Nice to see something that isn't all concrete/glass/minimalist. They had a band playing while we were there, which made talking difficult but it was good music. Lack of seating however and it seemed like the bar took up a LOT of room. There is apparently a rooftop patio but it was all closed off that night. I had a Rubbish that I thought was DELICIOUS. Very drinkable and refreshing. Though kind of steep at $6 for a standard on tap beer. Free popcorn gets you an extra star - yay! read more

I like LynLake. (Say that five times fast). I've been here a few times, but I came today for the Sota Summer tapping and rooftop opening. I really liked my sour beer, and my friend enjoyed his Rubbish. The downstairs is pretty wide and spacious, while the rooftop is a bit small for the big crowd it attracts (plus there's a lot of stairs, so once you're up, you're up). LynLake brewery has beer and popcorn and a rooftop, which are all great in my book. That being said, the beer is good - not great- and the service falls in the same bucket. Every time I've been there, they seem a bit understaffed, and when we went to the rooftop last weekend, there was no bartender up there, so we had to treck up and down the (many) stairs and wait in line at the downstairs bar to place our order. You can order food to be delivered so you can eat whatever you want - although, opening up a pop-up kitchen this Summer which could be very cool. They host trivia every Thursday, but it gets very packed, and the hosts aren't the friendliest - or even nicest people in the world. Very judgemental and quite frankly, rude. The only reason we go back is for the convenience of it - not for the spectacular experiences. read more

I finally did it. I went to a brewery with a pregnant woman that also happens to be one of my best friends/ Laotian sista. ***Checks box of "Things To Do In Jon's Lifetime." No, she did not slam any brewskies down her throat (that would also inebriate her baby via umbilical cord), but my girlfriend, brother, and Sarah (the one that's pregnant) and I had a freaking blast there. You would think she was drunk. THINGS TO KNOW: +Large open and airy space. +Hanging bicycle wheels. +Very clear menu written on the wall and above the main bar. +Plenty of toilets, each with individual rooms located in the back. (Everyone has to share a sink, though.) +Non-pretentious staff. +Tons of high-top tables and decent room at the bar. +The stairs to the second level seemed blocked off from the general public. Maybe it's only for private parties? Summer? ABOUT THE BEER: I tried one of their flights and several different pints. Overall, I dug most of them. Highlights: +IPA: Seems like one that's not too hoppy, which might appease non-IPA drinkers (like me). It's not too floral and hoppy, and I liked it! +Stouts: Solid. +Amber: Yum! FOOD: LynLake Brewery also provides a delivery menu on each table. The food options are Galactic Pizza, Pat's Tap, and Taco Cat. We ordered two items from Pat's Tap: -Fried Walleye Bites: Nomzzz. This place is awesome! It is the perfect atmosphere to spend on a Friday or Saturday night with friends. Have had to wait in line both times I went but it did not take long. The ceilings are really high so the place doesn't feel crowded or loud. We started out with a flight, which comes in a really cool holder. All the beers were good and I could have gone with any of them but I decided to go with the Take 6 IPA and really liked it. We ordered Taco Cat using the instructions on the table and had to wait 45 minutes to get delivered.They have a list of restaurants you can order from that will deliver straight to your table. Then we were able to enjoy good craft beer and great burritos! Lynlake is in a great location that is in walking distance from a lot of restaurants and bars. It is pretty casual and a great spot if you want to meet up on a date or with friends just for some drinks. You don't have to deal with the hassle of feeling pressured to order food by a waiter but can order food from an outside restaurant on their list if you really want to. read more

Great spot to stop at when hitting up the local watering holes in the area! The Menu: Fair amount of choices for your craft beer lovers, however, none to my taste, which was fine to learn since I got a Flight of Beer to try and didnt feel like I wasted my money! The Vibe: I felt immediately at home here. The space was open and inviting, the windows were open and the tables had a great set up for socializing with new friends and old. I loved that the middle was the bar area that you could order from or just sit to enjoy the beers. While I got the flight and personally did not like the beers, the flight itself was unique. Made out of copper pipe and welded together, it was a great differentiator to other breweries that offer flights. The bicycle wheel lighting provided a unique ambiance that allowed for the perfect amount of light for all types of reasons why individuals were there. The lighting worked well for date night, social gatherings and even if you are by yourself. The day I went it was raining, but they have a nice roof top deck with 2 large fire pits, perfect for gathering around and enjoying one another's company. read more

I was pretty excited to check this place out based on the reviews. I went on a Sunday night with a small group of friends and it was reasonably packed with hipsters for a football game. The server was nice and approachable so 5* for him, but everything else was lackluster. We aren't beer snobs but we aren't bud light drinkers either. Usually if someone doesn't like a beer that they ordered it isn't a problem finding a volunteer to finish it. We had five people order four different beers, and even after passing around the disowned beers only one beer was completely finished (but that guy will drink anything). We all had the same reaction to each of the beers- boring. The beers were not cheap either at $6-8, so it says a lot that we would opt to just leave four beers with a significant amount of beer unfinished. This place has a great atmosphere with awesome decorations, tons of seating, and super friendly staff. They didn't have a lot of beers that I was interested in but the bartender was very nice and helpful and let us sample a few before we purchased a glass. I enjoyed the Razzy Rubbish and their in-house root beer. Only $12 for two glasses of fresh beer and a glass of craft soda. Parking can be a little tight as it's on a popular, busy street and shares a lot space with Herkimer Brewing next door so take the 21 or 4 bus instead of driving. I am a huge fan of taprooms. Which means that I might have a bias in this review. But it ALSO means I am a little critical when it comes to my judgement. So with this place we can go through the checklist and start right at the top: The place is in the thick of Lyn-Lake. You may take this as being a little heavy on the traffic and a little light on the available parking. But I take this as: should I need to transition from one spot to another - options prevail. But walking up on the joint is pretty nice. It has a marquee similar to a 60's movie theater which is pretty novel. And if that doesn't grab you the front windows roll up creating a 'hightop to tha sidewalk'. The lighting a decor featured bike wheels and unpainted steel pipe. Reference the chalkboard on the wall (I always am kinda a sucker for good chalk-wall art/lettering) for the available taps. I DON'T recommend the flight. Just about every beer available besides the flight beers are better and deserved to be tasted. The tables have what look to be the same type of food adverts you see on the table down at TGIFridays except they have menu's from local places that will DELIVER. One of those stars up top goes straight to this. Genius guys.... GENIUS. Definitely coming back. The first couple times I thought to myself "maybe I just came on a bad day" Well, I've made up my mind and this place is OK hence the two stars. They have a small selection of beers that a pretty good, but it's almost impossible to get the bartenders to notice you. They always have an attitude that screams 'I'm here to do the bare minimum'. Aside from the service from not being very good, they book local music, which I was excited about, until I realized their sound system is terrible and you just hear loud loud noise. LynLake Brewery is a trendy, spacious and inviting place to relax with a beer (or two). The decor is industrial and the music is indie-chill. Both of which I love. Their "patio" for me was the big-sell. It's a rooftop! They have benches and tables with fire rings/circles for when it gets chilly. There are two separate bars here so you don't have to make a lot of trips when you're ready for another round. (Bar on the rooftop and main bar down below). I spent all of my time on the rooftop patio but I did notice the front of the brewery. The front of the building has open windows at the bar so it's almost as if you're sitting on the street patio. Hard to describe, just see it for yourself ! I definitely want to go back. Oh yeah, and the beer is great! read more

I don't know what I love more...the fact that someone did something awesome with the old Lyndale Theater, or the fact that there's finally a full-on brewery in Uptown. Thankfully there's no need to decide...I'm just happy they're here! The space is really incredible. There's a 4-sided bar in the center of the taproom, counters near the front entry with windows that open straight up to the sidewalk, and the cherry on top of this old theater is an expansive rooftop patio, complete with taps and fires to keep you warm on chilly nights. The staff is really friendly and service is fast. They don't have food, but there are plenty of places nearby that deliver (including WSK and Taco Cat), or you can bring your own. They're open later than some other breweries around town (11pm most nights and 1am Fri + Sat). I have just 2 small complaints with the LLB operation: it's not dog-friendly, and they don't fill non-LLB growlers (although they only charge a $4 deposit). Other notables: All day "Hoppy Hour" every Sunday w/ $4 pints of a particular brew. Trivia Mafia 8pm every Thursday night (prizes include LLB gift cards). The Beer Lowdown: LLB typically has a wide selection of beers on tap, including their 4 flagships, a couple casks, a couple nitros and a range of seasonals. Here are a few I've tried... Sideburns Milk Stout - Although I've had this flagship brew a few times, my favorite was when I had the coconut cask version...YUM! It was so smooth, rich in flavor, and had just the right amount of sweetness and coconut flavor. I would definitely get a pint any time they have it on tap! I give it a 4.5/5. Yea-Yea APA - Surprisingly this is my second favorite of all of the LLB brews I've tried. Surprising because I don't normally care for beers that are golden in color, but this is not what I would consider a light beer as many of those are. Yea-Yea is easy drinking pale ale that's not too hoppy, but still has good beer flavor. I say 4/5. Take 6 IPA - This is another LLB flagship beer, and it's a pretty standard IPA. It has a fair amount of hoppiness to it, but it isn't too bitter. My one complaint is that it doesn't have a stand out flavor profile. For that reason I mark it at 3.5/5. It would be better if they did an infusion of some sort. Rubbish Oat Amber - Rubbish is a Scottish amber ale that looks like a red ale and tastes like it's been aged in a whiskey barrel (but to my knowledge it hasn't been). This Flagship beer is just ok...3/5. Y2K Double Black IPA - If I were preparing for an apocalypse, this would NOT be the beer I would stock up on. I personally prefer my dark beers to be smooth, which this is not, and it was too bitter even for my hop-loving tastebuds. The verdict: 2.5/3. If you're looking to take some of their brews home, they offer growlers, but they only fill their own. Cheers! read more

This place is simply constructed, simply decorated, all in order to make you focus on one thing: the beer. And the beer is what this place does the best. I came here very close to closing time on a Saturday before my flight home the next morning. The inside is a lot of high tops centered around a wrap around bar. Perfect for socializing. We sat down at the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender who promptly recommended selections based on our preferences. I decided to get a 4 beer sampler to try the selection. Was not disappointed with any of the beers! Even the IPA I got, which I'm not a fan of the type of beer. The sideburns was my personal favorite: an oatmeal chocolate milk stout. Fantastic. It was nitro brewed with the cleanest finish. The price for the beers itself was anywhere from $5 to $7. Definitely reasonable for Minneapolis. Overall: a great place to enjoy beer. LynLake Brewery has a nice ambiance and layout but mediocre food options. We came for an after-work happy hour and tried many of the apps. Unfortunately, options for fresher fare are extremely limited. You'll find mostly greasy bar food, such as waffle fries, fried cheese curds, and nachos - and not especially high-quality ones. From the fried food to the guacamole to the spinach dip, everything was pretty bland. Drink-wise, they obviously have many beers available, which I assume are all fairly standard quality. Since we were there fairly early, we had the place pretty much to ourselves, which was nice - though I imagine it wouldn't be quite as pleasant if it's packed on a weekend evening. The staff were friendly enough, though we didn't interact with them much. If you just need to get a beer, LynLake will suffice. But if you want to enjoy good grub as well, look for other options. read more

My hipster nightmare went as follows: Called ahead to ask if they had growlers. "Absolutely," they said.  I walked in and asked for a growler of apricot ale. "That's small batch. We don't sell that in growlers." I asked if I could buy a to-go pint. Nope. My friend asked if the batch was smaller than 64 ounces. Um.... We walked out.  It's BEER. I've been to a breweries all over the country and never been told growlers are limited to certain drafts, unless it's on a barleywine or Belgian tripel; you know, something where it makes sense not to sell a growler because of cost or alcohol content or local laws. But this is a straight-over-the-middle-of-the-plate request for two quarts of 6% ale. Wanna charge me $10 a pint? Fine. Want to not sell it to me at any price? I DON'T GET IT. Obviously, any business can sell however it wants, but I'll never return here. If you're a Gen Xer who doesn't want to explain how most transactions work to a twentysomething dweeb, joim me in letting this joint starve. read more

The selection of beer is decent, flavors are good, not great, which for me is the ultimate judge of a brewery. The location is unbeatable for me because I can walk here; if you are driving, you might consider a ride because parking is scarce. There's a ton of seating and when I was here in June, there was ample distance between parties. Screening, including temp taking, took place at the door which was nice. read more

Went here on a girls night and the beer here was fantastic! That really isn't a place you would go to get dinner, but more of just a social drinking session as they don't have a kitchen so your only source of food is to order out from their approved delivery menu. Drinks - They have a really good selection of beers and the staff there (of course) are extremely knowledgeable of the beers! I had a hard time picking out something I would like to drink and the woman that was serving us was fantastic in helping me pick the right one! My favorite of the beers had to be the Blueberry Infused Mallard. Oh my goodness is that an amazing beer. It was so good that I got one of their roadies to-go so I would have it on Easter Sunday! I love going to microbreweries that let you take home a 750ml growler vs a huge one, I usually end up wasting large growlers but their roadie was the perfect size! *NOTE: Growlers and Roadies need to be off the site by 10PM so if you plan on drinking late, you might want to buy one and put it to your car! Service - Even being here on a busy night the service was great. Very quick! The staff are super friendly and helpful. Its always nice to go somewhere, especially a busy place and still get amazing service. Food - As I mentioned earlier there is no kitchen on site but they have a menu that lists a couple places you can order from for food that will deliver there. There are different options from pizza to asian. The prices seemed reasonable but you will also need to pay the delivery fee and tip so it could ad up if you aren't ordering with a group. Check out the sidewalk seating, the interior decor (bike rims hanging from the ceiling), huge TV projection on the wall, free popcorn and not to mention the rooftop patio with great views. The LynLake brewery definitely adds a much needed dimension to Uptown. It helps fill out Lyndale in a way such that one could bounce around for hours and successfully avoid Calhoun Square altogether, which for me is ideal. The space is really cool, inside and out. The high ceilings inside and the often times open windows make it feel spacious, even when it's crowded. They also host pub trivia with Trivia Mafia which I am especially a sucker for, bonus points for that. My favorite spot has to be the rooftop though, some picnic tables are all you really need with this awesome location. The beers themselves have never really knocked my socks off. I usually get the Rubbish or the Side Burns Stout which are both good enough to order a few of, but I would definitely never buy a growler of. Like, ever. I should give this place five stars based on how often I'm there, but the beers really have to take precedence here, they are a brewery after all. read more

Stopped in on opening night to a very busy taproom- a line quickly formed outside as the place reached capacity. Even with a full place, I found some great seats at the front looking out onto Lyndale- I can't wait to sit there in the summer with the windows open. There's also a lot of high tops, a huge bar, and some other tables. I hear rumors of a rooftop deck for summer. The beer was super solid. Nothing crazy or out of left field, but I really enjoyed my IPA and the stout. I also ordered a tasting flight (5 beers for $7.50). Can I just say how great the customer service was? There was rarely a line for beer, and once I placed my order, two other staff asked if I was already being helped. It seemed like a well oiled machine. The gentleman who poured my flight also took the time to go through and talk to me about each beer, which was appreciated. Overall, I'm so pleased this is in my neighborhood and I don't have to trek to NE for a fun taproom experience. With Muddy Waters across the street, I see some yuca fries and beer in my future. PS there was no line for the women's room and 2 dudes in line for the men's room. It was like a magical unicorn experience- that never happens! read more
