Make sure you reserve tickets during the pandemic. After the museum, spend some time outdoors at the Menil Park. This a great spot for a hangout with friends or a picnic in the field. While you have time, walk over the Rothko Chapel next door as well and enjoy some time in front of the Broken Obelisk structure. The Broken Obelisk is an iconic sculpture sitting atop a reflecting pool. Six of these sculptures exist across the US and the one in Houston was dedicated to MLK at the request of John and Dominique de Menil in 1971. Parking is available on the streets surrounding The Menil. The park is within a neighborhood in the Montrose District of town. This park may get busy during peak hours, but there is always a parking spot available. Just pay attention to the no parking signs as Montrose is a heavy tow district.

Saturday (April 23) was such a beautiful day with just the right amount of sunshine and wind. A great location for a super affordable and low key date! Just grab your favorite snacks, a book, and a blanket! It's even quiet enough that you can take a nap and there's a cute swing attached to a tree too!! Super clean park. Very family friendly and I saw several people bring their dog(s). Available free street parking (on the weekends) and this park is near University of St. Thomas. Also, The Menil Collection art gallery is just walking distance and admission is free! The only con to this beautiful and well-maintained park is that there's only one trash can!!!

That goes to show a lot of people don't know about this part because if they did, this would have over 2000 reviews like the side of it. If you're from Houston, I suggest you come by here and walk this park. Lots of Texas history. Lots of old homes. Just an amazing place to walk. I'm blown away that I've never seen this before. Thankfully, that I got to see it this morning. If you're visiting Houston and you're not from here, this is a must stop. Local or not this is a must check out. I didn't see too many homeless people hanging around so you don't have to worry about that other than that, though I highly recommend checking out this park. You can do guided tours and pay for that or you could do a tour by yourself and just simply scan the QR codes or download the app to get the narrative version of each house. Beautiful views of the city and the back of the nice buildings behind this park. I had no idea that old cabin was even right there in the heart of downtown with all of the other homes. This place doesn't disappoint. Enough parking, there was security on site as it's not overall the safest part of town, clean bathrooms, and lots of picnic/seating areas. There is very cool unique artwork done by different artists scattered through the trails. Lots of unique designs you won't find anywhere else in Houston. The main attraction is the structure at the top of the hill. You can't miss it. It's a little steep but there are many different ways to get up there. It gives you a view of Houston and downtown you can't get anywhere else. A very calming spot that is sure to become popular as time goes on. Great spot to take photos and exercise. This is no doubt my new go-to park! Can't wait for more Houstonians to check it out.

So, someone at HQ needs to update the name to something other than Harris County. Anyhow, I come here to park my car and ride on the bike trail on the opposite end of Brays Bayou. It's the beginning of the trail system. But parking is scarce. I can only come here on my weekdays off. There's no way to exercise at this tiny park. It has a paved asphalt path of less than 100 feet long and 10 feet wide. It's like a long driveway. It has a gully at the end of this fenced pavement. It's fun to watch hundreds of birds playing on the bayou bed. No, you can't go down there to play with them. The major attractions of Stein Family Park are the giant play area surrounded by well-maintained grassy area. I talked to a maintenance guy. He said the entire play area is available for rent. Besides play sets, there are picnic tables, BBQ stands and fully functional restrooms. He told me he comes daily. I don't know the cost, but you can find it by calling the number on the sign.

Schwartz Park has lots of playground equipment, a basketball court, a large swimming pool which is only open during the summer months, two tennis courts, a softball field, a baseball field, walking trails, picnic tables, benches, water fountains and mature shady trees. There is plenty of space for kids to play and be kids. The park is open during daylight hours.

I first visited when I moved to Houston, thanks to their free fitness classes, and this particular Saturday was no different. I appreciate that there's nearby street parking--some free, some paid--which makes it easy to access. What surprised me was that the yoga instructor didn't show up. Thankfully, one of the attendees stepped in and offered to lead the class. She had just completed her yoga certification, and it ended up being a great session. It just felt good to be outside, breathing fresh air and hearing birds chirping. Since my last visit, they've added a sunshade above Midtown sign (I love when they get different artists to ass designs to it!). Thank God! It made the sun much more bearable and gave us some relief during the class. Bagby Park is small, centrally located, well-maintained and always draws a good crowd due to the taco stand nearby. Any time there's green space in Houston, I'm grateful. It's a refreshing break from all the concrete and shopping centers.

Enjoyed a lovely late afternoon to evening at Hermann Park Garden Center…read more Numerous 2020 graduates put and about taking photos. Many families enjoying the day also. We walked a total of three hours around this and other park vistas. Beautiful day/evening! Japanese Garden near by was nice. Also near by was a veggie garden. All finds of herbs, too! One is where we get Vick's vapor rub from. Smelled just like it! Loved the water fountains and even though I didn't get to go, there is a lake not to far from here. So much to do and so little time! I'll be back and plan better!
