Such a good spot for food and drinks! i've been here for dinner once and really enjoyed myself. It's a little crowded for dinner for my taste (it is a bar first and foremost), but I've been here a few occasions for drinks with friends and really enjoyed myself. The bartenders are always very open and friendly, treating strangers and regulars alike. The TVs are distracting for me, and I typically do bars with friend groups, so I'm not here too often, but they always have soccer or other less mainstream sports on (such as tennis or cycling), which is fun. There's not a ton of room, but it's cozy and the front outdoor patio is nice for stepping outside. Mes Que is practically a Hertel staple now, it's hard to be disappointed with it! read more

I definitely enjoyed my experience at Mes Que. it was my first time visiting and I wasn't disappointed. The drinks were mixology level good. They also have good beer. I had a unique milk shake consistency beer. Give it a try for something new. The bread olive oil and balsamic was delicious. I was stuffing my mouth with bread before I knew it. Mes Que specialty is small plates. The portions are perfect for lunch. All the food was delicious and plated well. I would definitely return and try the risotto. This is a good place for a date. I didn't get a chance to eat anything here. I just met up with people for drinks and I must say that it's a pretty nice place to just sit and have drinks. They have an extensive menu for drinks including beers, wines, and cocktails. They also have a decent drink specials list. The theme here is definitely soccer. I think thats a nice change from most bars that typically only have ESPN on. Don't get me wrong, I like watching other sports, but I'm digging the soccer theme here. Although it was raining yesterday when we were there, we decided to sit out on the patio. Apparently it's been recently done and it looks great! On a nicer day, sitting out on the patio would've been perfect. The staff here are also really great. The bartender was very nice and seemed to be enjoying his job. The other staff are great as well and I noticed that they were regularly monitoring the cleanliness of the place, which you definitely don't see often at bars, especially ones that are full of people. I think this is yet another great place on Hertel Ave that adds to the charm of North Buffalo. It's definitely a nice place for drinks. Next time I'd love to try out the food. The space here is very limited, especially when there are soccer games going on. I appreciate a bar that actually plays and centers themselves around US and international soccer. It's definitely hard to find a place like that. I would not recommend trying to eat here though. Like I said, the space is very limited and there and not many options for sitting down, especially during busy times. I ordered a duck panini from here and while it was some what tasty, I was not impressed. The bread was kind of soggy, which turned me off to it. It came with a small salad and some pistachios as well. Their menu is not very large and is a little more pricier. So I may have just ordered the wrong thing or am a food snob. I wasn't super impressed with this place. The service though is fantastic the nicest people work here! What a nice surprise! Més Que is a tiny little bit of Europe in the neighborhood. Food is outstanding, wine and beer list is outstanding, and they show proper football (soccer for American readers). Décor is great, service is outstanding. I've said once if I've said it 1,000 times, bars and restaurants in Buffalo have to cater to a very low-end, provincial crowd. If Buffaloanians believe a place to be too *fancy* or expensive (even if it isn't) it won't do well (just read some of the reviews above). Más Que is very un-Buffalo, on the chill and quiet side, so if you're looking for an obnoxious "sports" bar that shows Bills games and serves greasy trash to loud, obese "fans" with 50 cent drafts, then stay in your own neighborhood, this place isn't for you. However if you'd enjoy a fine relaxed evening in the company of other sport (notice there is no "s" there) aficionados, with some fine food and drinks without breaking the bank, this place is a real gem and an outstanding addition to the Hertel strip. read more

Global events like the World Cup have evoked yawnbombs from red-blooded Americans for generations. What about the dedicated fans? Where does someone in love with the game go to watch matches big and small with like minded individuals who get it? In the past we have had to settle for the odd TV set up at Cafe Aroma for the World Cup, or huddle around each other at a friend's house to watch the FA Cup. No more! We now have a pub dedicated to, and operated by, people obsessed with the beautiful game. "But Jay, 'Mes Que' isn't even proper Spanish. Snort. Chuckle. What gives?" Sir, or Madame, listen and be educated. "Mes Que" is a wink and a nod to soccer fans, and is in fact a shortened version of FC Barcelona's club motto "More than a club", or in the Catalan language 'Mes Que un Club" - signifying the importance of the game, the team, and Catalan culture. The owners here are hard cores. Big time. I came here to watch Chelsea FC against FC Bayern Munchen last Saturday, and I have to say I'm very impressed with this pub. Even if you didn't give a damn about the game, you would have to admit this place is really, really nice. The ceiling, the lights, the wood of the bar - they all contribute to the feeling that you're in a nicer than average establishment. There are two flat screens behind the bar, and another flat screen or two on the opposite wall where the tables are located. I can't believe I'm going to do this, but I have to say the bathrooms here are really nice. WAAAAAYYY above average for a pub in Buffalo. Feels like a hotel in there. For the Champions League game they had a special menu of small pizzas. I tried two of them. The first had shaved ribeye, hot cherry peppers and provolone for $8. The second had chorizo, arugula pesto, roma tomatoes and manchego for $7. Personally I felt that the flavors were fine on both, with the chorizo pie being my favorite of the two, but if I'm going to nitpick something I'll say the dough was too chewy for my taste. The beer. It is a bar, and the beer does matter to me. There is something for everyone on the beer list, from beer noob to beer snob. But what about the atmosphere??? That's why soccer fans come to a place like this. So having seen nothing of their menu or anything else, my wife and I went to Més Que with hopes of watching a "football" game or two. When we arrived, it was clear this was far from a proper football bar. I'm ok with "fine dining" but this is just...sad. It's trying too hard and doing a terrible job at it. But lets highlight some key points; *Two TVs behind the bar *No audio even though a game was on *The patrons were dressed up, far too night for a proper football bar *The pizza I tried was ok, but the sauce was too much and too rich for the toppings they had selected This is basically a "fancy bar" with two TVs that show football...if only to keep the facade that they are a "Soccer Bar"...quite pathetic. Had they actually been presenting the game properly, you know, with audio and perhaps some memorabilia from clubs (football clubs)...perhaps then I could have forgiven them for the lackluster food, but no, this is definitely not a place for football fans. If you want drinks and OK food, go to Més Que, if you want to actually enjoy a football game, have a few drinks, and perhaps socialize with other fans, this is definitely NOT the place to go to. EDIT: As I have learned in my short time living here the Buffalo area, people have...bad taste. Or perhaps low expectations. I enjoy a beer here and there, but it's not my life, and with Buffalo, it seems you need to have a few in your system before you eat. I hadn't been to Mes Que but have always wanted to check it out. I called a couple of weeks prior to my wife's birthday to see if they had any special events going on that evening. The staff member I spoke with was really nice and said that they would be happy to accommodate a group of 15 for my wife's birthday. Everyone who came on the night of the party had a great time. The drink selection is great for both beer and wine. They even through in 3 pizzas and a cheese plate on the house because of the large group I bright in. Mes Que is a little bit of soccer paradise in Buffalo. During the World Cup Mes Que essentially shut down part of the street to screen the Cup for fans. They have created a place where soccer fans can come to watch any game you can think of, they have TVs that show the games on all the time. Aside from the sports part of the bar, they have really great drinks. My favorite is the mule selection. They go beyond the standard Moscow mule and offer a huge variety. They also have a great beer selection and it's different from a lot of other places on Hertel. They really embrace the European beers. and they also have your standard bar beers like Bud and Blue. I haven't eaten here yet, but I hope to soon because I've heard good things about the food. I'll update my review to include food once I have tried it. read more

Més Que has become one of my favorite places to meet up with friends for drinks. They put a lot of love into each cocktail they serve, and they always ask to make sure you like it. The atmosphere is very relaxed (when there's not a soccer game on) and the patio is great for people watching out on Hertel. My wife and I wanted to try something new nearby with good beer. I knew Mes Que was a hit among soccer fans but I had no idea how great their bar, food, and service would be! Our server Maddy was a ray of sunshine and the food was great. I had the Chorizo, roast, rice, and beans (I love gumbo so this was a no-brainer) and my wife had penne with chicken and pesto sauce. The beer selection was solid as well. I enjoyed two different Flying Bison selections: The Rusty Chain standby and their Scotch Ale, which I'd never had. Again, Maddy was wonderful and we want to give Greg a special thank you as well for going above and beyond. Admittedly, I have not yet tried their food so I can't comment. The menu looks great but a little pricey. This is not a "sports bar" by any means - higher end food, not "bar food." That said, you really can't beat the bar here. Specifically: beer selection and price! Their draft list consists of various beers that I have not seen elsewhere (I have a friend who is from Czechoslovakia and they have a Czech beer which made her so happy and homesick). And how about this: Flying Bison Rusty Chain on draft for $3!!! Not even limited to happy hour!!! For those who like a little fruity flavor to their beer, they have the rare, sought-after Lambic in bottle. Delicious, especially if you're not a big beer drinker. Tastes more like a cross between a malt and a beer. If you're not a beer snob like myself, get a domestic (Labbatt, Bud, Mich Ultra) for only $2.50 at any time!!! You can't beat that deal, especially when you're on Hertel at a higher-end bar. The televisions are great and I can tell that this would be a great place to watch soccer. I wasn't terribly impressed with the bartenders; they were a little snooty. Overall, a great place to get a good, inexpensive beer. I hope to eventually try their food. read more

To call this a bar where you go to watch soccer is true, but doesn't do justice to the fact its probably also one of the coolest bars in Buffalo. The cocktail menu is extensive, and ranges from the classics to some very well-conceived originals. The thing that won my heart was the beer list, which offers some local craft brews, but highlights a lot of excellent European and Euro-style beers (especially nice lagers) that seem to get ignored in the craft beer culture. The food menu is pretty simple, but everything we ordered was excellent. Strong on European meats, cheeses and sausage, but not exclusively. At one point during our dinner, the bar cleared out and we were briefly the only table that was filled. The playlist was perfectly chosen for the moment, and at a volume level that allowed us to actually have a conversation without shouting at each other. I love that kind of thing. We went around 7pm on a Tuesday, this place had a great ambience to it. It is small but it's not too small. I am writing my review from the perspective of the soccer fan supporter. My husband is a fan of La Liga, Serie A, EPL, etc... so when we were going to be in Buffalo, I had wanted to find a place for him to enjoy while I would be working. Mes Que turned out to be that place and thankfully, it was way better than we could have anticipated. We did not try the food, although we will next time. It gets a little crazy in there during the matches, which thankfully I did not get to experience. The service is great, staff is friendly, and has quite possibly the cleanest ladies room I have ever been in (this is a huge plus for me). They have an impressive wine and scotch/whiskey/bourbon selection (not too expansive, just quality drinks with decent price points). After the matches are over, it becomes a pretty chill place with a great overall vibe. So much that I wish they were in our home base of Pittsburgh as well as this is the type of place we enjoy. read more

I LOVE this bar. First off, the staff is amazing. friendly, personable and most importantly, talented! The cocktails they serve up are IMO on par with Vera. Nice Wine List. The beer selection is excellent. Most of the beers on tap are European but they do feature one or two craft beers including Community Beer Works. Most of their craft beer selection are bottled, but lots of choices. I've heard mixed reviews on their food, but I've eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. My favorite dish was a Pork and Rice entree. There are also mini pizza's which are delightful. Now on to the environment. If you come to watch a game you are most certainly guaranteed to have a great time. The crowds get large and sometimes a bit crowded especially during big games, but despite this, it's still fairly easy to get a drink. On a quiet night they still play games on the TV but this does not distract from the warm, comfortable environment, dim lighting, and candles. The outdoor patio is my favorite spot in the summertime. The menu is limited but changes frequently and pairs well with a deep drink menu and specialty drinks. Next time I am feeling particularly European and want to watch some Futbol I will most certainly be stopping into Mes Que. It's a really attractive space with a great beer list and quite a sizable wine list. My fiance ordered an old fashioned and the bartender even asked what kind of whiskey he would like! Was really excited to try this place out, always saw it packed with people. We went on a Friday after work and the place was pretty full but we got one of the two tables that were left. We ordered a small plate of the shrimp and sausage in garlic cream sauce and a large plate of the chorizo beans and rice with slow roasted pork. And we ordered two drinks: polar vortex and a pallamas. The shrimp was pretty good and so was the polar vortex drink. But the large plate was so unbelievably disappointing I really couldn't believe it. It came out and both me and the fiancé looked at each other wondering if this was for real. It looked like a bowl of slop and once we tasted it ... had no flavor at all. I have no idea why it claimed to have chorizo or roast pork... neither could be tasted at all. The whole dish was bland and frankly I couldn't believe a restaurant would serve something that looked like that. The only reason I'm giving this place a 3 is because it seems like a good place to go for drinks and apps. The atmosphere is nice. We should have stuck to the small plate and a cheese board or something. There was a pretty big cocktails menu and some good looking whiskey specials. But not a place for actual food sorry to say. Three stars based on just the food, since I haven't tried the drinks here. My husband and I wandered in for a late lunch after we got out of a movie next door at North Park Theatre. We didn't know what to expect, but since it was Sunday and we knew a lot of other Hertel businesses were closed that day, we decided to try Més Que. Més Que has three different drink menus, but neither of us wanted alcohol, so we just stuck to the food menu. The menu is rather unusual. There are things you might expect at a fancy-ish bar, like cheese and charcuterie plates, sandwiches and pizzas, but then there are rice and pasta dishes. It's not too vegetarian-friendly. I ordered the goat cheese pizza, and my husband had the linguine with San Marzano tomato sauce and prosciutto. We got a very generous amount of complimentary bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar after putting in our food order. While I like the individual components that made up my pizza-goat cheese, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, and balsamic-I didn't really like how they all came together. There were too many flavors happening at once, and dare I say it, there was too much goat cheese. The pizza wasn't huge, though it was fairly priced at $8. Our server, Zach, was also the bartender and was very friendly. The space was very nice, but I could see how it could get extremely cramped when it's busy. Luckily, it was pretty quiet on the Sunday afternoon we were there. I'd be open to trying Més Que again for drinks and maybe the cheese plate at another quiet time, but I probably wouldn't come here again for a meal. read more

On the night we went in, the menu items looked very interesting, so my wife and I ordered two panini's to share --- the prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato and basil panini and the shaved ribeye, hot cherry pepper and provolone. I can't recall there being a better manicured soccer bar than Mes Que. Most soccer bars are teeming with soccer hooligans. Soccer hooligans, when mixed with beer, go crazy and destroy everything. Bars, police cars and soccer referees usual bare the brunt of the destruction. But Mes Que has great appeal inside it. Not only does it defy soccer hooligans by being, well, intact, there's even nicely stained wooden trim lining the bar area and the fully functional flat panel TV that does not have bar stool marks in it. I was trying to think why that was until it hit me... their pizza with sun dried tomatoes, pesto, goat cheese and a sweet balsamic glaze coating was outrageous. So outragous, in fact, that if I were angry that my team was down one to nill in extra time, or my favorite striker has just been given a red card, or David Beckham did another underwear commercial that my wife and her friends would swoon over for the foreseeable future, I'd still think twice about destroying something. Maybe their awesome pizza placates soccer hooligans. It sure kept me happy. So did the Carlsberg on tap... and the little plastic soccer goalies inside the urinals you can pee on, yell "GOOOOAL" then pull your shirt off and slide across the bathroom floor on your knees while you celebrate. read more
